Ok so it wasn’t the greatest movie ever but I expected much less to be often . It’s only the first one so the budget wasn’t as big as it should be . I reckon If it gets a sequel I think it will be amazing !!!! Well done guys I loved it !

This movie is awesome! Best fighting sequence scenes I've seen in a long while, the martial arts choreography is amazing. Sure brings back my childhood memories as a kid growing up in the 90s! Lots of fun. If you're a fan of the franchise you'll love it. It ticks all of the boxes!
If you aren't a big MK person you probably won't enjoy it as much. No one can deny the excellent choreography though! 8/10 from me

It did what it was supposed to do....be Mortal Kombat. It has it's own story, great action and delivers. Too many people expect their "own" version of it and throw a fit when they don't get it.

If your not an mk vet but like action movies, you’ll enjoy it.
If you’ve played the games, you’ll love it.
From classic fatalities, to spamming the sweep, in game references galore.

Not to mention Hiroyuki Sanada as Hasashi Hanzo was perfect on so many levels. He brings a level of grace to the character that MK X and MK 11 equally captured.

Asano Tadanobu was also a great choice for Raiden. There has always been a criticism of the God of Thunder being white washed. Asano has the cynicism that echoes the Christopher Lambert portrayal so well.

Saddened over the recast of Shang Tsung but Cary-Hiroyuki can only be so young. Maybe they will recast him as old Shang Tsung, though Goro already died just outside a barn so that was weird.

All in all, a wonderful film to sit through, discuss on the fly, and oooh and ah.

I think they did a great job of staying true to the feel of the games with the short, regular fight sequences and including some of the characters signature moves. I think they've done a really good job of the casting too. If you aren't a fan of the games I could understand that you may be critical of the movie as it really plays to an audience who is already familiar with the MK franchise. I loved how they didn't skimp on the violence and gore and how they perfectly mixed it with comedic moments also how they used iconic lines and moves from the games. The writing especially the screenplay was superb. The visual effects were remarkable especially Sub-Zero's powers, Liu's powers, Scorpion's Kunai, Milenna's powers, Jax's arms, Syzoth (Reptile), Raiden's powers, Cole's powers, Nitara's wings, Kung's hat, Goro, Sonya's powers, and Kano's powers. The acting was stupendous especially from Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Sisi Stringer, Mehcad Brooks, Lewis Tan, Max Huang, Ludi Lin, Hiroyuki Sanada, Joe Taslim, Tadanobu Asano, and Damon Herriman. The makeup and hairstyling was phenomenal especially on Sisi Stringer, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Chin Han, Mel Jarnson, Max Huang, Jessica McNamee, and Lewis Tan. The costumes were outstanding especially ones wore by Hiroyuki Sanada, Tadanobu Asano, Max Huang, Sisi Stringer, Joe Taslim, Chin Han, Ludi Lin, Lewis Tan, Daniel Nelson, Mel Jarnson, and Josh Lawson. I am not quite sure why many are going into this movie expecting some "Grade A" writing and pacing. I didn't start up Mortal Kombat on my HBOMax expecting some amazing award-winning plot or writing I came for the fights and characters. I am not sure what a lot were expecting out of this its Mortal Kombat lol also the fight choreography was really well done I am not sure what in the world some are talking about.

