The best horror movie. There was no cliche jokes. Shining film was given a lot of points, but after reading the book I watched was never nice. I like this movie. Acting was good. Thanks..

This film is made in more comedy style either like Chapter 1, but it has a good suspence and few real scare moments. The film for a one times, because it has a final ends and a pleasant atmosphere for light horror

The narrative structure of the new adaptation is flawed. In the original, made-for-TV movie (which I recommend over the more recent films), more backstory is provided early on in the movie, so that the audience knows everything that’s at stake. This makes the action that occurs when the Losers return to Derry seem more epic as a result. It also allows for more character development. The new adaptation crams too much backstory into the second film, so that the movie feels bloated and the impact of the backstories is muted. In fact, much of the backstory is simply left out of the new adaptation, or changed. In addition, while the CGI used in the new adaptation is often cool and exciting, it’s also often downright silly and not believable. In the made-for-TV film, there’s obviously no CGI (it was made in the early 90s); good, old-fashioned special effects are used, making all of the incarnations of Pennywise more believable and less silly. In addition, the made-for-TV movie is effective because it establishes a genuinely creepy tone, making Derry seem like a doomed place that Pennywise will haunt forever. The new adaptation just relies on jump scares, which can be fun, but also get old and fail to establish Derry as a forsaken, haunted place. Overall, the new It films are not bad, but I highly recommend the made-for-TV movie over them; it is a truer adaptation of the Stephen King novel, and does a better job of establishing a creepy, unnerving, ominous tone. I can think in 3 words to describe this movie: predictable jumpscares, bad CGI and too comic. Is a very funny movie you will laugh a lot but it doesn't scare at all.

There is no surprise, It Chapter Two becomes together with the first chapter one of the best horror movies ever. Very good cast, amazing CGI, original and creative jump scares and even if the ending was a little poor, I loved every second of IT!

Logra su objetivo incluyendo además escenas directas del libro de stephen king, intenta jugar más con el terror psicológico de los personajes y consideró que es una buena película para continuar lo que fue la primera parte.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don't actually know what to think about the movie. In the cinema, I actually really enjoyed it, although there are little-to-no scenes that actually have suspense apart from one or two. Now that I'm looking back on it in hindsight, I realise some of the decisions in the film make less sense.

This film is a huge CGI-fest. I'm pretty sure there's more CGI in this film than actual real sets. It is incredibly loud, fast (during scary scenes), and sometimes over-relies on loud noises and jumpscares. The screening I saw was huge, so much so that it looked similar to that of a university lecture, and I noticed about five people left during the film.

I found myself, and the audience, chuckling at one or two jokes. Some of the comedy is genuinely funny in my opinion, but it didn't manage to get too many smiles or laughs from me. But it must've been funny as people were laughing. It does capture, to some extent, the cheesiness of the 90's adaptation, but it is great in making it modern. Some of the things I personally disliked about the movie was the abundance of comedy. While I like the comedy, there's just too much. There's so many scenes that are horrific and in the next scene the characters are laughing and joking about as if nothing happened. The only person who actually acts as a human would throughout the film is Bev, who seems actually traumatised by the sheer horror of a supernatural threat. The rest can be ridiculous sometimes.

Another thing I absolutely despised and found myself laughing at was the ending. The "Eater of Worlds" or whatever It calls itself, this terrifying, child-eating, shape-shifting, supernatural extra-terrestrial gets defeated by being belittled. Yes, literally. They literally say things the equivalent of "You're a poo-pee head!" to It and it turns into some jelly thing. WHAT.

Anyway, yeah. Good at some things and bad at others. I do feel it does a lot right, however because of the comedy and lack of suspense throughout the film, I cannot deny how it takes a lot of its effect away. A shame, I really liked the first It despite its flaws, but I was expecting a lot more than a CGI ****

Not as good as the first movie; it was alright. Perhaps if they would have edited the movie down so it wasn't almost 3 hours long it would have been a better experience. At certain parts of the movie I was quite bored.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This Movie is absolutely fantastic besides Beverly's character being useless during most of IT chapter 2 (IT Chapter 1 she was arguably the best written and most important character maybe besides Richie.) She was my only gripe with this movie whatsoever, the plot twist of Richie being gay made sense for the character and his interactions with Eddie i already figured he had feelings for him at the end. absolutely fantastic film, amazing ending. Poor Eddie but i feel as Richie wouldn't have reached his peak without the death of his first true love. Pennywises death and fight scene was epic but also made sense due to the nature of how the dead lights work and how Mikes explanation made complete sense. Stan's suicide was notable made sense and furthered the plot in my opinion (though he deserved better.)

