+ Amazing visuals.
+ Good action sequences.
+ Baby Groot is very cute.

Negative
- The main villain looses his recognizable face, making it harder for the viewer to feel him as the bad guy.
- Yondu's arrow is much too powerful, a way to solve any difficult situation. Feels almost like cheating.

Great movie. Might not be as big as the first but still very entertaining.

"I'm Mary Poppins y'all"

This is just insane and I love it.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is so far Marvel's funniest and touching movie to date. With it's humor being more dry, weird, and visually pleasing to the eyes. James Gunn takes key elements of the first movie that we love and expands on it. The opening credits is more grand and the Skittles-like color palettes is off the roof here. I think Gunn's directing/writing is much stronger here, as he can work freely without any studious interference.

Honestly, I don't understand the mix feedback this is getting. Not as good as the first, but it's still a good movie. At least this was more memorable and joyful than "Civil War".

"Vols. 2" goes more in depth with these characters and give them arcs which later get payoffs. Exploring their broken pasts and flaws. Giving a richer understanding to these characters. That's why they so intriguing to watch, just for their weird & nonhuman personalities, yet feel the most human to us.

The performances from everyone were all fantastic. The comedic timing and deliver was all spot on. But my favorite character/performance was Michael Rooker as Yondou. For years I always thought Rooker was a great actor and in this he really shines. Having more character development and screen time than the last movie.

And I can't believe I'm actually going to say this, but Marvel finally got it right with it's villain. The thing I've been criticizing for years has finally hit it's bullseye. However, I can't go much into the villain without spoiling major plot points. Still, the villain was interesting and caused a lot of harm, not from mass destruction, but emotional harm to are heroes.

Uninformatively this goes into my problems I had with the movie. The film is a bit predicable, which you see things coming a mile away. Then again, despite being obvious of what's going to happen, it still got a reaction out of me.

The movie has some tone issues. Every time the film gets serious or sad, it quickly cuts to a comedic joke. I'm not saying the movie should be serious or anything. My problem is when you get so into the emotional scenes, but gets deflated before your eyes start linking water. Basically stopping me from having an emotional reaction and it got annoying after awhile.

And I didn't think the Awesome Mix tracklist isn't as strong as the first one. I liked the songs in this, especially the one at the end. I mean, at least it actually fits in with the comedic and dramatic scenes.

Overall rating: While "Guardians 2" has it's messy elements, but has its heart in right place and that's what matters. A dazzling adventure with dynamic action sequences from these likable characters. Oh and some of the best one liners in any other Marvel movie ever.

Vol.3 is gonna be some weird ****

This is only a partial review as I've only made it one hour in before turning it off.

Guardians tries hard to be funny, and due to its formulaic nature, fails spectacularly at doing so. Along with that artificial attempt, the plot feels like one contrived instance after another that only exists to hit some predetermined plot points. The whole thing seems like a child was given a huge budget and told to make something hip that the youngsters would like.

It's even funnier for starters, more colorful and eclectic, but more importantly it has a more character-driven plot -- everyone is given something to do and each individual sub-plot is special in its own way.

Yondu comes out of nowhere to steal the show from everyone else. Michael Rooker does a lot with a single posture and look (see -- him standing in the brothel window) that helps to solidify his place within this Galaxy as more than just another aspect of the plot. And of course his Mary Poppins line absolutely killed.

It's pretty amazing how big this cast gets here, and how the film somehow finds a way of balancing every storyline. I think a lack of a big special effects driven middle helped out a bunch there, and made the ending battle that much more special -- for once it mattered and didn't just feel like another inevitable step on the boilerplate template.

Some of the criticism I've heard surrounding this movie, especially from what I would have considered "hardcore" fans of the original, has to do with how this one just felt like an "episode" and that it didn't matter in the grand scheme of things. I took that mean -- oh no there were character archs and personal growth and the MCU and its Infinity War wasn't furthered in any substantial way. Does anyone really care that much? These characters have solidified themselves so much more in the canon of this universe. And these people also love "Star Wars", and you know, every one of those is an episode and the second part of that is mostly character so...man I really hope that isn't the consensus on this one.

