It was an overall good movie. However, the movie left out great story lines that were in the book. It is too bad J.K. Rowlings writing was not developed into its fullest visual extent.

Im just to disappointed because my favorite scene in the book was not included ( The Prophecy Chapter ). Thats the part where Harry is shouting at Dumbledore. Although I love the effects, most specially the match between Dumbledore and Voldemort. I love the concept of Black VS White, as in literally! But the emotions that the novel brought, it was not totally depicted in the movie. Overall, its a good one! Plus, in fairness, Harry and Cho knows how to kiss! Expand

I'm a big Harry Potter fan and just finished up book 7 last week. Order of Phoenix novel was long, drawn out with a very annoying, teenage angst Harry Potter. The film directed by David Yates (britsh TV director) surpasses the JK Rowlings book. OH yes there are unnecessary deviations from the book but overalll the film ehances the story. For the first time a Harry Potter movie moves briskly and is well paced. Yates cuts film sharp but leaves in the necessary elements. THe acting is the best we have seen in a Potter film, Radcliffe, Watson and Grint are all at their best along with well cast new comers of Umbridge and Luna. Gary Oldman is still a little off cast as Sirius Black but he manages well enough. My only disapointment is that the final battle is a little rushed and doesn't capture the struggle as nearly as well as the novel. Overall the best Harry Potter film yet followed in descending order by HP3, HP2,HP4 and then HP1. Much greater rewatch ability then previous Potte films, umbridge is used just enough to get the feel of her annoying ways without being over used in the film and becoming annoying. Expand

This movie did some things very well, and others not so well. I thought the acting was good, the atmosphere was dark and foreboding as it's supposed to be, the special effects were great (I don't know what Charles C. is complaining about), but they messed up on the story, which is the biggest disappointment. -It was great that a lot of the unneeded parts were cut from the book, which was far too long (even J.K. Rowling admits this), and in terms of plot, the fifth book had the least going on. BUT, they had only two parts that they needed to truly get right for the movie, which they messed up. [***SPOILER**] 1) The battle between Dumbledore and Voldemort. It could have been a bit longer and more imaginative. True, they didn't need to follow the fight exactly like in the book because it's just a fight scene and doesn't develop the story, but having Dumbledore bring those statues to life as in the book would've rocked (or they could have expanded the fight in their own way). 2) The prophecy. This is the MOST important part of book 5; it's the climax and moment of revelation. This is one of the few parts of the book where something actually happens and affects the overall stories. But all we get in the movie is some obscure voice (not knowing it's professor Trelawny makes her character pointless in the movie because her importance in the book was that she made the prophecy. So why is she in the movie if it's never explained she made the prophecy?) saying a few lines about Harry and Voldemort having to kill each other. Even if you like the movie better than the book, you have to admit that this was the most important moment of the story, and they did in fact ruin it. The prophecy serves not only to explain what happened in the prior stories, but also sets up what's to come. I.E. We learn that Neville will play a big role in the future (which he does). People who've never read the books thus miss out on a huge chunk of plot, especially why Voldemort chose to kill Harry. -So overall a good movie, but not spectacular. Expand

What the hell has happened to Warner bros!!?? This movie puts a masterpiece novel to shame. The only similarities between the novel and the movie are the names of the characers and places. Nothing else! Music (if there was any) is the weakest point of the movie!! Story... I'm a die hard fan of Harry Potter but watching this movie makes me very drowsy. The ootp novel is one of the best but looks like this movie has been made by a bunch of people who have just lost everything. It's so dull!! Acting... This time Daniel has improved a lot. Rupert and Emma were good as usual. Imelda as Umbridge rocked but I think she was given more than enough screen space. At the end of the movie I was tired of watching her but it's the fault of the newbie screenwriter and director. Gary Oldman as Sirius was fabulous. Watching Harry and Siruis together was a real enjoyment. Michael Gambon as Dumbledore was a little better but still Richard Harris was the true Dumbledore. May he rest in peace. Direction... I'd only say that David Yates ruined it! Visuals... They were ok. Nothing extraordinary. The end fight which was the most hyped was the most boring in the movie especially the fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort. Why don't they stick to the book?! I feel like crying!!!! The only nice thing about this movie is the acting and the scene when Voldemort gets inside Harry. Expand

