The action is great, everything else isn't. Nearly every character is wasted as the movie chooses to ignore the already established lore of the games in exchange for a plot that doesn't hold up once you think about for more than 5 seconds.

The new Mortal Kombat is a miserable experience full of bad writing, bad acting, bad cinematography, and bad editing. Say what you will about the 90s films, those were at least funny bad, and had some fun with the concept. This is just painful.

Fun little film. One of the movies you throw on in the background when painting models or playing a card game. You have to shut your brain off for this film or you will be questioning everything about the lore and the MK universe. Nothing is really bad here, just things that don't make much logical sense. The worst part about the film is race swapping Raiden. I could not get over it and sticks out like a sore thumb. Still, at least it's not Rings of Power or Disney Star Wars bad.

The graphics are good. The fatalities and fights are fun and wish some of the fights lasted a bit longer. There's a bunch of nods to the game series; little 'member berries scattered throughout but it's not too egregious. I do like the characters in the film and think they are decently written and the actors did a fine job as well. No one came off as annoying or woke. In fact, I thought some of of the cast were pretty fun. I have a bunch of nit picks about the film which is why I gave it a six out of ten. It just needed more depth and logic to the story and a bit more character development. Don't expect an award winning film here. It falls around the average for me - and considering the little experience the writers and Director had, they could have done a lot worse. At least it's not CBS Star Trek bad.… Expand

The worst aspect of this movie was the scriptwriting. From cringe lines (that were supposed to be badass) to mistimed lines, or both! The thing that stood out and was enjoyable (at least for me) was the action and violence, mainly the battle between scorpion and sub zero. The plot could have been better. A lot better. But the scriptwriting ruins it all. The idea of adding a human from todays day and age while relating to scorpion through his bloodline was a brilliant idea, but they could have done better than giving Cole bladed tonfas. Don't get me wrong, that idea was really creative, but it would've been cooler seeing a bloodline member of Hanzo dawning the same weapon or a weapon that's similar to the spear.… Expand

Perfect Mk Movie,Its a treat, speechless towards the end it was just goosebumps,The story was amazing focused on characters rather than full origin and tournament,The characters were iconic and amazing new addition as cole, The music was superb it was tense at times and the Cgi was great, The blood and gore was pleasingly awesome and the action scenes each of them were "Purely insane and Art" The starting scorpion fight as samurai the killings was just pure mayhem love it and his family killing was just bone chillingly dark, The sub-zero entries throughout the movie with "its getting cold in here" was awesome,The scorpion death was surprising and then the present day the cole family intro they were sweet and then the sub zero's quest to kill champions the cole's attack the restaurant scene the slow snow fall and sub-zero controlling snow with hands it was just eye catchingly beautiful, Then the jax's entry and his hands tear scene it was awesome, Then the sonya's and kano's entry the whole origin spalshed in minutes and then the lizard fight it was amazing, Then the jouney to temple of raiden. the lui's intro and the whole team meet and the power's unlocking quest the kano's absurd humor here and there with the jax reunite and then the shang's team cheating the tournament and finding earth champions the raiden's rescue and then the whole Cole's scorpion's relation and then the goro's fight at house it was intensely awesome, Then the kano's selling out the team and then the team to team fight and in that kung's fight with flying girl the hat tearing fatality the whole body cutting was just bloody epic then afterwards his soul ripping by shang that scene was amazing, The final act was just nuts, The teams one on one fight, The kano and sonya's fight the kano's eye squash with statue by sonya was awesome and The jax fight with head ripping enemy scene and the lui's dragon flame kill and the melina's kill by sonya after getting symbol from kano and activating power was amazing, Then the final fight with sub-zero the Cole's family kidnap and the Iconic entry of the scorpion to save cole it was just a goosebumbps moment, The further awesome fight with blood and snow it was just iconicly brilliant,the cole and scorpion together fighting sub-zero and subzero using snow tricks specailly the freezing blood in air to use as sword it was just insanely awesome and the killing of sub-zero by the two it was satisfying although sub-zero was just baddass, The ending with family together and the shang's sent back by raiden and the ending tease of johnny cage at hollywood it was just nuts it was peak MK satisfaction end,Overall it was just iconic, entertaining and a awesome experience, A masterpiece of game adaptation and Its a great movie!… Expand

