"Incredibles 2" is an important film, a smart sequel that enriches its animated universe through a radically contrasting plot that refreshes the Hollywood-era animation, superhero scene. Even when we've seen movies driven by gender-swapped thematic, most of these body-life switches were, first of all, comedies, but also provoked by some kind of magic object or spell, as a fortune cookie, a pair of earrings or peeing in a sacred fountain. On this occasion, the same characters are who will switch roles by their own due to a money crisis, survival compels them to make great efforts, just like a real-world family. Putting narcissistic, kind-of-sexist Bob Parr/Mr. Incredible in check when his wife takes on a fabulous new job is a risky plotting move that, even if it sounds cliché, allows the story to argue that household chores and family issues aren't easy work.

Mom is the boss here; she gets the spotlight, a woman who's forced to lay aside her children and husband for an indefinite period to "make supers legal again." There is a strong, meaty commentary/fictional debate on the issue of the legalization of superheroes, a purpose going through several discussion-worthy obstacles. Helen, the new focal point in the plot, blissfully becomes one of the strongest rocks of this sequel because there are insufficient animated films that place a woman in the starring role with such priceless storyline skills. It's an important step in female representation in kids-oriented cinema to see not only how a woman monopolizes the whole story, but also the way they change the stereotyped conception of mother; likewise, just a few decisions feel synthetic as the story takes the right time for Bird's distinctive approach and development on the visual and narrative section, a balance where comedy takes place at home mainly, whereas the most dramatic events takes place among the streets of the huge metropolis. At a given time along the movie, Voyd, the Kristen Stewart-inspired character voiced by Sophia Bush, questions Elastigirl about how it she can level her life as a heroine, mom and wife, and although it's never answered by her, the film itself provides the answer.

Special mention for a couple of iconic characters who have the right to be part of the modern-day pop-culture as for animation field. That's right, it's the meanly charming Edna Mode, who, ironically, steals the show completely just as the first film with her upset, super-rich visionary costume designer thanks to the writers' witty work. But alongside Jack-Jack, who supports on his tiny shoulders the best visual gags, they're an explosive duo, in matters of comedy, of course. It will be no surprise that it's already insinuating their own movie, however, Disney has the things clear, and that makes us happy.

The animation isn't at the same level of detail as the most visually complex feats of the company, but it isn't by reason of a poorly-crafted work, is because the film sets just some minutes after the first feature film, that is to say, they decide to remain in the same timeline of 14 years ago, safeguarding its textures and animation styles, holding true to the simplicity of the features at that time, a world where realism doesn't have to be part of the equation. There are a few eye-popping landscapes; on the contrary, the film stays in urban settings to develop most of the plot. Truly unforgettable, beautiful sequences can be counted on the fingers of one hand, there are only a handful of important pictures, the best frame: An exhausted Bob going upstairs carrying his two boys in his arms, a visual poem that finds beauty in the emotional. It's understandable that Pixar doesn't deliver a visually arresting experience, but there is a character who went too far, id est, he looked like I was looking at a 2005 video game character, his expressions were made of rubber. It's Bob Odenkirk's character, Winston Deavor, he's of wax.

"Incredibles 2" by Brad Bird is an unusual sequel, as it knows how to transmute into a Hollywood modern motion picture by using a mold that respects the universe built fourteen years ago. For a certainty, its greatest virtues are found in the priceless female importance, the skillful editing that balances comedy and drama as only Pixar can do, a super-absorbing soundtrack and an enchanting narrative treatment that simply would not be possible without Bird's experience, the numerous crew and the incredible vocal cast led by Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Samuel L. Jackson and Catherine Keener. Brimming with messages of representation, equality, family and topicality, this laugh-inducing family-friendly sequel is a step forward for animation and superhero genre, and another knockout for a company that honors its gems of yesteryear, that goes hand in hand with new technologies and its roots, that roots that were the awakening of a new era.

It had to happen and was always going to at some point, and it is a truly good film. The switch of focus to Elastigirls perspective of crime fighting is welcome and the returning and new characters are charming. However there are a few gripes i have with it my main being how much of a continuation of the first film it felt like. It didn’t need to take 14 years to tell a story that was mildly predictable and had elements ripped straight out of the first film (a train heading straight for certain death, prejudice against supers) and there was cringe child dialogue that felt like it was from an Illumination Animation feature. HOWEVER this film is very fun and a blast to watch, Pixar is back on its winning streak. Expand

A worthy sequel and a great return to form from Pixar. With plenty of thrilling action sequences and switch-ups in dynamics, this feels exactly like going back to 2004 and picking up where things left off.

I didn't want a sequel, and I suspect its writer and director Brad Bird didn't either. Because after a 14-year hiatus, The Incredibles 2 arrives with all the action and humor of the original, but none of its passion.

Another aspect that really impressed me is the graphics - it is a visually stunning movie with really good direction and camera angles. I really don't think they could have made a better movie. Perhaps a few more funny moments and original comedy would take it to a 10/10. Expand

Movie has it all - great writing (maybe a little bit predictable but still well done), great visuals (i facepalm when I see those elastagirl articles about how thicc she is) and interesting story overall, especially for kids.
it has good messages for unity, acceptance and family values. I think it does not disappoint although I can't quite give 10/10, movie dragged a little bit, villain was weakly done but connected with message of the movie well. Overall - NOT disappointed at all. Go watch it!

“Help me bring supers back into the sunlight”.

It’s been 14 years.

After all these years and sitting through three ‘Cars’ movies - The only sequel that needed to happen has finally happened. It couldn't come quickly enough. Because I cherish ‘The Incredibles’ on multiple repeats when I was little. Also losing count of how many times I've played the PS2 game version. So yeah, this meant the world to me and anticipating a sequel for a long time, just like everyone else.

While ‘Incredibles 2’ doesn't quite hold a candle to the first, but still, I liked it. There’s a lot to like and enjoy. And yet recognize it’s flaws as well. It's not a disappointment, which makes me happy, just judging by Pixar recent involvement with it’s sequels.