-Felt like this movie at points was too cheesy at some points

Conclusion:
If you loved the first movie and go into this one with an open mind, you will probably love this one too. This is a rare movie that will appeal to people of all ages. In yet another summer full of sequels, this one is actually worth seeing.

ItThe first Guardians of the Galaxy had the perfect mix of humor and grounded storytelling that made it feel human and believable. This sequel leans more on the comedy side of things, going for a more ridiculous and outright cartoonish tone. It loses a lot of the original's magic as a result. That being said, there's still plenty of enjoyment to be had here. The main issue with the movie is that the plot is so much weaker than anything the MCU has done in quite some time. Until the explosive, action-packed, and pretty emotional final act arrives the movie tends to sort of meander about with no clear idea of what it wants to be as James Gunn constantly moves from joke to joke. The humor itself is still largely funny, but a lot of it is surprisingly hit or miss. Gunn often tries to go with too many different styles of comedy. He tries to do too much and ends up doing not enough. The writing does succeed with the character Nebula though. Her arc is both the most emotional and the most compelling. It was what kept me most engaged in what was actually happening.

In an effort to make things bigger, better, and most obviously funnier the key elements that made the first such a treat and a breath of fresh air for the MCU get lost in the process. Even still though it is a lot of fun to revisit the great cast of characters and listen to their banter even if their conflict doesn't get interesting (or even arrive) until the final act.

I didn't feel like this one had the special quality that made the first one much more then a superhero movie and more of a good time. These days I can barely sit through a superhero movie without hating it if it's just run of the mill like this one turned out to be. That's not to say it's bad but I expected a bit more from the GotG crew here. It just felt like they were going through the motions here to get this up and done as quick as possible before the massive Avengers movie comes out. I expected a bit more from GotG because it felt different from the rest of the Marvel universe. Instead this turned out to be a fairly bland time. I'd prob still recommend watching it but those who love the first one will be very disappointed like I was. Expand

In 2014, the Marvel Studios original came out of obscurity to set box office records, introducing fans to a cast of heroes who aren't exactly your typical superheroes. Combining amazing special effects and comedy, the film quickly gained a cult following and critical acclaim, but can they defeat the biggest enemy of all, the curse of the sequel? The Guardians are back doing what they do best, with a new enemy on their tail, when they crash land on an uninhabited planet. Their rescuer comes in a form of a man who seems too good to be true, is he really there to help them or does he have something else in mind? The story in volume two is not as good as the first one, that was to be expected, but luckily it isn't far off. The characters are the same and this time they know each other a whole lot better, meaning the chemistry is better, the humor comes more quickly, and the magic is still there. Once again Chris Pratt is outstanding, it's still hard to believe he went from the annoying jock on Everwood to this charismatic megastar. The rest of the cast is also on it's game and we learn much more about the characters then we did in the first film. While not being as strong story wise, this film certainly hits closer to home, and everything is amped up from the special effects to the humor and even the soundtrack. I love these films and I hope there are a lot more of them, however I'd be remiss in not sharing my thought that something this good, especially with how the story evolves in the second film, is better suited for a weekly TV series than at most a handful of feature films. The Bottom Line, if you liked the first one, you'll love the second one. Expand

