The story becomes needlessly convoluted and contrived during the second act. Instead of making a Mr. Brookes style movie, which I would have liked to see, they make this ridiculous attempt to make Esther seem just a bit less psycho and justified.

Either you go all in with your story or you don't make it. This is another example of prequels we did not need. 99.99% of prequels should never have been made.

Unnecessary prequel for an already great movie. the first one said whatever needed to be said, and there was no need to go into the details of Esther's life and past.
the changes in the main character, throughout time, are so dramatic and evident that it makes it impossible for the viewer to believe that this Esther is even younger than the original Esther! so, that's one huge negative point for the film.
The story is lame and completely predictable. the only twist in the story is with the mother and her information. Whereas, the original film had many twists and scary scenes that made it so enjoyable to watch.