Brad Bird is a talented film marker and storyteller, both in animation and live action. In animation however is where he really shines. Bringing a rich style of nostalgia that clearly influenced his personal life - Going back to the golden age of cinema and inputting into his work. Same thing applies with this movie and managing to keep the level of quality strong after all these years.

The animation was great, now that’s nothing new, yet this needs repeating. It’s bright, colorful, and full of life. Pixar always succeeds in animation. The choreography during the action sequences was energetic and exciting with the animation being glue to hold it altogether.

The character’s screen time is perfectly balance so you got to see just enough of everyone. Probably the most enjoyable part of the whole movie is watching Bob (Or Mr. Incredible, if you like) trying to take care of his kids. I think the reason why is the family dynamic and the reverse roles in that situation. Most of the heart and humor are in those scenes. I mean, it’s better than the actual plot itself involving Elastic girl.

Now this ties in with my main issues: The villains are paper thin and painful generic. I don’t want to spoil anything, but then again, the movie basically spoils itself from having a predictable narrative. When the villains motivations are revealed it’s pretty ridiculous and you just don’t buy it.

I wished this wasn't a continuation from the first, especially when you notice the actors who voiced these characters sound much older, since this takes place immediately after the original. It would've been a lot better if it was set years later in a new time period, where more homages to campy superhero movies and TV shows, because around the 60’s or 70’s, the genre itself got more corny, but also gives Pixar more material to work on and have a creative spin on it. I know it may seem unfair to keep comparing this to the first, but this movie does everything it can to remind you of the first film, including plot points- So not really.

Oh and is it just me, or dose Catherine Keener character model looks exactly like Roxanne Ritchi from ‘Megamind’.

Overall rating: ‘Incredibles 2’ is a good movie and came out around the perfect time where superhero movies are bigger than ever. I can safely say it was worth the wait. Again, not quite as clever or excellent, although I am glad we finally got a sequel, good or bad.

I’ll see you in 25 years.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So, I was pretty excited going into this movie. I do really like the first movie, I think it’s easily in the top 5 for Pixar, but this movie was a little disappointing. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but it didn’t even come close to what the first movie was, but it was still a positive experience. The main issue was the plot. It wasn’t awful, but it was highly predictable. I figured out who the villian was nearly the second the character was on screen. It was either that or she had a crush on Elastigirl. Honestly hard to tell at first. I also thought her motivation was kind of stupid, and her plan was on the weak side for sure. Another big issue was that the main characters changed in personality a bit. Like Bob a total jerk the whole time. He had to pretend to support his wife based on his own selfish needs, so I think that says enough. Also Dash just became a total brat. Everyone else was pretty much the same. One somewhat minor complaint is that some of the line delivery felt kind of cheesy to me. Now for the positive. THE ANIMATION. Pixar proves time and time again that they are the absolute kings of theatrical animation, and this is one of their best looking movies yet. But I do think the ‘The Good Dinosaur’, ‘Cars 3’, ‘Finding Dory’, and ‘Coco’ look better. The writing here is mostly great. I laughed at nearly every joke in the movie. I especially liked the scene with Jack Jack fighting the raccoon, I thought that was one of the best parts of the movie, if not, the best part. I also want to applaud this movies for somewhat pushing the movie rating system by saying words like ‘hell’, ‘damn’, and ‘God’, having guns appear (shooting them as well), and showing characters drinking alcohol. All of that, and they still got a a PG rating. I know that they’ve done this in other Pixar movies, like ‘Cars’ and ‘Ratatouille’, but it still surprises and impresses me that they can get away with something that other animation studios with younger demographics rarely ever try. But I do have to go shout out ‘Shrek’. They do get away with a lot in that movie in very clever ways. Overall, this movie is a fun popcorn flick that’s weak plot doesn’t affect it too much, which is rare. I would recommend this movie to fans of the first and anyone who enjoys Pixar movies in general. The good things about this movie is that the characters are just as great as you remember them. This time we also get more use of Jack Jack who is a great addition to the movie. Elastigirl is now into the spotlight instead of Mr Incredible and the focus on her results in what I think is some of the most creative action scenes in an animated or superhero movie ever. It really is the fantastic four movie that we want. The music and voice acting is phenomenal and the plot while slightly predictable is still interesting enough to keep you hooked.

If there is a downside to this movie then it has got to be the fact that the villain ScreenSlaver is not as good as Syndrome. Their identity is predictable and their motive is rather weak.

Overall, the movie is a worth sequel and definitely makes me look forward for a third movie. Hopefully, we don't wait another 14 years for it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I find it funny that most people are calling this most a feminist movie. I am neither a card carrying feminist, nor an activist in any way, but I thought is was the opposite of feminism. The bad guy was a the Fox News version of what a feminist is. She was single, sexually ambiguous, crafty, conniving, despised men, and despite being possibly the most brilliant mind on Earth, she was overshadowed by her idiot brother and hated the world...so, obviously, the successful, brilliant, gazillionaire woman couldn't be a hero. SHE was the enemy, facing off against the socially acceptable, Disney-version of proper feminism. Elasta-girl was the strong woman that needed to break out of the shadow of masculine heroes, while maintaining her role the traditional family. It felt like Disney was shoving its feminist message down my throat. Feminism is OK as long as it's safe and its practitioners stay within socially acceptable, Disney-approved boundaries. If there is a woman that rejects the trappings of the nuclear family and dare to be brilliant, not only outshining the men around her, but rising up to break through that glass ceiling to reject having to have a man in charge, then that person is inherently evil...and needs the proper feminist to put her in her place.

Looking closer at elasta-girl, I agree that she is in her own rights a nod in the right direction for feminism. It's just the fact that her character was used as a direct contrast the bad feminist that I have issue with. Disney makes a brilliant feint by showing feminism, while really trying to undermine it. The writers could have had a pro-feminist message where the two women actually worked together to make a super-awesome team that could hold their own against any threat...the strong and competent housewife and mother, teaming up with the corporate technical genius that would make Tony Stark envious. They could have developed a better bad guy for the two to face. They did not. They pit the two against each other.