Nearly without exception, all of the low scores justify their assessments as reflections of the movie's failure to adhere to the book (and even change the book in parts). Well, kids, I'll tell you what a "4"-rated movie would be--an 81/2 hour visual carbon copy of the Rowling written work. Good heavens that would suck (and would lack any creative exercise). Anyway, after 4 movies, one would think the kids would understand the necessary challenge of altering a book to become a movie. Now, for my assessment of the movie as a movie: It's the best Potter film yet. "Phoenix" is the first movie to really grasp the main characters as living, breathing, modern humans--rather than as transposed caricatures--and connect their humanity to the viewer. It was more than fun or entertaining--it was emotionally charged and compelling. Book lovers (of whom I am one) should be able to separate themselves from movie lovers and judge each on its own merits. Expand

When Lord Voldemort is already having armies at his command, Harry, Ron, Hermoine, and gang battle against him as they encounter new enemies and old enemies before Harry learns that "neither one can live while the other survives". I've saw this in a theater in Fredericksburg, Virginia, enjoyed it and now time for my opinion to make this review a little bit short. The fantasy action was amazing, the acting was neat and entertaining, the characters were a little bit developed, the villian Lord Voldemort was intimidating, but a lot of fun thanks to Ralph Fiennes' amazing performance, and the storyline was well-paced. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is an entertaining entry of the fantastic series. Next two reviews are HP6 and HP7 Part 1. 8/10 Expand

But this one is probably the most dark, intense and interesting out of all of them. The innocence within Harry Potter and his friends has completely vanished. This film is a real character study of Harry, but only Harry. There is very little development for the other characters. They for the most part serve as nothing more but a supporting cast, unlike previous chapters, which weakens the film. But overall, it's entertaining and remarkably acted, especially Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and Imelda Staunton (Dolores Umbridge). I tried my best to enjoy this movie as if I never read the book.

Did I enjoy the movie? Yes. As if you never read the book? Unfortunately, no.

I enjoyed it because it's quite action-packed. I really liked the final 35 minutes of the movie. The battle scenes were much better than I imagined.

Unlike the previous movie, I was pretty much okay with most changes even though I was a little upset.

However, there were some changes I am not okay with:

-The entire Quidditch part had to be cut off. It's sad. The fact the movie did not even acknowledge the sport just creates more plot holes in my opinion. Also, it had a huge character development on Ron. Ron in the movie basically felt useless without the Quidditch. AND WHERE THE HELL IS "WEASLEY IS OUR KING"?
-Ron, Hermione and Malfoy not being Perfects. Again, it's a character development that should not have been ignored.
-Petunia Dudley's important role in Harry's life. This is a huge character development among the Dudleys in the book. This shouldn't have been ignored.
-Ginny Weasley's maturity is not shown explicitly. Again, character development that is not to be ignored. She could have been more liked by the people who only watch the movies if her badass attitude from the books, is shown in the movies.

As an aspiring screenwriter however, I understand why the writer of the movie had to make so much cuts. It's really hard to translate the longest book in the Harry Potter series into the second-shortest movie.

There are some changes I am okay with as well:

-St. Mungo scenes has to be cut. I think Dudley finding out about his parents in the Room of Requirement instead was a good choice to make the movie faster without losing its essence.
-The replacement teacher for Professor Trelawney is not featured in the movie. I felt like this is a filler honestly so I see why it has to be cut.
-Rita Skeeter not featured in the movie. GOOD. And also, another filler in the book.
-Cho Chang becoming a **** instead. I think this would make her more unlikable than she was in the books, where she whines about her dead ex instead of whistleblowing Dumbledore's Army. GREAT.

The tone of the movie is suprisely more lighter than the previous movie. It still had its humor, but not completely from the book.

The casting and the performances are great as well. I think that is much of the best highlight out of the movie series.