Perfect Mk Movie,Its a treat, speechless towards the end it was just goosebumps,The story was amazing focused on characters rather than full origin and tournament,The characters were iconic and amazing new addition as cole, The music was superb it was tense at times and the Cgi was great, The blood and gore was pleasingly awesome and the action scenes each of them were "Purely insane and Art" The starting scorpion fight as samurai the killings was just pure mayhem love it and his family killing was just bone chillingly dark, The sub-zero entries throughout the movie with "its getting cold in here" was awesome,The scorpion death was surprising and then the present day the cole family intro they were sweet and then the sub zero's quest to kill champions the cole's attack the restaurant scene the slow snow fall and sub-zero controlling snow with hands it was just eye catchingly beautiful, Then the jax's entry and his hands tear scene it was awesome, Then the sonya's and kano's entry the whole origin spalshed in minutes and then the lizard fight it was amazing, Then the jouney to temple of raiden. the lui's intro and the whole team meet and the power's unlocking quest the kano's absurd humor here and there with the jax reunite and then the shang's team cheating the tournament and finding earth champions the raiden's rescue and then the whole Cole's scorpion's relation and then the goro's fight at house it was intensely awesome, Then the kano's selling out the team and then the team to team fight and in that kung's fight with flying girl the hat tearing fatality the whole body cutting was just bloody epic then afterwards his soul ripping by shang that scene was amazing, The final act was just nuts, The teams one on one fight, The kano and sonya's fight the kano's eye squash with statue by sonya was awesome and The jax fight with head ripping enemy scene and the lui's dragon flame kill and the melina's kill by sonya after getting symbol from kano and activating power was amazing, Then the final fight with sub-zero the Cole's family kidnap and the Iconic entry of the scorpion to save cole it was just a goosebumbps moment, The further awesome fight with blood and snow it was just iconicly brilliant,the cole and scorpion together fighting sub-zero and subzero using snow tricks specailly the freezing blood in air to use as sword it was just insanely awesome and the killing of sub-zero by the two it was satisfying although sub-zero was just baddass, The ending with family together and the shang's sent back by raiden and the ending tease of johnny cage at hollywood it was just nuts it was peak MK satisfaction end,Overall it was just iconic, entertaining and a awesome experience, A masterpiece of game adaptation and Its a great movie!… Expand

It may not appeal to some people, but Mortal Kombat certainly has it's charms compared to it's predecessors. The trailer certainly does not disappoint with the violence. If you enjoy the series of the same name, are a gore hound, disappointed with the older movies, or have heard of the games and want to start somewhere, then this movie might appeal to you. It brings in some old-school fatalities from the older Mortal Kombat games, and adds a new one to the mix. The story might be a little disappointing but it can appeal to certain others. The music is definitely some of the best you can ever hear. Action sequences? Awesome! Overall, I would definitely recommend the movie to you. I give it a 10/10, an A+, an 5 stars, and a thumbs up. Although many fans were expecting something closer to the original, or had expectations of a certain plot, what the screenwriters did with this movie was a great way to take the key elements of what fans love about Mortal Kombat, and make it their own and unique thing.

They were smart in the fact that they did not throw all their eggs in one basket. As fans know, there are a LOT of characters and lore in the Mortal Kombat universe, and anything more than what was included in this movie would have been overkill. The characters they did include were introduced in a way that goes a little closer to their origins, allowing the opportunity for the evolution of said characters throughout this movie and into (hopefully) the sequels to come. As mentioned, we had fan favorite characters included in this movie, seeing some epic and absolutely brutal fights, giving just enough to satisfy but leaving out just enough to want and anticipate more! Though the plot itself may not be exactly what some fans would expect, what they did do with it was smart and makes sense for the first of a series of movies. Besides the fights, there was a good balance of drama, story, comedy, lore (whether directly or indirectly included), and thrilling moments. For example, the way they started off with Hanzo Hasashi and Bi-Han's story, was enough to get you invested right out of the gate. Those stories and an interesting thread throughout the movie, and into what could be the sequel! This movie was not meant to throw everything we already know at us, but to tell a unique story using elements of what we know, allowing the opportunity to evolve this story throughout multiple movies. All in all, for what it was in and of itself, it did a great job at telling a balanced story with a mix of fan favorite characters, while not overdoing it right out of the gate. I for one hope they do in fact make a sequel, and we get to see where they will take this story next! I loved it and I would highly recommend watching it, but doing so with the intent of enjoying what it is and not what you may necessarily expect, appreciating the unique story they are telling.… Expand

