Now the story and journey of itsMarvel's redemption for the silliness and randomness of the first Guardians movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 takes the characters and setting of the first movie and adds proper back-story. Surprise! Now the story and journey of its characters has significant meaning. Glorious visuals and a decent (if stereotypical) villain round out a much more satisfying experience than the empty vapidness of the first Guardians movie. The plot is still predictable in some ways, but there is a major redemption arc for one character that completely lifts the finale of the story to epic territory. Overall, Guardians 2 is a fine example of Marvel balancing seriousness with levity.

Worth watching in tandem with the first movie, as Guardians 2 answers many of the questions left hanging in Guardians 1, and both are better films because of it.

As a movie, this isn't a 10/10. There are a reasonable amount of flaws. But this score is based off of pure enjoyment for a film. And, in that regard, Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.2 is my favorite film. Mary Poppins approves.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is yet again a really funny entry in the MCU. Character development is really strong this time. Yondu (Michael Rooker) and Rocket's (Bradley Cooper) relationship is very well done and Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Gamora's (Zoe Saldana) relationship is also very well developed. CGI wasn't perfect but not horrible either. It was sometimes a bit distracting but it didn't distract as much as to just interupt the story for you. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is a great follow-up to the first Guardians of the Galaxy but doesn't exceed it's predecessor. The villain is excellently developed and played by Kurt Russel and overal Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is a fun time to watch.

And good for them because it was a great movie and made big business at the box office.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 was better than Guardians 1 and I’ll list the reasons why because it is seldom where a sequel outperforms its predecessor. One thing was the soundtrack was fun! It fit the movie, and it was amazing. Fun tracks like “Come a Little Bit Closer” had me tappin my foot to the awesome mix. Baby Groot also makes this movie. Baby Groot is funner than Big Boy Groot. Also cuter and I’m sure the merchandising is cashing in on this aspect. Give me a hero who appears weak and powerless yet can get the job done in fun way. And that’s exactly what Baby Groot represents.

I watched Guardians 2 in the theatre and I knew it was a good movie at the end. Right after they started rolling the credits we were leaving and I saw a woman near the front who was an obvious comicbook fan who was crying, and she was talking with her friends and I heard her say “that was a great movie.” It's great when fans are moved to tears because they love a movie. And I’d have to agree with her. 10 out of 10.

If you liked the first movie, you won't be disappointed.

Volume 2 is a good continuation of the first movie. The same chemistry is there, and the actors and actresses are obviously comfortable in their zone. While in that zone there is several new and older characters that make their appearance. My favorite new character is Mantis. I really think her and Drax would make a good couple (yes I am a romantic).

I don't think this is too spoilery, but Quill gets to meet his father, and I think they made an excellent choice by selecting Kurt Russell. It felt natural, and even though I saw the character arc with his dad it was interesting. As a side note there are several cameos that are great as well.

My favorite character though in this one was Yando. I like Michael Rooker in a lot of things, but I really think this is my favorite role of his. The relationship between Quill and him, and the actual story behind his raising of Quill made him a very satisfactory character.

The movie itself is full of good actions scenes, and even though I really wasn't fond of the golden Sovereign, it was a lot of fun to watch. I even enjoyed the 5 after credits scenes, my favorite involves Groot and Quill. I do have to say that movies are getting out of hand with after credit scenes. Couldn't they just put it at the end of the movie and not make us wait 10 minutes through credits?

It is definitely a see in the theater kind of movie.

The good: It is more of the same as Volume 1, with the addition of more Rooker and some funny cameos.

The bad: I didn't particularly like the sovereign, and after credit scenes have to stop.

I am not particularly a huge comic book fangirl, nor even particularly a comic book movie fangirl. And yet I have found myself in the position with many others, where I am seeing nearly three Marvel movies a year. I don't have the energy to open up the discussion on DC today, let's stick with the Feige-verse for now.

