I read both of the professional critics' reviews after having thoroughly enjoyed watching "In Harm's Way." I am not a connoisseur of CGI, and I did not let substandard production values, occasionally stilted dialogue, or a plot condemned asI read both of the professional critics' reviews after having thoroughly enjoyed watching "In Harm's Way." I am not a connoisseur of CGI, and I did not let substandard production values, occasionally stilted dialogue, or a plot condemned as "formulaic" keep me from being thoroughly engaged by the story and charmed by the artistry of the actresses playing the widow and her young daughter. As I so often observe, critics praise to the skies films that have little or no appeal to normal theatergoers while they look down their noses at movies that average people want to watch.… Expand

Contrary to what has been said about this movie, I am not a connoisseur of CGI yet I was still turned off by the substandard production values, terribly stilted dialogue delivered with little attention to the craft of acting, and with aContrary to what has been said about this movie, I am not a connoisseur of CGI yet I was still turned off by the substandard production values, terribly stilted dialogue delivered with little attention to the craft of acting, and with a formulaic plot I could not finish this movie. The "real" locations were beautiful, but since the movie was produced in association with the Chua'an Thousand-Island Tourism Commission (any misspelling was unintentional), I'm not surprised. Seems that might've been the point of the movie, depict parts of China as beautiful. In that respect the movie succeeded, which is why I didn't give it 0 stars.… Expand