The Characters felt like themselves from the first just older, they had chemistry altogether just like the first movie, tense, scary, dramatic and boy did i cry.
Great movie Almost Perfect 9.5/10

(Deserves a better rating imo)

Bill Hader and James Ransone really steal the movie with great comedy and pitch-perfect representations of their child counterparts. The rest of the cast is pretty solid as well, although Bill Skarsgard's Pennywise gets noticeably less screen time this around. The movie's central problem comes from its insanely bloated runtime, as the film runs nearly three hours and it sure feels like it. With better direction and a better editor, the film could've been easily around 2 hours. The ending as well feels cheesy and ironic considering a running joke in the film. In addition, much like the first part, the horror is mostly cheap jump scares with a couple of scary visuals. Overall, It: Chapter Two is a film with good comedy and casting, but poor plotting, mediocre horror, and a ridiculously bloated runtime make it a mediocre experience overall. Expand

Also, i enjoyed chapter 1 very much because its a great horror movie while the good horror scenes for chapter 2 were only in the trailers.(mirrors scene) I hope that if a third movie happens, it gets more in depth scenes with Pennywise himself because he makes the movie great.
I still want to see another iconic scene to happen like the one with Georgies death in the first movie.

The movie is very long and lacks a conductive thread to maintain its narrative structure. It is in this new ridiculous chapter, and not to say boring. The director sacrifices fear and a blunt plot for cheap comedy (OUT OF PLACE) and unreal visual effects. Disappointing in many measures, the film also loses the heart it had been building in its first installment and ends up delivering a series of bland and extremely long flashbacks, which destroy the true bonds of friendship built by the Losers. There are no explanations between the time lapses, which dont give the viewer a greater context, resulting in their characters already in adult versions being incredibly empty and flat. It 2 is simply an expensive fiasco that feels so cheap and painful to watch.

I was concerned IT ChapterTwenty-seven years later, Pennywise is back munching on children. The losers club, now all grown up and living very successful lives, they must keep their oath and return to Derry to deal with the terrifying clown. I was concerned IT Chapter Two wouldn’t hold up against Chapter One and unfortunately that proved true. IT Chapter One wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea but I loved it and I felt it was a terrific adaptation of Stephen King’s IT. The bar was high and Chapter Two really doesn’t reach that standard.

There’s a lot I liked about IT Chapter Two but it has a lot of problems. The chemistry between the young losers club wasn’t replicated with the adults and although there’s a lot of humour and banter between the adult cast the result is a mismatch of genres. On the one hand it’s trying so hard to freak you out and frighten you at every turn but there’s so much comedy stuffed in at the same time I’m not sure what it wants me to feel. I ended up laughing way more than I should have. So yes it’s funny and entertaining but scary? Far from it.

The CGI De-Aging of the young losers club was also a little distracting. Yes I know they’ve aged since filming IT Chapter One but a lot of these additional flashback scenes felt like they were desperately trying to cling to the success of Chapter One. We loved the coming of age aspect of the first movie, the genuine relationship between the kids and Chapter Two doesn’t have that element. So what are you left with? Frights and grotesque set pieces. That’s what you’re left with and believe me when I say the frights are endless, it felt like in order to ramp everything up they just added as many frights as possible. This is only made worse by the film’s lengthy running time. Yet despite being 2 hours 49 minutes it still felt rushed. How it managed to feel both rushed and dragged out at the same time I’ll never know. There are a couple of pretty horrifying scenes, but aside from that this film just didn’t feel scary. I don’t have a problem with horrors using jokes or humour to alleviate some of the tension, particularly if it’s coming from a character you’d expect. Richie “Trashmouth” Tozier for example, yet so many of the scenes feel the need for a joke the whole cinema was laughing and you’re left with something that barely feels like a horror movie anymore.

Bill Skarsgård’s spine-chilling performance as Pennywise is just as scary as before, these movies would not have been half as successful if it wasn’t for that casting choice. Skarsgård is without a doubt the best thing about this movie. I am a little disappointed as I loved the first part so much, but IT Chapter Two will still entertain you and well worth the ticket price. Assuming that is you go to a cinema that actually has a certain set of standards and not the usual nonsense that goes on in an Odeon cinema. Leaving the lights on for the first ten minutes of any movie is unacceptable but a horror especially is just plain annoying. You can feel Andy Muschietti has a great respect for the source material but overall it didn’t have the same atmosphere as IT Chapter One. A horror movie with more laughs than scares, recommended for all you Stephen King fans.

Just saw the movie last night and while it wasn't nearly as scary as the first one, it's a lot goofier and I found myself laughing a lot during the Chinese dinner scene and the numerous scenes where characters are finding their artifact. It made sense and was very inclusive to add multiple gay characters as coming out is something many people fear , the only downside to the movie is it feels like a 3 hour long movie and isn't as engaging or as scary as the first one, and it can seem confusing at times, but besides it all it was a fun movie that I wouldn't mind watching again! Comparing to Avengers where i and other friends of mine always sleep watching all of them, i find that NO ONE in our theatre even went to the toilet while it runs. Everyone seems like enjoying it. The humor, the scare (yep jumpscare included), the drama, and Losers Club chemistry were perfect. I enjoyed every minute of It. I'm a fan of the book and didn't mind the changes. The casting was great, again, Pennywise was great, again, and it felt like a natural conclusion to the first.

