Like the iPhone models in it, this movie feels so outdated. Bland acting, a boring story, and supposedly "witty" references make 'Mr. Harrigan's Phone' one of the worst horror films of the year. I wish they'd learn that not everything by King needs to be adapted. The cast is fine but it's a short story that is dragged out to a feature-film length. This would have worked out far better as a short IMO.

Ok so first part of the movie seems is one thing and second something completely different, random, too rushed and all over the place. The first part I liked but yeah ending and everything rest just too dumb.

This movie takes just over 40 minutes to get going and by then I was feeling a little burnt out.

Jaeden Martell manages to sell his character, but that's pretty much the best attribute this film has to offer, because this is another one of those Stephen King stories that only works in its original narrative medium. Neither the mystery, nor the morality lesson, and certainly not the suspense make this movie feel like a complete experience, in fact, its conclusion feels like the end of an episode of a TV show that offers no real resolution, it just stopped because it had nowhere else to go. However, this comes as no surprise. Not when it comes to Stephen King adaptations, and especially not when Netflix is involved.… Expand

Don't waste your time with this. This is not Stephen King or even a horror movie. It's a commentary on how phones dominate our lives. I heard it's based off a short story. I can't imagine who actually wrote this. There is literally no horror to it at all. Some people die, then the protagonist regrets stuff. The end.

It's too bad, the protagonist acted really well in this. Go watch something good like A Cure for Wellness or The Autopsy of Jane Doe. The horror. The horror.… Expand

John Lee Hancock tem em mãos um material do Stephen King que mescla um pouco da crítica social à globalização informacional e os desdobramentos da tecnologia com uma ficção científica de tons macabros, sem a necessidade de uma explicaçãoJohn Lee Hancock tem em mãos um material do Stephen King que mescla um pouco da crítica social à globalização informacional e os desdobramentos da tecnologia com uma ficção científica de tons macabros, sem a necessidade de uma explicação sobre a metafísica criada no enredo (o que não torna o filme ruim), conseguindo com isso criar um filme muito bem feito.
As atuações estão ótimas, especialmente do Donald Sutherland (que faz o Sr. Harrigan), roubando a cena a cada aparição em sua contida atuação, mas sempre bem precisa. Ele desenvolve uma amizade com um garoto, pagando-o para que ele leia livros pra ele, uma vez que sua visão já não dá conta de fazer o serviço. E assim o filme vai cadencialmente criando a ligação necessária entre ambos, até o dia em que o garoto Craig, interpretado muito bem por Jaeden Martell, lhe dá de presente um celular, o que é o estopim para uma nova roupagem da trama.
A partir de então, muito por conta da visão de King, discute-se o papel das tecnologias na vida moderna, sempre de uma forma muito didática e de fácil entendimento ao grande público. A narração em off também incomoda pelo excesso de explicações, o garoto Craig a toda hora vai narrando os seus passos e sentimentos, se por um lado contribui para entendermos sua visão, por outro lado mostra uma insegurança do diretor com o seu material em tela, poderia ser mais econômico na narração, uma vez que o filme está bem clean e as atuações conseguem transmitir os sentimentos necessários.
O celular acaba sendo um protagonista importante, mas ele é apenas o símbolo de uma tecnologia que, na maioria das vezes, não dominamos, ao contrário, estamos escravos dela. No filme, isso é levado ao extremo, incluindo mortes, logicamente com a suspensão de toques de realidade para criar toda a atmosfera de horror necessária, e isso acrescenta o filme, já que começa meio frio e vai se tornando um suspense agradável de ver.
Não espere aqui cenas horripilantes, não é a proposta. Craig tem acertos familiares para lidar, como em relação à mãe e ao pai (este um pouco esquecido do roteiro), bem como em sua nova fase do ensino médio, e seu amadurecimento se confronta com a ascensão dos smartphones, uma artefato que carrega alto potencial destrutivo.
O filme não tenta aprofundar o tema, mas é o suficiente para pensarmos sobre o poder devastador dos aparelhos eletrônicos, e talvez tudo não passe de uma metáfora simbolizando nossa autodestruição para as tecnologias que nós mesmos criamos. Bom filme.… Expand

I liked the concept, but I felt it was half baked and it took a very long time to get going. Very good performances but just didn’t do enough for me in the end.