I enjoy almost every MCUl movie I see. They know what they are doing, they know they can put out 3 movies, all between B and A-'s, and print money. They have had an absurd record as far as opening weekends go, I am not sure if there has been a Marvel property in recent history that hasn't been objectively a massive success. But the first Guardians of the Galaxy was when it really first kicked in for me. I am a sucker for classic music used in new, fun ways (translation-not Suicide Squad ways) and the cast and plot really just made for my favorite Marvel movie. And since Edgar Wright never got to do Ant Man, the original Guardians remains my favorite. That being said, I was anxious going into the second. The first won me over by surprise, and I knew that my expectations for the second would only leave me at least a little underwhelmed. And I was terrified they would over use baby Groot. They did, but I digress.
That being said, this was a really solid, fun summer blockbuster. I had more complaints about this than in the initial, but this still stands in my top Marvel movies just in story and execution. It feels like a different, more off beat property than The Avengers, which is tiring slowly to me. The Guardians movies just seem to have a more relatable rag tag quality than the very classic superheroes of the rest of the MCU, save for Wolverine. James Gunn also walks the line of "funny" and "real emotions that make you want to cry while listening to Cat Stevens" better than any other current director in comic book franchises.

It would be hard to get too into this without getting into spoilers, so let's just talk Kurt Russell. I was not as much of a fan about the plot of the sequel as the first, but Kurt Russell is just the best, so I will forgive the weird father plot line that got really out of hand quickly. This highlights the main issue I have with the MCU. The scale of the conflicts are always way out of proportion. Not every movie has to have the entire fate of the universe on the line. Sometimes there can just be one truly evil person who wants to ruin one to five people's lives, and that can be interesting too.

But as I said, nothing with 70's Kurt Russell could disappoint me. 7.5/10

The humourThe main complaints about Guardians of the Galaxy Volume #2 is that there is unessacary humour, another dissapointing villain, average plot and a lack of character development, and most of these complaints are fully justified. The humour feels out of place, especially in serious moments, it felt as if Marvel were just trying too hard on this one, and while Kurt Russell does put in a very good performance as "Ego" he wasn't fleshed out enough, like most marvel villains. This felt overall more a side story about Star Lord's background and seemed to focus less on the other Guardians. Pratt and Bautista do a great job but Rocket Raccoon looks slightly different in this one. Like they tried to make him more family friendly or something. I'm probably the odd one out saying I am not a fan of baby Groot. Rooker is the real star and has some great lines one of which was the biggest laugh of the year. Nebula and the Gamora family feud is a bit juvenile. Waiting to see where Gamora goes with Star Lord. That brings us to Kurt Russell who is awesome but just wish we had more of a real villain instead of some super being that reminded me of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier alien at the end pretending to be a God. Visually it's terrific, I just expected that sort of fresh, risky style like the first but this one plodded along until the third act (which got boring quickly due to a boring setting). All those really minor things aside it's better than other sequels and still recommend buying it if you're just as taken with the characters and universe as I am. Thanos for Guardians 3! Expand

After the amazing reception to their first outing in 2014, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy return with a surprisingly character driven sequel.

Picking up a few months after the events of the last film, Vol.2 finds the fully formed team enjoying their status as ‘Galaxy savers’ and working from job to job in a very Firefly-esque scenario (love James Gunn but can you imagine how good a Joss Whedon Guardians movie be?). These early sequences with the team altogether is when the script is at its most fun as one-liners and jokes come thick and fast and the action moves at a neck-braking pace.

Its in the second act though that Gunn’s decision to divide the team and delve deeper into their back stories becomes a bit of a double edged sword. On one hand each of these dialogue-heavy duologue scenes is pitched perfectly and successfully builds each character. On the other hand a string of these scenes one after the other means there is a fair amount of runtime where the plot doesn’t progress at all.

This isn’t to say this approach is a negative in any way, however in the pantheon of Marvel movies we are used to having a world-ending villainous scheme pushing through the whole movie and giving the heroes a clear obstacle to overcome, there are often even cutaways to let us know what the villains are up to (Ronan’s subplot in Guardians 1, Zemo in Civil War, etc). In Guardians 2 however the key driving point that insights the main conflict of the film isn’t revealed until at least 90 minutes in (an estimate).