My only problem with it was the lame way they decided to split up to find their tokens (though necessary to tell the story the writers wanted) when they all know the most important thing to stay safe is to stay together. But that can be explained away as It swaying the Losers into an opportunity for It to try to scare them one by one once again.

It takes place 27 years later, the kids have grown up and split apart as friends. When Pennywise returns, they band back together to defeat him once and for all. The new actors playing the roles of the grown up kids do a fantastic job. Not only do they look similar, they act the part and really feel like a natural grown up version of each kid. There are flashbacks throughout the movie of the kids from the first movie, including new scenes that were really nice to see and help tie together both movies. Each character gets a good amount of focus, the movie takes time to explore each characters backstory from when they were kids to where they ended up as an adult. Pennywise of course is great in the movie as well, along with all the scares. This movie definitely feels more mature than the first (as they are all adults now) but it still has a lot of humour. It is also definitely scarier than the first movie as well. Overall it was great, if you liked the first movie this one lives up to the same quality. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is an absolute mess, there is the potential for it to have been great with some of the special effects and acting being passable or great in places, but the editing destroyed it completely, it either dwells too long on the same thing to the point where there is no suspense or it simply drops plot points without ever showing you their conclusion.

For example the opening scene which people are talking about, There's a gay couple, they get into a fight, punched to the point of near death and chucked in a river, IT reaches for one of them but not the other and .... that's that, the people who were attacked are never mentioned again in the film also the group of murderous teens that killed one of them are never mentioned again and never face reprucussions or anything for their act, they also presumably completely get away with murder (literally) so they are going about Derry being evil after the movie is concluded (?)

The little boy who now lives in Professor X's childhood house... was he killed in the hall of mirrors? was that an illusion made to make the Prof. fearful? his parents never look for him, they never find the body of him, they do not investigate by returning to the childhood house to see was the kid ever really there or was it like the saggy tit monster, just an illusion to give yet another jump scare.

The little girl under the bleachers is the same, she's there, she's killed presumably... nothing happens, also IT doesn't remotely try to scare her before eating her face so I'm guessing her meat tastes like **** to him, dunno why he would have been drooling to eat her at that point in the film, she hasn't been scared and it's shown that IT has eaten since he woke up ... so.... he's drooling because he did it in the first movie and people said it looked cool (?) who knows.

But like I said, this movie's editing kills it, you get scene after scene of the exact same thing just with different characters. Mike Calls person 1, that person is scared and shocked, they stumble about.... okay... Mike calls person 2, that person is scared, they stumble about, Okay... any audience member could now understand he will ca.... MIKE CALLS PERSON 3, THEY ARE SCARED, STUMBLE AROUND... OKAY MOVIE, WE GET IT MIKE IS GONNA... MIKE CALLS PERSON 4, Guess what happens? did you guess A.They are scared, stumble around and nothing else happens or B. They are scared, stumble around and nothing happens or C. They are scared, stumble around then kill themselves because of fear. or D. They are scared stumble around and nothing happens. Ding ding... all of the above happen, scene for scene it's all the exact same except one guy cuts his wrists in a bath, in all honesty by that point in the movie I was thinking he was the lucky one and considered joining him.

But the group get together in Derry, they have a chat, there is a literally laughable scare scene in their meeting meal and then they go their separate ways because they don't wanna fight IT again. Then each one of the characters goes their own way.... meets IT and gets scared each scene goes on for about 10-15 minutes and there is 7 (?) of them back to back, it's a case of Character goes somewhere, IT scares them, Character runs off X7 it is actually torture to sit through, there is no fear of any of the characters getting killed, it's just a boring mess.

As for the ending, the things they spent the last 2 and a half hours collecting do nothing, so they call IT a stupid clown who then turns into a baby and they collectively reach into it's chest and pull out IT's heart... then ... for no reason at all they crush it in front of him, I mean... I'm going to take a wild guess that if you remove the heart from a creature that creature is then dead because it doesn't have a heart, but I guess the crushing of the heart made for a cool visual, if you like to see a pointless scene of desecrating the heart of a dead thing.

This movie was as badly put together as suicide squad it felt insulting and by the end of the movie in my theatre an entire row of people left the cinema with 30 mins to go and one person got up and clapped after it ended, when people were shocked at him clapping he laughed and said "I was clapping because the **** thing ended" and pretty much the whole cinema just burst into laughter, there was laughing during all the scenes with some of the creatures and all of Bill Haders comedy which worked but destroyed this mess even further.

Left laughing at how terrible this was and insulted at how it cost money and time which I'll never get back.

Don't go see this ****

Digging its own hole, the story tries to revisit the same set pieces with a catch that the characters are "new", unfortunately we are not.

