This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Imho IT suffers from the same disease running amok in modern showbusiness, all professionals being replaced with producers family, people raised in money with no education or real world experience. Closer to scamming than to providing quality entertainment. Most SK novels are commercial and easily screenable, but IT has a more complicated background universe (or multiverse, since it runs on several novels). It wouldve taken some work and/or talent to screen it or explain it. The old miniseries did a top job reworking the creature in those aspects, simplifying IT to a physical arachnoid monster using fears and desires and projecting illusions to draw prey and eat it. In the modern movies they simply don't know how, when, what to do with the concepts, nor at least to make horror movies, not to speak of recreating the IT universe. Yeah 1920 telegraphed to get the jumpscreamers back. Without the context, most scenes lose any sense. Like the whole ending with the 'makebelieve' stuff. We got 2 scenes trying, the whole cavern being it and a 'stream' linking the deadlights to the physical projection. How tf can they release that with half cooked ideas.. And fmaking believe the monster that he's dead... well don't try this at home on real evil kids... SK said it himself, the ending is bad. But hey he sold the old bike for a lot of money. Amazing performance by Bill Skarskard though Expand

The scare sequences are expertly and perfectly done albeit relying on CGI too heavily. The tone is more comedic than the previous chapter so overall I'd say that it wasn't quite as good. Be prepared for a long film though, it's almost as long as both parts of the 1990 original. The story can't sustain the length as it does stick to repeating the formula of showing each of the group their worst nightmare then they talk about stopping Pennywise and then back to their worst nightmare, again and again. Thankfully their worst nightmares are scary and perfectly executed. Not sure I get what Pennywise was doing and the final resolution was a bit weak and simplistic. Overall very enjoyable, excellent production. Expand

A typical sequel, but all the main characters are adults now. And the cast was not bad, of course James McAvoy and Jessica Chastain stand out against their background. But the plot of the second part is delusional, almost unrelated structurally. No movie, it's just gluing a lot of scenes. Actors are clearly trying, but with such a scenario nothing good will work anyway. Surprisingly, the first part of 2017 without a star cast looks much better. Expand

Right from the start, I have to mention CGI, which is really terrible in some scenes. As for the story, it wasn't downright bad, but not quite good. The characters are no longer children and they are adults, and this is, in my opinion, the main minus of the film, because not only did I get lost, who is who, but most importantly, some of the magic that the previous part offered us has disappeared. If I should praise anything, then flashbacks, where the main characters are still children. If the whole movie looked like that, maybe it would be much better. Unfortunately, this is not the case and for me it is only an above-average horror. Expand

So, I saw the movie, and I find it's good. IT Chapter Two is a great finale to the novel, and it is the ultimate conclusion of the movie series, which adapts the second part of the novel, and the movie is still faithful to the novel, though less than the original. The adult actors give off amazing performances as the older Losers' Club, a particular highlight being Bill Hader, who is a lot of hilarious and even quotable lines. The adult actors were improved from the 1990 one.

It still has very creepy moments, very creepy, and it has jumpscares too, and it's more darker like the first movie.

Bill Skarsgård also still did a great job as Pennywise the Dancing Clown, and he is at his absolute best, with him being stronger, evil, and powerful than ever.

The set and creature designs are some of the best, and maybe better than the original, since it gives off a ton of nostalgia. Just like Avengers: Endgame, the conclusion is satisfying, albeit with some bittersweet tinges!

The soundtrack is still more scarier, and suspenseful.

And the final battle is so epic, although it may not too scary, but the final battle with Pennywise the Spider Clown! :D

During the final battle, it has "You lied and I died" scene, and even the three door scene.

It's very scary, and it's amazing, and it has more touching moments.

But there some thing that are not too scary, the movie may be more of a comedy than being too much a horror movie, kind of like an Indian horror film.

