Usually I am not into this type of film. However it turned out to be quite well made as far as this genre is concerned.

I like the concept that they picked a bunch of students in high school to be the characters who would roleplay the videoUsually I am not into this type of film. However it turned out to be quite well made as far as this genre is concerned.

I like the concept that they picked a bunch of students in high school to be the characters who would roleplay the video game characters in Jumanji. It starts out fresh, and would draw appeal to high school teens especially.

There are a quite a few funny moments. A few really good ones. Others are kinda forced/cheesy, but acceptable if you know what to expect from this kind of film.

The characters in the film learnt along the difficult path to their goals, to bond and grow to become better people.

Overall this is an okay movie to watch for general entertainment. Just don't expect too much from this in terms of depth.… Expand

This movie was fun to watch. It's very funny and has a decent plot. The cast is great too. Characters are pretty generic though. It's a fair distance from perfect, but it is a great, humorous adventure film.

Aspectos Positivos- O filme é realmente pura aventura e comédia e tem uma história engraçada. Divertiu-me, os actores são bons e todo o conceito de jogo está bem criado.

Aspectos Negativos- As falas entres os personagens são muito cliches e torna o filme mais para jovens do que para todas as idades. O vilão acaba por ser péssimo e irrelevante no jogo em si, não sendo o tão temivel Boss como acontece nos video jogos.

Finalizando é um filme divertido e que se vê bem,graças ao bom elenco de actores e conceito de ser um filme em modo jogo.… Expand

One of the most cliche, preditcable movies of the year, and yet it isn't even nearly the worst. The characters aren't interesting, despite the solid performances. Solider Film. Ein paar Lacher hatte ich schon. Trotzdem hatte ich wenig Verbindung zum ersten Zeil bei diesem Film. Zum Sonntag schauen im FreeTV reicht mir der Film. Er ist nicht schlecht, jedoch auch weit weg von gut.

Both Jake Kasdan (Bad Teacher) and Jumanji 1995's quality could've easily bombed this remake,especially considering Kasdan's lineup of movies he directed.

Luckily (and surprisingly) this movie isn't just fun,but also an easy appeal to videogame fans and the new generation of teenagers. When the 4 students get sucked into the game,that's where the movie starts to have its focus,with Dwayne Johnson,Jack Black and Karen Gillan playing against type (and Kevin Hart as well,even if sometimes he's just being Hart). Also,I heard of this complain on the internet where fans were angry about Gillan's charachter being almost shirtless,and I disagree with it,since a videogame needs to have a sexy female charachter (not everytime,though).
The story is good enough,with loads of fun moments (including,somehow,some toilet humor),some exciting action scenes full of excellent stunts and an impressive way of directing them,your typical videogame cliches,and the goofy (if not also adventurous) score by Henry Jackman (Big Hero 6 and Kingsman).
And yes,while this movie is full of CGI,you can still justify the fact that they're stuck in a videogame.
But some downsides are still there. As said,Kevin Hart's character can sometimes be wooden and some of the toilet humor can be kind of gross (especially for a PG-13 movie).
But you can still (safely) enjoy this movie with your family and kids will mostly have a good time at this (believe me,my auditorium was almost packed with kids).
Of course it's better than the 1995 original,if you needed those terms.… Expand