What we got instead was a villain with overly nonsensical motivations. We got the well meaning, but bumbling dad tropes. We got the hyper-competent family matriarch tropes. The best villain in the movie was the raccoon. The best scenes were the Baby Jack Jack and raccoon scenes. All this to say, it was an enjoyable in not an entirely memorable movie. I just wish they would STOP calling it a feminist triumph.

Are you kidding me? That is the most absurd criticism I ever heard and really goes to show how much people are sheltering their children nowadays.
I wouldn't even say this movie was “darker” than the first movie. If you go back and look at the fist films plot, it's about how superheros can't do what is morally right because of corporate heads who only care about money. This is dark in of itself. The start of this movie was almost the same as the first. Superheros who cant do their jobs get a random invitation to do superhero stuff again. This time, instead of Mr. Incredible doing all the superhero stuff Elastigirl gets the spotlight, while Mr. Incredible is at home babysitting the kids. The villain in this film is much weaker than Syndrome from the first movie. Syndrome had a pretty okay reason for wanting to do the bad stuff he did. Unlike the villain in this movie, who just came off very petty and pathetic.

Even the new superheros who were introduced didn't not play a well enough role in the movie. We barely saw them, let alone saw their powers used in a well enough fashion for them to be considered cool superhero characters like they should be.

I'd honestly say the best parts in this movie were when Mr. Incredible was trying to be the best dad he could be, by trying to fix his daughters relationship and taking care of Jack Jack.

The animation, colours, and everything visually was far, far superior of course but, unfortunately that was the only thing better about this than the first. That being said, was this a bad movie? No. Was it entertaining? Yes. I'm simply comparing it to the crazy standards the first movie was able to set and I don't think this movie was original enough or innovative enough to exceed those standards.

'Incredibles 2' is a worthy sequel to the brilliant 'The Incredibles' (2004) by writer and director Brad Bird. After waiting fourteen years, we get a sequel that is just as fast, busier, action-heavy, and even poignant, more so than the original. What keeps it from being as equally brilliant as its predecessor is that, even though the movie is only one minute longer than the first, there are times where the movie does feel as if its treading along rather deliberately, and I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that there are repetitive scenes every now and then. The story very much picks up where the first one left us, where the Underminer (John Ratzenberger) is threatening to take over the city, and it's up to Bob (voiced by Craig T. Nelson) and Helen (Holly Hunter) and the rest of the Parr family, aka "The Incredibles" to stop him, along with help from Lucius Best, aka "Frozone" (Samuel L. Jackson). The heroes do cause some damage along the way, and the government tells them that superheroes are, once again, illegal. It's another one of those movies where the heroes must learn the errors of their ways, despite doing it for the good intentions. However, the Parrs and Frozone are recruited by a man named Winston Deaver (Bob Odenkirk) who wants to legalize and put a good name on superheroes, as he believes that there are still good in them. The mission, he says, must be taken care of by Elastigirl alone. Leaving Bob to take care of the kids until she completes her mission. It seems that the biggest threat they must challenge is taking on a sneaky villain with the power of some form of hypnosis named "Screenslaver", Helen tries everything she can to find this villain and stop them before more people become victims to its powers. Meanwhile, Bob is trying his best to; help Dash (Huck Milner) with his Maths homework, understand why Violet (Sarah Vowell) gets so frustrated all the time, and trying his best to look after Jack Jack, unaware that he has some unique and special powers that could be dangerous. The sequel tells another good story, though maybe too similar to the original, but we see the same family dynamic, the same struggle to save the world, and at times, the movie does get surprisingly dark. Brad Bird delivers his best to make this sequel just as fun, and just as important as the first. It's not a bad Pixar sequel like 'Cars 2' (2011), or a mediocre one like 'Monsters University' (2013), it's actually extremely close to 'Toy Story 2' (1999). Pixar manages to keep reminding us why they're the best entertainment company in the business. Expand

It may go by no means that I simply adore the first Incredibles movie for its memorable characters and the fact that it was a superhero movie that tried to do something different instead of “KA-POW!-ing” for 2 hours. After a 14 YearIt may go by no means that I simply adore the first Incredibles movie for its memorable characters and the fact that it was a superhero movie that tried to do something different instead of “KA-POW!-ing” for 2 hours. After a 14 Year Hiatus, the sequel is finally here and,to be honest,it feels like a good 14 Years, diving into (yet again) another interesting story, written by Brad Bird’s excellent script (a script that, for an animated movie, gets shockingly bold throughout its 2 Hour runtime).
Where the first one was centrally a story about Mr. Incredible trying to get back into the glory days, Incredibles 2 switches places, this time with Elastigirl being the main character because Winston Deavor (or Cartoon Tony Stark played by Bob Odenkirk) wants to bring the supers back. And that's something that you could play with superhero movies, since I still haven't seen one that did it really well (even as much as I loved Black Panther as much as everyone else).
Apparently, the script also manages to give every character the right amount of screentime while giving everyone a purpose to be in this movie. Even the less important characters like Tony Rydinger.
The Screenslaver is the new villain with a name that I usually expect for a family-friendly Disney movie (just like Jackson Storm),and his presence was interesting to a halt. A Halt that grinds the character into a “Pit Of Death” where it just makes it a villain who's there to throw punches, making me feel like they could've done better with him. Although I don't really know if I can say it's a flaw or not, because,as said, his presence was intimidating for its first minutes of screentime.
As always,Pixar manages to improve with their top-quality animation with the smaller details, like the shirt’s fabric moving and the hair details, and there's some space to be had for the grander details (there's a full fight scene inside a hypnotic box and I'm still questioning how in the living hell did they move the characters in a box that lights up and shuts down every millisecond). If I would've had a flaw it would be Michael Giacchino's Score. I’m not saying the score is bad by any means (some of the tracks are glorious indeed),but I just wanted a bit more of meat to chew (especially compared to the first movie’s score).
In the end, this may be my favorite superhero movie of 2018 and a second best Pixar Sequel (because nothing beats and will beat Toy Story 2),and that's really strange, considering that I usually don't expect this from an animated movie (although I always wanted an animated superhero movie to be better than a Marvel/DC Movie.).
So yeah, check this one out, have a laugh or two and have fun!
Now,if you excuse me,I'm going to replay LEGO The Incredibles for the millionth time.

