The scare sequences are expertly and perfectly done albeit relying on CGI too heavily. The tone is more comedic than the previous chapter so overall I'd say that it wasn't quite as good. Be prepared for a long film though, it's almost as long as both parts of the 1990 original. The story can't sustain the length as it does stick to repeating the formula of showing each of the group their worst nightmare then they talk about stopping Pennywise and then back to their worst nightmare, again and again. Thankfully their worst nightmares are scary and perfectly executed. Not sure I get what Pennywise was doing and the final resolution was a bit weak and simplistic. Overall very enjoyable, excellent production. Expand

Honestly, this movie is very underrated. It’s a really fun movie and we get more scenes of Pennywise. Sure, it’s not too scary and it’s more funny, but that doesn’t mean the movie is all bad! I really suggest giving it a shot!

So, I saw the movie, and I find it's good. IT Chapter Two is a great finale to the novel, and it is the ultimate conclusion of the movie series, which adapts the second part of the novel, and the movie is still faithful to the novel, though less than the original. The adult actors give off amazing performances as the older Losers' Club, a particular highlight being Bill Hader, who is a lot of hilarious and even quotable lines. The adult actors were improved from the 1990 one.

It still has very creepy moments, very creepy, and it has jumpscares too, and it's more darker like the first movie.

Bill Skarsgård also still did a great job as Pennywise the Dancing Clown, and he is at his absolute best, with him being stronger, evil, and powerful than ever.

The set and creature designs are some of the best, and maybe better than the original, since it gives off a ton of nostalgia. Just like Avengers: Endgame, the conclusion is satisfying, albeit with some bittersweet tinges!

The soundtrack is still more scarier, and suspenseful.

And the final battle is so epic, although it may not too scary, but the final battle with Pennywise the Spider Clown! :D

During the final battle, it has "You lied and I died" scene, and even the three door scene.

It's very scary, and it's amazing, and it has more touching moments.

But there some thing that are not too scary, the movie may be more of a comedy than being too much a horror movie, kind of like an Indian horror film.

The movie does however feel too long, with a runtime is 169 minutes. Yes, 169 minutes in the entire movie, although you can edit the movie and you could cut any unnecessary scenes that are not too interesting, or didn't fit the second chapter at all, so It look like an awesome conclusion, but it alright anyway. But overall, IT: Chapter Two is a very satisfying conclusion to the remake It film, and it's amazing, if not better, or anything good from the first movie.

Some parts are sometimes leading you to confusion where you sit clueless to what´s going on such as the ending to a small degree. Despite being almost 3 hours long it was one hell of an emotional rollercoaster ride, from the first appearance of Pennywise to the end of the movie. The horror factor was much higher than the first movie despite there being too many jumpscares to the point where you win $10 because you bet that the next cut will be a monster that pops up. Other than that, the horror otherwise is much more improved with different techniques, from psychological to straight out hell. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It Chapter Two is my 2nd favorite horror movie of 2019, one of my favorite horror movies of all time, one of my favorite movies of 2019, and one of my favorite movies of all time. The writing and story were outstanding and really emotionally touching and heartbreaking. The acting was phenomenal especially from Bill Skarsgård, Bill Hader, James McAvoy, James Ransone, Jessica Chastain, Jay Ryan, Joan Gregson, Finn Wolfhard, Jack Dylan Grazer, Sophie Lillis, Teach Grant, Isaiah Mustafa, Jeremy Ray Taylor, and Jaeden Martell. The visual effects were excellent, creepy, and scary. The makeup effects were stupendous on Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise. The costumes were superb especially on Bill Skarsgård. The hairstyling was terrific especially on Bill Skarsgård, James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader, Sophie Lillis, Jaeden Martell, Finn Wolfhard, and James Ransone. The musical score was fantastic and super creepy. The only thing I really didn't like was the scene where the to guys are being beaten up because they were gay. Expand

Will we float down to the theater for IT: Chapter 2?

