This is the most low-budget, stupid, insulting, tragic live-action adaption of Peter Pan. Every character is portrayed poorly, every scene is filmed poorly, and every single logical plot is ruined by incredibly stupid film techniques and implementation choices.

Is this even for children? Well, there are children in it, but the film is so grim and dark, including tinker bell, that its visually unappealing.

Walt Disney is probably melting in his cryo box as his animations are ruined by the new live-action adaptions and the incompetence of Disney executives, directors, producers, and writers. All you had to do is do every single frame of the animation in live-action. The only people doing exemplary work are the artists in VFX, trying to keep the magic in these films. Sadly, Fancy's visuals do not hold up a film, especially when it's not taken from the source. If you wish upon a star you get a rating depending on what you are.

This film is a 2/10, it is held up by the VFX that's all, everything else is Boooooooring.

A simple message to Disney, STOP, or create something with honourability, quality and to the original source. What, you want my help? No?!. Fine, I'll do it myself.

Disney is all about fake, plastic 'wonder' and its products have always been made to keep happy those parents who believe children can't handle dark stories. This particular 2023 version is poor even for a Disney movie. Forced identity politics make the whole thing a mess.

If you want to watch a good story, well told, then go watch some of the awesome anime that's our now.

If, however, you're someone who bends the knee to Disney then you'll probably like this new movie too. So go spend your time and money on it.

The 3 Darling children are whisked away to Neverland by Peter, but instead of carefree fun and childlike freedom, there's continual danger. Captain Hook's part has been juiced up, possibly because Jude Law is in the role, and he's created a dark, mean-spirited character without any of the eccentricity that we've come to cherish from the role (he even has some mental health drama). In another nod to modern sensibilities, Tinkerbell expresses her assurance at "being heard." Ditto the rest of the movie. It's going for a dark adventure instead of a delightful escape. Sure, there are fantastical visuals, but that's not enuff anymore. Parents looking for a lively "flight" are liable to find it bleak and anyone looking to revisit the joys of earlier versions will be sadly sad. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Why is this movie getting Review Bombed? You wonder why?
First, The Cast is BAD. With Peter Pan now being Indian and Thinker Bell now being from Nigeria for the forced inclusion 2020's Disney makes nowadays, and Captain Hook doesn't even look like Captain Hook.
And they tried to make a good story but they didn't because of the politics on this movie. And Wendy was annoying and a Mary Sue like Rey Skywalker but worse, so was Tiger Lily who wouldn't stop speaking her native language when nobody speaked that language. Everything from this dumbster fire of a movie was pathethic and BAD I would give it a 5.6/10.
If you want to see a Real Peter Pan movie just watch the 1953 animated movie, its more fun and has more soul than any modern Disney movie. Even if Lsney hates his old movies for being ''sexists and racists'' I hope Lsney fell off after taking a lot of L's.

Conversely, writing new stories while continuing to tell existing stories is a win win, 1+1=2. Imagine the money they could make if they had two stories to sell instead of trying to force feed one bad story. The modern entertainment industry is incompetent and inept. This is a total disaster from start to finish.
My problem with it is mostly that Neverland looks like a boring Scottish island. Except for the island being totally green on the surface, the rest is filmed in "dark and grey" colors. Neverland is supposed to be a fantastical island with different types of locations. A jungle, "the plains" where the Indians reside, a swamp where the Crocodiles live and more. It's supposed to be colorful and looking like a place you would wanna visit. Google "Green Scottish islands" and there you have this Neverland. Utterly boring. Looks cold and windy. And then we come to the "woke" part. I am not racist, but I am tired of changing the original work. Here we have 2 girls in "The lost boys", Peter Pan is now Indish looking, and Tinker-Bell is black. And Tiger Lily is barely part of the movie. The only thing the film has going for it is Jude Law. And its sad that when he said yes to something on that on paper could be very good, he ends up being part of this disaster. The most bland version of Peter Pan ever!

Have you seen Rise of Skywalker, Captain Marvel, Rings of Power, Witcher Blood Origin?
Then youve seen this movie already. Girls are smarter, stronger, and better then any man.