The long-awaited sequel to the original Incredibles film exceeds expectations. The Incredibles 2 is full of action, comedy, tension and heart. Somehow, it managed to give me even more laughs, chills and heart wrenches than the original.

Not only was it a typical Pixar gem, full of heart, laughs and action, it was also one of the better superhero films out there. Brilliant from start to finish, it's the type of film any age group can enjoy. It was so perfect it left us wanting more and so the waiting game began. I never really expected a sequel because Pixar rarely focused on sequels, preferring original ideas. Yet when more and more sequels came out of Pixar I, like every other Incredibles fan demanded a sequel. So after fourteen long years of waiting everyone's favourite superhero family is back.

Director Brad Bird certainly kept us all waiting for a sequel he wouldn't make unless he had an idea that was as good as or better than the original. And yes it is worth the wait. I loved every incredible minute, the animation is flawless and the fourteen year gap has clearly shown how 3D animation has progressed since the first Incredibles. The story picks up immediately where it left off. Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) is now in the spotlight, out saving the world with the long term aim of changing the law on superheroes. Meanwhile Mr Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) is left at home to take care of the kids. Things are tough enough with Dash and Violet but made all the more difficult with Jack-Jack's continuously emerging superpowers. I've mentioned before that we're currently in a time of endless superhero movies, with a few exceptions most are bland cash grabs but this is different. Another Pixar gem, all about family with a unique take on the superhero genre. The James Bond-esque score by Michael Giacchino has also exceeded expectations. Ultra jazzy and like the first Incredibles it's perfect for complimenting the film. Fourteen years of expectation is not easy to meet, there was so much to live up to it could have easily been a Finding Dory or even worse, a Cars 2. Incredibles 2 is as good as its predecessor, hilarious and packed full of action.

I can't recommend Incredibles 2 highly enough, many of you who are fans of the original have probably been waiting in anticipation for this sequel. So get out there and enjoy. If I give a film 10/10 then you know it's good.

Incredibles 2 is also relentlessly funny. The stuff with the Dad is just comedy gold, especially once he discovers Jack Jack's powers.

I had high hopes this would at least match the original masterpiece which is one of the greatest superhero/family films made with its enduring characters and themes that deconstructed the modernity of family life through Randian objectivism of its era. However, this trash film is basically a rehash of the original with little plot and one of the most subpar villain ever put on screen. Whilst there are some good laughs and the quality of the voice acting and animation is pushed further, the non-sensical plot, snail-pace pacing with the most boring A-B storyline and rehashed moments, puts this sequel as one of the worst and most disappointing film of all time. Its a shame Pixar has seemingly been dumbed down ever since Disney has purchased it. It makes me fear what Toy Story 4 will end up being after this garbage-trash tier film. Expand

Just like every other Pixar movie from the post Wall-e era (aside from Inside Out), it is a solidly acted, beautiful looking, movie with a great score and a very safe, predictable, by the numbers script. It's solidly put together overall, but to me at least it seams as though the script was the thing the filmmakers cared the least about. And (no spoilers) but the villain makes absolutely no since in their motivations. The plot in the first one favored the Mr. Incredible to main action scenes and the main one to make the story flows, in this one they swithced for the Elastic Woman, and i believe that they were very happy in this decision, while elastic woman were in the house with the kids in the first one and you could know her a little more there, in this one it is Bob (Beto) that stays with the children, and you can know a little more about both. The structure of the movie is very similar with the first one. The movie goes on right at the end of the first one so you can go on with the develop of the freedom of heroes at that time, one poweful man with influence tries with his sister to make the heroes go back to their prime, not just making them legal again, but making the people believe, so elastic woman go handle with it in missions while mr incredible is taking care of his children, with discovery and learning.
The Mr. Incredible parts are the big meaning off the story, that shows a overloaded father trying to help all of his familly and support them, but at the same time that he does this, by the end of the day he disappoint someone or can't do everything that he need because it takes so much time and so much strenght to do, and can't sleep well, but later on he can work it better and fix things, showing that things always have a way, talking and doing, so it is much casual, him doing homework, taking care of his baby and working with his girl with a boyfriend, it is all very nice and fun, that is the real familiar relationship, but kinda is out of the main story, it could feel a little displaced out of the movie but it is very important for the same.
The Elastic Woman nucleo is the one with a lot of action, while she is doing her missions to try to make the people to believe in heroes again, she got so many action with pretty epic moments, not just that but we could get to know here while she passed some likelihood with real life.
There is a competition between the parents that who is better in one thing or another, wich is kind of a metaphor for like, who take care better, who can help with the homework better, and that is another likelihood.
The action in this sequence reached another level, in the first one it was already very creative and different, but in this one is different, i liked the epicness level that it got, it is a really big blockbuster, the action was intense and very entertaining, they had some new characters with powers that they were able to mix new powers and do creative sequences combining them, i just though that they could have give some more time and function for Dash, everybody have great moments, Lucius still funny and even more dope, but Dash could have been a little better used like he was in the first one.
The cinematography in this one is great, it does have some sequences without cuts with Helen running and fighting that are so great and beautiful to watch, there are sequences with colors that are really beautiful and i believe that the cinematography helped a lot to make the action so nice as it is. The camera movimentation is one of the best things about this aspect, the camera go walking with the characters.
The soundtrack is pretty much the same as it was, it worked well.
One big problem of the movie is that it isn't really surprising in any moment, is everything really predictable, since the first moments of something you just can tell the twist that is going to happen later on, and in some crucial moments some character achieve something and it is so obvious what is going on, when the character can't tell it it is kind of annoying.
The quality of the animation is great, the characters does have a lot of texture.
Jack Jack is one of the best characters in the movie, his powers outcropping are funny and the reactions of the people around here just make the moment even more nice.
This movie is great, it isn't so deep as the first one was with somethings that got stick in your head for so long, but it still have a little bit of that, the movie is very funny, the action is probably the best in any animated movie ever, and it certain lives up to the characters that we already liked a lot.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Definitely NOT one for the smaller children. Two days later my 8-year-old is still having concerns at bedtime. A lot of parents on the boards complain about the foul language but that is the least of my worries (my wife didn't notice it) but when kids see their parents turned into "zombies" and are left alone in the world (a child's biggest fear) then this ceases to be Disney fare and becomes a different sort of movie. Definitely PG-13, I'd say keep 'em away if they're under 12. Lots of violence, lots of parents being blown away (off-screen). Expand