Overall, the main importance of the movie is that if you enjoy it, then you enjoyed it despite the many cuts it had to make, which irked many fans. But come on, if you did not enjoy it because of the cuts, then, it's your problem.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix finally delivers on the promise of the series. The fifth entry in the beloved saga set in Hogwarts, Order of the Phoenix continues the trend of directors changing in this beloved franchise. Yet, forHarry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix finally delivers on the promise of the series. The fifth entry in the beloved saga set in Hogwarts, Order of the Phoenix continues the trend of directors changing in this beloved franchise. Yet, for the first time, a director finally corrects the issue plaguing the success of the films: the length. Streamlining the story and focusing only on the portions that actually impact the story and the climactic battle, Yates turns Order of the Phoenix into far-and-away the best film in the franchise thus far. Able to focus on the story, use the already established characters perfectly, and introduce new ones into the fold, Yates is able to make this a sequel less rooted in the series' original innocence and youth, but rather a far more mature effort out of pure necessity. No longer able to stick their head in the sand and refuse to see what is going in the world around them, the students of Hogwarts must grow up and take charge when the adults will not. As such, their youth is becoming abridged and they must grow up overnight. In Order of the Phoenix, they are able to do just that.

In narrowing duff the fluff and childish elements such as the Quidditch, Yates is able to make Order of the Phoenix a strong thematic work. Dealing with numerous themes, the film may be a bit obvious in their dealings with characters coming right out and saying what it all means, but the film nonetheless handles it well. Plus, its overt and blunt nature can be easily explained by the audience it is targeting: young teens. Ensuring that they get the message about good and evil being in all of us, leaving it up to us to decide what to become, is heard and understand far exceeds any need for subtlety. That said, strong writing and acting - especially from Gary Oldman and Michael Gambon who are largely tasked with pointing Harry in the right direction by way of the film's themes - make the themes rousing and powerfully realized. Watching Harry struggle between both sides and having to rely upon his friends and their love for him to overcome it all is powerful, moving, and incredibly resonant. Where the film could become preachy or cloying, it instead becomes a momentous achievement for a franchise seeking firm footing. In Yates, it finds this with the man able to balance the youth of the characters with the wisdom they must possess to succeed that will tear away their innocence.

In exploring its themes of good and evil, the film draws an interesting parallel to Lucifer in its depiction of Lucius Malfoy (Jason Isaacs). His name is obviously a dead giveaway of this fact, but as he tempts Harry with the ability to see and rule over the world, it becomes rather interesting. As a death-eater, Lucius does the bidding of Voldemort, so then how could he be Lucifer? While odd on the surface, it makes a lot of sense. Lucifer is like any other being swayed by evil and temptation. Once good, he is led astray to becoming more evil than good and seeks to destroy others along with himself. Yet, absolute evil - or, in the context of the film, Voldemort - led to him to betray himself and his honor. In portraying Lucius/Lucifer as merely a supporter of the absolute evil in the film, Order of the Phoenix shows some subtle nuance that is unexpected, but smartly constructed.

However, this show is really all about the battle. With Yates' approach focusing on important details to the plot over developing already developed characters, Order of the Phoenix manages to efficiently and strongly build-up to its climax. With Rocky-esque montages defining the opening hour of this film as the students learn the Dark Arts to defend themselves from Voldemort, Order of the Phoenix constantly builds to the moment where it puts those students in the position to actually use their newly developed skills. Furthermore, with the depth of their training and the constant ominous dread regarding Voldemort's return lurking in the background, it is hard not to get caught up in the tension and thrill of what is upcoming. When the climactic battle finally arrives, it lives up to every bit of tension and anticipation in both this film and the series as a whole. Exciting and leaving you on the edge of your seat, the only word to accurately describe this battle is "epic". In scope, feeling, and design, every bit of this battle is epic. As the kids run through the building and fight the Death-Eaters, as the Order of the Phoenix arrives to fight the Death-Eaters, and as Voldemort and Dumbledore square off with one another, the film delivers thrills and excitement like the series has yet to see. In the first five films, it is hard to find a better constructed scene in terms of fight choreography, special effects, or in direction. It is a thrilling cap to the film that satisfies the tension of this film and builds additional amounts up for its successors. It is the kind of sequence that makes you crave more time in the Wizarding World.