The script was just awful from start to finish, Kano was the only part that made it enjoyable and most of kombat towards the end of the movie. I could not help myself but cringe through the entire film, it made no sense. If you came into this movie expecting it to win awards, be profound, or to see an American film have fight choreography on levels similar to The Raid... there's nothing "wrong" with that, however I'd recommend re-evaluating your expectations so you can have more fun movie-watching. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Joe Taslim steals the show as Sub-zero. Ludi Lin, Max Huang, and Hiroyuki Sanada are all excellent, especially considering they each had limited screen time. Most other characters are fairly forgettable. Josh Lawson as Kano was about 60/40 hit or miss and could get a bit irritating. I loved all the references to the games. The opening scene is absolutely fantastic. The final fight is a lot of fun as well, but not on the same level as the opening scene. For anyone complaining that "they don't actually fight in a tournament," I think that's a little petty. The final act of the movie is very much tournament style fighting and reminiscent of the source material. Understandably, the minds behind the film understand that they can't just keep making movies about another tournament and another tournament and another. I like the idea of introducing the characters and mythology first, trying to make that film as audience pleasing as possible, so you can come back and do the tournament in a later film.… Expand

I think they did a great job of staying true to the feel of the games with the short, regular fight sequences and including some of the characters signature moves. I think they've done a really good job of the casting too. If you aren't a fan of the games I could understand that you may be critical of the movie as it really plays to an audience who is already familiar with the MK franchise. Personally I was thoroughly entertained!… Expand

Не знаю как кому, а мне фильм не особо понравился. Смотрю, вроде всё на месте, а чего то не хватает и я понял чего. Фильму размаха не хватает. Фильм явно снят очень бюджетно, я даже думаю, что львиная доля этого бюджета ушла на начальнуюНе знаю как кому, а мне фильм не особо понравился. Фильм явно снят очень бюджетно, я даже думаю, что львиная доля этого бюджета ушла на начальную сцену сражения Скорпиона и Саб Зиро, она же рекламная сцена, она же и самый эффектный бой за иг... простите фильм.
Бои в фильме вообще страдают от какой то корявости. Такое ощущение, что снимали с одного дубля. Сильный смех вызвало появление Скорпиона в средневековых самурайских доспехах в конце фильма. Ну и сражался он соответственно.
Теперь о актёрах. Естественно они все практически никому не известные нонеймы. Бюджет. Но как же плохо они играют!!!
Этот дрищ Лю Канг, я так и не понял он своим фаерболом хоть в кого то попал? Абсолютно бестолковый персонаж. Так же взять этого идиота Кано, ну реально идиот. А ведь он называет себя главой организации «Чёрный Дракон». Теперь Рейден. Ну почему решили, что Рейден это спившийся китаец? При том хамло? Ну про Шанг Сунга говорить это зря время тратить. "Твоя душа мояяяя", "Твоя душа мояяяя".... Всегда думал, что колдун души забирает после победы в бою, а этот взял пробегающего мимо Кунг Лао высосал за здорова живешь....дааа.
Кстати Кунг Лао показался мне наиболее адекватным героем в этом сборище идиотов.
Ну бюджетность во всём и естественно в костюмах. Резиновые маски, резиновые доспехи, резиновое оружие это же бросается в глаза. Особенно порадовала фича с так называемой "арканой", это такая супер способность героя. Когда наш нонейм-протагонист обретает свою аркану-броню она красиво обтекает его торс и становится единым целым с ним. Но когда он обнимает свою семью в следующем кадре эта "супер броня" расходится и топорщится у него на спине как резиновая жилетка, ну неужели нельзя было как то это доработать, ах да бюджет маловат.
Нет, красивые сцены в фильме есть и не мало, но они нивелируются корявостью и не проработанностью обычных, "не компьютерных", так сказать, эпизодов.
Ну и теперь по поводу сюжета, он отстой полный! Ни один персонаж нормально не прописан. Вот он есть, и всё! Делай с ним чего хочешь. Кто он, откуда, почему воюет, почему попал на эту сторону, а не на ту, зачем вообще Саб Зиро вырезал весь клан Ширай Рю, если это месть, то за что? В фильме этого ничего нет от слова совсем.
Сравнивать с фильмом 1995 года нельзя ни при каком обстоятельстве. Это фильмы разного уровня. А вот с фильмом 1997 года сравнить можно, фильмы очень похожи.
На большом экране фильм смотрится очень бюджетно, но вот если это кино выпустить в виде какого нибудь 8 серийного приключения на Netflix или скажем Disney+, раскрыть истории персонажей, вот тогда он может и выстрелить! И превратится в такой "Мандалорец с Саб Зиро", а?… Expand