It Chapter Two

Muschetti's second and hopefully final swing at this Stephen King's classic novel is one big homework. The only advantage in the director Andy Muschetti's corner is that we love this subject. It was a hot topic and will stay a hot topic. Also not to forget, King is the source here, and for someone who hasn't gone through that heavy, heavy book, the character arcs and the mythology might fascinate the viewers. But if the novel is taken into account then this looks like a shady commercial rip off of something malevolent that is poorly mimicked into a bad joke. If that was the point of applying the CGI make-up then get ready for an entertaining night.

Another thing I'd like to mention is the elaborative nature of the script. It is obsessed on giving time and space to each character resulting it into a long separately sketched horror show that is clearly not worth the scare it wishes to forge; call me old fashioned, but I am one of those who doesn't believe in scaring people with visual effects, nothing gets me like witty practical jumps.

Now, this also brings out the inadequacies of the assembled pieces that never for a second floats. I stand by it, I still haven't found the replacement of Steven Soderberg's smoothness on projecting a multi-starrer not-a-film-but-a-trilogy. The "barbaric" theme pops out every now and then in the film. I mean the grievous behaviour of the film. The cruelty as an excuse for the screams is a good idea. Maybe, even a great one. But it is the irrelevancy in the scene and probably the unfathomable necessity that the makers find to justify the characters' trauma, is largely off putting that puts it in a trial of questioning of (IT)s existence.

Bill Hader having an Oscar win is more believable than everyone whining and crying about Robert Downey Jr. having an Oscar just because “OOH,HE HAD A GREAT ARC IN THE MCU!”....Uhhh,ok?

For the whole time,IT Chapter 2 seemed like a sleeper excitement movie for me,even if that meant I liked Chapter One fine enough. But color me shocked, there was a lot to enjoy about this one. This was a pleasant surprise from start to finish. And a lot of that is devoted to Pennywise, who's basically Thanos in reverse. From the guy who appears just for cool lines and terror to the guy who appears just for plain Terror. Yeah, there’s the same “I CONQUER WORLDS” motivation from *insert villain here*,but hey,it’s still shocking that they find newer ways to mix that up. It's also thanks to him that this movie was a beautiful symphony of Horror segments, with the last fight being fun, albeit thrilling. As the story is easily the weakest part of it,I can't fault it at the same time for the beauty of the technical side. It also makes space for the perfect ensemble in action, from James McAvoy to Jessica Chastain to Bill Hader and Isaiah Mustafa. As well as Bill Skarsgard, who slaps the role of Pennywise. The technical side just sprawls of imagination, from a zombie-looking aunt with multiple mouths throughout her body to a head with crawling spider legs, the imagination never stops here, all accompanied by Benjamin Wallfisch’s now interesting score. And hey, cool cameos from Andy Muschietti and Stephen King (certainly better than the last movie that had random cameos). Bu all of that doesn’t mean IT’s perfect.

Again, the movie is 2h50’,so beware of your patience in the theater, unless you’re shocked by the horror scenes. Sometimes,it feels like a Marvel movie, since there may as well be a moment that makes you feel any emotion that gets instantly interrupted by a joke. Because we’re not overly serious and dark,y’know? And maybe it was better to not add the Deleted Scenes from IT Chapter One,since they’re just there to amp up the runtime. Cute flashbacks, but still pretty unnecessary. And the sequence I was most looking forward to (the Circus Mirror sequence) lasted just as much as a random commercial. A real shame, since the trailers made me super stoked to see how that’d play out. And a slight warning, there are some sequences with flashing lights that may annoy somebody, and the beginning may piss off someone, based on gender. But overall still, what a surprising experience! I was expecting a pleasing finale, but what I had was a big thinkamajig of scares, thrills and Dancing Clowns. I had a blast at IT Chapter Two,and I’m pretty sure you’ll have a blast too. They all have a blast down here...

Lots of audio-amplified CGI jumpscares, but with the exception of Bill Skarsgard as "IT", the various actors are easily interchangeable with the various characters: no one stands out. There's no plausible chemistry and the humor is often awkward and ill-timed. Frankly, it was slow and boring. Not scary, or even creepy-good.

I am amused by the SQUEE! reviews here, rating it a "10" but then saying, "It's not perfect..." Okay, that's coherent (not).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It: Chapter Two is bad.

As a fan of the book and first film, there were a few scenes I enjoyed and though there are one or two performances that hit right, they dropped the ball hard with this one.

Starting with where the bad of this film begins, the writing is awful. It tried and failed to capture the parts of the book and Chapter One that intrigued so many people.

Then, there’s the acting. I expected so much more from such huge names, who I’m an active fan of because of their talent, and I think the biggest disappointment for me was Jessica Chastain’s Beverly. Being the powerhouse of an actress she is, I expected her usual quality of performance but something was lacking. It could have to do with the writing, but I can’t pinpoint it. Bill Hader and James Ransone have satisfactory performances. Isaiah didn’t feel like Mike, though he is a good actor. Jay Ryan was alright, I guess? And while his performance as Bill was good, James McAvoy’s American accent took me out of the story a lot and he, like everyone else, didn’t feel like his character to me. To flip to a positive take though, the two actors I do think had the best performances are Andy Bean and Jaeden Martell. Andy Bean was the only adult Loser who felt like their character and delivered in his portrayal (though James Ransone also came super close) of his younger counterpart despite only being in a few minutes of the movie. He perfectly captured Stan better than any of the other adults did with their characters. And, then, Jaeden Martell gave such a quality performance as young Bill with only so little time, even stealing the screen from James McAvoy for a few moments. You can tell they both understand their characters deeply and it shines through in the end, with their performances being so natural that they seamlessly slip into the roles of their characters without fault.