The opening scene in this movie is cool and interesting, and the movie overall felt mysterious and exciting, witch I enjoyed. Compared to the previous movie, is this movie much better and it was also funny at some places. The music from Nicholas Hooper is great and there are a lot of unique and cool things in this movie that I haven't seen before, which I really enjoyed. The actors in this movie are awesome, and this movie is also very well made and I never got bored. The negative thing about this movie is that the tempo is a little to slow and it wasn't that much "Hogwarts" in this movie as in the previous movies. I also found it difficult to string along in this movie, which I didn't like.
I also think that the director could have done more in this movie, but in the end it this movie still great, because the story is very good and the ending couldn't have been more awesome as it is.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix gets a 8/10

Visual effects and wondrous magical spells - while present of course - definitely take a back seat, and the focus is shifted onto the threats of corruption, power, censorship and the media, as it is revealed that the magical government is unfortunately as crooked as our own.

In one of Rowling's smartest moves, her personification of everything wrong with the education system is delivered in the form of Dolores Umbridge, a character so morally bankrupt and far more threatening than Voldemort himself. Imelda Staunton is almost too good in the role, as the skin crawls and the blood boils every time she steps in front of the camera. The maturing cast continues to improve, with a breath of fresh air provided by Evanna Lynch as Luna, whose comic timing never fails to bring a smile. Also welcome back are Gary Oldman and Emma Thompson, not to mention the intensely threatening Jason Issacs and his fabulous hair.

Though the important themes of the movie come first, the cinematography and the visuals must be congratulated. The pace of the film is somewhat inconsistent, and screenwriter Michael Goldenberg seems to lose his grip on the material at times, which may confuse viewers who haven't read the book. And while the final battle sequence is the most intense and brilliantly shot yet, it seems over far too quickly.

In spite of its few drawbacks, Phoenix is so expertly thought out and put together, and is the first film of the franchise that really forces its Muggle audience to think about their own world.

Worse, the Minister for Magic, Cornelius Fudge, has appointed a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, the duplicitous Professor Dolores Umbridge. But Umbridge's "Ministry-approved" course of defensive magic leaves the young wizards woefully unprepared to defend themselves against the Dark forces threatening them, so at the prompting of his friends Hermione and Ron, Harry is convinced to take matters into his own hands. Meeting secretly with a small group of students who name themselves "Dumbledore's Army", Harry teaches them how to defend themselves against the Dark Arts, preparing the courageous young wizards for the extraordinary battle that lies ahead. Rowling.

Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) is back with his cynical relatives, his cousin ends up being attacked by a dementor and Harry must use his magic to save him. This leads to him getting expelled from Hogwarts school as he performed magic in the presence of a muggle outside of the Wizard world. However, Madeye Moody (Brendan Gleeson) manages to help Harry escape his home and take him back to Hogwarts.

Upon getting there, Harry finally meets up with his friends; Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint), as well as seeing Sirius Black (Gary Oldman) who informs Harry that there might be a war brewing since Voldermort (Ralph Fiennes) has returned.

The events of "The Goblet of Fire" (2005) still haunt Harry as he has recurring nightmares of the night Cedric Diggory (Robert Pattinson) was killed by Voldermort, yet nobody, other than Dumbledore (Michael Gambon) believes Harry. He manages to get out of trouble after Dumbledore defends Harry in a court case since he used magic outside of Hogwarts, but for some reason, Dumbledore seems distant from Harry, not even looking at him, and always walking past him whenever he tries to get his attention. Harry fails to understand this at the moment, but it soon becomes clear later on.

It is also announced that a new professor named Dolores Umbridge (Imelda Staunton) is placed as the new teacher for the Defence Against the Dark Arts, and after Harry quarrels with her, she becomes very quick to judge Harry and punishes him for even thinking that there is a possibility that a former Hogwarts student was killed by the Dark Lord. Ron and Hermione hear about Harry's brutal and unfair punishment from Umbridge, and they urge Harry to tell Dumbledore about this, but for some reason, Harry refuses to even tell, as he assumes that maybe he deserves all of this, or maybe this is just some sign that he must be able to take any form of brutality if he were to go to war with Voldermort.

Harry begins to receive more nightmares as it seems that Voldermort is getting into Harry's head, he does not understand why this is happening, but Professor Snape (Alan Rickman) tries to teach him to control his thoughts and discipline his mind. Things also get worse when Umbridge sets new rules for the school after Dumbledore's absence, which leads Harry, Ron and Hermione to set up their own little club where students can learn to defend themselves against the dark arts. Without Umbridge's knowledge.

