Dispatching the lengthy one-liner, "Oh my God it's Jason Bourne" for the simplistic, "Oh," when a poor sap realizes who is after them, Chapter 2 of this saga is another stylish entry into this newfound action franchise. Dishing out headshots like Oprah Winfrey gives away cars, John Wick: Chapter 2 finds the famed Boogeyman fighting for his life once again. After losing his wife, dog, and car, in the first film, Wick loses his freedom this time around via Italian crime boss Santino D'Antonio (Riccardo Scarmacio). Cashing in a marker given to him by John that let Wick get out of the game the first time around, Santino thrusts him back into the world of assassin work by tasking him to kill Santino's sister, Gianna (Claudia Gerini). Unraveling from there, the world comes crashing down around Wick with Gianna's bodyguards, fellow assassins, and then the entire world all coming down on him by the film's end.

As with the original, John Wick: Chapter 2 has absolutely exquisite action sequences. With a seamless flow and orchestral feeling to the action, the film is a sight for sore eyes. While its love of headshots leaves the film blood soaked, the fight sequences always take center stage. It is like watching a ballet with two equal foes entering in a dance with one another that only one will survive. Former stuntman turned director Chad Stahelski continues to show what makes this franchise so appealing: its gorgeous stunts and fight choreography. For those who do not believe that action can be beautiful and put together in such a fine-tuned and structured fashion that it becomes like a dance with guns and knives, John Wick continues to stand as the perfect counter to that claim. Yet, its choreography is not all that makes the film's action appealing. Utilizing great set pieces - such as the Reflections on Self exhibit in the museum that plays out like a hall of mirrors - there is always some new secret or foe hiding around every corner. They are nuanced, extravagant, and detailed sets that allow Stahelski and his star, Keanu Reeves, to really feel their way around the dance floor and find out what spot on the set is the perfect one for each move. Alongside this, Stahelski's refusal to turn the film into a handheld camera mess continuously rewards the viewer with steady, heavily digital, and incredibly crisp action scenes. The camera certainly moves, to be clear, but it is never jarring. Instead, it is in rhythm with Wick and the action with no frivolous cuts that could disorient or distract from what is taking place. Instead, the fight is given room to breathe and it takes incredibly deep breaths.

Matching the gorgeous visuals of the fight sequences is the color scheme of the film. With its neon backlighting in every sequence, it is hard to deny that John Wick is a truly stylish film. Tossing in a gorgeous usage of blue blended with any number of warm colors, John Wick: Chapter 2 is a truly beautiful film. With the crispness of digital photography matching perfectly with the film's neon aesthetic, the composition of shots and blending of colors in the background make this a film that is littered with eye candy. Together with those aforementioned fight scenes and the film is one with visuals that far exceed the quality of its plot and acting. Whenever the story may slack or a line comes off awkwardly, the film's impeccable use of color always picks it up off of the ground. The framing and composition are similarly top-notch, particularly in the sequence with Gianna. As she lies naked in a tub with the blood from her wrists taking over the water, the camera rises to the ceiling and looks down upon her. In a candle-lit bathroom with blue water and deep red blood all over, Gianna lays with her hands outstretched. It is a powerful scene before this, but with this final image of the bloody but silent carnage left by a visit from John Wick, it really cements itself as a highlight of the film.

Unfortunately, too much of the film is obsessed with reminiscing on the original. While the references to the original are quite limited, the film nonetheless keeps the same plot idea: people are stupid to mess with John Wick. Wherever he goes, his name is met with horror and fear. It is obvious why this is the case, but this was the same situation in the original. Though it is nice to stay consistent to some degree, it would be nice to see the franchise mix it up instead of constantly reminding us he is deadly. In the first film, we needed to know this information. Now, however, it feels purely masturbatory with regard to how great of an assassin Wick is. Going through a plot where literally every person in the world becomes an assassin or knows who Wick is without being told, it does become rather implausible for one, but also feels a bit like a satire.

The action sequel I wanted. John Wick 2 is packed with stunning action sequences, great performances, and a badass story. The minor issues I have with the movie don't affect the entertainment value of this film.

The film is not a cartoon so some realism should be there. The fighting scenes, and there is not much else, are ridiculous. But it appears many people like it.