I enjoyed this movie. The acting was good usually, but I didn’t think the real world versions of each character were that good (when in the game the actors were great). When 4 very different teenagers end up in detention for some reason, to spend time they decide to play an old video game that was in the room, a different video game that actually puts them inside of the game, living the story living and being the characters that was choosed by them. One of the better things that the movie got, is how different her characters and their abilities are from they real selves, like they are forced to learn and to experience things from a different perspective.
The movie tries to simulate a video-game in every aspect, and i can say that they are kind of successfully with it, how they impersonate npc's, in an old way but it is fun how they keep repeating what they say until someone do something, and how every character have skills and weakness, how one is needed to complete certain section of the game and they are necessary dependent from the others, like only one can read the map and know where to go and other that can carry stuff for example, did liked to how they had limited lifes, and giving a urgency sense that if they die in the game, they would also die in the real life.
The acting is very good, The Rock did a great job interpreting a introverted nerd, with his insecurity and look, you could really imagine that he was that teenager, Dwayne also have a pretty good comic time. Kevin Hart is surely the funnier one here, in the matter of playing the same character that we did saw before he isn't that good, he does pretty much himself most of the time, but it did worked a lot, he really gonna make you laugh a bunch of times with his way of speak and his time, his character is the weakest and only work for support and Kevin work with it in a great way. Jack Black plays a girl that is very hot and she knows that, that put a bunch of boys in her feet, post a lot on instagram to get likes, she thinks that she is the owner of the world, this kind of girl, the way that he did it is simply great, Jack Black being a party girl is hilarious, the way that he talks and act like her are all gorgeous, the development during the movie also was very good the way that he hold. Finally Karen Gillan, her character was also a introverted girl that didn't like much people, neither to talk to anyone, i loved how she portrayed her, and how embarrassed she was, in some moments it's needed she to use her prettiness to achieve something, considering that her character is shy, she did a fun and very well done job.
I like that the movie have a precept that we only have one life to spend, and we gotta do and be what we want, without being scared or afraid, the question is how you gonna live. This is quoted a few times, but it worked for me, i liked.
It is very superficial and very repetitive. Thoose stereotypes that a nerd is always a guy that can't talk, don't have friends and does not fit, or that the football dude is a guy that don't talk with other people that aren't to cool for him, doesn't please me, i believe that it isn't the time for those things anymore.
I could say that the movie have very bad CGI, but if you consider that it emulates a video game it makes completely sense, could also say that the story is bad and simply in a tremendous way(wich could make us bored), but a lot of video games are like that to, with simply villains and simply dialogues, considering that the game turns in the 90's. The movie works because it doesn't took itself seriously, and critic a bunch of things and nothing offends. But it is a fun movie that you possibly gonna laugh and have a fun time.… Expand

I always find the Rock a infectious larger than life on screen personality who is just a lot of fun to watch in general. The supporting cast do a good enough job, but this is the Rocks movie. Actually surprisingly better than I expected. Coming to watch this movie, I was expecting a pretty lame original Jumanji rip off, but it does well to reference the original one without copying it. Performances from all of the cast were pretty good, not amazing, but still all right, and the overall story was good. Great combination of action, sense of adventure and humor, however, is mainly aimed at teens, and really no one else. You could wait for this to come out later in the year on DVD or other forms but would be a good movie to go and watch in the cinema. It is hard for the audience to see a character development within the teenagers, but rather Black, Hart, Johnson, and Gillan in the actual Jumanji. With all of this said, it was a good movie and could have been a lot worse… Expand

This was exactly the movie I needed to get over the trauma of TLJ. Very funny with expected gags. The cast fit into each of their roles perfectly (Jack Black was extremely funny). For a reboot, a score of 8 is just about as good as it gets!

We were originally going to see the new Star Wars, but my nephew really wanted to see this so we saw this instead. Glad we did. Very fun, funny movie with a great cast. It is understandable why this is so critically low rated. But when it comes to movies of this genre and to movies that have Dwayne Johnson, it simply doesn't matter. Johnson, Jack Black and Kevin Hart are simply so well cast and hilariousIt is understandable why this is so critically low rated. But when it comes to movies of this genre and to movies that have Dwayne Johnson, it simply doesn't matter. Johnson, Jack Black and Kevin Hart are simply so well cast and hilarious (bit too obviously but that won't be a problem). Even Karen Gillan as Ruby Roundhouse pulls her weight. Go with somebody and get your guts laughed out. I can vouch for that.
Despite it lack of innovative narrative, it does its bit to not seem out of place and the audience will get the reflection of work put in. One of those movies whose trailers tell you exactly what it is and doesn't shortchange you for it. That's all.… Expand

Not a bad movie, especially the disappointment of watching TLJ. If you have seen the trailers, then there is nothing that is going to surprise you with this film, plenty of laughs as you would expect, light hearted escapism is what the Dr ordered!