However, the plot is too dragged out with some weird tonal shifts, the music and comedy isn't as well integrated as the first film, and although it attempts to take risks, the film, like so many MCU movies, fails to have many stakes (I won't give the big risk away though). Overall, the film is okay, but wanes in comparison to the first as it hits the notes it needs to, but doesn't do much more than that. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A bit goofy and uneven at times but very funny. The Rocket and Yondu scenes are probably the best. Drax and Mantis were were great too. Just needs some better writing and more of the characters the first one teased us with. I especially want Cosmo and Howard the Duck helping the Guardians.
Some of the new songs are pretty much "easy listening" rock. So the soundtrack is a little disappointing. Fox on a Run is probably the best. While I do get why there's not too much focus on new characters. To build more on relationships of the first films characters.
However it felt like Alice: Through the LooKing Glass which pretty much was made to work out the issues between father and sons and sisters who didn't get along. Except, yes this movie is much better than that one.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Guardians are all about the characters with the music and effects. I liked the original a little more, but this sequel did not crater like others in the MCU. I'm not sure I get the main plot resolved in my head, but then again at the end of the last one he did not even ask a follow up on his dad.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. During this third act, what Ego does shouldn't come as a surprise to the audience. This is fine since Ego's social awkward and tragic delegate, Mantis, helps Drax and the rest of the Guardians, forced out my Gamora, to spell out trouble early on in this Act. The real of Ego's plan is very premeditated than definitive here. When Peter finds the tragic truth from Ego and what he is up to, he is at an end pass with his blood father and his Guardians family. With funny father and son moments throughout the film, when it comes to the third act, there isn't much breathing room here. During the Ego's plan reveal, it comes as a more dramatic turn and feels like a box checked for a huge third act battle. Emotions fly high when Nebula reveals, to Gamora, the pain she was put through and when Yondu finally reveals his regrets to Peter and the rest of the team. After learning what Ego's up to, Peter finally snaps out of this "Father and Son" trance. He finally realizes what’s more important in his life. Yes, those father and son moments pull at your heart string, but they are so artificial, your diet soda would be laughing at you. During the father and son catch scene, Ego makes Peter create an artifice ball of light to through. That ball of light symbolizes a fake moment to them that isn't real at all. Once Peter realizes this, it is too late for him and the rest of the Guardians to stop Ego and his master plan.

Welcome to the Guardians of the "Freaking" Galaxy In conclusion of this film, outside of some small minor flaws and many subplots that slows down the 2nd Act of the film, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is one of the most exciting, audacious, joyful and heartfelt film in the MCU today. Since the first film, we grow attached to these characters while on an emotional thrill ride from the first scene to the last. The importance of family and the connection it has towards each member and connections to humanity is present throughout the film. From a cybernetic raccoon, alien assassins, a one phrase talking sentient creature, a destroyer or star lords, in our souls lies an empirical yearning to see what happens to them throughout this film. During the film, Peter Quill, Gamora and Nebula, deal with their father issues, both bent on their own agendas, to see what is more important and is right in front of them, family. Outside of the stories and plots themselves, there are many Marvel Easter Eggs, found in all MCU movies, crammed into this film. Ranging from important characters featured throughout the whole Marvel comic and film universe with possibilities in the MCU down the line to familiar locations with aliens only hard-core Marvel comic audiences will fully appreciate and understand. This sequel features a lot on emotions and colorful imagery to recapture the sincere heart and crackling energy of the first film. This film will tie us movie goers and MCU fan's until the next major MCU event, namely, the Guardians' appearance in the Avengers: Infinity War, rather than standalone next installment of the Guardians story. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 will satisfy every MCU fan or fan of action, adventure and superhero film and will meet that audiences exceptions. ***Attention, Don't leave until the end credits concluded for more Guardians and Marvel Cinematic Universe fun.

Main kudos to James Gunn, he did a absolutely awesome job. This one will be hard to beat, but hope I'm wrong and that there's a even better GoG vol 3. 1.Overwhelmed with subplots, Rockets relationship with Yondu, Gamora and her sister, Gamora and Star-Lords relationship, Yondu's story with Ego, Nebulas horrible childhood with Gamora and Thanos, Yondu's past with The Ravengers and so on. The movie doesn't balance any of them and just shoves them down your throat.
2.Yet again Marvel fails to deliver a convincing villain, in fact ego is probably one of the worst in the past 5 films or so, having a dull and shallow motivation and the grand scheme was just left unexplained
3.The pacing of this movie is extremely quick, you can vaguely understand the main plot due to the fact its overflowing with subplots.