For someone who looked like "duh..." through most his career. He's actually solid in the John Wick movies. I mean, it requires some acting to be so damn bad ass. Sure Neo was a cool character but Keanu still looked lost through that whole trilogy. Here, he owns this character and every single action scene "and there's a lot....a whole lot." While there's plenty of colorful characters he goes up against. The hot deaf girl stands out the most though. I love how she and John communicate back and forth with sign language, each with their own death threats. Even John's dog is a great character. The film is so stylish, draggy and action packed that you might grow a little bored. Especially bored with so many gun shots to the head. If you're an action junkie though, John Wick 2 is heroine. We find out that the Continental is more than just a chain of international safe haven hotels but the controllers and distributors of the gold currency system. That when someone receives a marker that they have promised in their blood a hit or I am assuming a huge favor. We finally see the process of having a contract created on a hit and how the message is sent out to all the assassins. It is definitely is more colorful and professional than the film Wanted where hits were crafted in coded cloth from unknown gods. The music in John Wick has been well thought out to deliver power, aggression and action. There was a good balance between knife combat, gun fighting and mix martial arts. The wrestling in the film gave the fight scenes a real rawness and took away the choreograph look. The only thing I would fault is the clarity behind who our villains are. We seem to be given a succession of high leaders from an Italian bloodline but it is unclear of what they actually do and control. I guess the questions have been left to be answered in the next chapter. All I know is I will be there to watch it. Expand

Violence for violence's sake. This movie was tiresome within 30 minutes. Why are we supposed to care whether Wick wins or dies? The movie has no soul. It's just stylized violence for teenagers looking for Hollywood's most kickass badass.

Keanu Reeves played his part well, really showing the age in the character and giving off a sense of realism, that John Wick isn't some superhuman man that never ages and whose instincts never slow. First of all, I am not a big action movie fan, so please don't take my comment to seriously.
I did not enjoy the car chasing scenes, not sure why did the biker got hit in the first place and what was stolen. And as we all know the bullet-proof John Wick.
However, I do enjoy the movie overall, it gave us a glimpse of the structure of that underworld which is nice. Despite I am not an action movie fan, I do looking forward to the next movie to see how the story progress.
I think I might have an eye problem, coz I think the CGI (or graphics in general) looks a bit strange, and I kept thinking to myself whether the things are real (e.g. the dog). I am surprised no one discuss it so it is quite likely I have an eye problem.

Genial. Un 9.

Beyond that, this is highly predictable, to the point where even he prepares for betrayal. But where this all breaks down, is the gun-fu. Even John Wick cannot aim and fire at an enemy before they have come around the corner, which he does countless times. I guess the other reviewers really need some combat training before claiming this is fried gold (8-10/10). What is even more damning is when the dumb person (cannot speak) gives hand signals to thugs that are forward of her position and not looking at her, though somehow telepathically know what she ordered, or the fact that at 1h30min infintiy clips become reality. Which gets even more silly when she start gunting at the 1H43 mintue mark, which belies that she is not incapable of speech after all (incomptent directing). Adding to the horror, is that no handgun in reality has 23 rounds+. In all, this was poorly directed and rediculously formulaic, with an aim to being more Michael Bay (aka mindless) than the first movie. Final review without any studio paying adversiting compensation to raise this beyond what it should be, a mediocre 5/10. By the end of the movie, this rediculous scipt suggests there are paid assasins every 100m, all ready to kill anyone for a few dollars. Laughable, but predictably Lionsgate. Expand

In regards to action, this film is utterly fantastic, the execution of stunts, the fluent choreography and fresh depiction of violence, it makes for an excellent follow-up to its predecessor.

'John Wick: Chapter 2' continues from where the first one left off, and turns its action all the way to eleven. Personally I still prefer the original due to its indie feel, this one feels like Hollywood have tried to take a slice, but it is still nonetheless a defining moment in the action genre. The smart suits, the stunning architecture, the eccentric personas and the camera that never shies away, however I find Riccardo Scamarcio's character less of an "evil" character in comparison to Alfie Allen in the first one, thus not caring too much of his outcome, but it's just so hard to diminish how good of a film this is.

