I expected to hate the movie. I went into it knowing the reviews were bad BUT I have to say its the best of this Halloween trilogy. See it as a Halloween 3 - Season of the Witch type movie. Absolutely loved it

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. i just finished watching Halloween Kills and i am taken over by SHOCK. i'm paralyzed, i'm speechless and yet i have so much to say. Oh my God what was that movie??????? For me personally it's one of the best from 2021 so far.
This movie shows a new Michael... same old wickedness, but a new thirst for blood. he was literally killing everything that crossed his way and who survived got hella lucky. He was thirsty for violence and in the MUCH WORSE ways, i swear it's much worse than in the other movies and he was doing much worse in front of someone who was seeing their loved one being tortured to death... i mean that was SO wicked this man is pure evil!!!!! he NEEDS to be taken down. And that part on the hospital where the man killed himself because all these grown ass ignorants were coming after him... the heaviest one in the movie. just WOW. WHAT A MOVIE. what a great job everyone envolved did.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I won't spoil it. But I will say this...the online reviews do not do the movie justice. This is definitely on par with the original and in some ways it is better. Michael Myers is a force to be reckoned with...I can honestly say at age 40 something...I am as scared after watching Halloween Kills as I was at age 7...I didn't expact it to actually be scary. I give it 10 out of 10. Congratulations to everyone in the cast and crew. Well done...Dr Loomis would be proud. Expand

THIS MOVIE KILLS!

Halloween Kills is a worthy sequel to 2018's Halloween. If you are going in expecting a fun and kinda chessey slasher film then this is the movie for you. This movie has kills left, right, up and down, and they are brutal. The acting if fine and the characters are ok, but some are not as developed as others. And there are some people in this movie that are straight up dumb, and that's ok every now and then but it does get annoying after a while. There are two issues I have with this movie. 1. Lorie Strode takes a back seat in this movie and was pretty disappointing. 2. Is there is this sub plot involving an escapee that should not have been in the movie it was very dumb. Other than those two issues everything else was great. The kills, like I said are the series best and there are a lot. And another big win is this movie's score it is thrilling and intense in all the right moments. Near the end of the movie is when everything went nuts and it was a blast. The town comes face to face with Michael and it is epic. Last but not least is the cliffhanger ending that may or may not disappoint some viewers. I liked it though. Overall 85/100

Halloween Kills I know this movie has hate but i do get it only for the kills is really what this movie was which is true but for me when i first watched it I really liked it I seen it three times now but watching it now in 2022 yes I still think this is one of my fav movies from this franchise because of Michael Myers alone well because I watch these movies of Myers when you watch the other ones you don't watch the characters to kill Myers you want Myers killing them is why I like this so much there is like 25+ kills in this I enjoy these side characters a lot as well i don't like they all get killed frustration like whyyy this is the main reason why these movies don't get a lot of love because they struggle to balance the comedy in these movies which shouldn't be in here at all and killing off characters you enjoy to see on screen ughhh but I really enjoyed this movie the score is weaker than the 2018 one but still good to match the movie but all round an killing fest that I like so I give Halloween Kills an A- 92% Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved this movie, people who hate this clearly don't understand anything! Of course it has flaws like any movie but its not BAD if you really think about it. You have three types of people, people who just want to watch any film for a night out so they choose this and then think wtf?, People who are big fans of the movie who don't care what happens like myself, or fans that are picky and it has to be the way its always been, just remember Michael is pissed. I as a big Michael fan enjoyed this especially for Michael, he is such a badass in this film! I don't really care about the story or who dies but what's to tell?, Michael has a reason he's just wanting to go home. When will people learn, its called Kills for a reason and this is the best I've ever seen him. Laurie also isn't the main character and it gave others a chance to get out there with the unknown, they did not know what they were up against. This is the same night remember so its just what's happening, Laurie is not going to just get up and go after him and run around, (she tried but got injured).