New film has the most random locations, Outworld is just rocks and Shang Tsung hanging around near a generic throne. There's no atmosphere at all. No feeling of mystery. Everything feels extremely dull. The only character that had personality was Kano while others channel less personality than fighters on a select screen. I do appreciate that creators respect the game and offer many references to it as well as pack this film with gore for which MK is known for. A prequel to the tournament could have been handled better if they stuck with solo stories. The need to get all the characters together feel forced. The story doesn't flow smoothly. However, I am optimistic about the sequel.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I can't say that this movie diverges more than that from what I rationally expected from the Mortal Kombat franchise. Yet it is very disappointing.

It perfectly showcases how shallow the franchise is: the lore could be way more precise and full of details. The characters are just the fighters we all know and they are 'useless' (as Raiden says) if they don't find and use their surnatural powers. The concept of death is really weird since Scorpion is able to come back to life. The protagonists spend the most part of the movie talking about a tournament we don't see in the end (maybe in the sequel who knows). There is no reason for Sub-Zero to be that strong, I mean why would Scorpion need the help of a rookie to defeat him? In general, what irritated me the most was the lack of attention of the producers leading to countless incorrect scenes: fighters have wounds that never heal, that disappear from their bodies to return later in the feature and people's positions always change even if they are not in motion.

Fortunately we deserve some mildly bloody sequences but same problem here: wounds are useless and never taken in account. If there are many easter eggs and special moves 'Mortal Kombat' wasn't that brutal to me excepted some particular scenes. The characters are really unattractive (especially Raiden and Sonya) and I found Kano to be dull and insipide. Cole Young (Lewis Tan) is so uncharismatic.

CGI is gorgeous (but how could it not be that way with the amount of money spend on this feature). Soundtrack is okay but uneven throughout the movie. Overall acting is terrible. Scenario is predictable. No replayability.… Expand

I couldn’t have cared any less for the main protagonist, who is a new character created just for the movie. The film works best when focusing on characters that we know. Some characters fall more short than others, but again I kind of expected that. Scorpion and Sub-Zero are by far the characters the film-makers took the most time and care with, with Kano and Raiden falling next in line. The rest of cast fall into various levels of suck - but again I had a blast watching it. I have to be honest, though

I personally will be buying the film first chance I get on Blu-ray. So that should tell you something. But I also totally get why this movie is a pure failure for a lot. For me, it’s just so much fun, and I hope they continue to expand this world with more films.… Expand

Im very happy that they made a Mortal Kombat movie. Of course some things werent as good and some were great and maybe they shouldn't added a character, who isnt in the games, but anyway I enjoyed it as a Mortal Kombat game fan

Ok not the best movie ever made, but it was a fun action fantasy movie and as gory as the games so. The bad guys character development were paper thin so unless you know the characters from the game it's going to be who's that? Personally I would of liked a cat and mouse revenge take set in feudal japan than all the cheesy modern day stuff. That would of made the film a whole lot classier for sure. At times this Mortal Kombat felt like Mortal Kombat Annihilation.… Expand