If this and the first film are anything to go by, John Wick will gain his status as an iconic cinema character and one day stand upon other action greats like John McClane and James Bond, here's hoping to a successful future for the franchise. This isn't mindless action, this is smart, well-executed action with a purpose. Action like no other.

Maybe I am too old (40+) for this kind of film, but is there really an audience for wall to wall mano-da-mano fist fights, people being run over by cars and gun-fetishism? Insanely boring and mind-numbing.

Because, with Wickmasters Chad Stahelski and Derek Kolstad still at the creative helm of this brilliantly choreographed ship, you're in more than just safe hands. Sure, the impetus for this sequel is nowhere near as raw and primal as the inciting incident from its predecessor, but thanks to some next-level set pieces, and a heap load of development added to the heightened world we all fell in love with in 2014, we are given more than enough to latch on to and fawn over here. It's the kind of "Dark-Knight/Empire-Strikes-Back-esque" second installment that makes you wish the powers-that-be had just shot the third part alongside of it - so you wouldn't have to wait that long to find out what happens next. Never Stab The Devil In The Back

"Matrix", The Wachowskis' pinnacle work and reforming of the 1990s action films, announced sinuously some of the most superb and appealing minds in the nonstop action movies. Two of Neo's stunt doubles, the emblematic main lead played by Reeves, have rebuilt and invigorated a genre which gradually verges on the inadmissible to entertain; they, like The Wachowski, burst in the middle of bullets and blood with touches of black humor, martial arts and choreographed nearly sublime aesthetics in their directional debut "John Wick".Unthinkable was its commercial and critical splendor, which cooperated driving the evident continuation of Boogeyman's story in order to dilate and delve into Hotel Continental's registered assassin universe.Like any sequel, it runs the risk of withering that eccentric formula which dazzled in the first installment, on the contrary, and miraculously—keeping in mind unpleasant second parts about films of today,— this is much more violent, much darker, much more brutal and a lot better made than the original. Jonathan is back with another dog, other gadgets, and another reason to kill.

Wick hasn't concluded the singular self-compensation in the name of his adorable pet, just one item needs to be crossed out in the list of the refrigerator: his car. After "recovering" his costly auto, he determines to absolve himself of that Russian mafia and that hotel which tore his life down once and for all, nevertheless, his first free nap is hampered by recent ghosts. Now, Jonathan must go back to his life as a gun killer to finalize a pact that involuntarily reopened. The problem is that he'll have to do it with an auction for 7 million dollars to his back, meaning each assassin in Rome or New York is behind his steps. A cocktail of bullets, blood, neat beauty and action to its maximum expression.

A cult movie wasn't adequately entertained and conscientiously filmed like this one for a long period, which converts it into the best action feature film in recent months. Its director understands how to build up the frantic scenes with readable shots, static angles, sketched fights and a gleaming visual status quo accompanied by myriad elements convening a great cinematic banquet, where morbidity, injuries, and amorality don't distort behind the PG-13 rating. He knows the legacy which is in his hands, his mission is to keep it up and as one would expect of any sequel, developing better and bigger things, for example: one substitute pet or a new classic scene.

Reeves, a loathed and idolized actor in equal measure returns strengthened to the role which gave back him contemporary glory: John Wick. This time, the man exhibits solid convictions which justify his vindictive ire; actions are savage and remorseless, nonetheless, aftermath are serious enough to continue stirring up his wrath which has held since his spouse's death. Wick may be a killing machine, but in his emotional level stands out his self- awareness. Rome comes with special guests, who supply empathic and outstanding performances, from a fatal mute lady, portrayed by an always excellent Ruby Rose, to malicious and scowling Santino D'Antonio (Riccardo Scamarcio), from a violent Cassian (Common) to old well-known Laurence Fishburne, into what seems a brief cameo.

