Although its less hypocritical than the original, it still lacks the qualities of a good movie, and it doesn't bring anything to the table for people outside of the fanbase.

At the time what kid wasn't a Pokemon fan? Now of course as a movie it is relatively balanced although you can't help but think this is all extremely coincedental. I mean they just HAPPEN to crash onto an island due to a storm (that just appears out of no where) and the island HAPPENS to be having a festival one and Ash HAPPENS to be the chosen one destined to save it. It all seems blatently set up. Otherwise the animation is great for the time as is the soundtrack. Pokemon fans will adore it and others....you may want to give it a try but I wouldn't really recommend it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This score is the lowest I can honestly give. This movie obviously is an ocean of silliness. In the whole Pokemon world it has to be Sasha who is The One, like always he is in the good place at the right time. Surprisingly it is his task to bring together three spheres of any kind of prophecy. However keep in mind it is primarily for kids.

Animation is truly decent for a 2000 movie. Soundtrack is incredible. Jokes are funny and meta ones are crazy: the Team Rocket reamains the funniest once again. For one time this Team evolves a bit and stop being the meaningless bad guys, even if the real bad guy of the movie is lame as Wobbuffet.

Nothing to write about the Pokemon's especially unless the fact that talking Lugia made me cringe a bit. If he can talk, why not the other Pokemon's? Or even Moltres, Zapdos or Articuno? A lot of mysteries... Anyway I found Sasha was incredibly mature for his supposed young age. We see him giving some impressive talks about friendship and responsabilities.

In metascore I would rate this an 88. It is better than the first cause this movie has a better plot and animation. The movie does have some flaws of being repetitive and boring but the movie is great still.

With an antihero lacking clear motives, this picture is governed by a superfluous plot, thinly held together, and dragging through its excessive runtime The vibrantly imaginative animation and beautifully surreal soundtrack (score) are both squandered by a devoid script. A farce to the franchise, Pokémon The Movie 2000 boasts potential that is executed beyond the poorest imagination. Expand

It doesn't appear to be as engaging as the one that came before it and some that came after it. The story won't grab your attention like the original would have.

So I don't care what critics think I just love this movie. Atmosphere, characters, story are just great! My beloved part is music though. I will never forget Lugia's theme song, it's so beautiful.

Out of all movies in the Pokemon movie trilogy, this is my favorite.

The plot is bigger than the first movie because everyone, Pokemon, and the whole world is at stake. Note that I'm taking about the Japanese version, it's dark, and more tense than the English version. The movie does have humor like Flura thinking that Satoshi is Kasumi's boyfriend. The collector who plans on kidnapping the Pokemon gods, Freezer, Thunder, and Fire, is cunning. This movie has some educational value such as Kenji acknowledging that combining water and electricity breaks down H2 and O, and when fire (not be confused with Fire the Bird) comes in contact with those gases, it creates an explosion. But, 4KIDS THINK WE'RE TOO DUMB ENOUGH TO KNOW BASIC SCIENCE. The music is great, it fits the movies mood, so is the US version, that's up there. I remember at the theater that I used to be haunted when Satoshi was seemingly dead on the frozen sea, but not enough to scare me for days.

Critics hate this movie because of choppy animation and voice acting. Understand that they're just talking about the US dub. After all, 4Kids dubbed poorly in animes.

Overall, I personally prefer the the Japanese movie over the US version. US: 4/10, JP: 7/10