Что же я могу сказать по поводу этого фильма? Смог ли он изменить мое мнение. Что ж хотелось бы начать с того, что после просмотра данного фильма я был в полном ужасе. Дело даже не в том, что фильм оказался для меня, фаната этой классной вселенной, ужасно плох. Меня ужаснула реакция людей, которые получали от этого фильма огромное удовольствие. Оказывается, можно снять откровенную халтуру и замаскировать её огромной кучей фансервиса — а зритель будет доволен.
1) Начать хочу с Турнира, которого в фильме… просто нет.
«Но постойте, — возразит знакомый с франшизой читатель, — ведь в большей части игр Турнира тоже не было!». Да, всё верно, но это первый фильм в серии, и он должен был быть посвящен именно Турниру.
2) Что должно быть в центре фильма по Mortal Kombat? Турнир, драки, спасение мира. Нет, в центре фильма — суперспособности, избранные и пророчество. В здешнем Турнире участвуют не лучшие из лучших, а обладатели особой метки в виде дракона, которую можно получить от рождения или убив другого носителя метки. Кому принадлежит эта идея, это же полная хрень!!!
3) Персонажи:
Хорошо: Кано, Соня Блэйд.
Нормально: Кун Лао, Скорпион, Саб-Зиро, Кабал.
Средне: Коул Янг.
Плохо: Шан Цзун, Милина, Джакс, Лю Кан.
Ужасно: Рэйден, Рептилия, Горо, Нитара, Рейко.
Этому фильму можно простить многое, можно придумать много оправданий: «у создателей было мало денег», «это режиссёрский дебют», «ну это же фильм категории B». Вы меня конечно извините, но это ужасное кино!!!

After the disastrous box office bomb and critical flopped of 1997’s Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, there were no Mortal Kombat movies for nearly two decades until the direct-to-video release of 2020’s Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge and this movie. As for this movie, it is a reboot and not connected to the first two movies. Unlike the first two movies and just like Scorpion’s Revenge, the reboot is rated R.

An MMA fighter named Cole Young (Tan) and his family are attack by Bi-Han/Sub-Zero (Taslim) but Special Forces Major Jackson “Jax” Briggs and his partner, Sonya Blade (McNamee), manage to rescue them in time. Jax stay behind while he fight Sub-Zero but he end up losing both his arms. Once Cole got his family to safety, he and Sonya go to her hideout.

At her hideout, he learn that about a deathmatch tournament called Mortal Kombat. The tournament was created to give Earthrealm a chance to defend themselves from Outworld. Now that the latter have won nine out of ten tournaments, they just need to win one more tournament so that they can invade Earthrealm legally.

Cole also learn that he has a dragon marking which means he has been chosen to represent Earthrealm in the upcoming tournament. Cole and Sonya reluctantly recruit an Australian mercenary, Kano, after being attacked by Reptile. Together, they travel to Raiden’s temple where they meet the other fighters, Liu Kang and Kung Lao, in order to be train for the tournament. Meanwhile, a soul-eating sorcerer, Shang Tsung, with the help from his minions have begin killing Earthrealm’s fighters with dragon marking before the next tournament starts.

First of all, I’ve got to say that this reboot is good. It is definitely much better than Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. Not only it is much better, the movie is faithful to the source material. The movie cashed in on the rated R and the inclusion of the franchise’s iconic signature, Fatality. This is what Mortal Kombat should be. Full of bloody, gore and violence like the video games which the first two movies do not have due to those movies being rated PG-13. The fighting scenes are really well done and much better than the previous movies. It is so well shot that it feels you are watching cutscenes from Mortal Kombat video games.

The characters in the movie resemble the characters from the video game which is another reason why this movie is faithful to the source material. The acting in this movie great especially Joe Taslim and Josh Lawson. For the former, he played the character very well as an intimidating villain like he is the main antagonist of the movie instead of Shang Tsung. As for the latter, he is perfect for the role of Kano, Besides sharing the same nationality, Josh is very much as Australian person you could find in real life. He is also played the role of comic relief really well which I cannot stop laughing. He stole every scenes in the movie. Let’s not forget about Hiroyuki Sanada, who played Hanzo Hasashi/Scorpion in the movie. Despite not having much screen time, he played the character very well and he even get to say his iconic catchphrase better than how he said it in the trailer. I hope to see him more and play bigger role in the sequel if there is one.

On the bad side of the movie, I felt the storyline in the movie is rushed. Because of that, some characters do not have much developement including Cole Young. Speaking of Cole, I felt that he was overshadowed by the other characters to the point of being forgettable due to Cole being movie exclusive character. Shang Tsung did not even have much screen time as the main antagonist and the role was pretty much took over by Sub-Zero.