Just hire Marvel Studios to make one of the funnest movies of the second quarter of 2017. I do believe there should be one reason why everyone should be seeing this and if you manage to guess correctly, then you would probably get the idea. Sequel or not, it's like worth watching a second time. Expand

Plus, given the tone of the film they could use the full spectrum of colors to render beautiful exotic worlds. It is a well balanced ensemble film. My only critique with the cast is Karen Gillian. She was great in Dr. Who, but she didn't have much to do in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1, and her character is even more 1 dimensional here. Everyone else was great. It felt like character building was given preference over plot and that caused things to slow down at times. But they are good characters, and they did it well. Sometimes the humor was a bit forced but overall more jokes paid off than not. The opening sequence was great, and overall I really enjoyed the film. Is it better than the original? Probably not. But its a worthy sequel. Expand

The jokes were corny, the plot was stale, the only thing that you could really think was amazing are the visual effects. As somebody who was quite confused seeing the film getting mixed reviews before seeing it, I understand why now. There was even many times during the film when I just thought to myself: "wow, this is disappointing." Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2 is just... plane, but it's in no way terrible, and it's obviously hard to match-up with the first Guardians of the Galaxy, but it doesn't even come close. There were a few really good action sequences, but there was more bad than good. Look, I respect Marvel, I respect James Gunn, but this movie is hard to respect, and there's one key reason why: It's PG-13, but the most childish PG-13 movie on the planet. It's a movie for children, and only children. Expand

However, the movie suffered from the problems that plague other Marvel movies. It had over the top plots, sloppy storytelling, and really corny moments in it. It reminded me of some of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies in how there was a lot of side flipping amongst other characters between friend and foe, and oftentimes it wasn't very well reasoned. The whole plot was a bit ridiculous (you'll have to see it to know what I'm talking about). Of course this movie incorporates the same corny lines and dialogue as every other marvel movie, and even takes it further than most in my opinion. Fortunately they did not overdo the Baby Groot thing. I would recommend seeing it because it is entertaining, but don't expect a great story or a very interesting plot. Expect a funny, action packed movie with corny one liners and forced moments. Expand

Guarians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 is a good sequel to it's suprise hit predecessor, it might not recapture the suprise of the first but the sequel brings back the charm, the fun, the humor and the soundtrack. Characters is it's biggest strength, they were given some emotiona layer which audience can connect to them. The characters are more interesting than ever, they were flesh out greatly and we all can have fun with them. The Villain is interesting but his motives is generic and might confuse other people but the actor who played it is fantastic, so is the actors/actress in this film, they all do their part greatly. People will think that the other characters don't have enough screentime, but for me they were given a good and satisfying scenes which makes them stand out from the rest. Chaarcter interactions is just so satisfying. Giving out dumb jokes taht can easily make people laugh because of the delivery of the actors.

Story can be convuluted at some point but you will forgive it because of how entertaining this movie is. Humor can be annoying for some people but atleast it can make you chuckle even how stupid and unecessary it is. The film is not better than its predecessor but it is a good sequel to watch that can entertain especially when you get bored of your miserable life.

Here they were going for comedy over substance. Reminded me of the first few great James Bond movies that were somber with a little joke once in awhile with a fancy gadget here and there. Then Bond became all about the toys and campiness until recovering many films later when they got back to being somber and significant. I did not wanted to watch this movie, but the first one, despite all its flaws and the fact that its plot was a remake of Avengers, was still one of the few Marvel movies I would consider to be above average so I decided to give it a chance. But GotG 2 manages to lower even the mediocre bar set by its predecessor.

I will admit however that I admire what the producers have been trying to do. Instead of making another sci-fi adventure movie like the first, they went more on an Empire Strikes Back route and tried to make a slower, more intimate and character driven movie. Unfurtonatelly, they failed. Every character and their grandmother get a backstory in this movie and even though some are interesting, like Gamora and her sister's, most of them are not and the second act feels like it's never goind to end. Also, some of the characters you liked in the original are absolutelly lame in this one. Drax does absolutelly nothing the entire movie, Rocket is an unlikeable jerk and even though Baby Groot is cute the first five minutes, you spend the rest of the movie wishing you can set him on fire and then pour gasoline on him. Other than these, the movie suffers from the same issues every Marvel movie suffers: action scenes that have no tension, an uninteresting villain with terrible motivation and lame jokes every 30 seconds, even ruining the emotional moments this movie tries to have. And holy **** the humor in this movie is bad. You will ocasionally have a giggle or 2 but most of the "funny" moments involve characters yelling at each other or repeating a joke 30 times just in case you didn't find them funny the first 29 times. The jokes in this makes the ones in Adam Sandler movies feel subtle and intelligent.