'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' is a more steady paced movie, there are moments of dark tension and emotional complications. Director David Yates chooses cleverly how to handle the tone and pacing for this particular story and the cast, once again, manage to commit to their performances, especially Imelda Staunton, who plays the ever so unlikeable Dolores Umbridge.

The battle scenes are small, but they are gripping and dark and at times, haunting. The effectiveness of the mental and inner conflict work well for the title character and what we are about to see in future installments. This is another good chapter of the franchise.

Another flaw is that I am still not a huge fan of Michael Gambon's Dumbledore. He isn't a bad actor, but he doesn't quite fit the bill of Dumbledore, and there were some scenes with him that seemed rather strange. However, putting the flaws aside, we do have a lovely-looking film, with very good special effects, and excellent cinematography. As for the acting, I was impressed. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson are still likable, as is Robbie Coltrane. Alan Rickman is very suave and dour as Snape, but the acting honours do go to Imelda Staunton as Umbridge. I have read the book, and do prefer it, as there was a lot missed out in the film. My favourite scene was the Department of Mysteries scene, because some of that was creepy, with Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix. No one could have done that better. All in all, a lovely looking film, with some flaws in the first half. 8/10 Bethany Cox. Expand

A passage to maturity.

This film is the adaptation of the fifth book in the Harry Potter's saga, written by JK Rowling, and is the first film that was directed by David Yates, the last director to join the franchise, this time to stay. Yates was up to the task: this film is one of the most complex and profound of the saga and have some important psychological developments of the characters, as well as large computerized effects and great moments of action. The film maintains basically unchanged the cast structure of the previous films and, although it ignores some details and passages that other directors would have appreciated, is still very true to the story of the book. Its also necessary to remember that the size of Rowling's books has been gradually increasing, which may explain some of the omissions in the film. It can be said, in fact, that the movie, in a certain way, even surpasses the book.

And so, the saga walks to it's final films, which are increasingly more interesting, more adult, more deep and psychologically complex. A true passage to maturity.

Bueno, y no quiero mencionar a Luna Lovegood, qué maravilla.

It's successful parts really made up for some of the bad screenwriting/editing (ugh, and some of the choices the screenwriter made were total crap) but I loved Umbridge, Luna and Bellatrix--perfectly cast. Even little Ginny was pretty prominent in certain scenes (hint hint). Harry's emotional "growing" is still the centerpiece as in the book. Plot-wise, unless you read the book, you'll have no idea what ground was made as they really don't go that far (or show it anyway) & ironically the "Order of the Phoenix" is largely cut out of the film. The end climax scene in the Ministry is done very well though. I still think PoA might be the better Potter film so far, but OotP is definitely vying for the top. Expand

This is the fifth Potter film, and so anyoen walking int othe theatre is gong to know what they are in store for. Also anyone who has read the book knows the material already, so all we can really rate is the direction and the adaptation of the story. The direction is capable, but at times puzzing with eiditing that is breaknect during important scenes and laxadaisical when languishing on unimportant special effects. (Is it more important to spend 30 seconds on watching the kids make animated paper airplanes, or explaining how Harry feels about Cho in the third act of the film?). The adaptation was also weak, choosing to make the main story of the film about hte rise and fall of Delores Umbridge instead of about the feeling of hopelessness and insecurity at Hogwarts as the students have everything that makes them feel safe systematically stripped away. Harry choosing to form the D.A. and effectively fight BACK is supposed to be a big moment in his character and the story. This is not handled well in the film, I think, and thereby make the whole Order of the Phoenix story into a filler. This was an important chapter to nail, and it's sad that it was mishandled. Especially after how amazing the last two films have been. I'm sad to hear the director will be back again for the next Potter film. Expand

As a result the last 3 books are pretty boring, longwinded, and crucially bereft of new magic and thrills. TOOTP has no central storyline, unless you think that the revelation that Voldemort is back is actually a story in itself. As a result the story is really lacking. True to the last 3 books Harry is crushingly dull - one-note whinging and feeling story for himself all the time. God help us when book 7 comes to the screen. Having a "bleak" or "dark" story doesn't make it better - just bereft of fun. The good news is that the acting from the adults is first rate. Oldman and Staunton are superb. Just a shame we can have more Thewlis, Smith, Gleeson and others. Gambon is great as usual too. The kids aren't too bad. JKR cannot write action scenes at all - they play so much better on screen than on the page. The battle scene at the end is far better than anything JKR has written. The Army practice scenes also have great effects. A better film than I feared since the book is almost unfilmably dull - top effects, good acting, snappy direction and no Quidditch! Expand

