I remember the original one to be much more mysterious, whereas this one just seems to spell it out for you. The originals atmosphere and location was vivid, whereas this one will not even make you feel cold and you feel like your on a set with fake snow. A lot of the CGI is badly done, a lot. I could go on, but you get the picture. I did like how they spent more time on the couples relationship. If you have not seen the original then go see this at the theater and enjoy, but if you have already seen the original and are interested then just wait for video. Expand

It's quite a bit better than what passes for a vampire film these days. The problem is that Hollywood tends to take source material and "up-sell" it with loud sound effects, car crashes and explosions. I see this time and again with comic book movies and films made from novels. Less often, we get good foreign films that are changed around to fit what a Hollywood director or studio wants to sell to the American audience. There was absolutely nothing wrong with Let The Right One In. It had a creepy isolation vibe, sympathetic lead characters, a good plot, nice pacing, good editing, etc. I really don't feel that Let Me In captured the feel of the original. There were some good scenes left out or changed which really added to the building suspense with the town's residents as they realize something is very wrong. The car crash scene replaces a very tense scene and just doesn't feel right.

The editing was slightly wrong to me as well. The opening scene in the remake does not occur until much later in the film. I've always thought the flash-forward/flash-back technique is overused, but here it's just tacked onto the beginning to grab the audience's attention. It doesn't really add to the film, and in my opinion, subtracts from the later events as you already know where they are going to go later, you just have the details filled in for you as the film progresses.

Long story short: There's no really compelling reason to see this one if you've seen Let The Right One In, but if you haven't, get on Netflix NOW.

Different opening, and slightly more spelled out with an excellent car crash scene do not make this a better movie. It kept the pace about the same, the mood is slightly altered with the additional of terrible CGIs. Nicely shot and acted, but ultimately a remake of the same thing without subtitles, that it. Expand

exactly what conschobhar said. This film is fairly average, and would've been an entertaining night out for those who haven't seen the original I guess, but seriously - watch let the right one in, if you cant deal with subtitles, then you'reexactly what conschobhar said. Unfortunately, while it may be unfair to compare this film to Let the Right One In, there is nothing about Let Me In that would encourage me to recommend it over the original, except for the rather clever incorporation of the 1980's setting.Unfortunately, while it may be unfair to compare this film to Let the Right One In, there is nothing about Let Me In that would encourage me to recommend it over the original, except for the rather clever incorporation of the 1980's setting. I appreciate that the director did not attempt to make a more mainstream horror film, however, the result is still slightly watered down. The fact is, this should simply not have been attempted. Go watch the original. Expand

It has some strong points such as the photography and the effects, but honestly it is a very hollywood version (in the bad sense). The relationship between the characters is cheesy compared to the original, and adding the cop plot to add tension or the whole vampires-need-to-be-invited thing to make it more accesible to the american public is destroying all the originality of the book and swedish film. As much as I love M Giaccino's work, the music is annoying half of the time... and do not add the much needed tension. The american version removed most of the character development, and tried to turn it into a horror film failing completely. Very disappointing. Expand

Watched it to see if Matt Reeves took a fresh take on the original story.. So, why was this made? The story from both films still puzzles me. The story from both films still puzzles me. The vampire mythos include tales of people afflicted with a craving for blood, but those with some kind of moral compass (one like Chloe Moretz seems to demonstrate) keeps human cattle, or takes blood without killing. If this film seeks to interrogate our moral approach towards vampires, killing everyone for blood seems the wrong way to go about it. Chloe is bad & must perish if she can't see some alternative to murder. Great emotive sub-story, but our sympathy for the plight of the afflicted girl & lonely boy should evaporate when they decide that murder is okay. Expand

Damn you CGI! Could have done without it. This movie is entertaining, but not nearly as good as the original. It's borderline mediocre, but thanks to a great cast especially Richard Jenkins' haunting performance, it avoids being avoidable.

Based on an award winning Swedish film, Let Me In, tells the story of a lonely 12 yrs old kid who is befriended by a vampire, who moves in next door. Chloe Moretz was amazing as Abby, following her role in Kick-Ass, this girl is definitely going places. I didn't like Abby much thou. I found her very manipulative, not to mention how creepy it is that an ageless vampire, who looks like a little girl, is hooking up with a 12 yrs old kid. While the critics loved this film, I saw it as a dark, slower, more gory version of Twilight, except with younger kids. To be honest with you, the whole thing kind of just weirded me out. Expand
