There's too many superhero movies like this. This is not one of them. We loved the movie. We saw it last night, and I haven't stopped thinking about it since. I would gladly go see it again while still in theatres. It is very rare that I ever would want to do that, so that means the movie was good. It was very entertaining. Kept my interest throughout. I thought it had a perfect mix of comedy, action, and drama. I loved the soundtrack. Rocket Racoon's special effects were great. I joked that they must have spent all their money on this because the makeup on some characters was a bit subpar. It looked like they didn't hire enough makeup people and they rushed through certain characters. Makeup aside, this is a very entertaining movie, you should go see it. Just please, don't stay for the scene after the credits, it was so stupid. Everyone else sat and waited, and it was so dumb, there was a huge sigh of "ughhhh" throughout the theatre. Don't waste your time. But the rest of the movie was great (including the scene that happens near the beginning of the ending credits.) Expand

There is literally no way to fault this movie, after seeing it twice I'm ready to go another 2 times at the least. It is perfectly paced with the perfect balance of action and humour. Well-written characters, even when two of the lead roles are CGI it still nails it. It's the most adult Marvel movie to date and some jokes will literally leave you speechless with what they got away with. Complete with locations and cameos for the hardcore fans and a simple enough introduction to the Guardians of the Galaxy for anyone to enjoy. It is simply most fun you will have at the movies in 2014 guaranteed! 10/10 Expand

Simply genius! This movie is a true gem! Very refreshing and nothing short of awesome.

I didn't know much about the movie before going to see it, and even less about the comic books it was inspired from. The trailer left me quite skeptical when I watched it some months ago, same for Bradley Cooper as Rocket the Raccoon. I told myself and my friends: This movie is either gonna fail so hard, or be absolutely amazing. Well... turns out it ended up being the latter.

The characters are all memorable. The dialogues are hilarious. The action is tight and, while there is plenty of it, it never gets old. The movie constantly jumps from jokes into action sequence into joke into emotional moment into action, back to jokes, etc. No dull moment, only awesome developement and scenes.

The music tracks selected are all excellent classics carefully hand-picked to convey a feeling of familarity, goofiness , and joy throughout the whole movie. (I'm actually listening to the soundtrack as I'm typing this ;P )

The characters are all memorable, from the excentric, goofy, yet handsome Starlord (love his outfit, weird jet armor, and guns), to the hilarious and clever Raccoon (which Bradley Cooper absolutely nailed and really impressed me with his performance), to the sexy, yet deadly, Gamora, Groot the humble, gentle, badass tree-thing, Rax the Destroyer (who's supposed to be a brutal badass, but who's actually freaking ridiculously stupid and sympathetic!). The Collector was cool, however we didn't see much of him. Ronan was menacing and a great villain, if somewhat generic. ETC. ETC. ETC. every single character is awesome. Period.

Anyway, I've already written too much. Just go watch this movie, whoever you are, it's a blast from the opening scene to the ending credits. I actually can't wait to watch it again!

Oh, and for those who are wondering. It's worth it to watch it in 3D; the 3D is great. It's not over-the-top distracting, and it's not super subtle, non-existant, like some 'fake' 3D movies. It's real 3D, that works well, and that does add to the movie a bit. No reason to not see it in 3D to be honest.

Memorable, fleshed out characters. Hilarious comedy. Great action scenes. Touching 'human' moments. That isn't even mentioning the flawless CGI and 3D.

Last great summer movie of 2014. Don't miss it.

I could watch this movie over and over again. It had lots of heart and the potential is endless for Guardians of the Galaxy as a franchise, especially in the hands of director James Gunn. Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot all played off of each other very well and made a likeable group of outcasts. Yondu played a nice part as well and I'm glad to see Michael Rooker doing a film like this after departed The Walking Dead. Supporting performances from Lee Pace as Ronan, and the Nova Corps Glenn Close and John C. Reilly added nice touches to the story.

This is the best effort put out thus far by the Marvel Cinematic Universe and worth making repeat viewings. Make sure to stay after the credits for a surprise cameo!