I like many many others have waited anxiously for 14 years for this movie and now we finally have it. This was my favorite movie as a kid, this and Finding Nemo, and I would play it over and over again every day. I got in trouble and had the movie taken away from me for a week because I told my parents to shut up after hearing Violet say it. The Incredibles was my life, so yeah I was pumped for this sequel! And I loved it! It's such an intelligent and mature animated movie just like the first one. There are multiple scenes dedicated to people talking about their views on society and the world and I was just like wow, I'm watching this in an animated movie. It's unfair to call this or the first one a kids movie because they're aimed towards everyone. I was just bubbling with excitement throughout the entire movie. From the amazing action scenes, characters, and it's philosophy. Yes, there's a ton of philosophy in this movie, and I loved it! The only reason why I like this one less is because the villain's reveal could be seen from a mile away. Clearly, it doesn't really detract from your viewing experience. Oh, and also Jack Jack steals the show. Every scene he's in is awesome and hilarious. Particularly, an entire scene dedicated to him fighting a raccoon. If we do not get an Incredibles 3 I will die, I don't care if I have to wait another 14 years, clearly, this one was worth the 14 year wait anyways. A+ Expand

This along with almost everything they've put out since 2011 is lackluster, strained, tired retread and suffers from the same overlong, seen it all before, cliché laden action fare it's supposed to spoof. Sure same high production and artistic standards, but what's fresh here? Maybe the novelty of computer animation has worn off, or more likely it seems for Pixar it used to be: "We have a good idea!" whereas now it's "How can we best do another of these?" and sadly the result is the magic is mostly gone. 14 long years it took Pixar to release the sequel to one of its most emblematic and famous films: The Incredibles.

Ironically for us it was 14 long years but for the characters it was just a few hours. It's amazing but this film starts exactly where the original ended.

To replicate the magic of something that was so wonderful it's something very difficult especially with sequels because frankly almost all of them end up being minor spectacles.

I have criticized Pixar for changing their approach by making a lot of sequels because something that distinguished the studio were their stories and their stories were good and original.

With the exception of what they did with the wonderful trilogy of Toy Story all of the Pixar sequels have resulted in minor films. They were good but not nearly as good as the originals.

But I won't really go deep into the film. I prefer for everyone to see it and form their own opinion. I just have to say that I don't think it's superior to the original but I do think it's the best sequel Pixar has done since Toy Story 3. Is the second best sequel they've ever done.

The story is great. The animation evidently improved in a spectacular way. Michael Giacchino's score is excellent, it sends you back to the past and submerges you as if time had never passed.

The villain sadly is not up to Syndrome but frankly I think that's the only problem the film has. It's a small problem but it exists. Nevertheless I repeat this is a spectacular film that deserves to be seen and I repeat: this is the best sequel Pixar has done since Toy Story 3 and it's the only sequel they should have ever done after that one.

Do I want a third film? Of course I would love a third film.
Do I have to wait another 14 years? Well, that's a very different thing. But honestly I have to say it, even though recently Brad Bird said there are no plans for a third entry, I think he really should try because the characters deserve it.
Especially as we can see with the little Jack-Jack who stole this film. He's a wonderful, funny, endearing and adorable character, I say it again, the characters deserve more and we the audience deserve more of those characters.

Here, it just feels like a safe, easy going sequel. lacks of action, the antagonist is weak and predictable as hell. It has funny spots and moments, i like the redesing of the characters, the new ones look okayish, but, my problem goes with the plot, so bland, so safe, nothing really interesting to see after the first one. Pixar is going downfall since the last years, yes, deal with it, Pixar movies are not reaching their standars like before. Fun movie, entertaining, but, its bland and safe. The Incredibles 2 Review
Cinematography: 7/10 There were no awkward pauses or awkward double takes.

Costume Design: 9.732/10 I like the way the fashion is interwoven in the film's story through Edna Mode. Besides Edna Mode, fashion is already a part of the conversation from the beginning of the film concerning super hero attire in attendance to the meeting with Winston Deavor. Attire helps a great theme of the story concerning hiding and revealing.

Film Editing: 9.732/10 I didn't feel like any repeat scenes were in use with voice overs. Sometimes repeat scenes are noticeable by repeated character action or awkward placement of a scene with voice overs (which will receive notice in a future review concerning another film).

Make-up and Hair-styling: 6/10 For an animation - okay - It's definitely not like Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. At the same time, I don't think that much fine CGI handling with make-up and hair-styling is an aim of The Incredibles 2.

Sound Editing: 7.732/10 Clear, crisp, and accurate. I don't find the baby's mannerisms annoying throughout either: I actually find them more amusing through until the end of the film. There was no overkill sounds to force comedic effects.

Visual Effects: 9.479/10 The Incredibles 2 looks solid and the visuals work very well with the film's flow. The action is well-done, simple, and not corny.

Story: 8.759/10 I like the story. The film brings about a huge timeless theme concerning hiding and revealing which people go through on a second-by-second basis. People want to be themselves and - at times, conform to their social surroundings which may be against the direction of their choosing for their life. Yet, these same people attempt to be their selves in other ways, and - at times, don't reveal their true complete self until another - like a "hero" or "heroine" in position to do so - steps forward to fight for their own rights which supports the rights of so many in hiding. The film draws heavily on the importance of being and unity, of and between, those striving for their freedoms.

