This might have been a freakin' work of art if they'd filmed it all in Comanche language, but it falls flat. Set pieces (and everything else) are too clean, Lead actress is too modern feeling.

I don't think the main character is quite a mary sue, but she's a borderline mary sue(it's close). There's plenty to enjoy here if you can suspend your disbelief enough to believe she can go toe to toe physically with a predator, even an injured predator. There's a lot of plot armour as well, things falling right for the protagonist to get her into the position to trick the predator at the end. If you can look past all that, you might find some enjoyment here, but it would have flopped in theatres(it'll do well on streaming though). A 5/10 movie and no way as good as the classic arnie original. Expand

The basic premesis of Predator is that it comes to earth to hone its skills against a challenging adversary. I am not sure how that translates to killing a - obviously - underequippped Comanche tribe.

Story quirks aside the acting isn't great and characters are seriously underdeveloped. Especially the French colonizer which is a bland caricature (this is especially clear when you actually speak or understand French). The least they could have done was hire actual French actors, but they clearly cut corners there.

The focus of the film is on the female protagonist, and at least that is more or less okay, but not great either. As to call this 'the first good Predator movie in 35 years' is quite the overstatement.

So this super Predator is making clicking noises just to warn it's prey? And waits around half a minute to kill an important character?
How much you have to push the main character so the viewer understands she is smarter and stronger than anyone? She has no weakness, not even her small 40-50kg body against a super killer machine. I really don't understand the hype. The whole movie is based again on the old story of Predator, but they fail to make him look unstoppable. Like with Schwarzenegger, you belived he found a trick that worked to kill it. Here they eat a yellow floer and they're good. Jesus this was ****

Questionable script, acting and CGI. The dog was the best actor, it was reasonable mindless fun for 90 minutes.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It was a fairly entertaining film to watch but full of things that make it hardly immersive. There were nods to native american culture, my favourite being it showed the respect they had for nature regarding the scene where the protagonist finds the carcasses of many buffalo and I believe then prays for them. However the story is based on the modern idea of feminism that for a woman to be strong she needs to be like a man and to do that she needs to be a hunter with a gimicky tomahawk on a rope. I suppose though that the film is a piece of fiction.

The fight scenes are entertaining especially getting to see the predator using it's vast array of weaponry cutting people down left, right and centre whilst taking a few hits of its own. The final fight scene may seem to do the predator an injustice but the thing to remember is that just before it, it takes a shot to the back of the head which could explain it's inability to fight effectively or to think, however there were a couple of occasions where the predator could've killed the protagonist if it'd have acted as quickly as it did during the rest of the film and points in the final fight.

Overall it was an ok film that i'd probably not watch again with some modern politics thrown into it to give a false idea of the Comanche tribe.

They stretched the reality too far to get The Message into the story. I like a lot of Sarah Connor and Ellen Ripley types of characters. Many. But they need to be believable within the confines of the written universe they are in. Those women were amazing because they overcame insane things and didn’t have time for woke points. I do not recommend this movie. I won’t say specific scenes but just check the CGI/VFX even. The best part will make you laugh. Expand

I am a predator movie fan from the first movie, and really only the first two count. And preparing myself for PREY i didrewatch both predator movies, and coming from there PREY lacks a lot of the predator.

I recommend not to watch this movie in english but in the native indian language if its available.

Overall all actors except the main hero fitted right in the native people visually. So it is something you need to grow into. The Predator's face. I was impressed till the moment he was shown off without his mask... Its just.. why? why did you cgi it? In addition this predator, propably a teen, is skinny as they come. The predators were heavy full muscle creatures. This one is a joke in comparission sadly. Predator is way underpowered in this movie

The movie plot is quite alright, not much to complain about here. And the reference at the end, loved it.

Overall a not bad movie, mediocre movie - its worse than 1 & 2, but better then all the others.

It's simplistic in a good way and I think that elevated things more than hindered them. The plot is pretty straightforward - A young female trying to prove herself to her people ends up crossing paths with the Predator. There's not much in terms of a plot or a story really but what we do get is plenty of action, some decent gore, and a lead that is capable of making you care about seeing her come out on top.