People also need to know that yes people may know Michael is dangerous but they don't know what evil is, they just think this guy is a regular man with a silly mask on not knowing his power, which is probably why they have not cut off his head off, Loomis was the only one saying "I shot him 6 times and he walked off", so without him who's going to think of anything? they are the townspeople, a beat down would teach him or stop him right? wrong as Michael gets back up and shows them rightfully who they are messing with (which is the best part, when he puts on the mask, the music kicks in, Michael is clearly ready for this!), in shock you can see on Tommy's face of what he's witnessing. They are obviously going to keep him alive too, not sure why people were surprised, we already know there will be another film, Halloween Ends will be coming out next year duh! I can admit the hospital scenes were not exciting, some dialogue was cringe but overall it had a meaning, I understand what they were trying to do with this film but again Michael in action just distracted me from all that. But what else do you expect them to do with the story? everybody is getting injured/killed and you have this guy out there killing people its making the situation a big mess in the hospital, town. But yes this film was a big wow for me, I couldn't stop thinking about it when I went to sleep, and even went to watch it again, 3 times now! After that I can say the hospital scenes are boring now but it was good for a first time watch. So if you're a Halloween fan, you should defiantly see the movie, so if you hated the hospital, Michael will make up for it! There are way worse Halloween films than this one!

Fact is if I listened to critics then half of the movies that I like that they dont I wouldnt have seen. Halloween Kills is like the Empire Strikes Back in the trilogy in terms of the heroins Laurie and her daughter and granddaughter thinking they got rid of michael myers only for the killer to survive and go on a rampage of revenge. The mob mentality wanting to put a stop to the menacing force that thrives on brutality and murder. I enjoyed it and looking forward to Halloween Ends next year. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie very very brutal. The opening scene with the flashback to 78 was absolutely amazing. When Loomis showed up on the screen I geeked out. Michael Myers in the flashback scenes was spot on. The mask, the movements just overall really loved the flashbacks. Tommy Doyle and Lindsey Wallace were some of my favorite characters. Tommy was such a big part of the movie. Karen really grew on me in this one so it hurt when she died. I loved that Alison and Karen were a big part as Laurie kinda sat back. Only thing I didn’t like was the ending. I loved the scene, it was great, I just don’t thin it it should’ve been the ending. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is a great follow up and middle movie in a trilogy. It's basically the empire strikes back in regards to the conclusion. The bad guy has won and the good guys are down and out for the most part. Anyone complaining about the kill count doesn't get the theme of this movie, this one is about Michael truly showing he is the essence of evil and not to mention he was pissed because he was just set on fire and was "beaten" by Laurie. They do a great job of showing the over confidence of the townspeople which backfires on them badly in the end, just because they have numbers doesn't make it an even fight as you soon see. Wasatch this movie for yourself and keep these things in mind! Expand

8/10.

Definitely the most violent entry in the Halloween films. You could definitely tell this movie was a mid point in the story and setting up the big finale in Halloween Ends. It’s definitely entertaining and a film that would be an easy rewatch.

It fills your need for nostalgia even more and does a great job at doing what a sequel is supposed to do. Build an icon. The only downside to the movie was the wasted time we spend panning to Jamie Lee Curtis that really is excessive at some points. She does have an awesome monologue at the end where she explains the curse of Michael Myers. If you are not a fan of the first two movies (78 & 81), then I can see how this movie would upset people. In Halloween II, Micheal goes to the hospital to finish his job of killing Laurie Strode. In this movie, you expect the same concept, and the movie instead throws a curveball and doesn't send Michael Myers to the hospital this time which is a double edged sword because we spent a lot of time expecting that, and then falling short. But on the flip side it's a twist that really surprising and unexpected, in an age where all thrillers and horror films are all too predictable. Expand