Welcome back to Derry… I mean welcome back to Stream to Big Screen. This week we have before you a review of Stephen King’s IT, Chapter 2. IT2 is the sequel/second part to It (2017). With a star-studded cast featuring James McAvoy as Bill, Bill Hader as Richie, Jessica Chastain as Bev, and Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise, the movie is not lacking for acting talent to finish up the revamped horror classic. Speaking of revamped, I do recommend watching the original It (1990) and/or reading the best-selling novel (1986). Those of you that take that challenge, please comment and let us know how this version of It compares to those versions. For those of you living under a rock, we’ve included below the trailer to freak you out in preparation for the movie.

IT2 does some things very well. I really enjoyed how the story was told. I didn’t read the novel, but I’m sure it gave the movie crew a ton of material to expand upon and visualize. And boy did they take every liberty with those. Nonetheless, I often found myself glued to the movie and not taking my eyes off of the screen. The writer and director worked well together to really dive deep into the emotions and fears of each character. On top of that, the writing did a great job of keeping the comedy and comedic relief through the movie, just like the original. IT2 stayed true to the original in those facets, which I appreciated, but it found a way to be it’s own as well.

Next, the cast did a really good job channeling their younger selves and matching their adult selves in the original. The main cast that I mentioned above, fit so well. I couldn’t imagine the movie without them (If you’ve seen the movie, comment on a couple actors you think might have been good replacements).

BUT THE GLARING ISSUE WITH THIS MOVIE IS THE LENGTH. I mean the original movie was told in a marathon,3 hours and 7 minutes, but included both child and adults halves. IT2 alone was 2 hours and 44 minutes of only the adult portion of the novel/movie. I understand the producers grabbing at money by splitting the movie but can we think about the consumers/viewers at all. Nearly 3 hours for half of a story is unreal. The director definitely could’ve shortened this movie by 30 to 44 minutes. There seemed to be endless amounts of flashback scenes or hallucinations from the past. While they were all good to watch, I would’ve preferred them to just shorten the movie instead.

The only other issue for me dealt with the scares in the movie. There were a few really good jump scares in the movie. The problem for me is that I felt the movie didn’t give us anything new to be afraid of or fear. On one hand, I could praise the consistency and continuity to Part 1. On the other hand, I would’ve preferred a surprise or more originality. On top of that, I can think of at least 2 scare scenes that elongated the movie unnecessarily. Those could’ve been taken out and no one would’ve missed them AT ALL.

Lastly, it bothered me that the film didn’t dive into Mike’s mental state as a pre-teen like they did the others. They mention his issues in passing but it seemed like each character had a dedicated 10 minute deep dive but he was forgotten. It wasn’t a huge issue for me as it didn’t really occur in the original movie either but with all the liberties that were take, they could’ve done the same for his story.

Long story short, of course this is a movie you should see in the theaters and judging by the first 3 weekend sales (171 million), you already did. The issue is that this movie is way too long for no reason and a lot of the scares lack umph because they are too similar to Part One. Nevertheless, the cast, suspense and the laughs make It: Chapter 2 the perfect matinee movie, if you have free time and a must see Halloween season stream.

The Stream: The movie is definitely about 45 minutes too long.

The Big Screen: The comedy and scares keep you going the whole time.

The Final Bill: This movie is way too long but quite entertaining.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. "It: Chapter Two" continues the story of a group of Derry friends, 27 years later have now grown up. This film was not as wonderfully portrayed as "It: Part One". However, presents a lot of nostalgic moments. The special effects team has overly done the CGI for the 'creepy' creatures that were supposedly meant to haunt you for life. The creatures were more hilarious to watch. As a person who does not usually watch horror films, I found Part 2 to be much more uplifting, happy, and comical. However, Andres Muschietti beautifully captures the relationship of Richie and Eddie. I really liked the aspect of revealing Richie's sexual orientation. It was not too "out there" and it was not expected. It was not extreme, but low key. This idea is much more relatable for people who are going through the same situation. Although, the sequence of the Native Americans(who Mike seeked out for help to get rid of IT) was extremely unnecessary to the plot. Overall, "It: Part Two" is a very bittersweet, nostalgic, and satisfying movie, that will forever warm your hearts. Expand

The story is told well here and it doesn't rush to get there. On the negative side though, many of the scares feel less effective by being used regularly and 'showing too much' of the effects. This combined with multiple 'quick edits' and 'pans back and forth revealing something there' kinds took me out of the storytelling and felt almost mechanical. It Chapter Two has some inappropriately placed jokes and some unecessary long scenes. The overall atmosphere by IT Chapter Two is great but the dialogs and chemistry between the characthers is greater!