It was not a scary film, which is where it fails as a horror movie, and the only scary part was the hate crime that opened the film. (Or if you’re like me, you’d agree that the changing of Eddie’s last words was a horribly scary part)

When it comes down to it, it’s a rushed attempt to recreate the magic they had in the book and while making It: Chapter One and it did not deliver. Just reinforcing how wonderful the book and first film are, Chapter Two is not scary, lacks the charm and charisma of the first film, and lacked good writing at its core. Rushed, low quality, and corny can all be used to describe this, as sad as it is to say. With only a few good performances and scenes, It: Chapter Two gets 2/10 for me.

I’m incredibly disappointed in the movie that was put out and down to the core, it starts with how badly it was written and the ripple effects of that couldn’t be outrun. A horrible movie, through and through. Forced jokes, bad writing, and overacting killed this film for me.

While entertaining at surface value, it lacked everything that made you love the original story and Chapter One. And, more importantly, it didn’t feel like It.

There are so many laugh out loud moments in this film and that’s both good and bad. Compared to the 2017 film, Chapter 2 is not great on a technical level but it’s far superior on an entertainment level. Here are the negatives. The film does overstay its welcome. The runtime is 2 hours and 45 minutes long and you definitely start to feel that. There are certain elements that could have been removed from the film and it would have been better. The ending of the film is not that good either. It does a rapid tone shift after the climax which just feels off putting to what we just encountered. The visual effects are pretty bad. There are many different forms of It shown through the film and they all look pretty fake. It gets distracting when the form of It in the climax looks fake which causes that scene to lose any tension that was built up. My final issue is that the film once again decides to rely much more heavily on jump scares than actual concepts. The 2017 film had scary moments that were built up and didn’t come off as jumpscares but every attempt at being scary in this film was a jumpscare. Here are the positives. I feel that this film is an example of perfect casting. Each adult actor mirrors their child counterpart almost perfectly. Their acting is really good also. Bill Skarsgard, James McAvoy, and especially Bill Hader are standouts from the film. Bill Hader steals every scene he is in. He’s incredibly funny and is the best part of this film. The film is incredibly funny. There are many jokes or sequences in the film that are just drop dead hilarious. I feel that some of the funny scenes were intentional while others were not but I will give director Andy Muschietti props for making this film semi self aware. There a bunch of really cool and unique transition shots and the cinematography was pretty good. Overall, It: Chapter 2 may not be as scary as the 2017 film but it’s vastly more entertaining thanks to a likeable cast and hilarious sequences. I give It: Chapter 2 a 7/10. Expand

Part 2 isn't even close to what the first movie captured. You know people can't be believed when they don't like the first movie which made almost 800 MILLION world wide and received a 90 average on rotten tomatoes and meta, and part 2 only opened to under 80 million.... it will not come close to part 1's success because that movie was perfect. So, never trust people when they give out 10's like there's no tomorrow when the movie is no where near a 10. It's just a 1 time watch. Expand

Stephen King films can be difficult to get right. There are some aspects of his writing which are quite hard to put to film, especially when it's a 1,200 page novel that contains a lot of lore that's impossible to condense it to even twoStephen King films can be difficult to get right. There are some aspects of his writing which are quite hard to put to film, especially when it's a 1,200 page novel that contains a lot of lore that's impossible to condense it to even two movies. But he also has some of the greatest horror movie scenarios ranging from the goofiness of killer cars, the terror of being trapped with your most psychotic fan and of course a killer clown from space taking the form of everyone's worst nightmares.

Whilst chapter 1 of It wasn't able to include some of the more bizarre elements of the novel such as the ancient space turtle who created the universe, it instead focused on the battle for survival between a bunch of outcast kids known as the losers and an alien who wants nothing other than terrifying and eating them. Now chapter 2 takes place 27 years after the events of the first movie and the losers have all grown up and almost all have forgotten the horrors of their childhood. But when Pennywise reawakens, they are all called upon to make good of their promise to defeat the evil creature if It ever came back.

Though the film seems less interested in focusing on any plot and instead plays out more like a horror anthology film. Similar to the last film, the losers are separated through most of the films run time with Pennywise cornering them all by turning in to their own personal nightmares. This ranges from anything between being trapped in a hall of mirrors to encountering an old granny, at times delivering on a level of brutality that most films usually shy away from.