They basically removed the cringe feminism that plagued the end of the last movie and let Michael do his thing. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Unlike the previous Halloween movie it actually had more of a real story and something to say. It felt more like a modern slasher, not just people with personal drama before they get killed.
There was some things I didn't like.
The movie spent too much time trying to convince us viewers that what we had known about the series for 40 years where wrong and that Michael Myers didn't target Laurie Strode and her family on purpose.
There was a line in previous movie establishing that they weren't siblings and she was just a victim but fans didn't accept that so this time they put more effort into convincing us that Laurie didn't matter to the overall story (while still keeping her and her family in center of the story).
They killed a character I really wish they hadn't killed (this movie had a huge cast so it's not a spoiler that people die). There was one old and really tiresome trope I wish they hadn't used involving gay characters.
There was also an old trope about black characters that I felt horror movies should have stopped using years ago.
And there was a sort of twist that made me, as an old fan, role my eyes. It's hard to explain without spoiling but it's something we old fans already know since 40 years back but they treat it like it's this shocking reveal. But other than this, most of the movie was really good. And we got to see an old character that nobody expected to see again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Initial viewing: as a Halloween fanatic, everything about Kills is doubled-edged. The first half of this movie is a total wet dream while the second half is just a tad up its own ass with lofty, unfocused plot direction. The 1978 expansion scene is amazing—although now it will surely give birth to some misguided hope that we would get more of that old charm re-jiggered on-screen again in the future. The firefighting scene was excellent, but for a moment The Shape essentially turns into Bruce Lee swinging sharp things. There are some very worthy “good old Michael” kills, mixed in with a new tendency for crowd melees that is hit (i.e. the firefighter scene) or miss (the final confrontation.) The new brutal Michael contrasts with the younger "strangle-happy" Michael to tell a hidden tale of a psychopath's murderous ways maturing as he gets older and more pissed off... but the overall shift towards blood splatter and visceral kills is another reminder of where this series has been going wrong since the original—even in the most well-meaning hands. I still had great fun with this movie and instantly have it in my top 5, but I also have to recognize that McBride & Green's plans Michael Myers are not as locked into true north as they seemed to be after 2018. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Halloween Kills was good but definitely felt more like filler for what's to come in the next movie. The writing was just not the best, the screenplay was at times pretty cheesy and it was kinda all over the place tonally and with the many different smaller plots with these smaller characters but I do like how they wrote in a lot of characters from the original movie. The kills were pretty well done, I liked how they were still able to come up with unique kills and the makeup and special effects were superb. The performances from Andi Matichak, Judy Greer, Kyle Richards, Jamie Lee Curtis, Dylan Arnold, Anthony Michael Hall, Michael McDonald, Scott MacArthur, Diva Tyler, and Lenny Clarke were excellent. Overall it was a pretty good movie and I'm excited to see how it ends next October. Expand

It's bounds and leaps from the almost perfect film that came before it, and without a single focus to hold on, it's 3rd act stands on wobbly legs. At times the denizens who hunt Michael Myers through the streets of Haddonfield come off as stupid instead of brave and angry, and some of the dialogue sounds hokey, almost ridiculous. It's bloody and nihilistic and tragic, and really, not much else. Regardless of all this, HALLOWEEN KILLS stands as a solid part 2 in David Gordon Green's trilogy, that maybe lacks in some places but **** brings it in others. Excited to see how it all "ends".

There really isn't much of a story here as it largely just deals with the fallout from the ending of the previous film while also setting up the final movie. So don't walk into this expecting much of a plot because you won't get one. What you will get is plenty of satisfying kills and a lot of Michael Myers. That's all I really wanted out of this as it was billed as Michael's revenge and it most certainly delivers in that regard.

Is it as good as the first movie? Well, That all depends on what you are looking for. I appreciate the shorter run-time and the gory kills but it doesn't have the story that really helped elevate the first movie. As a longtime fan, I honestly enjoyed it. It had its flaws but there are far more highs than lows. I think a lot of people will walk away thinking it was one of the better films of the franchise but it is not among the best.