Now going completely plot driven isn’t necessarily a good thing with these films. Thor: The Dark World for example did zero character development and focused on some generic plot about dark elves making it one of the most forgettable entries into the Marvel franchise.

The key of course, is finding a balance between plot and character, something Guardians 1 absolutely nailed.

In any other franchise this could result in an empty, meh, experience (I’m looking at you Suicide Squad). With Guardians though, the characters are so engaging and genuinely fun to spend time with, that the pacing problems don’t really matter.

Everyone is great in this and everyone gets their own funny moments, action moments and even touching moments. Drax (Dave Bautista) often steals each scene with some fantastic one liners and Rocket (Bradley Cooper) has never been more of a badass.

Obviously Baby Groot is everything….

Gunn also does a great job of expanding on characters that were side players in part 1. Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Yondu (Michael Rooker) both get their own, satisfying arcs whilst also forcing members of the core Guardians team to take a long hard look at themselves.

At the centre of it all is Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and his newly found father Ego (Kurt Russell). The pair share a few standout scenes together as Peter’s heritage is delved into in a big way.

After a few meandering scenes of character building the final action set piece of act three does feel a little rushed but is nonetheless spectacular to look at. To get any further into the final scenes would be to spoil things but needless to say everything that had proceeded them makes perfect sense in context.

As part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 has the weight of some unreasonable expectations on its shoulders. At this point fans have spent almost a full 7 days absorbing a mountain of content across the various properties and mediums. When every new film comes out we have already known for years when the release date is, who the new characters are, who's coming back, who’s not, how many post credits stings there will be etc etc. All of this means you build a picture in your head of what the film will be and how it will play out. When things go differently to how you expect, as with Guardians 2, it takes a moment to re-adjust.

James Gunn has taken a gamble with Guardians 2, relying on the strength of his characters to see him through. Luckily for us Star Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, Groot, Yondu and Nebula remain some of the most engaging, funny and human characters of the MCU. Now that we know more about them I for one can't wait to see them collide the Avengers in next year’s Avengers: Infinity War.

And unlike Star Wars The Last Jedi, this movie hits every single time it tries to be funny, instead of failing miserably.

Is it one of the best movies of all time? No.
But I had the need to watch the Bluray over 10 times now.
Every time I just wanted to see a certain scene, but couldn't resist to just go to the beginning and watch it completely.

There's some unique choices as well from James Gunn which shows the freedom and trust that Marvel place in him like the bold opening credits scene that has a new spin on opening action sequences. However, the third act decends into a bit of a mess with a standard CGI infested battle yet it does still manage to create some unique visuals. There's some real emotional punch here too that comes after a slightly rushed journey but it just about feels earned. Oh, and of course the soundtrack is as brilliant as the first. Expand

And that is also the case with Guardians 2. Some great character moments, once again stunning visuals and an amazing soundtrack. But is this movie perfect? No. The story was not the most original and the character's relationships developed too fast for a single film. In the first movie I missed the character development and in this entry it was too much, it just isn't very believable in some cases. Because of this, emotional scenes sometimes felt forced and missed to really make you feel them. All in all I had a lot of fun with this movie and was positively surprised, even though I still had my problems with it. But hey, which movie doesn't have problems? This sequel continues a few subplots which make us feel big empathy for characters even if it didn't have a main story until the half of the movie. When in the previous film the last chapter wasn't really good, in this scenario the final is by far the best part of the show.
One of the biggest advantages of the new Guardians(besides amazing music) was Ego, really complex and interesting character, playing by charismatic Kurt Rusell and voice acting of Rocket Raccoon by Bradley Cooper. Also visual effects of every battle and planet are done incredibly well.
There are moments when we're getting one gag after another and then the serious scene but all of them in conclusion make film more entertaining. Drax's lines were giving me smile every time, just like his relation with Mantis also Yondu and Ravagers didn't waste their screen time. Although this formula works perfectly for our adventure-comedy-space opera, I think Marvel will have to take some more risky steps forward for the GotG Vol.3.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is a decent sequel to the first movie but doesn't stand out that much.