But in spite of the films increased budget, the scares aren't as effective this time around. There's nothing as visceral as the bloody bathroom or as frantic as Pennywise's monstrous form reaching out from a projector. Parly this is because of the absence of cinematographer Chung-hon Chung's who played a massive role in developing the nightmarish visuals of the first film. Also at 2 hours 45 minutes, there is a fair amount of repetition of the standard Pennywise formula. There's only so many times it's entertaining to see the same formula of one of the losers ending up alone, Pennywise jump scare and the loser running away unharmed before things start to get boring.

As for the characters themselves, all the new cast are all individually very entertaining. James McAvoy delivers with both emotional intensity. Jessica Chastain carries all of her characters trauma from the first film. And Bill Hader is an absolute treasure who's able to make anything hilarious. However as a group they don't share the same chemistry as their childhood counterparts, mostly because similar to the original TV miniseries the dynamic of young childhood friends is just more fun to watch.

And at the core of the movie once again is Bill Skarsgård's unhinged Pennywise. He's one of the few recent great movie monsters with an unsettling presence whenever he's onscreen, always moving in an unnatural twitchy way.

It's just a shame that Skarsgård is often only limited to being part of brief jumpscares and isn't given enough time, with the film favouring some more generic CGI monsters instead of just giving Skarsgård more time to deliver on some psychological terror. Overall watching It kind of feels like walking through a haunted house at a carnival. You'll get a few good jump scares and you'll have some good laughs, but not offering anything which is likely to resonate in any meaningful way.

The 2017 IT is one of my favorite movies I have seen in the past decade. It's a masterpiece of horror that has so much to say about friendship and overcoming life's challenges, and it's scary! Does the second installment that takes place 27 years in the future deliver on the promise the end of the first movie made?

No. Not quite.

IT: Chapter Two shines when it comes to it's acting performances. Bill Skarsgard remains an iconic Pennywise. The adult Losers are really good as well. James McAvoy and Jessica Chastain are amazing, but the real standout star is Bill Hader. Bill Hader brings so much sass and vulnerability to the adult Richie Tozier, and he is hands down the best part of the movie.

Where does Chapter 2 fall short?

The biggest and most notable problem this sequel has is that it is way too reliant on jumpscares, to the point where they became predictable and boring by the end of the film. On that note, the script is way too long and goes in circles, and this movie's three hour runtime could easily have been cut to an hour and a half. Another glaring problem is that the CGI in this sequel just doesn't look good, and a lot of the scares are so reliant on CGI that they aren't even scary. In fact, in a general aesthetic cinematography sense, the movie itself doesn't look as good as the first one, and it was really disappointing to see.

However, all that being said, I still found myself enjoying IT: Chapter Two. While the first movie is a philosophical portrait of young adulthood, this sequel is a carnival rollercoaster. IT: Chapter Two is tacky, but it's a hell of a ride.

HUYAN!

And I don't know what's wrong me, man, but this is yet another 2019 movie that I'm a lot higher on than everybody else. I think what really pushed me towards loving this a bit more than the first one -- honestly -- was the fact that this is such a big swing. So many recent films have played things close to the vest in terms of stylistics that I honestly gave up hope for seeing something truly "out there." Man, is this movie WEIRD, and in the best way. So many trippy ideas executed in jaw-dropping fashion. So many narrative decisions that rail against the norms of modern storytelling. So much steering into the skid of cheese and oddity. "We tilt up to the stars, pushing in to reveal that they're not stars at all, but holes for puzzle pieces, with our view looking up from the table that an unfinished puzzle rests on." How in the hell did you come up with that shot? How can you not admire the attempt -- nay -- many attempts at making this undoubtedly imperfect narrative pop as a piece of cinematic storytelling? No, it isn't perfect. Some elements don't quite coalesce with the whole. But in a very wabi-sabi sort of way, "It: Chapter Two" absolutely did its job for me. And I'll gladly take home some Bill Hader as Richie Tozier. Put that in a doggie bag for me, thank you very much. Expand

Most likely it only problem I had with the movie is its runtime - its too damn long, with some parts of it could have been cut in the cutting room floor with no problem, but I see what the movie makers were trying to achieve, so its forgivable. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The movie is a total cheese fest. The horror relies far too much on CGI that looks absolutely ridiculous. the entire movie feels like a comedy with joke interludes at almost every 5 minutes to the point where the audience in the theater was laughing at the movie instead of with the movie. Also the film seems to give pennywise a physical body that he can interact with the physical world where as in the book, pennywise is merely a figment of their imagination, and then flicks fear through visions and hallucinations. This is where I get into my homophobic rant...The whole fact that Richie is gay is totally subtext... And it's strange that there is never any mention of it besides pennywise stating he knows his secret. But even pennywise won't say the word gay... Which should be the most terrifying word... It's like the movie didn't want the character to come out, and it's a really **** ending to Richie's story Arch, especially for a 2019 remake. The arcade part came from nowhere... Asking a friend to play games with you for longer is now somehow gay, every straight kid in the 80's would have acted the same... And the gay bashing had nothing, I mean absolutely nothing to do with the plot... It's meant to act as an inciting indecent, but what would have been more relevant is a missing child again 27 years later, then calling the friends back. Expand