Guardians is the perfect movie for a good time. The action is well choreographed, the jokes spot on, and emotional element is subtle but poignant. The only complaint I could make is about a needle controlled by whistle. But as a fan of the IP and the characters, I couldn't be happier. Expand

I'm very happy to say this movie not only surpassed my expectations, but it blew me away. The comedy is spot on, all characters have amazing timing and genuinely funny and unique personalities. Chris Pratt is hilarious and a natural leading man, charming, funny, and pretty damn badass as he goes from a Han Solo type to a true Marvel superhero, worthy of the name Star-Lord.
I brought along my wife and another couple to this movie. My friend's wife was pretty sure she'd be falling asleep during this one, as it's definitely not in her genre (she generally likes movies based on Jane Austen novels). I was glad to see that everybody in my group was thoroughly entertained by this film. It's got great action, a very cool story (I don't know why on Earth some critics would call the plot confusing, it isn't), amazing characters that you can't help but love and care about, and more laughs than most comedies contain.
This is the first movie in a long time that had me quoting the lines as I left the theater. I actually wanted to see it again right away, and will definitely, definitely get it on Blu-Ray. Best movie I've seen all year, and as close to a perfect Summer movie as anyone could ask for.

Incredibly witty yet scruffy with amazing style that doesn't follow any superhero formula, it is near impossible to dislike Guardians of the Galaxy. Classic soundtracks oddly fit the cosmic saga, giving it grounded and slightly nostalgic feeling. This may very well be the Star Wars of this generation.

This adventure of ragged uncommon crew has a unique light tone, almost resembling morning children cartoon or video game. The humor is spot-on, cleverly written and personalized the characters better than dull gloomy distress most fantasy movies opt for. While the dysfunctional team has its issues, they are delivered with ease, discarding any cumbersome drama and replacing them with accessible comedy.

Chris Pratt is an excellent choice for Peter Quill. He is a good example of ruffian with somewhat noble heart, and Chris Pratt hasn't been too fixed on a protagonist image. It works well since Pratt could be your usual hero, but more importantly he brings great unsuspected humor. His character serves as anchor for humanity, because even though the tale happens in gigantic other realm, Quill is often shown as mere human and this aspect will definitely resonate with the audience.

Zoe Saldana as Gamora is now green skinned. After Avatar and Star Trek it’s safe to say that she possesses the exotic alien look. As a veteran of sci-fi genre, she carries herself comfortably and quite believably as action persona. Her character is indeed a peculiar love interest for Quill, but deep down it’s more a search for companionship rather than romance. Dave Bautista as Drak hasn’t got much experience in acting yet, still this character suits him and with a compliment of good cast, he probably has the better role any pro wrestlers have had in recent time.

Groot and Rocket are both CGI. Rocket, voiced by Bradley Cooper, is the heart of the movie. He’s a strange mix of raccoon and mercenary, a bit broken and still eloquently funny. Vin Diesel voices Groot, ironic that most of his roles are tough guys but as a gullible and vocabulary challenged tree that he delivers his better work. Aside from these two, CGI also covers the vistas and expected laser shooting futuristic action.

Design for the setting is great, often depicting places like those in video games. The splendor of debris and explosive accompanies the movie, it’s undeniably a good spectacle and top tier for blockbuster. The director James Gunn delivers a good continuation of scenes, humorous line and constant pace. Soundtracks from classic 80s music is gold, the contrast works much better than any techno tune could possible do.

Guardians of Galaxy is a rare movie that keeps its audience fully entertained, it doesn’t let up, if fact it gets better as it progresses. It’s a heartfelt and genuine effort to connect with audience. When it ends, it gives a warm fuzzy feeling as one leaves the cinema. It is no less than an utter cinematic achievement.