Wendy is op girl boss who doesnt take responsibilities for any of the negative things she does. She has an amazing 2023 American view of life and the world for living in 1900 England. Lost Boys are nice mix, and seeing as the lost boys were a group of boys too dumb to stay in their baby carriage we now have girls too dumb to stay in their carriage now too.
Tiger Lily is really useless in their movie, can replace her with anyone and you not loss a thing. She also comes off as a bit stereotypical for a Native American, almost as if the writer never met someone from the culture and just used what they were taught in primary school.
Jude Law made a good showing and is the only reason I give this movie a 1 rating. But for some reason Disney is making all their villains antiheroes; if I was a conspiracy theorist Id think Disney is doing this so people think villains are really the good guys so their own villainy is looked at in a better light. Movie has no color to it, a lot browns and golds and muted so very muted.

Peter is very much the villain of this movie, and the kid cant act (that or wasnt given good direction). Other then that he has no real character.

Tinker Bell isnt Tinker Bell and they should have just called the character someone else and just moved on.

Dont bother with this movie, get a VHS tape of the classic or read the book or even just stare at a white wall; will be a better use of your time.

Ah, "Modern" Disney...

The company that keeps on crapping on loved fairy tales by inserting political and racial identity agendas.
Could they leave alone AT LEAST one ???

Can`t wait for the Snow "White" and Little Mermaid to blow in their faces...

This movie is attrocious and absolute rubbish. It took 3 tries till I was able to complete watching it, so my reviews would be accurate. First and only best was Tiger Lilly and her tribe they were fantastic and should have had more screen time. Hook looked like a demented evil child molesting pedophile. The director is about as talented as severely deranged mental patient, and has no talent at all. Wendy too old for this part, just inexperienced and boring, Tinkerbell a no go, should have been a digital CGI. Pan has no talent whatsoever, totally useless and boring possibly has mental issues ADD/ADHD. Lost Girls out of place, girls are way too smart to become lost boys. Disney has now become nothing but a company of degenerate trash trying to destroy childrens classics. They need to be bankrupted, their new films now need to be completely blacklisted by all responsible parents. Expand

Oh what a surprise, Disney are continuing on with their woke crappy agenda. They're gonna go busy if they're not careful.
First of all, why are their girls in the lost boys. They are called "LOST BOYS" not lost children. The acting was thoroughly mediocre and it's the same old story. Why are Disney so lazy? This is like the 5th time Peter Pan has been remade, like give us something original, please. None likes Peter Pan anymore.
Peter Pan was never black also. There are a million other problems with this disaster of a movie, but I'd be here for hours pointing them all out and I have better things to do.
Disney should have stopped with Peter Pan after hook, they would have gone out with a bang if that were the case as Hook was a classic. Acting was also bad.
This film does score 1 point however for having decent CGI.
Disney, stop virtue signalling.
Disney have become degenerates.

What's amazing to me is how this movie completely misses the point of the Peter Pan story. It's actually impressive in it's own unique way.

I read someone use the word 'aggressively bad' to describe this and it's right on the money - it's like it's trying wholeheartedly to be as bad as possible to push a poorly thought out political message rather than entertain an audience.

It's the worst of the Disney live-action remakes, and that really is saying something. The casting is next level awful; who looked at the kid playing Peter in this - a non-entity with as much screen presence as a cardboard cutout - and went "yes, that's my Peter Pan right there!"

Astonishing.