Artistic determinations are equal and even more unusual than narrative ones, in a neo-noir story where the politically incorrect decisions are the first happening, emphasizing in capital letters the unexpected twist (shot) inside the Hotel. It's difficult to see such levels of elegance and repugnance combined in an action movie. Among so many compliments and wise choices, the most remarkable is its amazing mise-en-scène, photography, and staging; they're sublime and imposing, stunning and superb, images exceeding their expression limits together with a soundtrack that points to the audience's heart; a blood ceremony grotesque sensibly as to admire the beauty of human nature. From neon colors to Romanesque streets, from car chases in the rain to shootings in underground caves with heavy music, from nudes to stab-wounds; night or day, city or plain, the filmmakers employed all their tools.

"John Wick: Chapter 2" is the correct sequel for first installment's eccentricities; the sequences and twist plot don't let down, by the contrary, duplicate the effective results with daring performances, exquisite scenarios and a cinematography that will leave real film lovers astounded. Ironically, the smallest details are which work against it, however, are harmless but visible. Wick ends with a beautiful open ending, which will culminate in a third and possibly last part of the life of a man seeking redemption, revenge, and peace. A cocktail of radiant narrative, artistic and technical decisions. "Wick" is the film that any twenty-first-century action motion picture would wish to be. An aggressive, hectic and subversive experience.

The action and gunfights have more variety and punch, the assassin's society is given more depth, and the plot is more mature. It's also great to see a glimpse of people who can challenge John Wick in terms of skill. One of the shortfall of John Wick 2 is the main antagonist who arguably is less interesting than the one in the original film. Also here John Wick is less believable compared to the original. Hopefully in the sequel the creators would take out several layers of Wick's plot armor and let him do his job using his own wit and skill. Expand

John Wick, is in no way, an amazing, thought-out, well-told narrative with a good plot. But it does have amazing action sequences and realistic shooting (for the most part).

Acting: Don't walk into the theater expecting amazing Oscar-worthy performances, or even great performances. Keanu Reeves is not a good actor, but he gets away with it in this movie. He doesn't really say much, which is probably a good thing, and his line deliveries are usually just...off. But it does add to the feeling of him being an every-day average Joe who got caught up in a mess. Laurence Fishburne doesn't really do anything; his scenes in the trailer were basically his only scenes in the whole movie. Common was also pretty good in his scenes.

Plot: Let's face it: there is not really a plot. Any hint of a plot is just a pretty basic story-line. However it gets an excuse by making up for it with amazing, well-shot action. I think it could've been at least 20 minutes shorter, those 20 minutes being scenes that barely add to the little plot there is, but aren't too necessary. The first John Wick also had a basic plot, but still felt original and new nonetheless. This one is really nothing new, but still has great action.

Script: I've seen plenty of people saying the script is terrible, and it sort of is. The movie doesn't rely on the script and works fine without it. I just sat back and enjoyed the action, which was great, so I didn't look too hard into it or criticize it too much when watching; instead I just enjoyed.

Action: The attention to detail in this movie is astounding. Of course, the enemies still can't hit him from 5 feet away, but it makes up for that by having him actually run out of ammo and have to reload realistically among other things. The gunshots actually sound like real guns. They crackle and pop and ricochet and don't sound like paintball guns. The fight scenes don't rely on quick cuts and multiple angles; most cuts go on a long time before switching angles during fight scenes. You can actually somewhat see what is going on during the fight scenes. There's not as much shaky cam and quick cutting, so you can see what's what. This movie is also significantly more violent than the first. A larger budget equaled a lot more blood squibbs and headshots.

Overall, John Wick is an enjoyable, action-packed flick with a forgettable plot that is excused by the pure amazingness of its action sequences.

"You don't f**k with the devil then act surprised when he turns up."

John Wick: Chapter 2 is one of best and most exciting action movie I've seen in awhile. It accomplished everything it needed to do and much more. I mean, any action movie that starts with a Buster Keaton homage is always a sign of something great. A squeal that's bigger, more violent, and plenty more head shots.

Not as emotionally engaging as the first movie and it doesn't need to. In all honestly, I liked this more than it's predecessor. It expands the universe of assassins and making tension a lot higher for John. While it dose come off a bit ridiculous, but it's self aware of what it is and it's not trying to be very serious.

This movie is a prime example of how action should be done. Outstanding gunfights and every action sequences is filmed with delicate care, making every shot and kick almost into a rhyme. Nothing shaky or quick cutting. Just the right balance and mixture that delivers a thrilling ride.