Science Fiction is my favorite genre, but I've never been a fan of superheroes, and in fact, ten years ago I would never have even considered seeing a film like Guardians of The Galaxy. On the surface, this looks like a kids movie, but thanks to some fantastic writing and Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), as interesting a character as you will ever meet, Guardians of The Galaxy is Science Fiction at it's best. Quill is a thief, nothing more, nothing less. He is hired to steal something and does it the same way he's done hundreds of times before, only this time, there are a bunch of other people trying to take it from him. Quill will come to learn that the item is so very valuable because it is a nearly unstoppable weapon, that the worst men in the universe will stop at nothing to possess. Together with the other renegades, Quill decides the best thing to do is to stop these men and make sure the item is never able to be taken again. Chris Pratt stars and gives the performance of a lifetime. I remember first seeing Pratt in the show Everwood, and thinking that this guy has no personality, amazing how things have changed. Finally able to be himself, Pratt shows that his personality is larger than life itself, and twice now in his young career, he has turned that gift into two of the best characters I've seen in years. Paired with some of Hollywood's brightest young stars, an incredible team of writers, and special effects that are out of this world, Guardians of The Galaxy had all the tools it needed to become the companies biggest earner. This is a film that a lot of people are never going to think of as anything more than a comic book turned into a film for children, but it is so much more than that. From the music to the storyline, to the stars themselves, this film has something for everyone, it was my top film pick of 2014, a must see movie, and something that any true fan of cinema shouldn't miss. Definitely the funniest marvel movie I've seen so far, though very different than what they've been doing. It's an ensemble sci-fi adventure comedy with clever dialogue and a memorable cast of characters. Similar group dynamic to what we saw in the avengers, made all the more impressive by the fact that they haven't had several movies to introduce the characters.
It has very little to do with the avengers specifically and instead widens the lens to encompass the greater marvel universe, making use of characters and alien races we've seen bits and pieces of before (most notably in the Thor films). The tone is very unique, bouncing effortlessly back and forth between comedy and genuine drama with an array of action scenes in a wide variety of set pieces.
If you've been following the marvel movies so far, you'll want to see this since it helps to expand the cinematic universe while setting the stage for the future avengers films (though in some ways it feels like it's setting up Avengers 3 more than 2). On the other hand, if you haven't been following the franchise very consistently or not at all, it still works as an adventure movie. The main characters have little or nothing to do with any of the movies so far, and while there are one or two faces we've seen before, especially in the villain department, you won't need to know them to be able to enjoy it. There's an important macguffin that ties into the larger story, but it's basically just there to drive the plot along. If anyone has been living in a cave somewhere for the past ten years or so, I'd be interested to hear what someone who hasn't watched any of the marvel movies thought of this.

While not exactly original in terms of plot or themes, the way this film has been put together makes this the MUST-SEE superhero movie of the summer. Much, much better than I anticipated, and already thought it would be a good movie going into it. The characters are quirky, interesting, and best of all lovable. The usual fun banter and chemistry between all the cast that is typical of Marvel movies nowadays is present. While it definitely put a lot more emphasis on being funny, this movie doesn't skimp on the action, though admittedly some of the sequences could have been better. Stunning visual effects are par for the course nowadays for these superhero movies, and this movie is no exception. Overall, I'm planning to see it again this weekend, along with a lot of other people it seems.

The film starts out with Peter Quill " Starlord" played by Chris Pratt who finds a orb that holds the destiny of the universe as we know it. He soon gets caught by men of Ronan The Accuser played by Lee Pace. Peter soon finds himself in a prison with four others Rocket Racoon played by Bradley Cooper, Groot played by Vin Diesel, Gamora played by Zoe Saldana and Drax the Destroyer played by Dave Bauista. The film then takes a journey to find and contain the orb before Ronan destroys the galaxy. Great voice acting, action and comedy make this film a blast to watch. This film cannot be missed. Director James Gunn treats his material seriously and elegantly. With great music, such as Hooked On A Feeling by Blue Swede being top on the ITunes list. The 80's vibe is great with music jarring throughout the movie. With great extras by Bencio Del Toro as the Collector and a great after credits scene. Must watch. Expand

Excellent movie. Lots of fun. Jame Gunn and the cast did a great job taking an obscure comic book team and turning them into box office gold. Will see again.

In Gunn’s indie filmmaker hands, he did an excellent job with capturing the old comics and bringing them to life with this film. We get a Marvel film that is deliciously witty and off-beat, keeping the movie flowing with ease between happy; entertainingly hilarious parts and emotional, heart-breaking parts. All of those amazing qualities emit from the five characters that serve as our band of misfit heroes, with actors that were casted with perfection for their respectable roles. With all that said, this movie is truly a remarkable masterpiece of everything that you would want from a Marvel movie; that should be enjoyed by everyone. 5 Big Stars!!! Expand