Michael Meyers still isn't dead and is continuing his killing spree on Halloween night, so Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) her daughter and granddaughter (Judy Greer and Andi Matichak respectively), and the rest of their town and several past survivors band together to try and stop him. I really enjoyed the first installment of this rebooted franchise that was released a few years ago, so I was eager to see how it would continue here. And while it's heavy on gore and kills, as is to be expected, it didn't quite have the same draw as the first film had for me. This one felt a lot more soulless and hollow with not as much of a rooting factor for me this time around. In the first film, seeing three generations of Strodes band together at the end to kick Michael Meyers' ass was one of the most satisfying and awesome things I'd seen in a horror flick in years, and there really wasn't a whole lot of that going here with this one. Instead we get a lot of angry mob scenes and our protagonists aren't as near as effective or as strong in this one. It almost feels like this film decided to just go back to what the retconned sequels were all like: soulless and bloody, which is all fine and dandy, considering this is a 'Halloween' film after all, but it's still a little disappointing to see it fall back on old tricks after how refreshing of a turn the previous film took. But on the flipside, Curtis, Greer, and Matichak are in top form here once again and all three give fierce performances. But overall, aside from the solid three lead actresses, this happened to still be fun and certainly had plenty of creative and gory kills, but it does happen to fall back and rely on old habits a little too heavily for my liking. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. And after half a century, here we are again immersed in the town of Haddonfield, where a precocious serial-killer, the iconic Michael Myers, returns to terrorize anyone who comes in front of him: from the little girl, masterfully painted originally by a young Jamie Lee Curtis in the Carpenter's Halloween, down to the children she saved herself, found in this chapter; the latter almost explicitly follows the very first Halloween masterpiece: from the opening credits to the music, always composed by the master of horror, a veteran in this field of action. Laurie Strode therefore finds herself reliving the same nightmare once again: if in the previous chapter, she had tried to set fire to Evil personified, in this chapter, discovering the truth almost after an hour of film, all their hatred returns to vogue , which takes the exponential scale of the hospital, which has become a perfect symbol of schizophrenic society, whose victims become executioners: very touching and well represented is the scene in which one of the mentally ill previously escaped with Michael, and exchanged with him himself in front of the crowd angry in the hospital that follows him, she throws herself out the window, finding peace in suicide; therefore the victims, witness Michael's violence, and almost by mimesis, do violence themselves, giving rise to a cycle and recycling whereby blood draws blood. The film, directorically, takes up the grain of the time, and the stylistic code of the zooms, which, for example, were very fashionable in the 80s: let's think for example of the immortal zoom-ins on the face of Jack Torrence, who in the grip of madness he began to look at himself through the large windows of the Overlook Hotel, so does Michael, as he used to do in his sister's room as a child, observing his own reflection on the window, which in this chapter becomes almost a symbol of the doppelganger, of the split personality , of his own deeply disturbed and sick psyche (another topic dear to Carpenter, see The Ward, the ward). The direction is very dynamic, clean and at the same time dirty at times: the final sequences are memorable where against the light, almost in full German expressionist style, Michael's mask is portrayed in an almost figurative way, distorted by the angle of the shots and by the mass. in the abyss of the background, however, creating real Goya-style paintings. The actors act at times in a too caricatured way: in excellent shape instead is Jamie Lee Curtis, who at times has the semblance of a real tragic mask of the Greek theater, with the mouth downwards and the underlying eyes with eyebrows, which in an exasperated way they accentuate the drama of the face. Extremely good music, almost perfect for any scene: Carpenter, just like wine, ages better and better, which is saying something given his career. The photography follows, as we have said, the progenitors of the horror genre of the twentieth century, making the viewer feel the grain, and those strong lights, referring in part to Suspiria by Dario Argento, a masterpiece of the 70s (also here the role of the woman in horror, who fights with another woman, with the almost absence of male roles). A successful film, at times little studied, but for the most nostalgic, a real entertainment show. Expand

The bad pacing got a little better as the movie progressed, but too many superfluous subplots, none of which serve a purpose; and the whole story comes across as filler material between I and III. Clearly a film made with great passion and love for the original 2 movies. However this this iteration sadly misses all the tension building opportunities instead using quick cut edits and reams of exposition to build an almost fantasy film level of lore for michael myers and as a result the whole thing comes off as a massive budget fan film. Its a real shame as i think with a less ambitious roster of extravagant kills, this really could've been as tense and scary as the carpenter original however the choices made by the direction and editing (and over the top kill after kill) just detached me from feeling, well anything at all. While i found it an entertaining watch, only a very particular nich of audience will be truly statisfied by this movie.

Halloween Kills has committed the terrible sin of all the other sequels in this franchise, and what seemed like an incredibly notorious return, fades into a film that at its worst, never gives reasons to justify its existence.

I really believe it was a massive mistake to pick up the narrative right where the 2018 movie ended, because it took out Laurie Strode off the game.
This in its eagerness to give prominence to the people of Haddonfield, who until now had always been stupid victims in Michael Myers' path.
In this one, they still continue being stupid victims, they just put up a little more resistance.