The special effects were horrible
Everything was awful, it was ridiculously boring and just had all around bad acting I should have staying true to the original or even the book they just completely revamped the story and made it almost unrecognizable other than the character names and the overarching themes
Disney seems to not learn their lesson when remaking these films
They took Peter Pan and made him into an awful person, which is more in line with the book, but nothing else about the movie is
Jude Law as Captain Hook was just awful, he wasn't menacing, he wasn't funny, he wasn't anything that Captain Hook was. Peter was absent a good portion of the film and was not his normal valiant self. Instead of doing his best to protect the people around him he constantly did the opposite especially in the beginning of the movie
Instead of outsmarting Hook, they were just awful fight scenes. They were all horribly choreographed and obviously done on short notice. Wendy was a massive toxic awful person and a horrible sister and daughter. Instead of being her normal doting and loving self, she is a narcissistic, entitled, depressed, angsty, rude person
The girls that were in the Lost "boys" were not too far off from her either. Also Neverland just looks like an island in the south of England or somewhere in between Ireland and Scotland there's no magical essence about it It just feels like a small grassy island that isn't in some special magical dimension
Instead of an entire island shaped kind of like a dove but drawn by a 2-year-old and each little section of that island is a different thing one's a forest where Indians live one is a cove for the mermaids are one is the section with the lost boys live One is a cove and area where the pirates live etc... etc...
But now it just feels like this is some blob-shaped island that looks exactly the same from every area and has no real magical essence or anything special about it at all....There were even mountains in the original yet This is just a hilly blob of green grass the occasional fake movie set looking pieces
The film just didn't fit together well it felt like a bunch of people who never actually watched the original film or book decided to make a movie about what they thought Peter Pan was and mixed as much diversity equity and inclusion in it that they could... All will not caring about the outcome of the film and if it would actually do well
And continually tries to market to an group of people who don't even care about these things and only voice their opinion on crap on Twitter
The people who grew up watching Peter Pan are Gen X and millennials if they really wanted to make a movie that people would see they would market to those groups instead they ruin everything they touch like normal(At least for the last 6 or so years it's been the norm)
We need companies to actually start caring about the films they make and the fact that fans are the ones that their servicing, not themselves
That's why we've seen so many movies lately be directed by unknown directors, because it's all about diversity, equity and inclusion.
It has nothing to do with actually making a good movie that the fans will enjoy. If it did it would basically just be the exact same animated movie, but in live action.
Honestly this is just another perfect example of Disney not having any creativity these days and trying to create hype by redoing a story. Instead of giving the audience what they want and giving them that story, they instead completely tear apart everything the audience loves/loved about the original. It's just proven by constant race or gender swapping characters. If a company or person is so willing to completely change massive aspects of characters, then they will have no problem at all changing the story. Which is exactly what happened, just like all of the other live actions. It's also why they put this movie out on Disney Plus and not theaters. They knew the movie would fail. So they thought, let's just have it fail quietly instead of publicly.
Honestly the movie is almost impossible to get through it so boring. I didn't even finish the last 20 minutes of it, because it was so awful. The actor who plays Peter Pan seems like he was just cast for his racial ambiguity and the fact that he is "diverse". I'm not trying to bag on a child actor (which I don't like doing), he just felt like he was reading everything directly off the script page and never practiced or put any real effort into it. Also like I said Jude Law was just not a good Captain hook and looked nothing like how Captain Hook should look.
All in all I just say, watch at your own risk. This movie will bore the crap out of you and probably isn't worth wasting your time on. It's not worth putting all that effort in, especially when they didn't put in effort to make the movie worth watching.

I was excited to watch this as the original animated Peter Pan was one of my favorite Disney movies growing up. Unfortunately, it didn't meet my expectations or live up to the hype. I have to be honest -- this movie was so slow-paced and kind of dull and dark. It wasn't fun, magical, or exciting to watch like the animated classic. The CGI was okay, some parts were well-designed, and others were just terrible. It never once looked like a magical, fantastical Neverland, and instead, just looked like the cast was filming in Scotland. Regarding the characters -- Jude Law, portraying Captain Hook, is probably the strongest and most stand-out character in the film! Even though he was the villain, I found myself rooting for him and feeling sorry for him. If there was one character that I disliked the most, it was Peter Pan, played by Alexander Malony. The young actor is clearly inexperienced as the way he portrayed Peter Pan was as a mostly stale and emotionless character. Furthermore, Pan, in this version, is CLEARLY the true villain. There were a lot of poor writing decisions made as the characters were mostly hollow with little-to-no genuine motivations. This is especially true for Wendy Darling, played by Ever Anderson, who is downright insufferable. The story and the characters look and feel like mere shells of their former selves. Lastly, Iden. Poli. was too upfront and in your face the entire time. It was obvious that the directors placed POC and different ethnicities in the film strictly to fill a quota or something. * sighs * I can't say I'd watch it again. It's lost all of its magic and charm, and I'm actually mad at what Disney did to one of my favorite movies. :( Expand