I felt everything pieced together well with it's comedy, action, visual display all getting in to the mix and executed wonderfully. The voice acting and acting of the actors captured my attention throughout, wanting to learn and feel more for these characters. Not the best movie plot as I would have expected from any Marvel films, in especially this year's X-Men : Days of Future Past which IMO was overrated and The Amazing Spider man 2 a major bore from it's continuation but Guardians of the Galaxy takes my adulation, an enjoyable film from the minute to the last! I waited about a week and saw it again. I enjoyed it even more. Now it has been almost a week since then and not only do I want to see it again, but my thoughts on the movie have only improved since I first saw it. I still can't completely decide if this is the best Marvel movie or second best next to the original Iron Man. I just can't come up with many flaws for this movie.
The chemistry is top notch between the characters even more so than Avengers. This movie was also much more funny than any of the comedies I have seen this year. Couple that with amazing action and special effects and you have a grand slam of a movie. I have never not wanted a movie to end so bad. This might have been the most fun I have had at a movie ever.
One of the most intergral parts of the movie was the soundtrack which had no original songs on it. This is not a complaint, no, no, far from it. I immediately wanted to listen to the classic tracks from the 70's on a cassette player no less right when I left the theater. Don't be surprised if old orange foam headphones start selling like crazy.
The wait for Guardians of the Galaxy will be excruciating. I used to not be able to wait for Avengers 2, but this has surpassed anything that Avengers ever gave me. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is now my most anticipated movie for the next few years.

After all I was set in space with all new character we have to learn about, as well as how they meet and then have them do something heroic. I thought it would feel rushed like if the Avengers had to explain each character origins instead of having all of Phase 1 to do that. Clearly my prediction was wrong as it is so perfect it is hard to explain why. It's a story about a group of relatively unknown character set in a relatively unknown setting and is so brilliant for it's ability for the character to run around and not bother with explanations except for one small part in the middle of the movie but it never loses the fast paced story and action. It doesn't have the super awesome super hero fight scenes of The Winter Solider but fills the gap with some awesome star-ship battles and the music which proves that old 70-80s songs can be better than having music the likes of Star Wars. The character are a ragtag band of misfits who take steps to make the film not take it self seriously at some points. But I think the treasure is the fact it made Chris Pratt, a talking raccoon, a green skinned assassin, a walking tree, and a alien maniac look like the coolest people in the universe. Expand

Judging by this movie, he would have made Jar Jar cool. Fast, fun, and charming, "Guardians of the Galaxy" revives the pleasures of 70's and 80's blockbusters that had been buried in a quagmire CG in the leaden coffins of dull writing. Unlike in "Dawn of the Apes," the live actors are just as good as the animated ones (and all are awesome.) Vividly colored, packed with Easter eggs (scandalous, delicious visual quotes from all those 70s and 80s movies), overflowing with jokes, and trickling with two or three tears, it should also give a shot in the arm to Marvel, whose post-"Avengers" features have felt a tad pretentious and morose. James Gunn can fix that. (Disney should also give him a Star Wars or two to keep him busy.) He's not the old Lucas. He is the new Howard Hawks. Expand

Went in with high expectations based on the trailers and buzz surrounding the movie and for the first time in a long while I left feeling that they had been exceeded and then some. The film is a brilliant mix of compelling characters, solid acting and amazing production. Chris Pratt is absolutely perfect as Star Lord. It's great to see him on the big screen in comparison to his character Andy in Parks & Recreation. I think one of the main reasons the film has done so well is the well balanced addition of off-beat humour, something which isn't a common thread in Marvel comic book movies to date. Definitely worth seeing - ignore these idiots giving it a zero - they are just desperately seeking some attention! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So we see a flashback to late 80's of a little boy in a waiting room with a Walkman listening to a mixtape from his mother who is in the next room dying from cancer. The little boy is Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) who later grows up to be the self proclaimed Star Lord , we see the boy was called into the hospital room to say goodbye to his mother she gives him a gift (which later is very important ) and offers her hand to him , but before he can take her hand she dies, he is then ushered from the room by grieving family , understandably distraught he runs from the hospital room only be abducted by a spaceship piloted by an alien Yondu (Michael Roofer) . Fast forward 30 years to the present and Peter Quill/Star Lord is free spirited wanderer, space cowboy, womanizer (think Han Solo only goofier) who surfs the galaxy looking for treasure to steal and turn for a profit, he stumbles onto an orb that is wanted by a bad guy named Ronin ( Lee Pace) who wants it's to destroy and rule worlds across the galaxy, you know the usual bad guy stuff. He makes a deal with overlord major baddie Thanos (voiced by Josh Brolin) to help him destroy a planet but all Thanos wants is the rock (kinda like Kobe Bryant) , Ronan receives both of Thanos daughters Nebula (Karen Gillian) & Gamora (a sexy Zoe Saldana ) the latter who may have ulterior motives to help him retrieve the Orb , Star Lord is captured trying to steal the powerful orb which is later revealed to be extremely powerful, The rest of the G.O.G Team is Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper) a psychotic bio-engineered rodent with quick wit and trigger finger , he has most of the funny lines and scenes, Draxx the destroyer (Dave Bautista) basically a simple minded brute looking for revenge for his family's murder by the hands of Ronin , Groot (Voiced by Vin Diesel) a tree/enforcer with a lot of hurt but a limited vocabulary , these reluctant Heroes when thrown in prison together band together for the greater good of alien-kind. The whole team has their moments to shine individually, but this is easily the most funny , epic , heartwarming , movie of the year I can't wait to see Guardians 2! Good job Marvel with all that character development in two hours which is not easy, neither is that epic dance off. This is the Star Wars for the 21st century. Two Geek thumbs wayyyyy up !