The movie does however feel too long, with a runtime is 169 minutes. Yes, 169 minutes in the entire movie, although you can edit the movie and you could cut any unnecessary scenes that are not too interesting, or didn't fit the second chapter at all, so It look like an awesome conclusion, but it alright anyway. But overall, IT: Chapter Two is a very satisfying conclusion to the remake It film, and it's amazing, if not better, or anything good from the first movie.

8.3/10

Some parts are sometimes leading you to confusion where you sit clueless to what´s going on such as the ending to a small degree. Despite being almost 3 hours long it was one hell of an emotional rollercoaster ride, from the first appearance of Pennywise to the end of the movie. The horror factor was much higher than the first movie despite there being too many jumpscares to the point where you win $10 because you bet that the next cut will be a monster that pops up. Other than that, the horror otherwise is much more improved with different techniques, from psychological to straight out hell. Expand

The movie retained the somewhat even amount of horror, suspense and comedy that the first movie had, which I appreciated. Something else they did extremely well was casting the exact correct adults to play their respective roles: The adult versions of The Loser’s Club look appropriate to their child counterparts. The adults also do an excellent job portraying their characters like adult versions of their child counterparts. The best performance of the film HAS to go to Bill Hader though, he was so funny! I do however, feel like there were some issues with the film.

IT... WAS...... LLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOONNNNNNG! The middle of the movie kind of felt like a huge drag to me, mainly because it was so predictable and it felt like it was just going off some sort of check list.

Also, there was SO MUCH CGI!!! The CGI was especially noticeable with the flashbacks to The Losers Club: They had to use CGI to make them look younger since the child actors aged a bit since the first movie and it's REALLY noticeable with some of the kids (especially Richie).

They also lose a **** ton of points for having Mortal Kombat in the arcade! They were kids in 1989, and Mortal Kombat came out in 1992… C’mOn, GeT wItH tHe PrOgRaM!!!

All gripes aside, this movie comes out to be a win for me. They may not have used a certain entity from the book to help defeat Pennywise, but the movie would probably have to be a trilogy if they included said entity. There are small rumors floating around that they MIGHT do a prequel about Pennywise’s history on earth… Which I would totally watch!

At least one hour too long and one of the most cardinal of sins considering the genre, IT is boring. If you have seen the trailer you have seen the most interesting stuff.

The only messed up stuff which made me uncomfortable is the hate crime at the beginning.

What is appealing to IT is the strange material. I remember reading the book chapter when Bev meets IT in her old home and it was freaking disturbing (it involves IT saying he would like to eat Bevy's private parts), considering this is an R rated movie they should have put this is in to at least have something memorable. This is by far the most expensive horror movie ever made but it all falls flat. The first chapter was not great but atleast enjoyable and has at least some content that is interesting to watch. The ending is just straight up cringe. There are other really dumb scenes, which are intented to be funny I guess? Even though the book is a strange and often tedious affair I think they could have gone in more creative directions.

There are some beautiful set pieces, practical effects, and imagery...but there's also Bill Hader (who | normally love) cracking unintentionally hacky jokes and giving like 40% to his dramatic scenes. There is an epic story being told...but there's also the same three horror scare patterns repeated for the whole long runtime. There's themes of childhood trauma catching up with you despite repression...but there's also an incredible amount of reused footage from the first film in the form of unnecessary flashbacks.

I wish this was an 8 episode miniseries. It would actually be digestible in that form and have the potential to be properly fleshed out. 2h50m is WAY too long for a popcorn horror movie like this. There's so many good pieces here. Way more than are required to solve this puzzle. Because of that, you get some pieces from other puzzles jammed in where other pieces should be. And the film suffers for that.

I wished I could have a "IT" horror movie, but I only got a "IT" funny movie. I wanted to be scared, to go back home and feel frightened, but I only felt disappointed. The best part is in the development of the relationship between characters, but this should not be the best thing in a horror movie!

Two big "whys", among the others:

Why did Eddie react in that funny way when stabbed in the mouth? I mean, it's not a Ben Stiller movie, it's IT!

Why do we need humor in every scene, even in the most intense ones? Someone wrote it's the "Marvel Syndrome" and I agree: this was meant to be a horror movie based on an amazing novel!