In the end, it's not a good movie. It's not even a mediocre movie. It's the kind of crap that will at best be remembered for the memes that will come out of it.

So after seeing only a 67 percent approval on this film i was a bit scared to be disappointed when i went.
I was totally relieved though when this turned out to be the most fun i've had in a theatre for a long time.
There were dozens of laugh out loud moments ,mostly in the first half but some in second half as well.
The humour was well done, clever and not held back and pc in the least with the characters speaking like normal people.
Great chemistry between actors.
The plot was clever, flowed smoothly and made sense in a comic book fashion.
The characters were further developed from the first film and secrets were revealed, questions answered throughout .
Action sequences and special effects were tremendous and spaced out perfectly.
I'm happy that this film and Logan are the 2 best films i've seen this yr,each being a credit to Marvel and near the end of this film i had to admire the universe they've created and how special it is.
Before the film they had the new Thor Ragnorok trailer and it promises to more of the same great stuff.
You must see this film.

FromThis was not as good as the first movie. The opening sequence set the tone of the movie that it was going to be a disappointment as it was just filled with epic amounts of CGI thrown at you with little concern for the plot development. From the first movie the jokes and situational humour was few and far between and just sprinkled enough to make the movie flow nicely. Here it's thrown in your face every chance they get. There will be dick and poop jokes and really feels like they made this movie to appeal to 10 year olds and kids that are going to want baby groot toys for Christmas. There was no connection what so ever with the marvel universe in terms of advancing the storyline towards Thanos and the infinity guantlet. That to me was the biggest blunder this movie made. They try and force the emotional tug strings of family and friends but it just falls flat on its face. It was close to 45 minutes into the movie and I had no idea what the plot was and what they were advancing towards. There's nothing wrong with liking the movie but for me it was a huge miss and just fell completely flat that I actually felt bad for spending money to go see this movie and not waiting for it to show up on Netflix. Here's my review of the first one. Nothing has changed, so why waste my time being original when the filmmakers didn't.
The latest Marvel mashup brings a ragtag gang of unusual characters together to save the universe. This opens things up for irreverent humor, which isn’t always is seldom that funny. Action is inevitable, but most of it is fast & noisy without standing out. There’s also lots to look at, including dozens of fun creatures and some cool design. (New this time: the middle bogs way down with too much dull drama and little Groot is just precious.) The playful tone and unusual individuals make it entertaining, but the underlying lack of originality keeps it from soaring.
I gave the original 3 stars, but I'm only doing 1.5 for this one (half as many stars for a half-assed movie). NOTE: To make sure you watch all the credits, hey've spread out the teaser jokes throughout them.

The intro sequence is cringe-worthy and makes you wonder how you ever thought Baby Groot was adorable. Things quickly get worse as the film tries WAY too hard to be (for some unfathomable reason) overly serious and dramatic. All of this sudden gravitas and focus on character development is crammed into the nearly humorless middle of the film which makes it drag terribly. A couple of the jokes are downright painful - the writers should have been put out an airlock. At least one major plot point falls apart if you think too long about it. Stan Lee's "cameos" feel clumsy and way too meta. Even the soundtrack is disappointing - the one decent song is ruined when its agonizingly employed as a story element. SOOO many better tunes from that era were available, too. Frankly, the credits are more interesting than the actual film..lots of hints at major developments in the Marvel movie universes (plural is intended, hint hint). The whole thing ends up feeling like little more than a springboard for things to come in which the Guardians will probably be glorified window dressing. A must-see for the Marvel completionists but for anyone else its a complete "meh", and probably not required viewing in the overall scheme of things. Expand