Acting: 8.999/10 The voices stimulate the animations. A part of the reason the film is enjoyable is heavily due to the voice acting. After watching a lot of dubbed shows, one learns to realize the importance of voice acting and the difference voice acting may have on a production - especially the final result of a production.

Personal: The Incredibles 2 is an enjoyable film. It's definitely a film worth having in one's film library.

Overall: 8.429/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Incredibles 2 has a scope that both reaches to the past and extends forward into the future. What I enjoyed the most was the family element, what makes a family, and also how different family dynamics can play out. I found the Parr family struggling with their new situation very insightful and entertaining. Edna was wonderful and Jack Jack was endearing, though by the end I found it a little ridiculous with how many powers he started to exhibit. The villain, though the reveal and character switch was a little predictable and contrived, I found their motivation very compelling and relevant in today's age and added to the suspense. In summary: It was very satisfying, funny, and compelling and I can't wait for the next one. PS:-- The short at the beginner (Bao) was very touching. Not as good as Chess Game, but then what really is right. Expand

Incredibles 2 ended up being pretty much what I feared it was going to be, more of a cartoon. However, although it never comes close to the original, it still is very entertaining and tons of fun.

It has a lot of great action, the visuals and animation are stunning as always, and the comedy is top notch. The greatest strength of the movie, like the first one, is the bond between the Parr family. It is very easy to get invested in their relationships and individual characters. The weakest aspect is the new villain. While still a good villain, it does not compete with Syndrome from the original. The backstory of Syndrome and his overall presence and performance is iconic and honestly just really hard to beat. Incredibles 2 does a good job of continuing to explore not only superheroes but the family dynamic of the main characters. But I couldn't help feel that the emotional journey each character went on was a bit more impactful the first time around. So for these reasons, I personally feel the first is still the superior film. But comparisons aside, Incredibles 2 is still a quality sequel with a good story and lots of entertainment value. Expand

Fourteen years after the release of the original Incredibles movie, the super family; Mr. Incredible, Elastic Girl, Violet, Dash and Jack Jack, is back. The long interval was due to director Brad Bird’s reluctance to jump right into a sequelFourteen years after the release of the original Incredibles movie, the super family; Mr. Incredible, Elastic Girl, Violet, Dash and Jack Jack, is back. The long interval was due to director Brad Bird’s reluctance to jump right into a sequel until he was sure he had the elements to make one, which did not happen until 2015.Although understandabe, this can be risky for two reasons, it tests the audience’s patience and if a sequel does not turn out to be at least as good as, if not better than the original, then it can backfire spectacularly, as the response to Cars 2 illustrates. The first Incredibles movie became a cinematic phenomenon, and rightly so because of the bold concept it represented and the audacious direction in which Pixar was headed with its production. There just was no way, such a well-received movie was not going to get a sequel...and eventually it did.The sequel picks up where the first movie left off, a villain, the underminer uses a giant boring machine to dig underground into the city bank to steal money from its vault. The Incredibles, along with their superhero partner, Frozone, who also returns, attempt to foil the robbery but fail, with massive damage done to the city. This prompts outrage against the Incredibles and Frozone, in particular and superheroes in general, leading to a law banning the activities of superheroes and shutting down the government programme under which they had operated.Faced with bills to pay the Parrs (Mr. Incredible and Elastic Girl) ponder the future and their need for regular jobs, as it appears they had essentially been on the government payroll, as part of the now shutdown superheroes programme. It is at this point that a rich business man who owns Telecoms Company, Devtech, contacts them through Frozone and invites all three to a meeting, at which his sister (the brains behind the company’s tech) is present, where he pitches an idea to them. He believes that if they participate in what he plans, it will correct the public’s misconception about superheroes and get them to be accepted again. All agree to participate and subsequent events see the Incredibles face off against their main foe in this movie, the self-described Screen Slayer, in fast-paced action which unfolds along with dramatic incidental music. The movie’s comedic moments revolve around Jack Jack’s many superpowers to hilarious effect. This is an outstanding action movie that just happens to be animated. It is that good. Expand

It’s a very average film AT BEST that carries little weight when compared to the first with way to much focus placed on Jack-Jack in a very obvious attempt to sell merchandise and toys! This is shameful and others should be calling these things out! This is just another Finding Dory cash grab people that benefits on the nostalgia of idiots! Furthermore Metacritic is also a joke! This film has a lower average and a lower all around score on RT than other films I’ve checked in the same average score range yet here it’s rated at 80 while other films that have gotten both a higher average and higher percentage on RT have a lower rating here! It’s very clear that Metacritic picks and chooses what reviews it wants for films it wants to promote as can easily be seen with some films having 50+ reviews to cover up a bad one bad review while others have much higher reviews but are limited in the 40’s to keep the average down! Shame on those of you who are running this scam, not everyone is so easily fooled! This how films like Moana who have an all around worse RT score and lower average score are listed as “Universally Acclaimed” while films like Zootopia who won practically every single award, (including a Oscar), has a higher RT score, a higher average score, was among AFI’s top 10 movies of 2016 (the only animated film and a very rare honor) and was hailed as one of the best animated films of all time by multiple critics is rated as just average here! This site is a joke! Expand

Today as a film studies undergrad, I continue to cherish how it retells classic familiar superhero tropes through a bleak commentary on legitimate discrimination at a time of nuclear threat. Second to Toy Story, it stands as my favorite Pixar motion picture. So right when Pixar announced this sequel, I knew it would become nothing more than unnecessary, lazy fan service.

Turns out I guessed correctly.

Now I shall go on to explain why I hated The Incredibles 2: Rather than realistic revision of classic comic book tropes, it embraces them, right down to the villain’s predictable secret identity. Unfortunately, it goes beyond mere unoriginality; more like serious inconsistency. I mean, hero work is said to remain illegal, except how did this family of supers steer clear past prison bars three months after destroying Syndrome’s Omnidroid v.10? Even more noticeable, the family’s lack of knowledge about Jack-Jack’s powers until about midway through the film contradicts the previous feature’s climax.