By the way, in this movie not even jump scares managed to scare me...

Also, the Losers killed Pennywise with words? Seriously, stop. You are violating cringe law. At least it was not as bad as that damn Emoji Movie, ew. As bad as it was, there are some good things I enjoyed. The movie was pretty funny, there were some scenes I laughed at. EX: When the losers were cussing at Pennywise, Riche, Pennywise made me crack up at times just by how stupid he was, and etc. Overall, a very bad movie that DID have a few okay moments, but that was from the cringe being so bad it was funny. The writing and story were outstanding and really emotionally touching and heartbreaking. The acting was phenomenal especially from Bill Skarsgård, Bill Hader, James McAvoy, James Ransone, Jessica Chastain, Jay Ryan, Joan Gregson, Finn Wolfhard, Jack Dylan Grazer, Sophie Lillis, Teach Grant, Isaiah Mustafa, Jeremy Ray Taylor, and Jaeden Martell. The visual effects were excellent, creepy, and scary. The makeup effects were stupendous on Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise. The costumes were superb especially on Bill Skarsgård. The hairstyling was terrific especially on Bill Skarsgård, James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader, Sophie Lillis, Jaeden Martell, Finn Wolfhard, and James Ransone. The musical score was fantastic and super creepy. The only thing I really didn't like was the scene where the to guys are being beaten up because they were gay. Expand

In a movie where the main characters are horrifically bullied the monster is finally defeated by calling it bad names.

It: Chapter Two is a collection of CG horror scenes. After the fourth time a character is chased by something scary, only to escape by just running away, you know the following 20 randomly stitched together "scary" scenes don't matter at all. You just sit there waiting for the characters to pull something out of thin air (in third hour of the film) to kill the monster.

The end.

Will we float down to the theater for IT: Chapter 2?

Welcome back to Derry… I mean welcome back to Stream to Big Screen. This week we have before you a review of Stephen King’s IT, Chapter 2. IT2 is the sequel/second part to It (2017). With a star-studded cast featuring James McAvoy as Bill, Bill Hader as Richie, Jessica Chastain as Bev, and Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise, the movie is not lacking for acting talent to finish up the revamped horror classic. Speaking of revamped, I do recommend watching the original It (1990) and/or reading the best-selling novel (1986). Those of you that take that challenge, please comment and let us know how this version of It compares to those versions. For those of you living under a rock, we’ve included below the trailer to freak you out in preparation for the movie.

IT2 does some things very well. I really enjoyed how the story was told. I didn’t read the novel, but I’m sure it gave the movie crew a ton of material to expand upon and visualize. And boy did they take every liberty with those. Nonetheless, I often found myself glued to the movie and not taking my eyes off of the screen. The writer and director worked well together to really dive deep into the emotions and fears of each character. On top of that, the writing did a great job of keeping the comedy and comedic relief through the movie, just like the original. IT2 stayed true to the original in those facets, which I appreciated, but it found a way to be it’s own as well.

Next, the cast did a really good job channeling their younger selves and matching their adult selves in the original. The main cast that I mentioned above, fit so well. I couldn’t imagine the movie without them (If you’ve seen the movie, comment on a couple actors you think might have been good replacements).

BUT THE GLARING ISSUE WITH THIS MOVIE IS THE LENGTH. I mean the original movie was told in a marathon,3 hours and 7 minutes, but included both child and adults halves. IT2 alone was 2 hours and 44 minutes of only the adult portion of the novel/movie. I understand the producers grabbing at money by splitting the movie but can we think about the consumers/viewers at all. Nearly 3 hours for half of a story is unreal. The director definitely could’ve shortened this movie by 30 to 44 minutes. There seemed to be endless amounts of flashback scenes or hallucinations from the past. While they were all good to watch, I would’ve preferred them to just shorten the movie instead.