Sparks of genius, but ultimately just and just satisfying as the pacing for Yondu was weak and he was not allowed enough screen time for the ending to have the emotional impact it intended to have. The final fight was bizarre and definitely not on par with the better action sequences that have been produced by marvel before. I am confident James Gunn will bounce back return with the best one in the series yet. Expand

Well, it is Guardian of the Galaxy so expect plenty of quirky humor. Drax really stood out in this one, very funny with his blunt and frank interactions. However, the plot is pretty stupid. Kurt Russel aka Starlord's dad is celestial (a planet) like what in the blood hell. He wants his son's help to destroy all life because he couldnt do it alone, talking about cheesiness. That's where this movie went wrong, if it werent for the humor, i'd give this movie a 3. In the Marvel universe where you have cool super heroes in awesome capes and amazing power. You have this celestial god that looks average and have mediocre power that doesn't seem to fit in the marvel universe. He is immortal yet he looked 70 years old, okay. If the writer wrote this story for a kid or teenager than it wouldnt matter, but any intelligent adult will find this movie misinformed and too over the top. Need Neil deGrasse Tyson to give them a little astrophysic lesson. Shees. Expand

There are too many points where the whole thing seems unbelievable. The effects are pretty. Everything is just about what you expect it to be for a modern Marvel film. It's a tired and pointless formula, but it sells gangbusters. Unless your a huge fan of the dozens of comic book films coming out this decade, give it a pass. Loved it. It actually surprised excessively that I may have to go back to the theaters to watch what other things I've missed. To be honest the star of the show for me was Drax and Groot, but seeing Nebula and Gamora and their sibling rivalry (and the truth to that) was also interesting. I don't know why for the life of me I was thinking of Judge Dredd when I saw Stallone in the outfit (when clearly that's the wrong comic). Yondu blew me away...and left me in tears. And Peter...boy...the dude had me rolling on that one scene where he clashed with Ego.

James Gunn and the gang really outdid themselves. Vol.2 feels more contained when up against its predecessor but while that would derail other films, Gunn's solid handling of the story and its characters makes this film succeed.

Okay, just let me say really quick: I am absolutely obsessed with of Baby Groot! While he was amazing at the end of the first movie, now he has legs for rocking, defining him as the pop culture king for an entire generation!
Now onto the rest of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which I should call absolutely freaking awesome! We all thought James Gunn outdid himself with the refreshing ball of excitement in a period full of blockbusters trying to be all edgy and stuff. Yet he outdid himself again with a funnier, sadder version of the original, guaranteeing howls of laughter from all ages. Yes, I said sadder, because the production crew did not shy away from an upsetting plot twist, only to segue into the quiet, touching final moments. U-huh, touching, as in, something unexpected happens that leaves a rather reflective note about all that you just saw.
Gunn has made the most emotional feature to come out of Marvel Studios thus far, as well as the funniest by a mile. The jokes are bigger in saturation than Volume 1, setting off the most memorable opening credits sequence since Deadpool, thanks to everyone’s favorite talking tree! He could have benefited if he were written to be more than just a comic sidekick, but whenever you laugh, perhaps half those moments will be because of him.
Everyone else in the cast also delivers their fair share of belly-laugh moments, especially when Drax gets his own chance for romance with a bug-eyed mistress named Mantis, who can feel another’s feelings with a touch. These two create the most moving romance, as well as the most quotable!
Yet it exists not just for laughs, between their snappy arguments, the encompassing theme of family actively affects almost the whole cast in some way. It answers a question never consciously asked about Peter’s backstory: where did his parents come from? In addition, Gamora and Nebula confront their open-ended sisterly conflict from before. However, the conclusion to Star-Lord’s father’s story feels rather dissatisfying, I mean, it is not dark or depressing, just not fully realized enough.
To top it off, the laughs get a bit too consistent, giving no real time to breathe during some of the moments of drama; but it still managed to jump back on its feet and reconnect us back to the characters.
Speaking of characters, the fivesome explore more territory of their galaxy in a very down-to-earth sort of approach. New places are seen such as a snow planet filled with robot hookers, a vivid planet built by man himself, remote-controlled battleships run by gold people, and the woods behind a Dairy Queen in 1980 Missouri, where an alien plant thrives. One minor complaint though; I can’t quite buy into Star-Lord’s space environment as a world that could inspire future storytellers, since everyone speaks English, unlike more carefully plotted out alien worlds including District 9 or Avatar.
One last complaint: aside from all the old songs, the original soundtrack resembles the soundtracks of all other films under a similar genre these days. Although a flaw as minor as this one may not even be easily noticed; too many great qualities outnumber the bad ones. I also ought to highlight the phenomenal standout performances that display the best of Marvel Studios, particularly by Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, and Michael Rooker.
What else can I say? Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 outdoes Marvel’s branding, letting go of the offensive dehumanizing stereotypes from all the previous Cinematic Universe endeavors. This franchise appeals to more than just the youth market and their parents; anybody can have a blast! The older folk will love the nostalgic soundtrack as well as some surprise cameos by familiar faces; the teens will love the wild action balanced with some smart humor; the kids, if parents oblige to the PG-13 rating, will want to dance with Baby Groot; and everybody, no matter how young or how old, will love the timeless bonds about family. Can’t wait for spidey to come out in July!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Oh hey, the new masterpiece by the universally praised MARVEL STUDIOS, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is finally here! What does it have in store for us folks??!!