Nevertheless, this movie is still good but neither the best nor worst video game movie. As far as I know, this movie is definitely much better than Mortal Kombat: Annihilation which I have said earlier. Whether you think is movie is better than the 1995 movie or the other way around, is up for debate. If you are a fan of Mortal Kombat, don’t miss this one. I cannot wait for the sequel especially how the ending teases another famous and iconic character from the video game.… Expand

In the past we have seen some terrible movie adaptations of Mortal Kombat and I had no intention of watching this movie when it came out. When my friends invited me to watch a movie with them I did not expect it to be the New MK movie and was less than thrilled. After seeing the movie for the first time I can honestly say that it passed my expectations by an exponential amount. The choreographed fight scenes were exhilarating to watch, the character cameos were on point, and the cheesy one liners were not overused. I enjoyed watching a diverse cast of actors that fit well into their roles with the exception of Cole Young played by Lewis Tan. I didn’t particularly think his acting was on par with his cast members and kept wondering why he was picked for the main role of this movie. He did exceptionally well in the fight scenes but his delivery in the more conversational parts of the movie were lacking. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's difficult to make a movie about Mortal Kombat, it's a game with a strange story with strange characters but this movie...is better than the previous one but always a mess.
The moves and the quotes are pretty accurate but well...it's just that.
The new protagonist is the worst of the worst, zero acting and lame lines, even Raiden is portrayed as a douchebag instead of a wise guide.
But the major pile of **** is the "arcana thing"...SERIOUSLY?? Kano, Jax and Sonya's technological equip are now SUPERPOWERS??? Kano use a robotic eye for the laser and Sonya a device on the wrists...NOT **** SUPERPOWERS.
Can we talk about the power of the "heir of Scorpion"? an "armor with 2 random tonfas"??.
Getting an armor is now a superpower guys...I've seen all, that **** was on the level of Dragonball Evolution.
Why 1 point score? because Sub-Zero was pretty amazing and Scorpion too...the only good part.
This movie is a Dragonball Evolution but a little bit more accurate, it's like an amateur movie with a decent budget.
Mortal Kombat is a difficult universe to portray as a movie, to do that you need a giant budget and make it a kolossal movie or you will always get Dragonball Evolution vibes… Expand

Warrior King, Who Am I, SPL, to name but a few slightly more obscure ones to the obvious people who recommend The Raid, Ong-Bak or Ip Man over and over.
Anyway. Mortal Kombat isn't bad, it's truly not, but it's also not good. The plot is, at the same time, over complicated and barely there, it's strange. Also why in films like this are they incapable of hiring actors who can fight and act? Michael Jai White was perfect as Jax in that weird MK short series thing. But the biggest problem is Cole. Why do they do that thing of adding in a new character just to introduce newcomers to the "verse" of the film? You can do that with exsisting characters you know. Cole could've just been a re-written Johnny Cage or how about stick with Liu Kang, the main character of the game or even Scorpion like the trailers make you believe it is.
I could rant alot about this film and I know it seems i'm hating alot on it, but truth be told I enjoyed it. There's alot wrong with it sure, but it was still a fun watch. I don't understand the hate for a Mortal Kombat film, it's Mortal Kombat, are you expecting The Godfather?!
But in all honesty, the original is more fun, plus it has the proper song.… Expand

Any criticisms you read are likely valid, but despite that, I found myself enjoying the movie.

The first act did a good job of hooking me, which made me more forgiving as it fell apart later on, but at under two hours it’s over before it over stays it’s welcome and it’s only thinking about the movie after the fact where I realized what a mess it was. While watching it was fun.
I recently criticized “Army of the dead” for just being dumb without the fun, but this movie is an example of dumb fun being accurate.

I actually think the creation of Cole Young to ground the movie was a good decision. I just wish they grounded things with more than exposition dumps and that Young turned out to be a cooler character once he found his powers. So a wise decision that could have been executed better....which probably could be said for much of the movie.
Despite that, when the movie ended I found myself reminiscing of the MK games from my youth, questioning the actual lore from the world and willing to watch a sequel, so despite all its flaws that means they must have done something right,… Expand