The movie is a **** banger it is not what i expected at all but it is amazing. The only things that are kind of dissapointing are the screen time that Nitara and Kung Lao get and the fact that i wanted more blood gore and fatal fatalityes.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I honestly hate reading critic reviews... It's like these people literally have no idea about what makes a good movie... I give this movie a 10... I was at the edge of my seat the entire movie. Jumping at certain points because they shot out the lines at the perfect moments. The story was fantastic and stayed true to the original video game. The graphics were phenomenal and what you would expect about big Hollywood Blockbuster. The excitement in the combat scenes will have you at the edge of your seat if you are a true fan. As for the critics I have to honestly ask you if you're not a fan of the series why do you even bother watching these types of movies. If you'd rather vote on something like When Harry met Sally then watch When Harry met Sally and leave the reviews to people who actually enjoy these kinds of movies. You asked me the critics are stupid majority of them. And what pisses me off is that people actually listen to these reviews to decide whether or not they're going to watch a movie or buy a movie and it's determines whether or not we get a sequel. This movie was amazing if you enjoy mortal Kombat and you enjoy the story and the series and everything that has grown around it. If you're not somebody who enjoys this type of thing don't watch it. But don't ruin the rating so that we don't get a sequel because this was a fantastic movie and I hope to God they do a part 2.… Expand

This movie is a ton of fun! Loved every moment. The pacing was on point and the action scenes were choreographed well. Best game adaptation in a long time. If you love MK you will love this movie. If your new to MK you may not appreciate it as much.

I am a lifelong Mortal Kombat fan, so naturally I appreciate all the nuances with the characters, costumes, backstores, plot, etc. that was VERY faithful to the franchise. If you are an MK fan and haven't seen this yet, why are you reading a review? JUST GO SEE THIS! But to all the non-MK fans who are considering this, please understand that overall Critic Review scores are never going to be forgiving to a movie like this..

It has a feverish action-packed pace, and a ton of characters. So naturally, a critic is going to be disappointed that the character development can fall a little behind. But no time is wasted, and every character felt unique and fully-realized, and likeable. There are a couple characters that are laugh-out-loud funny, others that are just flat out cool/swaggy/flashy/fun, some even scary. This is a FUN thrill ride that everyone should give a chance to. This is not some awful Fantastic Four remake, but it also doesn't have the luxury of having every character get their own origin movie, so you have to just jump on the ride and enjoy. If you like imaginative worlds, violent, heart-pumping action, and memorable superpowered characters, this truly does an amazing job of balancing all of this with just enough plot and character development to glue it all together.

Please don't look too much into critic reviews, this just isn't an Oscar-winning drama or artistic marvel, it's an imaginative, rated R, bad a**, stylistic, violent, fun, action thrill ride in the vein of a Snyder's Watchmen, or Dredd, or Deadpool. All Mortal Kombat fans should be watching this 20 times over, and if you like Sci-fi/Fantasy and martial arts and a wide range of imaginative characters duking it out with everything on the line, this may be the beginning of a lifelong journey for you too.

Support this film because Sub-Zero is signed up for 4 more sequels (that's right, 4!) if it does well! Thank you so much to the directors, writers, actors and everyone who was responsible for this film that was so lovingly made with the source material put above all else!… Expand

Disclaimer : This is a movie made for fans of the game. You may find it difficult to follow if your not into the games, that's your fault, not the movie. This is how a game-made-movie adaptation should've been from the beginning, throwing you right into the action. This will tickle the fancy of every MK lover. The inclusion of Cole is unobtrusive to the overall MK lore while remaining true to the core of the franchise. Kano was written in very well, and cast even better. I was also surprised to see the Scorpion / Sub Zero story almost completely carried over from "Scorpions Revenge" (that's another great watch for the MK buff). With how well this sticks to the game franchise, I'm expecting a sequel.

A must see for the fans, as the movie remains faithful to many things they hold dear. Though the movie lacks a certain Hollywood polish, the uniqueness of the characters and world should serve as a great starting point to future installments.