It's a movie still full of jokes and running gags, but this time there are too many of them. And whenever there are too many jokes in a movie, it most often means the movie's plot is pretty bad. Actually Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has a better main plot than the first movie's. And the soundtrack still impresses, just like the first film.

Vol. 2 introduces the Celestials to the MCU. Kurt Russell stars as Ego the Living Planet, and is Star Lord's biological father, which means Star Lord is a Celestial, too. The plot is about Ego who plans to conquer the Universe by seeding thousands of planets with his offsprings hoping to produce another Celestial. Out of all of them only Star Lord can help him. Ravager Yondu Udonta makes a point of distinguishing a biological father from a true loving "daddy". The main plot is actually nice, but it derails when other sub-plots are in the spotlight, like the golden race of the Sovereign, the Ravager mutineers led by Taserface, and the other Ravager clans led by Sylvester Stallone's version of Stakar Ogord.

All in all Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is another great, fun movie in the MCU. I just wish it was better.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first Guardians movie was quite possibly the best Marvel movie, but this is by far the worst. What happened? In one word, this movie was obnoxious. This review contains minor spoilers.

The movie is full of cringy humor that I promise you won't find appealing unless you're a small child. For example, there is a long bit about a character named "taser face". Who actually wrote that and thought it was good? They also make light of casual violence. I'm not usually one to complain about violence, but there's a cringy scene with Groot that goes on for what seems like eternity and ends with a punchline of a severed toe. Wtf?

And if you can trudge your way past the (lack of) humor, you'll find a ridiculous plot that is seriously lacking. The plot is almost entirely driven by, no kidding, a character stealing batteries...for no clear purpose, unrelated to anything else in the plot. It's like this movie was written by a 12 year old, for an audience of 10 year olds, who passed it off as a childish joke for their 8 year old sibling.

You'd have to be really dazzled by the action sequences (in which characters can survive crash landing into a planet unscathed) and visuals to not notice and move past those weak points, which were already too much to bear for me. The pace of the movie tries to painfully force character development and interaction on you. For example, we know rocket is troubled, but when did he become as obnoxious towards his close friends for seemingly no reason?

The redeeming qualities of this movie were the visuals, however. In particular, the planet where the main storyline unfolds was an artistic masterpiece, with visuals rivaling Avatar. It's sad those artists' talents had to be associated with this movie. The main cast was also good with solid performances, in particular by Michael Rooker, which helped damper horrendous writing.

The first movie had a solid plot and clear purpose, with meaningful writing and characters that had touching experiences. You could be crying within the first 10 minutes of it, but this sequel will make you want to stop watching within the first 10 minutes. Everything is just dumbed down, an uncommon miss for Marvel movies in my opinion. Another major disappointment was the soundtrack. The first movie truly was an awesome mix, but this one was weak. The best music comes out at the credits, unfortunately by then you've wasted a couple hours of your life. I'm extremely disappointed, I loved the first one, but no way in hell am I going to watch another sequel.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. James Gunn returns with the sequel to the Guardians of the Galaxy with a movie that brings back many of the things that made the original so great. Is it greater than the first though? It is hard to rank one above the other, but I still believe the first installment (in what is now going to be a trilogy) deserves the nod. Led by the continuously likable and charismatic Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, we join the Guardians on a journey across the planets and galaxies. Vol. 2 introduces many new characters such as Mantis and Peter Quill aka Star Lord's father, Ego, the latter played by Kurt Russell. The characters of Drax and Rocket were hilarious as usual, Drax especially in many scenes. We learn more of the intense relationship between the sisters Gamora and Nebula, but there were two who really stood out for me: Baby Groot and (surprisingly) Yondu. Baby Groots time on camera created many laughs, not just for his sheer cuteness, but for his interactions with the other characters. Yondu in this movie was given far more story to deal with, and it certainly paid off. It made you really care for him on an emotional level, which does sound quite unusual given he is a ravager. And last but not least, Star-Lord, and being the lead character, deserved all the attention because he was great. The movie was another great entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and has created more anticipation for Avengers: Infinity Wars where we will see the Avengers team up with the Guardians. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 will provide more laughs, more emotion and more action for any movie viewer, led by a great director and cast. Expand