It features stuff from your worst nightmares, a scary clown, creepy crawlers, hideous monsters. And yet, it is not the stuff on the surface that scares you most, it is the absolute manifestation of your emotional fears. Crap that you have buried under layer upon layer of mental walls, making it disappear from your mind and thoughts. Until it is uncovered again.

This film embodies this. Takes a shovel and digs its way into your fears. This is what happens when you let a director loose who wants to do the source material justice. Not only for the fans, but because it is such a clear representation of what deep, emotional fear can be like. And when the shovel stops working, it takes a pickaxe. Then a drill. Then dynamite.

Skarsård has been compared to Heath Ledger wearing his role. And they're not wrong, the comparison is spot on. He lives and breathes Pennywise. If not for that brilliant casting, the movie would have falled flat for sure. And it's not only the clown that's been handed to capable hands, the rest of the losers are all one by one perfect in their adult rules. This is beautiful film making in a genre that has gone mostly unnoticed by talent. It's a great movie to end this decade of excellent horror movies.

It's not only scary, it's sweet too. Banding together with your friends to beat the demons of your past, together. It gave me the greatest sense of nostalgia for them, the characters and their lives in Derry.

I loved this movie and it's one of my favourite of the year and one of my favourite King adaptations. I would like some more, please.

Expand

TheyWhile The Conjuring franchise will most likely (and rightfully) go down as James Wan's greatest contribution to the horror scene, filmgoers shouldn't overlook how influential his Insidious movies were to the genre as we know it today. They were big haunted house style attractions that are just as funny as they are scary. You can see countless imitators popping up in theaters regularly trying to capture that same rollercoaster combination of thrills and chills. Andy Muschietti's two IT movies are very much products of that.

The previous film was very much an '80s coming-of-age, comedy-adventure film à la The Goonies or Explorers that just so happened just so happened to have a homicidal clown darkening the tone a bit. Chapter 2 ends up being just as funny, but now that the characters have grown up the content has gotten a fair bit more graphic. Children are murdered in gruesome fashion and Pennywise has tricks that are even more disturbing up his sleeve this time around. Personally, this is one of the reasons I think it's a better movie.

Another one is that it wasn't afraid of taking some of the book's more hard to translate material and put it onscreen. The results are a more fleshed out and faithful adaptation that just so happens to have a lengthy running time some might find exhausting. You can tell they had to leave some stuff on the cutting room floor in order to keep this a strictly two chapter affair (i.e a lack of justification for Bower's return). The only time that really bothered me though was at the very beginning of the movie. I felt they rushed getting the "Loser's Club" back together. We really didn't get to see who they turned into as adults and how they still were clinging to problematic aspects of their past even after all those years. Some nuance was lost as a result. Although it was made up for in the final act where they have to face their demons in a battle of wills in order to lay their collective biggest one to rest for good.

I feel like they did a phenomenal job with the casting. With the exception of maybe Bill, I can actually see the kids from the previous movie growing up to be these people. That's really freaking cool.

Like the book, these movies have a soft spot for the broken, downtrodden, and the outcasts. It's a group of bullied kids that face trouble at school and at home ultimately staring down the evil that infects their town after all. However, even though they represent a variety of features society deems weaknesses, they're ultimately not very diverse with only one girl and minority amongst a group of primarily straight white males. Chapter 2 tries to fix this by changing one members sexuality. It just flat out doesn't work. Aside from the issues already inherent with changing the identity of a previously established character, the decision ends up feeling like an afterthought. Especially in the face of a much more effective portrayal of the kind of violent discrimination homosexuals have experienced that occurs at the very beginning of the film and is actually based on material from the novel. To be brutally honest they did a better job of making this sequel feel more inclusive by giving the black man back his role after passing it off to one of the white characters in the previous outing (yeah, still ticked about that). Glad to see they did Mike right this time around.