I've read the book so I know but I went and seen this with a bunch of people and the question they kept asking when we left is whats is IT?? where did it come from? It would have been nice if they explored IT more. Way to much comedy. Even though the jokes landed and weren't bad they just had way to many of them and I felt it hurt the atmosphere of the movie. Some of the jokes were really badly timed and put in right after I good scare which killed the mood. Overall good movie. I would say the first one was a bit better though but its a worthy sequel to the first. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Whilst it wows with its special effects and dazzling cinematography, it leaves much to be desired with its thin plot and thinner moral tone. The movie seeks to be more inclusive by stating what is possibly the first gay kiss in such a popular franchise. It then proceeds to brutally beat them into the ground and kill one of them. The movie is so scared of presenting a positive image of sexuality the most people leave the cinema not even understanding the point of the violence. In fact, instead of violence for the sake of violence, the movie tries to be profound and relevant but just comes across as demeaning and insensitive. Also, just **** kill them for Christ sake, you are a magical space deity and you can’t kill a bunch of kids/adults. Expand

I understand what some people are saying is wrong with this movie and I too have some problems with the movie, but this movie is still amazing. The casting choice is the best I’ve ever seen, especially with Bill Hader as Richie, Finn Wolfhard in the first movie was the highlight for Chapter One and this time Bill Hader is the highlight for Chapter Two. The final confrontation is amazing, I was not disappointed with it at all, the giant spider from the original TV miniseries as a huge disappointment but the monster for this film is AMAZING. Going to be honest, I am interested to see if there will ever be an IT Chapter Three movie, if there ever will be one, I hope is an origin movie for Pennywise and maybe we can get a scene with the Turtle fighting IT. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It: Chapter 2 was a slightly disappointing follow up to the first one. While it stays true to it's source material, which is one of the good things, is suffers from poor pacing and some minor writing flaws. There is such a thing as too much humor, especially in horror, while the first excelled at placing humor in the right places, but more importantly, keeping it out of places it shouldn't.
This is partly where "IT 2" fails. In my opinion, when you see the villain at his weakest point, you really shouldn't be going for a laugh. The audience in my theater was laughing, which I'm sure want the goal of the director, but the humor that got forced in Durning the climax really affected the third act as a whole.
There were also a few scenes that had absolutely no point if being in the movie other than to pad out the runtime (Which is 2.5 hours). I can distinctly remember one scene that dragged on for at least 3 minutes longer than it had to be.
Unfortunately, the 2nd installment couldn't live up to the first, not only in the things listed above, but also the true horror factor of the movie. It's not really that frightening of a movie, sure there are a few jump scares here and there, but jumpscares add nothing to the scariness if there isn't some true horror behind it.

I found most of the child actors rather annoying, not to mention they made it feel like a wannabe Spielberg movie more often than not, and the scare attempts felt far too forced and in-your-face for my liking. So I proceeded with caution going into this film with my fingers crossed that the adult cast could help bring something new and fun to it, and while the likes of Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Bill Hader, etc. all give great performances and are definitely much more bearable than the kids, unfortunately the same scare tactics are in place in this film as well. Jump scares you can see coming from a mile away are plentiful in this, and I almost always felt like I knew what was going to happen next. Furthermore, that hit or miss de-aging technology was used for the kid actors during many flashback scenes, and it looked quite spotty to me often times. And while it didn't necessarily feel long, it definitely was long, pushing the 3-hour mark. Overall, if you enjoyed the first 'It', there should be plenty to admire about this one, such as the spooky atmosphere and great performances from the cast, but if you're like me and you weren't won over by the first film's style and scare attempts, this one likely won't quite win you over, although I will say that it does wrap things up pretty nicely, and I'm about to state a seemingly unpopular opinion when I say that I did like this one slightly more than the first, but not by much. I liked the first one. Although they were aspects to enjoy here, this wasn't the part two that I wanted.

The film keeps up with the first by having some very good scares and just being visually creative in general. This movie includes a couple of very inspired transition shots near the beginning.

The cast playing the adult members of the Loser's Club all do a good job. I know it's been said to death but SNL & Barry's Bill Hader is the best of them. However, credit should also be given to Insidious' James Ransone. This movie is definitely funnier than it's predecessor and Ransone does a great double act with Hader. They have great chemistry. Of course, Bill Skarsgård still steels the show. His Pennywise continues to be unsettlingly childish and inhuman.