The only other issue for me dealt with the scares in the movie. There were a few really good jump scares in the movie. The problem for me is that I felt the movie didn’t give us anything new to be afraid of or fear. On one hand, I could praise the consistency and continuity to Part 1. On the other hand, I would’ve preferred a surprise or more originality. On top of that, I can think of at least 2 scare scenes that elongated the movie unnecessarily. Those could’ve been taken out and no one would’ve missed them AT ALL.

Lastly, it bothered me that the film didn’t dive into Mike’s mental state as a pre-teen like they did the others. They mention his issues in passing but it seemed like each character had a dedicated 10 minute deep dive but he was forgotten. It wasn’t a huge issue for me as it didn’t really occur in the original movie either but with all the liberties that were take, they could’ve done the same for his story.

Long story short, of course this is a movie you should see in the theaters and judging by the first 3 weekend sales (171 million), you already did. The issue is that this movie is way too long for no reason and a lot of the scares lack umph because they are too similar to Part One. Nevertheless, the cast, suspense and the laughs make It: Chapter 2 the perfect matinee movie, if you have free time and a must see Halloween season stream.

The Stream: The movie is definitely about 45 minutes too long.

The Big Screen: The comedy and scares keep you going the whole time.

The Final Bill: This movie is way too long but quite entertaining.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. "It: Chapter Two" continues the story of a group of Derry friends, 27 years later have now grown up. This film was not as wonderfully portrayed as "It: Part One". However, presents a lot of nostalgic moments. The special effects team has overly done the CGI for the 'creepy' creatures that were supposedly meant to haunt you for life. The creatures were more hilarious to watch. As a person who does not usually watch horror films, I found Part 2 to be much more uplifting, happy, and comical. However, Andres Muschietti beautifully captures the relationship of Richie and Eddie. I really liked the aspect of revealing Richie's sexual orientation. It was not too "out there" and it was not expected. It was not extreme, but low key. This idea is much more relatable for people who are going through the same situation. Although, the sequence of the Native Americans(who Mike seeked out for help to get rid of IT) was extremely unnecessary to the plot. Overall, "It: Part Two" is a very bittersweet, nostalgic, and satisfying movie, that will forever warm your hearts. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. IT: Chapter Two is quite frankly a 'meh' movie, hence the 5 rating. This movie does fit well with the original writing of Stephen King, with some artistic choice of course. The casting of the adult Loser's club is fantastic, and the actors are fantastic at portraying adults with a wicked and twisted past. That being said, this is a horror movie, which means the intention is to create fear in the audience. I, as well as the group I attended the showing with, found ourselves laughing more at the movie than being afraid. One scene, in particular, you see old 'Mrs. Kersh' turn into a giant, naked freak of nature that is funny, and not remotely scary.
The real fear factor is supposed to come from jump scares, just like the first movie. However, just like the first movie, these scares are hardly concerning. If the viewer has seen any other movie with jump scares or has played a game with jump scares, they will already be prepared for the timing of the scenes. Ultimately the problem this movie faces is a feeling of unsettlement as opposed to fear. Watching Pennywise open his face like a banana being peeled inside out is interesting and unnerving, but by no means is it scary. Neither is watching Beverly drown in a bathroom stall filling with blood, which in many ways is more comedic than threatening. Perhaps the problem lies in the desensitization of society towards gore, but nonetheless, IT: Chapter Two ignored that problem, leaving a movie lacking in the scare factor it promised. The movie felt so fake to the audience that there was also a lack of immersion, which again takes the fear back another level.
Ultimately, this movie is well done from a casting perspective, as well as strictly from the story perspective. Unfortunately, the fear factor is taken away by a combination of age-old jump scare tactics, desensitization to gore, and a failure to immerse the audience.

The story is told well here and it doesn't rush to get there. On the negative side though, many of the scares feel less effective by being used regularly and 'showing too much' of the effects. This combined with multiple 'quick edits' and 'pans back and forth revealing something there' kinds took me out of the storytelling and felt almost mechanical. The cast are excellent delivering engaging performances. Expand

It Chapter Two has some inappropriately placed jokes and some unecessary long scenes. The overall atmosphere by IT Chapter Two is great but the dialogs and chemistry between the characthers is greater!
The horror moments are gore and/or disgusting most of the time which is a good thing, i guess.
All in all i recommend it for all who read the book and/or liked IT 2017.