The return trip to Pennywise's deranged circus is certainly a long one, but it's filled with unforgettable moments both hilarious and unsettling. I had a blast with its mix of horror, humor, and heart. While there a few things I take issue with I feel like Chapter 2 did just enough to edge out the 2017 flick as the better movie and found it to be a totally satisfying conclusion to a 27 year long battle between a group of kids and a clown.

"Sometimes we are what we wish we could forget."

( 76/100 )

"It Chapter Two" it's an interesting case to analyze. There's more adventure than terror, more thriller than scare, more comedy than drama and, in general, this is gore cinema. And that's fine. Personally, I enjoyed it, especially the third act since there's an evident intention of expanding and exploiting most of all the visual concepts that could exist in the book or at least the ones that Gary Dauberman (the screenwriter) planned for this adaptation. Muschietti, in that aspect, has an incredible vision and shares a visual trip rich in creatures and spooky, bloody, psychotic and spectacular situations that aims to be one of the best hunted houses that cinema has done. Nevertheless, it's not difficult to know why it can be deficient. Before getting to the end, it's necessary to join the characters in their personal walkthrough in which they will be attacked by their retrieved memories. That second act is kind of heavy and fails in graving the public since the characters (even though they have all the potential of representing many minorities) are so bounded to get over situations so personal that any transcendence is nullified. In that aspect, the opportunity windows are closed and the doors that are left open just create some confusion and distance; like the background of Pennywise and its invocation ritual. On the other side, there's a better cast work than independent acting. James McAvoy feels kind of weird, Jessica Chastain is very simple, Bill Header is just enough, the others are just comic or narrative reliefs and Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise carries with a really uncomplete character. But, when everyone is together, it can be felt an interesting and fluid interaction in which visually, all together, contribute with the most important drops of nostalgia in the film.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

I can see this film being divisive but I think that this film watched with IT(2017) in a super-cut will be a better re-watch. These films are very similar and I don't see why its getting that much hate. Horrors haven't been great this year and I think this the best one so far. The cast is great, the story is interesting but might seem ridiculous as it is a book by Stephen King(was high when he wrote it). The CGI was mostly decent but could've better, looked a bit bad during some scenes and Richie is just great with Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise. I would recommend this film but with expectations of this being more comical with scares but much longer as it feels like there's too much and very empty at the same time. It's hard to explain. I will probably re-watch when DVD/Blu-ray comes out or with the super-cut the director wants to make. I would recommend this as I wasn't bored even though it was almost 3hrs long. I though it was very entertaining and a good watch. Expand

He gives a nod to this where he pocks fun at himself through Bill's character who is unable to give a satisfactory ending to his work. There's also a great deal of humour in the book as well, this is how the characters deal with the all the horror they face. Pennywise has absolute control of the town, controls both what children & adults see and don't see, is the cause of many major catastrophe's that occur in the town when it awakens every 27 years, leaving many unsolved murders. I admit it, This movie is not as perfect as the first one but that does not stop it from being a fun and spooky ride. What really drives this movie is its cast of characters who are portrayed perfectly by the actors. I'd really like to put my spotlight on Bill Hader who portrays Richie Toizer (Previously played by the wonderful Finn Wolfhard.) Bill Hader really steals the show and I really think people ignore him as an actor. Not to ignore the other actors though which are all perfect. In this movie Pennywise comes back to torment the town of Derry Maine once again after 27 years. IT Chapter 2 is a long movie (3 Hours) and I think for good reason. The novel is 1000 pages long, It would be hard to fit that in 2 normal length movies. At know time did I really start to feel the length of this movie and I had no issue sitting through it. Let me get this straight though, This movie is spooky... Not scary. It's like walking through a haunted house at a theme park. Just pure fun horror goofiness. Scenes that were supposed to be scary made me laugh most of the time. But that doesn't extend to the clown himself... Pennywise. Bill Skarsgard does a perfect job as Pennywise and I actually felt a sense of dread when he was around. It really shines in one scene involving a room of mirrors which I won't spoil but just know, It is intense! I think the best of this movie is in the final confrontation which can only be described as incredible. The only reason I would put IT Chapter One a little bit above Chapter Two is the fact that IT Chapter One had me scared in almost every scene. The kids make a return in Chapter Two in the form of flashbacks which are excellently done and they all feel like they did in Chapter One. Besides one thing... A few of the kids grew up and they had to digitally de-age them which can be especially noticeable with Richie (Finn Wolfhard) but I stopped noticing this later on. This film has a lotta heart also. The chemistry between the losers is perfect and when something bad happens you feel as if it really happened. I cried twice during this movie but I won't say when. But other than the bad de-ageing I would call this a perfect film start to finish... Please go see it. Expand