I think there was even a more competent story that had to be sacrificed to fit the “modern audience” agenda. Actually I enjoyed parts of the movie and there are a few good ideas. I don't mind that the lost boys have female members, Tinkerbell is black or that Wendy has more action scenes. However not everything works well, there are cringe moments and some parts should be a bit toned down. Also the idea of Captain Hooks backstory is not that original. There is a book that toys with even darker ideas that they use partly here (I am vague to avoid spoilers). If I had to describe the movie it is a darker more matured version of the story which could be the problem. We wanted more a colorful Disney movie that resembles the original movie. For itself it is not that bad. The actors deliver a solid to good performance. Especially Captain Hook played by Jude Law is memorable. I also praise the songs in this which I normally hate in many Disney movies. Probably because these are sparingly used. While I am at it it could be a bit more colorful. Overall I am not sure what to make out of it. I give a 5/10 and say the movie Hook did it better and the adaptation for modern audience did not make it better. Expand

Peter Pan & Wendy has all the necessary quality in its confection but not the spirit. The fundamental issue that has plagued all of Disney's live action adaptations.

I understand that Disney is looking for new audiences and obviously these revamps of their old material are a crucial part of that. However, the comparison to their animated counterparts is inevitable and not for the stupid reason of: ''They're ruining the classics'' because that's a fallacy, but because like it or not those animated films are still to this day better films.

Peter Pan & Wendy has somewhat earned its chance to be seen, but its lack of imagination and, above all, soul and magic place it hopelessly behind what has come before.

Having just finished watching it, I'd say it's fine. The problem with Peter Pan is the same problem they're having with Pinocchio - It's been adapted too many times and there is absolutely nowhere to go with the character. This results in the movie feeling a bit slow and a bit boring at times because we're been there and done that many times over.

That being said, Lowery is a great director who can make low-budget films look like gold (as he did with Green Knight). The cast is brilliant as well with Jude Law being the obvious highlight here. I'd say it is without a doubt the best live-action version you'll get of Peter Pan but that isn't saying much.

This weekend we were able to watch Peter Pan and Wendy from Disney+. Based on J. M. Barrie’s novel Peter and Wendy and inspired by the 1953 animated classic, Peter Pan and Wendy is the timeless tale of a young girl who, defying her parents’ wishes to attend boarding school, travels with her two younger brothers to the magical Neverland. There, she meets a boy who refuses to grow up, a tiny fairy and an evil pirate captain, and they soon find themselves on a thrilling and dangerous adventure far, far away from their family and the comforts of home.

Disney really knows how to make animated movies come to life. I mean, can you all be any more magical? Enough is enough, but also keep it up. It’s so much so that I’m shocked that this didn’t even have a short run in the theaters. Yes, this story is played out, but this version is just begging to be seen on the big screen. From the landscapes to the flying and even the transformation of Jude Law into Capt. Hook, Disney really just out does themselves. Disney has a blueprint in how you make viewers care about what’s happening on the screen. The storytelling is vivid and deep in this movie. Now, there is one random character in this movie that I’m still confused about. I have no clue why she is in the movie. It was very weird and almost like they said let’s hit some diversity points with this one. But for real, if other people that are adults live on Neverland doesn’t that destory the whole point of the Neverland story? I’m just so confused. Honestly, that’s me stretching to find something wrong with this streaming feature film.

At the end of the day, Peter Pan and Wendy is a good coming of age flick on Disney+. The movie is full of imagination, wonder and nostalgia but infuses current cultural values. The characters have depth that isn’t really existent in other Peter Pan iterations. The movie is fun and deep at the same time. Definitely a family flick that should be seen especially for those with kids who are a bit afraid to grow up. Grab a big box of popcorn and bangarang!

Not the film most people were expecting (as its less of a direct adaptation of the original Peter Pan, and more a parallel story that builds on the same themes) and likely not the type of film many people were hoping for. But it is, without a doubt, a well crafted film full of beautiful scenery, an emotional character driven story, and great acting performances by the majority of the main cast. I personally highly recommend this film. Expand

Remakes from animated to live action are always contentious and difficult, but this doesn't quite get there. Someday Disney will nail the process. Expand