More of the things we all enjoyed in the first movie so much! More "alien" races which are humans but are colored differently! WAY much more piece of sh*t pathetic cringy jokes! I mean seriously, already in the opening scenes I was forced to sit through "humor" related to nipples, erections and feces. "Jokes" about penises were quick to follow, as well as my willingness to commit suicide. That's some family quality entertainment the axis of e..., erhm, Disney provides nowadays. More lame boring family drama! More blue ugly bald woman whose name I don't remember and who can't act for jack sh*t! More explosions at the expense of any sensible plot! More needlessly radiant colorful CGI!

What else is there? Well, there's a scene where the blue mohawk guy and the Racoon (mostly the guy) kill what looks like a hundred people and lightheartedly laugh about it. Even the soundtrack is no longer funky and memorable, seriously, those are the tracks you could pick from the rich 70's music collection?

Every time the heroes were in danger, I wanted them to finally die. Unfortunately, nobody important is allowed to die in Marvel movies, but at least somebody did. However, any joy from it was overshadowed by the tedious tear-jerking overly-long funeral that followed.

Okay, I thought the first Guardians to be overrated (as all Marvel movies basically), but at least I found those enjoyable. This, however, is the worst movie of the franchise I have watched so far, so glad I didn't contribute to its box office.

I was concerned, going in, that Gunn couldn't possibly bring the same level of heart, the same exuberantly colorful visuals, and the same character moments that made the first film such a lightning-in-a-bottle moment. I'm please report my fears were utterly unfounded. Volume Two is entirely satisfying on all fronts, and in fact, it's better than the original film on most fronts. Where sequels sometimes suffer from bloat, this movie felt like MORE without feeling like an unintelligible storm of narrative. Every character--from Yondu to Rocket, Mantis to Nebula--gets standout moments, genuine emotional touchpoints that bring us closer to them and their struggles. The Guardians as a franchise-within-a-franchise remains a visual treat, dynamic and free-spirited, and as one reviewer put it (allow me to paraphrase), they're more of a team than the Avengers have ever managed to be. I seriously cannot find fault with anything in this film: if you loved, really loved, the first GOTG, you're going to appreciate Volume Two immensely. Expand

Fun, but more of the same. Instead of the wit and goofiness of the previous installment, we got a bunch of yelling and infighting that wore thin after a couple hours. I thought Ego was an inspired choice for the antagonist of the film but then his agenda of turned out to be the same as a handful of Marvel villains before him. The father-son dynamic of the movie was touching but could have used some more actual on-screen time between space pirate captain and space pirate son beside a last minute sacrifice to attempt to tug on the heart strings.
All-in-all a mixed bag.