Chris Pratt as Peter Quill was superb,he was funny ,witty, idiotic at times, but in the end he was the movie's lead protagonist and he delivered the best of his charisma and charm on the screen.Zoe Saldana was a total badass and a very intresting addition being an assassin for the evil Thanos and Ronan ,she was hard to understand at first, but once she opens up it's quite touching and relatable.Dave Bautista, the recently fighter-turned-actor put a very good performance as Drax, his acting rivaled Dwayne Johnson's,sure his backstory was kinda cliche but in the end he comes off just as great as everyone else.Vin Diesel as Groot ,was the second best character in the group ,he only says 3 words: I AM GROOT,yet everytime he sais it ,he means different things which makes the guy, hilarious ,strong and badass. Now people say Rocket is the best character in the movie ,that when they looked at him and heard him they didn't see cgi ,they saw the most heartful, smart, lonely ,cute badass racoon ,thanks to Bradley Cooper, they didn't lie he is the best character i saw all year,he is THAT good. The villain Ronan, played wonderfully by Lee Pace, was also very memorable and threatning bad guy,he is Thanos's right hand man and he has every feature that makes a perfect villain, strong, powerful, edgy, and he also has the best villain costume design in MCU.But the real treat and the best aspect is how guardians relationship starts out and develops over the course of the movie ,they become friends ,who are willing to sacrifice themselves for each-other,and it is truly heart warming to see them all come together so well on screen ,i would even go as far as to say,i prefer them more than the avengers, and i don't even know them from comics. That says something.

Now this is writer, director james Gunn's first BIG,BRASH,summer blockbuster movie,so you must think he wouldn't be able to handle the explosive ,fast ,intense, cosmic action well, but he did absolutely as good of a job as any other director of marvel movies, seriously on par with Joss Whedon. The action is filled with stunning flying space battles, greatly choreographed fight scenes especially with Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana, the effects are among the best and 3D is just a huge visual eye candy, but when the entire team joins up with motivational speeches(under the song of cherry bomb by runaways)it is simply a marvel and awe-inspiring,as they head into battle you feel very confident for them but also very worried because of the characters' depth.

In the end Guardians of the galaxy delivers on expectations ,lives up to the hype and then some, with the best cast ever assembled, superb direction by a talented director, hilarious comedy and well-written camraderie ,this is the ultimate team that will be remembered for centuries, alongside the movie that not only raised the bar for space-adventure movies but for marvel movies as well.SIMPLY PUT .........A MASTERPIECE.

Funny, charming, action, danger, love, ans amazing special effects. All of this describes Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy. Staying true to the comics, yet new, this is an instant classic in the Marvel movie library, up there with The Avengers.

As you watch the movie, you can be connected with the characters as they develop before your eyes. Each character, important or less, is developed with care and with the right pacing. The comedy is well timed and easily understandable for most people. The universe is vast, but never overwhelming, allowing deep immersion. The tools, ships and beings can be connected to our world in a way that is both believable and imaginative. Most of all, the sound track is on cue, setting mode perfectly to the scene it is partnered with. This movie is a prime example of a good summer blockbuster. Expand

I hate to keep giving high review scores but let me clarify, I only review things I love.