Never thought I would say this since the fact that when I read the announcement and saw the cast for the film, I thought it was gonna be crap! And then I saw the Trailer and the title of the film and thought " Aw *** here we go anotherNever thought I would say this since the fact that when I read the announcement and saw the cast for the film, I thought it was gonna be crap! And then I saw the Trailer and the title of the film and thought " Aw *** here we go another Ragnarok and Justice League 80's song pointless title" Then a friend of mine dragged me to see it and I was very pleasantly surprised! "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" Is a very entertaining film! I really enjoyed the teen humor, the character arcs and the overall goofiness to the film. Also enjoyed that despite lurking in the shadows of the original it manages to be a good sequel but do it's own thing! although, Robin Williams is sadly missed...… Expand

It was a real work of an artist this one. The art for comedy and nostalgia. I have to give credit for the genre tags and they got the movie accordingly done, very well indeed. The actors did very good delivering a character with a mindset that they did not match their or their character's personalities, and it was very fun to watch which made for a lot of laugh out loud moments and puns and pop culture references. The writing was genius and very creative with all it's options and still remaining family friendly. The directing was very good the music helped the entertainment aspect out a lot. But the visuals where really well done except for 2-3 shots in the whole movie which looked terrible. The plot was really great, and video game like, which all gave it an interesting vibe. Overall it's a very good movie and everything was done very good in terms of entertainment and fun. But given the fact that this is not a serious movie and there is no real message in the movie and some other missing elements of a legendary masterpiece movie. I've seen the original of this movie which is why I was kinda skeptic to watch this one. However, this movie was quite a pleasant reboot. This film is a set of almost's. Its almost funny enough to get a laugh out more than a couple of times during the movie. Its almost fun enough to allow me to see it as a guilty pleasure. Its almost so bad that its good, but it never quite crosses that line into complete nonsense.

Other than that, it also manages to lack any of the charm and character that set the original as one of the better mid-90's blockbusters. For example, take the villains; think of how memorable Van Pelt was in the original Jumanji film; in contrast, is there anything the villain in this film does that is in any way memorable at all?!

I will award some credit for some of the funnier moments, and for the sheer inability of this film to take itself very seriously at all, which is 100% what this film should be doing more of - silly is not a bad thing, and neither necessarily is not asking anything of its audience; however the humour never quite lives up to itself to justify its own silliness. The action almost does, and if the ending had went out with a little more of a bang rather than a piffle, I would have possibly given more credit and rated this film a little higher. With a few differences, given the potential in the premise, this film could have been a lot of fun, but as it is its a bit of a disappointment, which is not ideal when potential expectations are low to begin with.… Expand

This was a surprisingly good movie; come to think of it, all of the movies featuring The Rock have been awesome lately. This movie was fun to watch. It's very funny and has a decent plot. The humour in the entire movie keeps walking a really fine line - anything more would be either cliche, ham fisted or plain gross, but the way it's written and acted out makes it hilarious while remaining on the side of good taste. A lot of sequels don’t live up to the originals, especially when it’s a whole new cast and really a new type of film. This one does! Very funny and it’s well done on so many levels.

Danny Devito and Kevin Hart are pretty much amazing in this movie from start to finish. Also, Dwayne Johnson goes sicko mode half way through the movie and it's quite funny.

A big budget, mainstream action/comedy from Hollywood that follows all the usual tropes. Entertaining enough but not that memorable.

The only critic I can find about this movie is its streamlined nature. But it's not like Stranger Things. The writers found a way to reboot Jumanji in a relatable and modern way where these streamlined ideas don't appear manufactured. I also like how the writers play with typical cliches and show a mirror of typical judgmental ideas by joining characters and their Jumanji avatars. A reboot/sequel to a classic film that nobody was asking for. Ultimately it's a pretty damn fun ride. Great cast, Karen Gillan especially kills it.