As usual, the acting and CGI is decent enough and especially Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint who continue to widen their reputation as decent British actors. The cast once again make the film almost believable and the portrayal as Lord Voldemort is captured perfectly. The plot, though one of the finest in the book series as the teenagers go through dark times as the Death Eaters rise, often misses out explaining key details with the film missing out parts of the book altogether making it hard to follow and hurried. Firstly, for whatever reason, the film was too short, as a result key parts would be ignored in order to make the film giving it a broken plot look. For those who have read the Harry Potter book, the film lives up to a majority of fans expectations with David Yates delivering a realistic, decent experience of the Harry Potter universe, switching between the happy times of Harry Potter series to more dark and sinister plot elements with apparent ease. For once in this film series, these characters felt like real characters and they finally resembled their book counterparts. For once we have a coherent story that doesn't just jump from scene to scene. Finally we have characters who talk and act like real kids.Yes, this is a slower, more character-driven film than past ones (like the book,) but it all builds tension and dramatically builds up to huge action scenes at the end. Supposedly. And that's where director David Yates, unfortunately, dropped the ball. The action scenes at the end, meant to be a huge battle and the big stand of good vs. evil, is entirely ruined in the film. The main characters spend the entire movie preparing for a final battle that lasts...what...2 minutes? Similarly, the fight of 2 powerful wizards also goes by way too quickly and lacks intensity. And the explanations that take place after this big "finale" are probably the quickest and most inadequate in this film series so far, leading up to a tacked on ending. I don't know what happened. The movie was perfect, the last half hour was just entirely ruined. David Yates had better learn how to craft strong action scenes, because he's returning for Half Blood Prince. (Something I was thrilled about until I saw how he ruined the Ministry of Magic scenes.) And will these film people finally get Dumbledore right? He does not yell at students, EVER, and his facial expressions during the big battle at the end didn't fit his character at all. Expand

The first 2 were boring, and the 4th was way to abbreviated for a book with so much going on. It was like Cliffs notes. With "Order" however you get that same painful abbreviation but book 5 itself was a bit drawn out and boring in that it was bloated with superfulous nonsense more than half the time so there is plenty of fat to trim away, leaving the movie as a more focused, sleeker version of the main story. Is it better than the book? No, absolutely not. One of the biggest problems with the "trimming" is that as emotions run high in book 5 and the movie focuses on action and Voldemort (the main story if you will) the emotional build up of Harry's struggle with his destiny and just growing up is lost in the fold leaving you a bit empty by the end, however not nearly as empty as the unimpactful death of Cedric @ the end of "Goblet", so it is an imporvement. The movie cerainly has it high's and low's but I would say "Order" is easily my second favorite of the movie franchise after "Azkaban". Which says alot as "Order" is my least favorite of the books. While it missed key scenes and emphasized plot lines not really that emphasized at the time (such as romance) it did a good job of representing the overall themes of the book and the continuation of the series. For mine, it was too short. Yates tried to make this a kid friendly length but in the process, rushed one of the key moments of the series in the end part. The book also failed to explain the prophesy point and the link between Harry and Voldermort which would explain a lot to people who haven't read the books. However, the movie was well acted, generally well structured and flowed well. It's humor sections and drama sections were well achieved, cinematography and editing were adequate. Ahhh... got to be the only schmuck with a subject line like that for a 'Harry Potter' movie - but think of the intent behind "Joy" and you've captured much of the feeling of the audience's reaction walking out of the latest 'Harry Potter.' Though it's madly efficient and quite often exciting, squeezing in 850 pages of text into the shortest Potter yet, less than 140 minutes, this fifth installment is decidedly more dour and grim than the previous installments. A recurring theme of the past films has been the teamwork that has made Harry, Hermoine and Ron such a formidable trio. The later two take a backseat in this story so that the depiction of Harry's melancholic internal struggle can be front and center. Thankfully, the prevalency of the book's most devious and clever creation, the fascist middle-manager Delores Umbridge, has remained intact. Imelda Staunton, her family name quite appropriate for such a niggling squat character. Gosh, how I adored the emittance of her high-pitched squeal - intended to be friendly...instead such an assault. Also, like always, the film makes grand usage of its exemplary all-star British cast - everyone getting an opportunity to interact within the rich Hogwarts universe. Especially noteworthy are watching Branagh's old flames mug it up under heavy makeup. Never dull, the film flies by... but by the end of a special effects laden climactic battle we realize how unimportant this story in the grand scheme. In effect, I felt a bit used, and my urgent desire to want more from Rowling waned. Expand