Can I just say that Keanu Reeves is a nature treasure. Seriously, this guy is on is way of being the greatest action star of are time. He is John Wick and no one can top that. A legend in the assassin world. Just by uttering his name can send chills down hitman backs. But he isn't all invincible, as he dose get beaten up pretty badly in this movie. Blood, sweat, and struggling for breath. You get the feeling that this could be his last mission, but it's the thing deep inside of him that drives him forward. It makes him an interesting and compelling action movie character.

The villains have something quite unique about them. At first I thought Ruby Rose was going to give John Wick a true fight, but that was not the case. Instead she was mysterious. Riccardo Scamarcio crossing John Wick life and him later regretting it, making everything worse. They not the best or the most in depth bad guys, but it dose separates them from being boring villains.

That's what I like about John Wick Chapter 2. It's not just a dumb action movie like The Fast & Furious series. There's never a scene where John Wick goes through three buildings with his car and jumps out just in time. I'm not saying this movie is realistic or anything, but it's grounded enough for you to care of whats going on.

Overall rating: I can be very picky when it comes to action, but this surpass my exceptions. I enjoyed it for what it was and I will be looking forward to Chapter 3.

Oh and that pencil scene was freaking amazing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I watched today john wick: chapter 2 and I was very surprised with the quality of the movie, john wick chapter: 2 is well superior to the 1 movie (which is also a great movie) I was high expectations for the movie and I'm very happy Because my expectation was exceeded.

The characters in the movie are much better built than in the 1 movie, people have a different name from the 1st movie in which you just remember the name of Viktor, Iosef and Perkins.

The scene that John kills 02 guys with the **** pencil is to explode the head (literally) and the fact that the film consists of several parts with different focuses shows that the story was very well built in relation to the first.

The plot starts with something that john wick feels obligated to do (pact) and in the end surprisingly he says **** to the rules and start to be a personal shock to me as he would die.

When I think the movie could not have a good plot for the supposed john wick: chapter 3 I see I'm wrong, the 02 movie leaves a lot much lighter than the 1 for the 2 movie, and that leaves me with a Absurd hype for the 3 movie.

Remember that's is my opinion :)

The ending sets up another sequel and I look forward to it. They are both dam good action films that I thoroughly enjoyed and this one is no exception. The plot is really good, the fight scenes are expertly shot and the performances are very good as well. The dialogue can be hokey at times and there are a few plot holes to kind of fill in but they are nothing that break the film as a whole. Honestly, this could already be going into my ‘Best films of 2017” list. On a lot of levels I enjoyed it more than the previous film but on other levels I think the first film did certain aspects of it better. Honestly, I think its best to take the two as a whole, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t like this film as an individual. Dam no, this was fantastic. The ending indicates there is going to be a sequel and IMDB and Keanu Reeves are already speculating there will be and I really hope there is because I think they are primed to do it and this could be an excellent film series that I would want to come back to. It felt fresh and revealed its world with smart, simple choices. Going into John Wick: Chapter 2, I was curious about how it would continue the story. I didn't have to think about that for very long.

Chapter 2 opens at 100mph of amazing action and keeps you interested from the first scene and on. More of the mechanics of this fantastic hitman global network are revealed and developed without hesitation – trusting in the viewer to follow along. The movie is rewarded for that choice, as the story is able to proceed without slowing down. The movie is violent, yes. Cinematically so. But the brutal nature of the carnage here is balanced by many moments of refreshing humor.

I think Chapter 2 is just as good as the original, with the first movie's origin story just barely setting its status apart as a "modern classic" for now – though I would bet that ultimately, these movies will be viewed best as one entity, similar to the way the Kill Bill movies merge to become one massive epic. John Wick might just surpass that.

It has an awesome soundtrack and the choreography is beautiful to watch, especially the opening car scene. This movie doesn't give you an eyesore like a Michael Bay or John Woo movie would with tons of camera angles. Keanu does a great job of showing us what a retired assassin is still capable of doing and his gunkata skills never get old. It has a very simple story line so don't expect any major plot twists. More of the John Wick assassin world is explored and new people and locations are shown too. Only reason i'm not giving this a 10 rating is because i was expecting a big finale but instead we got a short and powerful ending which leaves enough room for a 3rd movie. Will definitely be buying this on Bluray. Expand

John Wick: Chapter 2 picks basically right up after the first movie. I came in thinking this would be a crudy sequel just like most sequels now adays. However I couldn't have been so wrong. It topped the original in every single way.