I’ve voiced before serious disdain towards superhero flicks, but I do believe it can be done right with the right level of care. Heck, fourteen years ago; besides SpongeBob, my favorite show was Teen Titans--I even made each new episode an event by dragging my Dad into watching them all with me (since I thought he might have enjoyed it too). Those fantastical beings’ characterizations were consistent, instead of carelessly thrown around like here.

Plus, it also contradicts its own message. The main villain, “Screenslaver,” says TV stops our communication, with no thanks to supers, yet here these screenwriters go freely celebrating supers on a giant screen! On a personal level, Bob lies to his wife without facing punishment, making him less sympathetic. At a deeper level, a hollow liberal “Make All Supers Legal Again” act drives the key narrative without ever addressing the real meat of the discrimination issue it attempts to talk about.

You may think, “Hey! It’s written AND directed by Brad Bird… who gave us the first addition!” Well, remember Tomorrowland? Keep anticipating his eventual comeback folks. Just like that George Clooney embarrassment three years ago, miniscule originality comes out of his newest project, he rather just copies other iconic comic book movie scenes. One example: an early action sequence copies Spider-Man 2’s train stopping to far weaker results. Another example: the villain’s key weapon, mind control, has been overdone to death in other superhero plots.

Okay, pop quiz: what do kids love to watch more than anything?

A) Intellectually stimulating educational programs.
B) A Mister Rogers documentary.
C) Julia, the first autistic Muppet.

The answer:

D) A baby fighting a raccoon bandit.

Jack-Jack’s screen time tops Dash or Violet combined, who unlike the baby go through growing pains necessary to the story. Consequently, Jack-Jack turns each sad moment suddenly funny under a surface-level Marvel mentality that hurts the entire viewing experience.

Although to be fair, it’s understandable why most people love this sequel to The Incredibles. The foul script’s blame shouldn’t go on the reprising voice actors, since Holly Hunter does act well through her vocal work to match Elastigirl’s new exhilaration of feeling fifteen years younger, while Craig T. Nelson delivers a fantastic common core joke perfectly. Beyond the voices, there is some value here and there, such as Bob’s amends to become a good pop, and a memorable spectacle that pits Elastigirl against someone inside a brainwashing room, six walls blaring hypnotic swirls, her eyes closed for the whole fight. Violet also gets a fair share of great hand-to-hand combat worth her pre-established adolescent problems. Though Dash doesn’t do much other than attempt math homework, possibly to make his feeble motivations less obvious.

Like the imbalance between the attention of the characters, the odd arrangement of the two subplots between the mother and father rattles both by a choppy tone, building up to a forgetful visual-driven climax. From the first act, Helen’s growth literally falls back at square one; her letting Dash and Violet help still raises her skeptic fear as if nothing happened since the first movie. It barely can even be called quality family entertainment: some dialogue says the word, “damn.” Inappropriate for a PG rating!

If anything, the hopping lamp company’s gradual downfall into sequel madness only made me further appreciate their older works. We deserve better than an ingenuine nostalgia commercial. Sorry.

So there's no doubt that this long-awaited sequel was one of my most anticipated movies of this year, especiallyThe original Incredibles is not only one of my favorite animated movies, but it's also one of my favorite superhero movies ever. So there's no doubt that this long-awaited sequel was one of my most anticipated movies of this year, especially before seeing the trailers! I didn't like the trailers, the first one in particular, because I predicted that this movie would lean heavily on a formula we got tired of. This formula includes two messages; the female empowerment, and "taking care of your family is the true superheroic act", and that's exactly what we got in this movie, especially the first message, it's a political issue, so .... why not? This formula didn't just make everything in the movie looks like I've seen million times before, but it also made this movie feels outdated. Actually, the problem isn't only related to the messages, but the plot itself is formulaic and outdated for a superhero movie. Almost everything happens, every event, every element, every part in this movie is archetypal.
The developments of the story are typical. The characters are slightly developed, but also in away that doesn't feel authentic or original by any means.
The villain, Screenslaver, is stereotypical and feels if he comes from an old cheesy superhero movie, or an animated movie from any animation studio except Pixar. This villain even acts like The Joker, so that's saying something. Even his motives are well-worn, and he revealed them in a single monologue. Yes, this very monologue that Syndrome mocked in the original movie. So don't expect a villain like Syndrome. So don't expect to see a villain like Syndrome. And of course, we have a plot twist in this movie but I saw it coming from far away, so it definitely didn't work. Also, what leads us to the ending is rushed and quite absurd. Nevertheless, there are some subtle plot details in the part when Elastigirl was fighting crime. They leaned so heavily on the humor in this sequel. The humor wasn't bad at first. In fact, almost every joke that is related to Jack-Jack worked, and I couldn't help but burst out in laughter almost every time he made a single noise. But the jokes became repetitive, so they lost all their sharpness. Also, the timing of the humor was very bad at the third act. What's worse, at least for me, is that they made Bob Parr a total moron so he can be the comic relief while making Elastigirl the real heroine of the movie. Now, Dash is my favorite Incredible! What a likable character he is! He is very cool, and all his actions are fit for his age. That gave this character a sense of reality. In fact, all the characters act if they were real. When they interact with each other, when they get tired, when they become happy, when they laugh, even when they breathe they feel if they were actual people, if they were humans, and that's really INCREDIBLE! All the cast is great, as usual. But Holly Hunter who shines in this sequel. She gave even more energy Helen Parr/Elastigirl.
I was worried because they replaced Spencer Fox, the original actor who voiced Dash, but I think Huck Milner is even better! Frozone had much more time in this sequel, and that made this character seems much more like Samuel L. Jackson, and of course this is a bonus! Jack Jack's new abilities are basically perfect, both in what his powers are and in how they are revealed. Michael Giacchino's score is gold, and well-used. The animation is top-notch and seamless. But it's the action in this movie that should have a fair share of praise. Incredibles 2 has some of the most thrilling and exhilarating action sequences ever in an animated movie, if not memorable enough. The movie full of flashing lights that aren't just annoying, but they really can be harmful to the eyes, especially if you watched the movie in 3D. I'm sorely disappointed, but I'll try as much as I can not to make my let-down affect my rating, especially because most of the issues I've with this movie are related to one thing, the triteness that I, as a Disney/Pixar fan, didn't get used to. (7/10)

Story: The story of Incredibles 2 revolves around this rich brother-sister duo who want to make superheroes legal again, so they enlist the help of Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, and Frozone to help generate some positive buzz so that they can get the law changed. Elastigirl ends up being their main spokesperson, and she's essentially sent out with a little camera embedded into her suit that will record her as she saves lives and defeats evil. But there is a bad dude, Screenslaver, who comes into play and is the main villain. You can probably tell where it's heading from here.