This film seems to leave out elements from the book that shocked the reader, which leads to the film being only above average.

It's not advisable to make a movie over three hours long, because after that it's a wee bit too much to watch on one sitting, but ironically three hours of movie isn't quite enough to sum up the plot of a book as long as The Order Of Phoenix. Despite it's length, in many parts it feels like the story is rushed to the next key point, and many aspects of the book (f.ex. quidditch) have been completely dropped off. Because the storytelling in the movie is processing with such fast pace, it may be hard for people who have not read the actual book to follow the quick advancing of the story. You should judge the movie by it's own merits, it is decent work as a visual captivation of the Harry Potter- universe, and a nice supporting view in parallel with the one you yourself have created in your mind while reading the book. As a stand-alone movie experience however, without reading the book, it is merely an average piece of work. Expand

Yes, even worse than Prisoner of Azkaban. But, it was Prisoner of Azkaban that prepared me for future films. Goblet of Fire may have been a very faithful adaptation of the book, but I didn't let my guard down. I knew that there was a good chance that there would be another film that would be rather thin in the loyalty department. Therefore, I was able to enjoy Order of the Phoenix. I'll start with the positives. Like I said, the acting is great; the main 3 had really come into their own at this point. Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes), despite the brief role, is just as diabolical as before. Umbridge (Imelda Staunton) might be the best character in the film, as you will hate her from the get-go. Visually, it is also very impressive. Beautiful, actually. Next, come the complaints. By being thin in the loyalty department I MEAN thin. David Yates condensed a 760 page book into a 139 minute film (shortest in the series if you don't count Deathly Hallows Part 2). This creates a few problems... First of all, the secondary characters get very little screen time. Ginny Weasley actually has about 2 lines in the whole film (although she is in most of it), and she is an important character. A scene that would have been awesome was the Quidditch scene, where Harry punches Malfoy. If they had shown a little more of the Ministry scene (the magical rooms in the department of mysteries), that would have let me give this film at least an 8... maybe a 9. I know that people have complained about the films' lengths, but what's an extra 15 minutes? Expand

Another important thing is the new director, David Yates, who will close this saga, the last being the division of the seventh book. Some dislike it, hated the choice, they argue that the return of Alfonso Cuaron would have been a better choice, do not know the reasons for this has not been done but we agree with that thought. Want to know what to think of it? Wonderful, this means that Harry Potter, even in his fifth film, has the chops to stay in front, with people debating its positive and negative, it just proves the success of the series. The most interesting is that it will continue delighting every fan spread across the planet, each person, like me, who believe that Harry Potter is not just a passing fad, and that is very, very much further. What Order of the Phoenix becomes is an often funny yet extremely dark thrill ride, much unlike its long and drawn out source. The new political themes are handled well, and as always in this series the actors did a phenomenal job. Its climax is also one of the series' best, with a dazzling battle between Dumbeldore and Voldemort amid a hail of shattered glass. In the end, Order of the Phoenix manages to do the impossible and be almost better than the book it was based on. Expand

That was the awesome cliffhanger Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire ended on and story-wise, there were loads of possibilities for the follow-up in the series. However, Order of the Phoenix does not do what one may hope for and zeroes in on its protagonist’s puberty. Since this is a franchise accompanying kids through their full adolescence, it’s only reasonable for writer Michael Goldenberg to give weight to this, I guess, but that didn’t stop me from being quite disenchanted while watching the film. In my opinion, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is not only the second-shortest, but also the second-worst film of the eight and the transition between teenage problems and the real peril emanating from Voldemort’s return just isn’t accomplished very well. A good movie, but that's it.