John Wick in every way, cast aside, should have failed but it didn't. The same can be said for Chapter Two. Put anyone else besides from Keanu Reeves into the spotlight with this script and the film should have flopped but my god that man is a legend.
The best way I can describe the amped up on ever level sequel is James Bond meets Jason Bourne. Everyone is so suave and chilled in the amazingly deep Continental hideouts but as soon as guns are a blazing blood is spilled big time. John Wick has aimbot enabled throughout this glorious badass film and it's the most fun I've had with this genre since a Casino Royale. I will definitely be seeing this as many times as I can on the big screen because John Wick Chapter Two is a masterpiece that can only be believed if you see it yourself!

Keanu Reeves is fun to watch once again as the titular character. The action rarely lets up throughout and the choreographed stunts and fight sequences are all undeniably frenetic yet insane and quite a bit of fun at the same time, just as with the first film. Overall, you'll more than likely get a kick out of this if you enjoyed the first film, as there's plenty more fun to be had with this surprisingly expectation-meeting sequel! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Leaves more to desire. Starts with a crazy chase and ends up like Assasin's creed 1. A lot of similar action scenes make it boring. For like first two times it's cool but then it goes like "Reeves shoots, reeves reloads, reeves punches, reeves uses sambo technic -> first step". Feels unrealistic at all sometimes. I thought movie would have an actual ending to the series without anything else but it ended up controversely opposite. A lot of useless dialogues we don't actually need to hear. A little humor scenes which actually don't suit the movie. And then all those "AGENT SMITHS REFERENCES" breache in and make it just funny and silly. I don't like those parts a lot. Keanu looks like he does need to get retired or smth. Now to the pros. Good angles, good camera work, it's actually nearly perfect except for mirror room scene. Keanu seems to push it to the limit. This movie is OK but it's not something like OH HELL YEAH. It's become more stupid-friendly. Leaves much more to desire. Expand

The drumbeat thought in our heads was something akin to: "Geez, how many months of choreography did Reeves have to do for this?" It's a crazy amount of fighting. And presumably that's why you're going to see a film like this.

The one thing we generally wish movies like this did more of, is to integrate a bit more technique from real operators. You're obviously never going to get realism, but some of the choices just take you out of the movie. That said, for fans of the stylized set design and fighting, you'll have a fun time.

The 2nd iteration unfortunately cut back on the writing and plot budget and went full bore on the action which is ok if you’re into Michael Bay movies. The action scenes have some great execution - Keanu Reeves is very technical and is very good at mixing shooting with mixed martial arts - however the believability of the sequences is almost zero. One guy doesn’t go in guns blazing and take out all the bad guys - just doesn’t happen that way. Kinda reminds me of a bad video game where all the AI are dumbed down and just run in front of bullets. To add to the ridiculousness of the action scenes - the number of ordinary citizens who are hitmen starts to increase and the story stars to suggest that 100’s of NY citizens are secretly killers for hire. The story stoops to a new low by the time the movie wraps up. Its unfortunate - for a movie that could’ve picked up where the Professional (Leon) left off - JW2 ends up stumbling and falling on its face by the end of its second act. Expand

I wasn't too fond of the huge expansion of the hitman underworld. What I liked about the first one was the hitman underworld felt like a small population were involved as assassins. Its cool that it's international but having a huge percentage of hitman in New York was pretty ridiculous which is my little nit pick. The second one lacked the emotional connection from the original since John Wick had a personal motivation to do what he had to get done. All in all I had a fun time and I got my money's worth. It was fun hearing the audience's reaction during many of the scenes. In a time where action films are eclipsed by Comic book movies, Star Wars films, and the abrasive Fast series(which should've ended at 7), it's nice to have a small Hollywood production gem with relatively grounded fight scenes, minimal cgi, and awesome stunts; i.e., the John Wick series.