The movie isn't without its faults though. The CGI can look downright amateurish at times and the pacing is inconsistent with the movie feeling a bit padded in the second half. That didn't stop me from enjoying it though. I think with a little more polish and tighter editing, It'd have been a better movie. However, I still think it is by far the best Predator sequel we have gotten thus far. I'm excited to see what comes next.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The movie was fine until 165 cm/55 kg angry teenager physically outperformed, and brutally murdered a 210 cm / 120 kg+ apex hunter from outer space. Scriptwriters were backpedaling so hard that the predator was loosing IQ, and strength with every minute of the movie, so the rebellious angry teenager could win.
In the end, she was so brave, strong, and stunning, that predator said "Ah F... it!", and he shot himself into the face. Literally.
The End.

The sound is also good. Predator looks really cool. And the acting of most of the actors is not bad. There were also repeated references to the first film with the legendary Schwarzenegger.
And now for the bad. The film is about a strong, independent Indian woman who in the most incredible way wins where she should have died a hundred and ten times in a row. Of course, I am not against the heroic image of women, but it was more annoying and raised great doubts about the exaggerated possibilities of that upstart. I'm not sure if the Indians used tomahawks for hunting, but this is a very strange choice of weapon in terms of logic. The same is true of plants that freeze blood, but so be it. How was it possible to understand that this would make you invisible, even if you stand stupidly against the background of fire and do not even deign to hide? A dog that runs to fight against universal evil, like in Disney cartoons. Well, the finale is the absolute pinnacle of stupidity that could only be thought of to show. It defies any logical explanation. At least I don't have an answer to that for sure. The music here seems to be pumping, but it cannot be compared with the legendary original track by Alan Silvestri.
White people are shown to be the most despicable scumbags possible. The actors tried so hard that they overplayed it. They even showed Europeans who don't mind eating dogs, like some orcs. In general, the film disappointed me, although there was enough epicness and potential here. And the Predator is really great here. Everything was ruined by stupidity and the desire to please trends. Although even with this it was possible to make everything more adequate and believable.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Much better than The Predator (2018) thankfully, but let down by the final act. I liked the cast, the setting and the story in itself, it was a very decent vehicle for a Predator film. Sadly, the Predator itself was the biggest issue. Losing the final battle is always to be expected, but the closing 30 minutes is an assassination of what the Predator is supposed to be. A supreme hunter making stupid decisions, losing badly in what is essentially hand to hand combat with two seperate humans before being killed in similarly silly fashion. It's not a bad movie in itself, it's just not a particularly good Predator one. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie was every bit as cliched and contrived as I thought it would be. It actually has the line "if it bleeds we can kill it." The entire end confrontation between the poorly written main character and the seemingly weak excuse for a Predator is just so much stupid it is cheesy. The Predator can kill a bear in hand to hand combat, it can kill armed Indian braves and armed French trappers but can't manage to kill a 100 lb. girl...this movie is the definition of CONTRIVED! frankly my favorite part of the movie was the dog Sarii. They just tried too hard to make Amber Midthunder's character a strong powerful woman and it comes off as forced especially when going up against an advanced alien hunter that is like three times her size. And don't forget the magical herb that can completely nullify your body heat without actually doing anything else. The Predator design was kind of hokey looking too, it looked more like cheap cosplay than any Predator design from the franchise yet. Expand

A young woman (Amber Midthunder) is determined to be recognized as a good hunter, so she resolves to track down the mysterious monster. Even though some of his traits are different (earlier tech), he still has enormous powers to quickly dispatch man and beast. The action scenes are staged adequately and the action keeps moving. On the other hand, there's never anything original or unique about the writing or direction (other than the setting). While I'm sure the producers worked hard to assure culturally appropriate decisions, Midthunder sounds L.A. and looks Goth, plus the dialogue also uses 21st century syntax, which takes viewers out of the period. Overall, it's adequately made, but won't do much to move the franchise forward. Expand

Most of the 0 and 1 are not that wrong and there swings this woke swords behind its neck and not in a good way. I try to but objective cause they really tried. A new setting and a more mainstream suited lead role. And I guess that's one of the problems. Predator was never mainstream and never about a coming of age story for a girl. It shows some horror and dark parts but it develops not straight forward in this way. It has also some very very predictable and standard plots and characters. But it also has some great scents and gives off the 18th century vibe they wanted to show. There could had been more of this. And the best at the end: the fight scenes. They are better than the average and I liked it. I wouldn't rewatch but I enjoyed it last evening and that's ok. Expand