Fun, but more of the same. Instead of the wit and goofiness of the previous installment, we got a bunch of yelling and infighting that wore thin after a couple hours. I thought Ego was an inspired choice for the antagonist of the film but then his agenda of turned out to be the same as a handful of Marvel villains before him. The father-son dynamic of the movie was touching but could have used some more actual on-screen time between space pirate captain and space pirate son beside a last minute sacrifice to attempt to tug on the heart strings.
All-in-all a mixed bag.

Guardians' date with the creator.

The first film was the most unexpected. That was one of the most colourfull space films I have ever seen. Youthful, energetic, fantastic visuals and so the same followed in this sequel as well. Not the same good, but stood to the expectation of the first film's success. This story does not have a great adventure in the galaxy. A simple quest, but a thrilling action-adventure. Now this accidental space gang is set to meet the creator.

It's time for Peter to meet his father, Ego. As he still upset with his mother's death, his encounter with his father was not as expectedly smooth. On the other side of the story, Rocket, Yandu, Baby Groot make their escape from the captivity. They all end up on the Ego's planet where the rest of the film going to take place. Being the guardians of the galaxy, their fight against the whoever threaten the safety of the universe once again tested with their strength as a team.

James Gunn did it again. And I'm confident that he's going to do the same for next as well. All the actors were fantastic like the previous film. This time, little fun with little Groot. Anybody who loved the first would love it too. Being a franchise from Marvel universe, it is yet to join the 'Avengers'. So far so good. I'm now expecting one of the best of best trilogies. Bring it on the volume 3.

The jokes are funny, make no mistake, but the rate at which they come make the film feel more like a sitcom then anything else. It's honestly quite strange.

Still, it's a ton of fun. The set pieces are even crazier and more colorful than in the first movie, and most of the aforementioned character moments manage to pull on the heartstrings, even with all the jokes. It's not exactly the revelation that Vol. 1 was back in 2014, but it's infused with James Gunn's unique voice, which gives it a sense of self and confidence that so many blockbusters are missing these days.

Much like, ironically, Drax, the film is completely incapable of not outright stating what it wants you to feel at any moment. There is no nuance or subtext to the entire film. This is frustrating as each character in the film is given an obvious "arc" and explicitly states out loud where they are in that arc as it progresses. As a result, the film feels as though it's "stupid". Or more accurately, made for international audiences who aren't familiar with American social cues. All that said, many of the scenes land. If you are a seasoned film goer or, sorry, a smart person, you may find much of the film cringe-inducing. This is only a partial review as I've only made it one hour in before turning it off.

Guardians tries hard to be funny, and due to its formulaic nature, fails spectacularly at doing so. Along with that artificial attempt, the plot feels like one contrived instance after another that only exists to hit some predetermined plot points. The whole thing seems like a child was given a huge budget and told to make something hip that the youngsters would like.

The first one was good and the second one offers more of the same. There are a few silly changes though. The strangest one was going from Drax not understanding metaphors to him just delivering sex jokes all the time. It works, but it just feels a little off for his character. We do see bonding between almost every character pair though I wish they had developed on some of them more. Hopefully, part 3 will give us those.

The best part of the film are the character moments. Each character is essentially paired off with another and given screen time together so that they can develop and we learn amore about their relationship and the type of person they were. Somehow, the film manages to do it for the large cast of characters that are present. My problem with the film is the need to have two villains. One of them did not really feel like they needed to be in this one. They provided some interference in the climax to prevent it from making it too easy for the heroes, but it still felt like it could have been done by the main villain or someone else. There was no need to bring in two sets of villains. Luckily, the branched plots do gradually get themselves back together for a satisfying ending.