The movie is shown in flash backs just like and throughout the book, its an excellent adaptation from a book that is in part very "out there",the ending of the movie has been changed & told in a way that is comprehensible to non-book readers. It's a shame that a large portion of Mike Hanlon's character especially was changed and left out, the racism that he and his parents suffered was very horrific. Despite the complaints of the length of the film, I felt it ended too soon, I wanted to see more character development with most of the characters. But my main complaint is the letter from Stan, they should have left it as the book, that it was fear that drove him to take his life. I'm looking forward to the 6 hours cut that's been promised when it's released on bluray. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It chapter two is not like the first movie but it does pull more out of the original book without the soap opera drama. Please before seeing this movie understand that it will feel different then the first. It’s a good movie if it stood alone and with the first film. But because much like our hero’s people can’t expect when things change. That things aren’t what we expect. They added things for people to understand the pacing of the plot a little better like the tokens. It’s so the characters had achievable small goals to build hope for the bigger one. The casting was absolutely amazing. The movie did something great too it showed that Bev’s character was strong and wonderful all while still being fragile. Everyone is so caught up in the blurred lines they forgot the thing that Stephen King does best. Write beautiful characters. Not to mention cameos. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I felt that this movie was arguably just as good as the first one, just in different ways. It certainly wasn't as scary but I felt just as jumpy. The casting is perfect; Bill Hader steals the show but the rest of the cast kills it. Much better than the child cast. Pennywise is scarier than ever, and the addition of more villains makes the stakes even higher. Feels to me like a cross between Halloween (2018) and Stranger Things. Just as it is creepy, it's also very funny and heartfelt. The ending is fantastic and wraps up many of the loose ends. It really feels like the end of an era, though being only two movies long. I would watch this if you feel like a movie that can scare you, make you laugh and make you cry. It does a great job of all three. Expand

They are beloved as children but they seem to not only have lost their memories of dary but seem to have forgotten they are no longer in middle school. The best parts of the film are the kids doing flashbacks of what seems to have never happened because at the end of the first film they stated they are moving away. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To begin with, I did not like the second chapter of IT, the first movie was more focused on horrifying parts in comparison to the second one. The second one was not good at this parts, because it was showing the same figures from which the characters of the movie were afraid, so since we already had seen those figures, it was not horrifying as in the first movie. This was the main reason that I did not like this movie. Also, I did not like the fact that most of the main characters got killed unlike the first movie. Expand

Plot: 7

It Chapter 2 adapted the second half of Stephen King's 1986 novel of the same name which continues the story of the Losers Club in their adult years going up against the returning Pennywise the Dancing Clown.

Twenty-seven years after the events of It, the Losers Club are now adult and all of them have led a successful careers in their life. Most of them have moved out of Derry, Maine except for Mike Hanlon, who is the only who stayed in town and worked as the town librarian. Recently, Mike realised that Pennywise has made his return after he learnt that Pennywise killed one of the gay couple after they were attacked by homophobic youths.

He calls all of the Losers Club members to come back to Derry as soon as possible. Bill Denbrough (McAvoy), Beverly Marsh (Chastain), Ben Hanscom, Richie Tozier and Eddie Kaspbrak return except for Stanley Uris, who commit suicide after being told to return to town. The Losers Club have a reunion in a restaurant but they are attack by Pennywise (Skarsgård).