The problem is that it falls far short of the first installment. The first movie was an underdog and played like one. It had charm, charisma, emotion, and a general likeability mixed in with one of the greatest soundtracks of all time. The problem with sequels to underdogs is that they try and recreate what the original did. Here, they tried too hard. What made the first one great was that it was not the ordinary formulaic superhero movie. It caught us off guard. It was approachable for a wide audience because it was less about superheroes and more about the characters, their interactions, their growth, and their story. The second movie is devoid of almost everything that made the first movie an instant classic. It tries too hard to recreate the magic of the first without truly understanding what that magic was. It force feeds the audience with what it thinks they want, without understanding what the modern audience is looking for. In my opinion, the first volume, all in all, is one of the best all around movies that has come out in the last decade. It was memorable and made me want to watch it over and over again. The sequel was decent, but I have no desire to re-watch it and it won't be a movie that I will be recommending to others. Expand

This felt overall more a side story about Star Lord's background and seemed to focus less on the other Guardians. Pratt and Bautista do a great job but Rocket Raccoon looks slightly different in this one. Like they tried to make him more family friendly or something. I'm probably the odd one out saying I am not a fan of baby Groot. Rooker is the real star and has some great lines one of which was the biggest laugh of the year. Nebula and the Gamora family feud is a bit juvenile. Waiting to see where Gamora goes with Star Lord. That brings us to Kurt Russell who is awesome but just wish we had more of a real villain instead of some super being that reminded me of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier alien at the end pretending to be a God. Visually it's terrific, I just expected that sort of fresh, risky style like the first but this one plodded along until the third act (which got boring quickly due to a boring setting). All those really minor things aside it's better than other sequels and still recommend buying it if you're just as taken with the characters and universe as I am. Thanos for Guardians 3! Expand

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 was a really fun movie.
I believe that the first guardians of the galaxy is the best marvel movie, great characters, fun story but it had a weak villain... This sequel had great characters, a weak story but a fun villain.

Like I mentioned, the story was weak and messy at times, there is a lot of sub-plots, some of them are amazing like Yondu's arc but the story with the golden people was stupid and useless, the main story was really cliched but the first movie had a very cliched story as well, what makes these two movies work is the characters.

And the characters are still amazing, they all have some sort of developpement but the best character in this movie is Yondu, his arc was fun, interesting and heart-breaking.
The villain was a major step up from the first movie, he had his funny moments but he does feel menacing at times and the final confratation with him and Peter Quill was fun and intense.

This was a fun and satisfying movie with a really touching ending, the story wasn't anything special but the acting, the action and the characters makes this movie just as good as the first guardians of the galaxy and I do recommend you watching it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. GoG Vol.2 is a CHILD PARTY movie. The main characters are formed for: Drax, as the clown of the party - he makes jokes with everything (he left to be the Destroyer to become "the joker"); the bday boy - the teenager mind Starlord, a spoiled adult guy; the cute baby that everyone looks and thinks (like Mantis) "he is so cute" - and just it; the father of the party - Yondu (the only one you respect in this mess); the impulsive and stressed friend - Rocket; the love interest - Gamora and etc.
It's a pitty that the most interesting and emotional parts belongs to Yondu, Rocket and Nebula (secondary characters). The best action scenes comes from Yondu and Rocket. Baby Groot was just a marketing ploy. Drax as Mantis are almost unuseful (I suppose he lost his intelligence after touching the Space Gem in Vol. 1. I love to see Gamora in the screen, 'kuz she looks like badass... she has presence, but they didn't give her the oportunity to show it in the movie...
And about the Sovereigns... oh, my gosh... When I watched the trailers, I expected Ayesha would be a strong, serious and imponent char., but Marvel put her and the others Sovereigns in embarrassing and comic situations which you can't take them seriously and feel some urgency from them. And also the actors adopted a grotesque playing to do their roles. Stallone has few and OK moments, and I hated his costume (like Bryan Singer style).