The main problem of this movie is that it relies waaaay too much on flashbacks. A lot of people liked the kid actors in the last film. Given that the adult character portion of the book and the mini-series is generally considered weaker, I'm guessing that the creators got worried about focusing just on the grown ups. So, a good portion of the second act relies on flashbacks to never-before-seen scenes of the kids. I mean there is a lot of this. Except for Hader's RItchie, who never really got a personal journey last time, we're not getting anything new. (Plus, I really didn't need to see anymore of Beverley's creepy father.) The setup for the flashbacks results in way too much of the characters just wandering about without much development. The sequel is way too nostalgic for the first, even the adult segments do too much recycling of previous stuff. I didn't want any of this. When I learned that the adaptation was being split into two movies for each of the age groups, I was prepared and content to watch just the adults, and I didn't get that. There needed to be way more time to focus on the lives of the current characters. (Again the character of Mike Hanlon (Isaiah Mustafa from the Old Spice commercials) doesn't get a lot of screentime.) BIll's wife and Beverly's husband basically have cameos here. Both actually had roles to play in the book. I would have preferred they cut the flashbacks and focused more on those characters.

The movie includes the last one's flaw of going way too-over-the-top with the real world threats. They are fairly cringey. In the past I could rationalize that the human characters are so evil and/or one-dimensional because everyone in Derry is affected by Pennywise's evil. However, here we see someone from outside the town also acting that way. So, now I'm just thinking it's just a lack of subtlety on the creator's case.

There was a point where I was considering giving this a ranking one notch higher, because I did like the good stuff. But in the end, I realized that I remembered the parts that bugged me far more. Be forewarned that this is one of those movies where personal enjoyment will really differ.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved this film. It definitely is a not only a worthy book adaptation, but also a worthy sequel to one of the best horror films to come out of 2017. All of the acting was great and well written. Bill Hader’s performance as Richie was a delight. My only real complaint is that IT’s origins and rivalry with the turtle aren’t elaborated on as much is they should’ve been. One thing that I really appreciated was that the ending wasn’t anticlimactic like that of the 1990 miniseries, which portrays IT’s true form as a big spider. While the form of pennywise that’s seen in chapter 2 does posses spider-like features, it’s not a straightforward giant insect and is not portrayed as being the creature’s real appearance (which we do see as the deadlights, more faithfully to the novel) overall, great film but I just wish IT’s lovecraftian origins were more fleshed out. + Excellent sound design

- Some really awkwardly timed funny moments
- Excruciatingly long run time
- Every single cliché jumpscare moment in horror is present in this film
- Childish underlying theme
- CGI was kind of silly

With its really long run time, crummy CGI and cheap jumpscares, this was just another horror movie that will probably only be of interest to those that are heavily invested in the books or the original TV series. To me, this was more of a psychological thriller that failed to really develop any mature themes/undertones that could keep me interested, with little bits of horror tension mixed in here and there. Add in some really awkwardly-timed comic relief and you have IT Chapter 2. It wasn't all bad though, I quite enjoyed some of the misplaced comical moments, the over-arching storyline and character development tethered by the first film, and the atmosphere that was created during the movie's more tense and creepy moments. The acting was hit or miss for me, but for the most part, both the adult and child actors did a very good job of portraying their characters and distinguishing them from one another.

Overall, it is just another average movie that went on way too long. If you're fully invested in the series as a whole, then by all means, go see this. If you are looking for an end-of-summer/pre-halloween horror flick to pass time, maybe look elsewhere.

Yes, some of them may not look like them physically but they still knocked their parts out of the water. For me there wasn’t a weak actor in this film but the two that stood out the most out to me was Bill Hader, who plays adult Richie, and James Ransone, who plays adult Eddie, because these two characters already were standouts in the first movie and they helped cement that status with what they did with their characters in this film. Bill Skarsgard once again was great as Pennywise and still doesn’t help with mine or anybody's fear of clowns. Now, this film is two-hours and forty-nine-minutes long with credits and two-hours and forty-five-minutes without credits and I’m going, to be honest with you at certain points you start to feel that time. There were some scenes that went on far too long that I think they could have cut down and also certain scenes that could have just been left out entirely. Apparently, this film was originally four-hours long and you can kind of see where they had to cut certain things out. But I will say that there are points in this film where you feel like a fly on the wall in this film and the time just flies by. I think that in this film they used more CGI compared to the first one and honestly it doesn’t look that great. This isn’t a spoiler cause the kid actors have said this in interviews but they had to de-age the kids in this film so they matched what they looked like during the first film and you don’t really notice it. Although I will say that in one scene a character doesn’t sound the same and it’s pretty obvious. But for the rest of the CGI, it just wasn’t the greatest. In the end, this film is a good follow-up to the first film with stellar performances and a great story. Expand

The adult themes in the book are much more nuanced and this does a wonderful job re-connecting us with these characters in their current state. Not even to mention the task of putting a creature that can't even be explained in the book on screen. The cast is fantastically up to the task and the movie only dragged at around the 1-hour mark. Before that and after it flew and I was on the edge of my seat. Truthful to the text, funny, deep, smart, and scary in different ways. Ch. 1 was DEFINITELY a "horror" flick. This one was more of an adventure story with some scares and eerie things mixed in. They are adults, they're harder to scare. Makes sense to me. Great adaption of a great book. Expand