I hear they're looking at editing both movies into one with deleted scenes for a Blu Ray release. That will pique my interest again.

It features stuff from your worst nightmares, a scary clown, creepy crawlers, hideous monsters. And yet, it is not the stuff on the surface that scares you most, it is the absolute manifestation of your emotional fears. Crap that you have buried under layer upon layer of mental walls, making it disappear from your mind and thoughts. Until it is uncovered again.

This film embodies this. Takes a shovel and digs its way into your fears. This is what happens when you let a director loose who wants to do the source material justice. Not only for the fans, but because it is such a clear representation of what deep, emotional fear can be like. And when the shovel stops working, it takes a pickaxe. Then a drill. Then dynamite.

Skarsård has been compared to Heath Ledger wearing his role. And they're not wrong, the comparison is spot on. He lives and breathes Pennywise. If not for that brilliant casting, the movie would have falled flat for sure. And it's not only the clown that's been handed to capable hands, the rest of the losers are all one by one perfect in their adult rules. This is beautiful film making in a genre that has gone mostly unnoticed by talent. It's a great movie to end this decade of excellent horror movies.

It's not only scary, it's sweet too. Banding together with your friends to beat the demons of your past, together. It gave me the greatest sense of nostalgia for them, the characters and their lives in Derry.

I loved this movie and it's one of my favourite of the year and one of my favourite King adaptations. I would like some more, please.

IThis movie is way too long and it simply didn't need to be. There was too much of an effort to cram more of the popular kid cast members back into the film rather than developing the new cast members and it created a real disconnect. I honestly didn't care about what these adults were going through, which is the polar opposite of how I felt for the kids in the first film.

And simply put, Some elements of the book still don't translate well to film. Like the fortune cookie scene and pretty much the entire ending. They're simply awful and goofy looking, And a good reason why is because the CG looks terrible and cheap. It's definitely up there with some of the worst I've seen and that's saying something. I also wasn't a fan of how much of a backseat that Pennywise took in this film, It really disappointed me because he should have been the centrepiece.

Overall, We all knew this film would suck, It was just a matter of how much. And my lord, Did this movie suck.

I truly wanted this movie to be good.I loved IT the miniseries, the novel and even the last IT movie. This was unbelievably bad.Stupid and laughable and not scary in the least.Tries to be a comedy too often.Marketed wrong.Bad acting all around.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Movie started off pretty descent but as you continue watching you realise they just try and scare people every 2min with random monsters. Spin offs took way to much time for a 3hour movie. Its supposed to be a scary clown but the clown is involved 10% of the movie where all the spin offs and other random monsters make up the rest of the movie Expand

Such a great movie. Pennywise steals the show again. Much better than the miniseries.

Unlike the first this film sports quite a number of issues that make this a lacklustre viewing experience. I will admit one of the highlights of this film was the acting. Each member of this charismatic cast puts on a stellar performance that saves this film from being an unwatchable experience. When members of the cast are interacting and reacting to absurd situations, thats where the film really shines. But unfortunately when this amazing cast aren't in scenes together the film really drags. It also doesn't help that the film simply is not scary. The film's over reliance on visual effects make every dramatic/scary scene look very unrealistic and hence making almost every single scary scene at times unintentionally hilarious. But the film's main problem which makes it a pain to watch at times is its extremely self indulgent runtime. Clocking in at almost 3 hours long, this film is so painfully slow and filled with so many unnecessary scenes that just pad the runtime for no particular reason. Overall It Chapter 2 is somewhat entertaining at times but just fails to offer you a movie worth your time. Expand

Tried to make the movie into a character story piece. Lacked intensity and suspense. The kid actors did a far better job than the adults.

Expand