It does have a few of issues but it was not the usual heavy virtue signalling turd that the entertainment industry has been blasting out of their backsides for the last couple of years. If I am brutally honest with myself after watching the trailers I had already "pre-hated" this film and expected the story to be "strong independent native American woman, perfect at everything and only held back because of the men of her tribe, has to fight against adversity when she encounters an even bigger threat, white men. Also there is a predator in it". The trailers were so bad that I even expected Naru to team up with the predator to fight the evil colonialists. But this was not the case, Naru does go on a bit of heroes journey, she is a bit of crap hunter in the beginning, the dialogue is a bit clunky but it does not have to resort to belittling all men in order to show that Naru has strengths, her brother is clearly portrayed as a likeable character as well as a stronger hunter and fighter, sure most of the characters are forgettable fodder and are purely present just to be torn apart by the Predator and the white colonialists are written to be obviously unpleasant and unlikable but they are all French, so not too difficult to suspend your disbelief there.
It is no way a perfect film, some of the CGI is TV quality levels, but it was not the franchise killer that I expected it to be, whilst it does not really add anything new it does not crap all over any of the previous canon like Disney usually froths at the mouth with excitement to do, it has a couple of nods to the other films and is leagues better than the last Predator film that was released. Naru is certainly no Ripley, but at least she is also not another Captain Marvel either. Much better than I expected.

This is how you reinvent a franchise, without entirely breaking out of the mold, but looking to explore other narrative variants.

Not everything works, that was to be expected, but I definitely found it much better than the terribly disappointing 2018 movie and the middling 2010 installment.
We also have to be honest, mostly those who call it the best installment in the franchise since the original. It's not like Prey had a mountain to climb to top that. The one thing I find really problematic for the Predator mythos is that basically anyone can kill them.
I mean with all its technology and brute strength, you have a young Comanche girl with arrows, spears and a 17th century weapon to defeat it, that doesn't look good for your villain. I was entertained enough and that's all that counts considering I had no expectations before I started watching it. Needless to say, it's worth a look.

I thought it was pretty good, my one gripe with the film however is the fact that the Predator itself was quite inconsistent for example: It K.O'd a Grizzly Bear with one punch but can't seem to put the protagonist down for long and it also screamed in pain when stabbed but seemed un-phased when it's arm was severed. It's a pretty minor thing but I just thought the film would be a little bit better if the main villain was more consistent. Expand

The whole stupid CGI animal bits are painful. You think the predator is going to attack but it’s just a silly animal and this happens more than once. The worst bit was balancing on the tree opposite a CGI lion or whatever it was. Painful and silly. But the chaos of the predator battling with humans in the mass brawl scene is excellent. Overall I loved the concept but the pacing and silliness drag down what could have been much more entertaining. Expand

Predator hunting in the 1700s is a very fascinating concept, but it fails because Hollywood insists we all want female protagonists. Next, I want to see Predator battle Maximus in the Roman Gladiator era or combat cyborgs in the future.

I enjoyed watching the movie. It's decent but slightly better than mediocre.

it's a decent movie, but that's cos expectations were very low from the last predator movie. The first half is pretty much her being told she's not good enough to hunt and her role as a female. 2nd half is actually pretty cool with theit's a decent movie, but that's cos expectations were very low from the last predator movie. Ending was...questionable but ok.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Basically the plot of Mulan is given the setting of Pocahontas as the main character fights back against gender roles, whilst also fighting back against an actual predator. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well it's a Predator movie so there isn't really that much to explain. One difference with this latest entry is the fact there aren't two different tribes of Predators runnin' around. This time we're going back to the original in terms of plot and tone (although they said that about 'Predators'). This time it's Predator versus primal man...woman...girl. This time it's back to booby traps, mud, and hunting. This time it's a Predator versus a Native American girl, yup, welcome to 2023.

Anyway the main crux (or carrot) for this entry is the fact it's a Predator vs. Native Americans. To be honest this sounds like the perfect idea for a Dark Horse graphic novel series for sure, but a full-blown movie? I just find it cheesy because you can swap out the Indians and use ANY period warriors and it would be exactly the same. Predator vs. Vikings. Predator vs. Knights. Predator vs. Samurai. Predator vs. Spartans. Predator vs. Mongols etc...The list goes and every idea would literally be the same albeit the locations obviously.