It's amazing the Order of the Phoenix was supposed to be the best film of the entire franchise, but David Yates made him a just good, cool only.

It is this film that's all wrong, nobody believes Harry, all suspicious of him, he's nervous and Daniel shows this with a great job. Another major development is the actress Evanna Lynch showed that Luna has come to make one of the best characters of the franchise, the other was hit in the cast Helena Bonham Carter who came with everything to Bellatrix Lestrange. Obvious that Yates was not wrong at all, the action scenes are brilliant and very well played, the track is good (at least better than the HP4), the only weak point of the film is the script lacked many scenes, more missed moments Navy, a larger scene in the Ministry of Magic ....

Anyway, between rights and wrongs Order of the Phoenix fulfills its role well.

The fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort is sublime, truly. Dolores Jane Umbridge is identical to the book, I swear, spitefully portrayed exactly as in the book. Intense film but which has some flaws like music, in fact this chapter is the worst from this point of view, and the battle at the Ministry of Magic which turns out to be too, how to say, "cold". As a child I loved this film, now, being able to recognize its flaws, I weighed my judgment and I say 7.

I've never been one to deny it. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is an example of a film that acted as an interpretation and not a flat-out cut-and-paste to screen. The latter is lazy film making. This fifth Harry Potter was rife with choices, but most of them were poor choices. Characters are left underdeveloped, suspense is nowhere and--as opposed to, say, Prisoner of Azkaban--it lacks imagination and the visual verve that should define the series. One might gather that the film's largely expository parts act solely as necessary buildups to some climax and they never act on their own. A film should never, ever, be about the payoff: everything in-between matters just as much as the fireworks finish. And Rowling has a fundamental difficulty with her imagination that I cannot ignore and that I have long wanted to point out. She only plays at knowing her world, but when she hits a creative wall, she inserts some magnificent and magical plot device to move along the action and stir some tension. By that method, she leeches and manipulates us all into believing her world. She did it in Goblet of Fire with the triwizard tournament. Somehow a large maze appeared and there were other massive geographical elements that had heretofore been absent. To me, that's inept storytelling and, in fact, it cheats not only her readers, but her otherwise imaginative self. Now I can understand to an extent because people often rush her creative process along, but the effect is diminished by it and the story's credibility disintegrates evermore because of it. In Order of the Phoenix she added "the Room of Requirement," which I'll refrain from explaining in the interest of people who have yet to see the film--just take my word for it. But most importantly, the characters needed some development to make the themes more potent. The book exceeded 800 pages and clearly that complicates matters. A solution would be to break the film into two parts and release them separately. Ironically, the fifth book was my favorite in the series thus far (the seventh to be completed soon), but the adaptation was my least favorite of all. Expand

When Sirius dies in the book it is one of the saddest parts of all the HP books, and the emotion just didn't come through. Even if you excuse the very slow start, the pacing was way off, and many characters were left just worrying about Harry rather than being developed at all. I place a lot of the blame on the fact that screenwriter Steve Kloves was apparently moved forward to the more important sixth movie, and this movie was put in the hands of "Bed of Roses" and "Contact" screenwriter Michael Goldenberg. The choppy direction by David Yates does little more than attempt to sloppily mimic the two great directors that preceded him. Let's hope for better in the future. I left the theatre for the first time disappointed. Expand

I have read all the books to date and have also seen all the movies (god knows why as most of them have disappointed me) and this Film has to be the second worst. after the third being the worst. ill explain my Views. the third being the worst as the main story of the book was twisted and rearranged into the film it screwed up the book. and this new film disappointed me as it missed out much of the plot and most of all the final battle although may have been ok in the film the Book version is longer and more thrilling therefore 3 times better than the film. on there own the harry potter films are all fairly great but. as some one who has read all the books. they are on the bulk unfaithful and miss seriously important parts of the plot. my advice if your one who loves the films read the books. they are much better. if you have read the books but not watched the films. then don't expect much or if possible avoid the films p.s 4th and 2nd films are the best. that saying the second film missed out a vital part of the story that did not add much to the 2nd film/story b But does explain a lot in the 6th book those of you who don't know what I'm on about its the cupboard in the dark shop that harry ends up in that is in fact a teleporter which leads to another teleporter inside the room of requirements.