ItThe first Guardians of the Galaxy had the perfect mix of humor and grounded storytelling that made it feel human and believable. This sequel leans more on the comedy side of things, going for a more ridiculous and outright cartoonish tone. It loses a lot of the original's magic as a result. That being said, there's still plenty of enjoyment to be had here. The main issue with the movie is that the plot is so much weaker than anything the MCU has done in quite some time. Until the explosive, action-packed, and pretty emotional final act arrives the movie tends to sort of meander about with no clear idea of what it wants to be as James Gunn constantly moves from joke to joke. The humor itself is still largely funny, but a lot of it is surprisingly hit or miss. Gunn often tries to go with too many different styles of comedy. He tries to do too much and ends up doing not enough. The writing does succeed with the character Nebula though. Her arc is both the most emotional and the most compelling. It was what kept me most engaged in what was actually happening.

In an effort to make things bigger, better, and most obviously funnier the key elements that made the first such a treat and a breath of fresh air for the MCU get lost in the process. Even still though it is a lot of fun to revisit the great cast of characters and listen to their banter even if their conflict doesn't get interesting (or even arrive) until the final act.

It's definitely lacking the charm that the first one seemed to have in spades but everything else here is pretty well done if a bit lacking. I didn't feel like this one had the special quality that made the first one much more then a superhero movie and more of a good time. These days I can barely sit through a superhero movie without hating it if it's just run of the mill like this one turned out to be. That's not to say it's bad but I expected a bit more from the GotG crew here. It just felt like they were going through the motions here to get this up and done as quick as possible before the massive Avengers movie comes out. I expected a bit more from GotG because it felt different from the rest of the Marvel universe. Instead this turned out to be a fairly bland time. I'd prob still recommend watching it but those who love the first one will be very disappointed like I was. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Oh hey, the new masterpiece by the universally praised MARVEL STUDIOS, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is finally here! What does it have in store for us folks??!!

More of the things we all enjoyed in the first movie so much! More "alien" races which are humans but are colored differently! WAY much more piece of sh*t pathetic cringy jokes! I mean seriously, already in the opening scenes I was forced to sit through "humor" related to nipples, erections and feces. "Jokes" about penises were quick to follow, as well as my willingness to commit suicide. That's some family quality entertainment the axis of e..., erhm, Disney provides nowadays. More lame boring family drama! More blue ugly bald woman whose name I don't remember and who can't act for jack sh*t! More explosions at the expense of any sensible plot! More needlessly radiant colorful CGI!

What else is there? Well, there's a scene where the blue mohawk guy and the Racoon (mostly the guy) kill what looks like a hundred people and lightheartedly laugh about it. Even the soundtrack is no longer funky and memorable, seriously, those are the tracks you could pick from the rich 70's music collection?

Every time the heroes were in danger, I wanted them to finally die. Unfortunately, nobody important is allowed to die in Marvel movies, but at least somebody did. However, any joy from it was overshadowed by the tedious tear-jerking overly-long funeral that followed.

Okay, I thought the first Guardians to be overrated (as all Marvel movies basically), but at least I found those enjoyable. This, however, is the worst movie of the franchise I have watched so far, so glad I didn't contribute to its box office.

Will the price increase to save the galaxy for the second time?

The inaugural chapter of the most irreverent galactic mercenaries from Marvel was a gigantic turning point in the path set by superhero movies. "Guardians of the Galaxy" was one of the best proposals in 2014, a carefree sci-fi film that divorced in full from the general storyline that, by requirement, has to follow regarding the super longed final outcome called "IW". The massive success was mainly due to the three true foundations: Story (screenplay), actors (performances) and director (decisions). From all, that colorful and hilarious mix comes the expected "Vol. 2 ", which remains stable in relation to the first one and satisfies the enormous expectation that was on the shoulders of the guardians.