AND I FREEKING LOVED THIS MOVIE!

If I listed every scene I loved from this film I would be listing nearly every scene. To be honest I felt a few of the action scenes where a bit choppy and had to many fast cuts but A, that's personal preference and B, when you enjoy a movie this much, things like that seem like niggling issues.

The group dynamic in this movie is easily on par with the avengers and they didn't have individual movies to set up each character. This movie is a fresh of breath air, it is like the Anti Marvel movie, it simultaneously delivers everything you expect from a marvel movie (great action, over the top set pieces, excellent special effects) but delivers so much more.

This movie is one of the funniest blockbusters of recent memory not just compared to other marvel films, the pacing timing and acting from everyone involved is spot on.
But more then that this film has real heart, Nearly made me tear up a couple of times which I really didn't expect. The cast coalesce from a disparate group of misfits in to feeling like a family.

Gunn does a fantastic job of making you care for the characters and subtly subverting expectations, Ronan’s big finale being a prime example that you will instantly understand what I mean when you see it.

All of the main cast where excellent, Chris Pratt exudes such easy charm and confidence that he deserves to be called the new Han Solo, Zoe Saldona as Gamora manages to pull hidden strength from probably the most under used of the main cast and gets one of the funniest lines in the film (Kevin Bacon! I say no more).

Bradley cooper brings such vicious life and subtle humour to the angry, crazy, and tragic Rocket and has one of the most heart breaking moments in the whole movie.
A lot has been said about Vin diesel and his 1000 times of recording Groot's only Three lines (I AM GROOT) But let me be clear, I have never seen (or heard) an actor pull so much subtlety and emotion out of three words. Every time he says I AM GROOT it feels different and like it has real hidden meaning behind it (which makes sense, as Vin said his version of the script had pages and pages of what Groot was actually saying) and it really shows.
Just to clarify the relationship between Rocket and Groot is probably the strongest element of the film and both of them work perfectly, both Bradley Cooper and Vin diesel give Outstanding vocal performances. However, I feel the Special effects team deserve a special shout out, they did such a fantastic job of bringing them to life and making them seem like real believable living creatures when they could have easily ended up being ridiculous.

As much as I love Groot and Rocket I think this films real Hidden gem is Dave Bautista As Drax the Destroyer, The trailers for this film really didn’t show you a lot of Drax but let me tell you he is fantastic. I think why I love him is that he is everything you expect, brutal, quick tempered and hell bent on Revenge, but Bautista (and the script writers) infuse him with such a sly intelligence that often belies his appearance. Drax constantly surprised me with often incisive and intelligent comments and a surprising amount of heart and compassion for a brutal killing machine. Also Drax (minor spoiler ahead, but I’m sure you will have heard this before) comes from a Planet whose inhabitant’s are completely Literal minded and therefore have no understanding of metaphor or symbolism. And Gunn as director and the Bautista and the rest of the cast milk every ounce of potential humour out of it.

Whilst this may be a little more risky then most marvel movies with more instances of bad language then any other Marvel Movie (mostly hecks, damns, **** and the occasional Prick) and a few near the knuckle jokes it remains an hugely enjoyable film that the whole family can enjoy.

What you will really take away from this film, is the real sense of honour, family and heartfelt goodness that Gunn manages to pull out of this disparate bunch of thieves, thugs, murderers and Maniac’s.
The fact that Gunn manages to do so in a way that feels natural and not at all forced like a lot of other films is a real triumph, Guardians will make you laugh, it might make you cry, it will certainly make you care more about the protagonists then many block busters have ever achieved.
I don’t know if this is better then Avengers Assemble but it is at least on par and definitely funnier and more genuinely touching, With guardians 2 already confirmed Joss Whedon has some serious competition as best director in the MCU.

Lastly as a closing note, it may seem that I have given the villain’s short shrift here and I suppose I have but the reason is that whilst the villains in this film give perfectly solid and respectable performance and certainly drive the narrative forward this isn’t really there film, this film belongs to the guardian’s.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a marvel movie like no other. Most marvel movies have action with a bit of comedy; this movie is a comedy with a lot of action. The CGI is very beautiful and feels real, and casting for this movie couldn't have been better, from Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, to Vin Diesel as the giant Groot. The fights will leave you so far on the edge of your seat that the chair will be irrelevant, and the jokes will make you laugh hard and fall on the floor.