There are a lot worse things about the Halloween franchise, and that by no means exempts all the glaring flaws in this film, but frankly I didn't find it that horrible either.

I've seen things in the genre that are way worse, and Halloween Kills is merely inconsistent and flawed, which is a shame considering all the expectations it created.

I read negative reviews because of the violence that unfolds on screen, but if you're watching a film about an unstoppable murderer, I think it is ridiculous to complain about it.
It's not that it's justified, its own concept revolves around violence.

Taking into account these results I no longer have any illusions about Halloween Ends, but considering that I just read that that film will have a 4-year time jump, it's fair to intuit that at least it will not be as abrupt and empty as this disappointing sequel.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Much of the plot line felt extremely deluded and unnecessary, with many scenes making little to no sense. Suspension of disbelief was thrown out the window in numerous sections, and you’ll often think to yourself, “this is ridiculous.” Interesting characters from Halloween (2018) feel watered down and honestly downright stupid at times. Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) is barely even present in the film, with only about 15-20 minutes of run time focused on her in the ER. — Let’s hope the 3rd film in this Reboot Trilogy brings the Halloween franchise back to glory, because this surely didn’t. I don't really know what to say. It started off fine and followed the intro with music, which I enjoyed, but then it started to be about nothing in my opinion. This movie just felt so empty to me. For example, if I look at the previous installment from 2018, that one had a plot in my opinion. Here, there is something going on, but it feels so empty, without a purpose. There's even a moment that I thought was pretty overdone. They're still putting the events of the original Halloween movie in here and I don't know, but I just didn't like it and my opinion is that they should have stuck with the 2018 movie and not made a sequel. The only good thing here in my opinion are the scenes with Michael murdering his victims. Those are really good. But the rest of the movie is a misery for me and in the end it is a mediocre movie that I don't recommend. Expand

I have seen all of them several times over and would class this as one of the more middling entries. * Slight Spoilers ahead* Every time they start to go down the supernatural pure evil forces route I lose interest pretty quickly as I find the notion of Michael being simple man and mortal much more compelling. I also noticed that Michael seemed more sadistic in the way that he kills people in this film which seemed out of place with his usual robotic nature. The kills themselves were all great and all you should expect from a slasher movie.
I know a lot of people weren't too fond of the various flashbacks but I personally felt that they added something to the story, especially the first one which obviously fills in a lot of gaps in the narrative. I also personally appreciated the cameo appearances of some of the characters from the original Halloween (78) movie.
All in all I think this entry was a lot weaker than the 2018 entry and I think the decision to go the rote that they chose with the supernatural element spoiled it for me considerably.

I am certainly mixed on this movie. Overall the acting from everyone was good (except for a few characters). I enjoyed the kills and I thought that they picked a good message to go along with what they where trying to do. However I feel thatI am certainly mixed on this movie. Overall the acting from everyone was good (except for a few characters). I enjoyed the kills and I thought that they picked a good message to go along with what they where trying to do. However I feel that they did not do a good job of blending the two together. I also feel that the premise that they had (a town going after a killer) was not utilized to its full potential. In the end, I can't say that I had a bad time with this film but it certainly was not as good or as well put together as its predecessor, Halloween 2018. Expand

this movie isnt scary either but thats fine in my opinion a slasher doesn't need to be scary as long as its entertaining but i cant really describe this as entertaining either since so many of the deaths were so cheap it made it boring to watch because it became very predictable and you could say that about a lot of slashers but this movie takes it to a new level with how predictable it is

En-US It is a generic film in the franchise. Even being a reboot and having several scenes much more current than the other films, the trilogy can't be anything more than "more or less". With endless deaths during the film, we can see that the script follows the same ideology as all the previous films. Myers really be the "evil personification" in the movie as stated in the trailer, but with strange and incomprehensible scenes. The film is just another one in the franchise, always following the same line of death after death without much explanation.

Michael Myers is back! Sadly he is back in a paint by numbers, generic cash in of the Halloween franchise.

Nothing is added to the story of Michael. The kills are nothing special. It's not very scary. You'll watch it once and forget about