The story is definitely different than the first movie. They didn't just do a role reversal and smack a 2 at the end of the title; there is a noticeable difference in how this movie plays out, at least for the first act. There's more of a focus on the family, and less of a focus on one specific character doing superhero stuff. The individual superhero sequences are still there, but it definitely has more of a family driven vibe than the first one, which I believe was the correct direction to go. As I get to in the next section, the villain is what really brought down my score for this one. The build up was good, the family dynamic was great, the humor was spot on, but the villain didn't bring that presence that I was hoping for. The finale also seemed a bit too easy for the heroes. Characters: Jack-Jack is the star of the show here. He is the reason for most of the laughs, as he's at the center of most of the film's humor. I also enjoyed watching Mr. Incredible try to be a somewhat regular dad after always having some sort of job. It turns out even superhero dads are just...dads. It was nice to see Elastigirl get the nod this time around to be the main on-screen superhero and it was cool to see how she takes care of business. Mr. Incredible relies on his strength and determination, but Elastigirl relies on her intelligence and various stretchy abilities. The villain in this film was incredibly disappointing as a follow up to Syndrome. I was afraid that this would happen, considering how great of a villain Syndrome was, but they really went the generic route with the villain in Incredibles 2 and it disappointed me quite a bit. The villain still does its job and there are some interesting aspects to it, but...eh. Finally, I wish Frozone had more screen time in this movie...but I wish he had more screen time in the original as well. Animation: It's crazy how great animation looks these days. I didn't think I'd notice that much of a difference between the first one and this one, but there's a lot more noticeable detail (apart from the fact that everything just looks better, more crisp). Screenplay: Brad Bird wrote another solid one here. For an animated film primarily meant for a younger audience, he doesn't write the characters to where it feels like they're talking to children. I like that. Overall: Incredibles 2 is a worthy successor to The Incredibles. It has a weaker villain and I feel like the finale was not nearly as enjoyable, but everything else comes together to make it one of this year's best films.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So to start off, this movie could easily be a 6/10 simply because of how lazy Mr. Incredible's parts were. It's easiest to review this film by taking apart the two plots. Mr. I at home and Mrs. I at work, as well as what happens before and after. First, the movies begging. Pretty good, actually. The beggining fight scene with the villian known as the underminer, was pretty solid. Second, we get into the part where the incredibles get in trouble for being heroes when heroes are illegal. They get in trouble blah blah blah. Later Mr. and Mrs. Incredible are apprached by Frozone and he tells them there is a guy who wants to make heros legal. Ten minutes later we learn about this guy and his sister and Mrs. I is choosen to go into hero work and let Mr. I stay home with the kids. This is where we see Mrs. and Mr.'s incredbibles realationship show. They have an imperfect bond and I like how their relationship with each other was written. Sadly though, this relationship is underultilized. Now, into the two main plots. We'll start with Mr. I and his plot while he watched the kids at home. This plot was unfortunatly very lazily written and the worst part of the entire movie. Everything her has been used before. Its just the same dad has trouble taking care of the kids while mom is away with the work Superhero slapped on. Violets boy trouble, Dash's boy trouble, and Jack Jack being a problem because he's a baby. The only thing that makes these problems original is the fact that they are caused by superhero powers (save Dash, he's apparently just bad at math). Despite plot problems, I will give this part of the plot this: Its surprisingly funny. Its not always laugh out loud funny, but you'll find yourself smiling or chuckling at times. Edna's scenes were by far the best and most humorous. I mean, Mr. I's part of the plot was really only comic relief and was only really important at the end of the movie. Next, Mrs. I's plot. I loved Mrs. I's plot. It was fun, action packed and honestly, just really enjoyable. There were no humorous themes and the plot got a bit dark at times which I appplaud. On top of that the action scences are really fun the watch and the villian was really interesting, even if at times her interesting villian motivation ended up being a bit unrealistic. Now comes the twist, the villian is the sister of the guy who wants to make supers legal. She believes her father died (he was shot), because he depended on the supers to save him to much, even after they were made illegal. Its a interesting motivation, even if it is a tad unrealistic. She is known as the Screenslaver and the scences where she uses optical illusions to control people are really cool. Now we get to the part where the two plots intersect. Screenslaver takes control of Mrs. I lures Mr. I to Mrs. I and enslaves him two, and well as enslaving a lot of other heros. I dont know what to say about the conclusion. There is nothing wrong with. The kids free Mrs. I who frees Frozone and Mr. I and they stop Screenslaver from crashings a boat into the city. Supers are made legal, blah blah blah. In conclusion while Mr. I's parts were bland and lazy save some humor, Mrs. I's were fun and intewresting. I found myself able to tolerate the movies many weaknesses due to its stranghts. Where you give this a six or a seven depends how much you liked the jokes and Mr. I's parts. Mrs. I's you'll prouboubly find most people enjoying. PS: The music was also good. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Incredibles 2 is the second best Pixar sequel next to Toy Story. I enjoyed that they gave Elastigirl and Violet bigger roles and Jack Jack was funny. I liked Mr Incredible as a Mr. Mom. Now for the disappointment which is the supervillain Screensaver. She will go down as the most boring super villain since Superman IV Nuclear Man. Expand

It's really exciting and entertaining. But it's not as incredible as the first one. The characters are capable of much bigger things, but they are still in a kid movie, I guess.