Overall: 10/10
Probably one of the best Marvel movies you'll see. Go watch the movie while you can!

It even beats Iron Man series, provided the fact that I really like Iron Man, as it was the movie that made the wheels spinning ( RDJ will be alwys my favourite ). Every actor in Guardians of the Galaxy did an awesome job portraying their character. The movie itself was a lot of fun, I was either laughing or smiling at least 60% of the time, which is good because you have to balance the serious and the fun aspect. Overall the movie is brilliant. The Short Verdict: A Marvel film that takes the franchise in a total different direction. Hilarious, fresh, nostalgic soundtrack-wise and unmissable.
>
Related Media: There are comics based on this group of heroes a few decades ago but I read that the comics are not that good. The heroes featured in the comics are also not the five in the film.
>
What’s it like? A human man, a green female alien, a pink male alien with scarred skin, a cybernetic racoon and an anthropomorphised tree must put their differences aside to team up to defeat an alien bent on revenge. Just like the Marvel’s Avengers story then… The story is fun, hilarious and fresh, the soundtrack is nostalgic and the action scenes are well done. >
Pros:
> 1. It is great to have the Marvel franchise go in a new direction and come up with fun new characters that most people have not heard of. >
2. The story is fun and hilarious. >
3. The soundtrack consists of several popular songs from the 70s and 80s that were very nicely placed in the film. >
Cons: >
1. It was slightly poorer towards the end. Only slightly though. >
How would the different age groups rate it?
Children: Excellent
Teenagers: Excellent
Young adults: Excellent
Medium age adults: Excellent
Old adults: Good
>
5/5 (No half scores) - Good enough to watch it in the cinema and to buy the DVD.

As it turns out, this was a fresh new banana that was a little green on the outside but still quite tasty on the inside.

I have very little experience with this Marvel series of comics. I can’t say whether the film is true to the comics or not. And, I don’t care. This is a well made film that will appeal to a wide audience. It is fast, fun, and fantastic.

The formula for this film as my son Nolan also pointed out, runs parallel to the epic Avengers movie of a few years ago. That film however had all of its characters established in an impressive run of eight movies. This film had no such introduction. Yet it did have one thing on the Avengers; the opening scene introducing the main character and setting the tone for the entire film. This opening sequence may very well be the best of any of the Marvel films. Now let’s not forget that the opening scene for the Avengers features Natasha Romanov taking a call from Coulsen during an “interrogation” and in its own right is one of the best ever. But it did not tell us anything about the movie we were about to watch. It showed us that Scarlett Johanssen can pull off bad ass and look great doing it. It gave us insight into her character and it was brilliant. But Guardians’ simple and fun opening told a lifetime of tales about our “hero” to be in the short span of a few minutes.

We start in 1988 when Peter is just a boy in a somewhat dramatic scene (no spoilers here) and quickly cut to 26 years later and a now grown Peter in a scene that is part ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ and part ‘Risky Business’. The music and the action drives home the core value of our protagonist as well as any opening sequence in any of Marvel's other feature films.

The opening is followed by 120 minutes of fun. This movie moves at a fast pace, maybe a touch too fast at times, but never to an overly frenzied spectacle. In a very short period of time we are introduced to a full cast of “heroes” and director, James Gunn manages to give us characters we can feel. This is no easy task and many a good movie has failed to properly develop characters in this kind of group setup.

Marvel has always done a great job of injecting humor into the sometimes dark themes that permeate the super hero versus super villain dichotomy of this genre. Guardians manages to be a genuinely funny movie from start to finish. This story never really takes itself too seriously and that is what makes it so darn good. Fantastic Four (2005) offered similar 'smart-alec' humor like this film.

Our main character is absolutely lovable and pretty tough in pinch. At the end we are given a hint that he is more than he appears to be, and you will of course want to stay all the way to end of the credits to find a most peculiar revelation that may foreshadow the return to the silver screen of a quirky character you never would have guessed.

This is one of Marvel's best efforts. Yes, it is that good. You need to go see it, right now!