After the attack, Richie and Eddie wants to leave but Bill convinces them to stay after Mike told him that there is way to defeat Pennywise once and for all. Meanwhile, Henry Bowers, the bully who terrorised the Losers Club many years ago is revealed to have survived and breaks out of the insane asylum with the help of Pennywise and begins to hunt the Losers Club.

Just like the previously movie, character developments is once again the strong points in this movie. The adult casts who plays the Losers Club really matched their younger counterparts in terms of character developments and performance. The chemistry between for the adult casts worked really well on screen. In addition, I never find any flaws from the adult casts when they tried to match their younger casts counterparts. They really sync perfectly. Out of the Losers Club, Bill Hader who played Richie Tozier, have the best performance.

Bill Skarsgård have once again gave his best and terrifying performance on his portrayal of Pennywise just like in the previous movie. He never ceases his to amaze me with his acting and all of his scenes are not very boring. Andy Muschietti have also done a great job in his direction too just like his last movie.

However unlike the first movie, there are some flaws in this movie. The jump scares are not quite scary like in this first movie. Some of them are pretty predictable and you will know that a jump scares are coming in some scenes. The jump scares were really downgraded from the previous movie. Compared to the first movie, this one is less scary.

Unlike most of the horror movies shorter runtime, this one have the longest runtime, which is 169 minutes. If you are planning to watch this movie, be prepare for a long ride. If you have experience watching a three hours movie, I am sure you won't have problem watching this movie. Another flaw in this movie is the sub-plot. The sub-plot which involved Henry Bowers' revenge against the Losers Club does not contribute much to the plot and he does not have many scenes. I felt that this sub-plot should have been remove.

Overall, It Chapter 2 may not be as great as the first one but it still a good sequel and horror movie to enjoy. If you are a fan of Stephen King's works, you probably want to watch this movie to complete It duology. Having mentioned duology, I hope this is the final instalment because I do not think it is a good idea to adapt It novel into a trilogy as it will only ruin the original novel which at best can only adapt into a duology.

Loved the movie, didn’t need to be 3 hours long, but overall a scary and thrilling end to the first one

Los actores son muy buenos, me encanto el cast fue perfecto. Y en cuanto al "terror", bueno, fue inexistente.

The magic of IT disappears and with it the expectations of the spectators. The direction of Andy Muschietti is the most remarkable aspect in the film, followed by the talent of the adult cast of '' 'The Loosers''.
While the first movie achieves to find innovative and scary ways to represent what IT is, this new movie is limited to introducing us to IT as a character that has no idea what its role in history is, resorting to exaggerated jumpscares which makes the movie be just one more of the bunch.
A sequel that does not do justice to its predecessor

I would have loved the movie being full focused on the horror theme of Pennywise, the comedy is recycled jokes that spoil the horror; I liked the movie, I watched it with my gf!

This movie is great and did not deserve its 56 rating. It tells the story amazingly, and its flash backs are great! Read the book it has way more flash backs, so metacritic read before you rate.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The movie had a lot more jumpscares than the first sequal of this newer version. they shown a perfect balance between scary and humour. I personally loved the movie, even though I am a real scaredy-cat. Expand

Very good, it complements perfectly with the first part. In addition, it is fun and do not feel at all for almost 3 hours. I recommend it!!!

Very long movie but did not feel like it. The individual involved in casting these actors did a marvelous job and needs to be commended. They carry the movie which itself had a thin plot. It was a great ride.

It chapter 2 had no measures to risk and entered Stephen King's universe brilliantly. It shows that the horror genre is not just stupid jump scares, empty stories, demons, and haunted houses.

Didn’t feel like 3 hours. Had everything from every genre rolled into a nice shiny good movie package. It’s perfect. I saw it 3 times in four days. You do the math.

Even though the movie was almost 3h long it kept a good pacing and I was never bored. I know people say the movie was too long, but as a reader of the original book , I can confidently say that it’s not. It is a challenge in itself to summarize a 1200 page book in less than 5,5h of total movie time. In my opinion some important parts of the book were left out, like Henry almost killing Mike thus Mike has to go to a hospital and deal with Zombies from Pennywise . Then the rest of the Loosers Club building an engery-circle to give Mike power to defeat those Zombies. But all in all it was a great movie.