I have a hard time scoring this. On one hand: movies based on video games are never really gonna reach Oscar status. Yet, I was entertained from start to end. Enjoyed this more the second time. I have a feeling that this is going to turn into a guilty pleasure movie for me. I had a fun time watching it. Is it still very rushed? Yes. But this is just a quick little movie that I wouldn't mind rewatching. It did get me interested enough in the franchise to the point that I picked up MKX for PS4. Still very new to it, but I am having a lot of fun with the game. Mainly just training for now. It might take one or two more rewatches to do this, but this may join Hellboy (2019) in my list of dumb fun/guilty pleasure/popcorn movies. Though I still prefer Hellboy. That movie is a total blast and you should all watch it. This one is decent too.… Expand

I just got done watching it and as a life long fan of the franchise it was awesome and I think everyone involved did great. Make no mistake, the movie makes some pretty woeful mistakes, namely not including any sort of tournament element in the plot and trying to explain away why certain characters have laser vision/can control ice/grow cybernetic arms(?), but I suppose I'm not really here for anything other than seeing characters fighting. The movie at least has fights - and some pretty good ones, at that. I only wish that potential future installments bring more of the game's spirit into the fold and onto those eye-catching exercises in set piece design.… Expand

Went with low expectations and was thankfully surprised as it held my interest.

Needed more time to flesh out story and characters.

Felt bad for the guy playing Jax, his script was terrible

People keep talking about the plot weaknesses and lack of character development, etc...

This movie was to set the stage for a huge franchise. The actors were all signed for FOUR follow-up films at minimum if this was a success.

After 25 years of waiting, can't you all see that five films would provide more than enough time to tell all stories and more?

I've watched this movie six times and I'm currently about 20 min into my seventh. Yes, I enjoy the hell out of this movie.

I think people have become institutionalized by the Marvel Universe. Meaning, the Avengers movies felt so much heavier because all the characters were so developed.

News flash! Many of the characters had their own movie or several!!!

How the hell can you make an entire movie about any MK character without all the others???

Answer that and I'll agree to hear the ****

This movie is great. Mark my words, in time, we will all come to appreciate what has been done here.

I only hope that all the **** reviews haven't ruined our chances at future films.

If you haven't seen this, WATCH IT.

Fans of the Mortal Kombat series have known that the path to bringing the violent and controversial game to live-action formats has been a mixed bag. While the first film in 1995 was a decent hit; the follow-up in 1997 disappointed fans whoFans of the Mortal Kombat series have known that the path to bringing the violent and controversial game to live-action formats has been a mixed bag. While the first film in 1995 was a decent hit; the follow-up in 1997 disappointed fans who had grown weary of the PG-13 take on the series.

Subsequent efforts such as the 2011 television series also left fans wanting more; especially since the game series had become even more graphic and violent.

An animated film released in 2020 gave fans a taste of what they wanted as it featured graphical violence which many fans believed was essential to properly catch the spirit and action of the series.

The latest offering in the series “Mortal Kombat”; reboots the cinematic universe and gives fans the intense, brutal, and graphic violence that they have demanded. The film keeps the basic premise that the Outworld realm has won nine tournaments in a row, and based on the ancient laws; one more victory would allow them to take control of the Earth.

Raiden the Thunder God (Tadanobu Asano); who has been tasked with protecting Earth looks to assemble and train a band of champions to save Earth. Naturally, this is not going to be easy as Shang Tsung (Chin Han); is not willing to follow the rules of the tournament and dispatches his top fighter (Sub Zero (Joe Taslim) to dispatch the champions of Earth before the tournament in a clear violation of the rules in order to ensure total victory.

What follows is solid and very graphic action which contains gore and brutality on a level that almost kept the film from earning an R-rating. The action sequences are well-choreographed and there were some great recreations of classic moves by characters from the game series which were really well utilized and did not seem like gratuitous pandering.

While the plot is fairly simplistic and does not deviate greatly from the source material; it does give a larger backstory to the universe. It was really enjoyable to see many nods to the franchise throughout both subtle and overt and while some characters were glaringly absent which was a surprise; the characters that were included were really solid to see and the door was wide open for their inclusion at a later date.

While the cast does not contain any star power in terms of what Western audiences might expect from a major studio release; the ensemble works well and do a great job in bringing their characters to life.

The film leaves sequels wide open and teases a character that in my opinion was a glaring omission from the film. That being said; “Mortal Kombat” gives fans a solid adaptation that does not shy away from gore and violence and gives fans the cinematic experience that they have wanted.