And here lies the problem, this movie isn't actually very original at all and once again pales in comparison to both the 1987 original AND the 1991 sequel (I said what I said). The plot is completely predictable naturally. The young female (with an awkward American accent) wants to be a warrior but the rest of the tribe poo poo this idea (present-day social commentary!), so she has to prove herself. At first she fails but after much perseverance and the arrival of a Predator she manages to do just that. Along the way we get various callbacks to the original including dialog, shots, and scenes. The main difference is this is a prequel so the Predator is using dated tech and for some reason looks completely different...again.

But yeah I wasn't really impressed here. The movie is surprisingly dark so you actually don't see that much gore. I get that they tried to make it look natural with natural light in the wilderness and adding to the suspense factor, but it didn't work for me. The movie wasn't suspenseful and I couldn't see a great deal because a lot happens at night. There is gore but it's almost entirely CGI which is just pathetic I'm sorry. This is why older flicks are so much better, real blood effects, practical effects, squibs etc...This is why Paul Verhoeven movies are so God damn epic. You don't ever really see the Predator's face that well again because much is set at night, and I didn't really like the new design. His mouth is HUGE! Takes up half his face and his eyes are almost on either side of his face! Didn't like the bone-esque looking mask either. Couldn't really see how it stayed on his face to be honest.

I also didn't like seeing all these wild animals getting killed frankly, kinda depressing. I get the gist of the Predator obviously but I really don't see why he would be killing wolves or snakes (I get the bear). The Predator is an intelligent species, it can tell the difference between another creature being a threat and another creature merely hunting for its own survival, right? So why would it kill these animals unless they actually attacked him, especially creatures that are so small. I mean, does the Predator have to kill every flippin' predator species it comes across in order to prove itself or conquer that particular planet??

Around the halfway mark a load of French voyageurs turn up because of course they do. Naturally these guys all turn out to be a really nasty bunch of White guys (of course) and cannon fodder for the Predator. At first it seems like there's only a handful of them but as the Predator starts wiping them out their number seems to grow rapidly (cannon fodder required for action sequences as there aren't many Natives and the Natives are of course goodies). Once again the visuals are disappointing because you don't actually see any of the kills and all the blood is CLEARLY CGI. It's also around this point where our female protagonist turns out to be a martial artist of sorts and is able to take out multiple grown men at the same time...ugh!!

So yeah...overall this was a mixed bag for me. In general the visuals are nice with some lovely atmospheric location shots. The Natives all look and sound authentic as do the French men whilst the Predator certainly sounds good and comes with those nice infrared optics. Alas the movie is packed with terrible CGI, bad acting, dim visuals at key moments, and the Predator doesn't look as good as it should. They keep changing the look but the original simply cannot be beaten so why try? The real issue here is the movie is simply another retread of the same old formula but merely with Native Americans. They have to move this franchise forward, maybe into space? Maybe onto the Predator home world? They cannot keep doing the same thing over and over geez!

Better than The Predator which isn't saying much, but still nowhere near the quality in all senses of Predator 1 and 2.

Had Naru fought any of the previous Predators in the previous she would've had zero chances, with Native-American magical medicine or not. She was given a far inferior Predator to fight, inferior in technology, physical capabilities, and intelligence. This movie was rigged from the start, and it has almost zero character development. You only know why Naru wants to be a hunter, but other than that there's really nothing else to know about her.

Dutch from the first movie he started out cocky and confident because he was special forces and had a team he knew very well backing him up. And by the end of the movie you can see in his face how much that ordeal had changed him, and you can see the pain in his eyes of the loss of his team and friends. Naru seemed like an outcast in her own tribe and even though she loses one of the two people that show any concern for her, she still manages to smile in the end as if she felt nothing and only her goals mattered.

The movie starts a little slow, increases in pace and becomes actually interesting, but it loses at the finish line. This could've been a worthy sucessor to Predator 2, and even explained one specific scene. But all the opportunities are lost, leaving you with a good enough movie to pass the time, but nowhere a sequel to the first two movies. In my opinion even Predators was better than Prey.