La verdad esta película esperaba muy poco de ella, y que bueno que mis expectativas jamás cambiaron xD pero la verdad esta película es una porqueria, para empezar el guión flojea muchísimo, hay varias cosas que no tienen sentido alguno. En cuanto a los personajes no tiene ningún tipo de desarrollo, el nuevo personaje se siente muy seco, y los demás no llegan a ser muy interesantes.
Lo que cabe recalcar es que las peleas fueron buenas ( o por lo menos la mayoría), y los fatalities fueron increíbles. En fin, creo que tienen bastante material para hacer una segunda parte que sea buena, solo que cambien al guionista por uno que si sepa escribir.
En conclusión: la película es muy tediosa, las peleas son buenas pero no lo suficiente para que vuelvas a ver la película.… Expand

Great movie, if you followed the games and their story. The actors do a great job, effects are top notch and there is no BS, don't get fooled by some negative reviews.

The story is just... Not great... And that's putting it nicely.

Feels predictable, poorly done and the pacing is just so jarring. Whole film felt like a giant **** of confusion and failed ideas.

I am not big fan of the game but the movie was entertaining for me. It had great action and fight choreography along with good special effects. Characters and their abilities were also very well done.

I was about 15 when the original movie came out when garbage like this was almost acceptable.
This movie is atrocious, I knew it would be average at best, but its worse than I could have ever imagined.

The dialogue is as if a horny, angry 14 year old wrote it.
Its just garbage.
Watch the first 5 minutes, have a sleep, and watch the last 5 minutes, or just watch the trailer and look at the poster because they're the best parts of the atrocity.
Hollywood is dying and this is why.… Expand

The fight scenes are amazing. It's no spoiler that fatalities are included in this, and they are glorious. That itself is worth even going to the theater to see it. This movie is amazing and finally the movie mk fans deserve. It's fast moving, brutal like the game, stays true to the game, and new aging of Cole young fits very well and doesn't feel forced.

Tl;DR - A lot of people touted that the curse of bad video game movies finally ended with Sonic, I didn't fully agree with this. But seeing something just as iconic as the latter makes me believe it a little more, Mortal Kombat movie is notTl;DR - A lot of people touted that the curse of bad video game movies finally ended with Sonic, I didn't fully agree with this. But seeing something just as iconic as the latter makes me believe it a little more, Mortal Kombat movie is not some amazing recreation of the game but a competent argument for the 'Video game movies are now good' side.

The Good
A lot of things were well done, primarily the fight scenes and I believe that the character's personalities are well captured from the overall mythos of Mortal Kombat franchise.

The gore was welcome and so was the competent CGI that was used to create this movie, some uncanny valley stuff pops up here and there but everything pretty much holds up.

The best part of the movie was Kano however, I did not expect to enjoy the smart/foul mouthed Australian stereotype portrayal. I guess casting a true blue Aussie like Josh Lawson paid of well. I was genuinely sad to see him die, hopefully some Shang Tsung sorcery will bring him back for a sequel. Shout out to Sanada for giving a short but great performance as Hanzo/The face of the MK franchise aka Scorpion.

Jessica/Blade, Mechad/Jax, Han/Tsung, Lin/Liu, Huang/Lao and Asano/Raiden all looked like they enjoyed their time on sets and really got the essence of the MK franchise in their interactions.

The Bad
My one hope is that Cole does not come back in the sequel or if he does they give him the Cage treatment from Annihilation and then transfer over the POV of the hero to the actor that plays Cage.
Cole was quite boring just stumbling from one set piece to another except for the end where he faces off vs Goro. I get the need for a audience viewpoint into a new world but do all these slapped on characters in such franchises need to be a wet towel, I'm sure they can do better.

The pacing was a bit off, going briskly from plot point to plot point at a good speed and then just turbocharging into the climax suddenly it was a bit abrupt but manageable.

All in all this was a fun watch just like Sonic, not gonna be watching this again for a while but hopefully there will be a sequel.

The spirit is there and even though the 95 movie will always be my jam this is a good attempt nonetheless that deserves one more chance to get it right.… Expand

Cool martial arts film with great fan service. I like Cole Young as well and I hope he makes it in a new mortal kombat movie