If the creative outbursts of the writer seemed eccentric in the first film by virtue of the composition of apparently nothing correlated tones and genres, in this one, James Gunn is fully unleashed from any impediment in a story of living planets, hybrids between deities and humans and allusions to Mary Poppins. The director preserves his characteristic flame innovating and relating exotic formulas even in the opening.

Here, the triad of elements, that were as original as refreshing in the first one, are strengthened, getting the same heart with a similar wrapper, it's really a continuation, not a clone. The most important pillar is the story, the plot around which the movie will have to be meant. Before it was about setting up a dysfunctional family, now, it's about being a dysfunctional family. With a general structure established, its writer, who is also a director, chooses to explore and clarify the past of his pieces, since due to its dazzling introduction was possibly a wide and amusing deepening of its roots. In addition, this study is applied to the introduction of new Guardians: Mantis, Yondu, and Nebula, finding in them a new breath to irreverence of the core stars. Likewise, within that sea of fabulous inclusions, the scriptwriters insinuate and strengthen what they have been announcing for some time: Independent of the appearances in future movies, the story of the Guardians will have three films, nothing more, nothing less.

It happens with very few motion pictures, "Guardians" is in that strange but thankful section. Even though humans will always get swept up in visuals, James Gun's film, like its predecessor presents an authentic, nostalgic and a maddening musical compendium from 70s/80s, hits enhancing the scenes with regard to the seen ones in the universe. While "Mr. Blue Sky" provides the best and most monumental opening for a Marvel movie,"The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac orchestrates one of the most mind-blowing sequences that Phase 3 has been able to set up, to this mix of yesteryear, we can add it a few songs that are right on target in the dramatic moments, which also make way for the best of Marvel. Do you want an appetizer? See the teaser trailer. Another extra? See the official trailer. But in case you are still overcome by doubts, another one? Delight yourself with the opening sequence. The pictures are sickeningly sweet like a visit to a candy shop, prevailing and vigorous like the guilty pleasure of entering the shop. The range of colors is phenomenal, and its application boosts greatly that feeling, moreover, the way to sort the components in the scene is beautiful; a harmony vis-à-vis with each character. However, they episodically fail in the well-known "more is less" proverb, even thought Ego's planet is paradisiacal, the screen is crowded of pigments and dizzying gadgets for the spectator, tarnishing the beauty of photography. It's worth highlighting the remarkable work in the editing room, that in addition to vivify scenes, produce mind-boggling IMAX and 3D screenings.

And Gunn keeps on to inscribe rules for upcoming superhero movie directors. The filmmaker concludes his feature film, his work, his son, his beloved in an intimate and melancholy way, producing a breath of hope and affliction at the same time, something that, at first glance, doesn't fit into the atmosphere of the story, but that after following the crazy adventures of our guardians for two hours feels phenomenally effective. A smile and a goodbye hurt more than hundreds of blows and Gunn has shown (also) to know how to handle it. He's a peculiar director, that has pros and cons like any other man—but more pros—, the priority for music, the character design, the importance of comedy and drama, the tidiness imposed on frames and a few hazards crossing their minds. It seems Marvel will continue at the service of the demands and ideas of this talented man and his squad of characters, demonstrating in this installment more of everything, duplicating what we liked about the first one, but giving it personality to a film as fun as tear-producing simultaneously.

I won't be comparing this movie to the first one much because I hardly have any recollection of the events that took place. Characters: The acting is nothing special, but the characters are just okay. Drax is probably one of the best parts, as he is funny in a weird way. But there are parts where they attempt to make him say meaningful dialogue that just comes across as sort of awkward because the entire movie sets him up to be a near clueless, unmannerly beast, then attempts to make him deliver good insight on decisions towards the end. It's like if the Hulk gave a heart-warming, poetic, lovely speech at the end of The Avengers; it wouldn't be terrible and go to waste, but it seems out of place and out of character. The other characters are okay, and a lot of them hardly do anything besides Chris Pratt.

Plot: The story is basic, though not completely bland. I spotted the "twist" right from the beginning, and even makes me wonder if it was supposed to be a huge twist (probably not). One problem with the whole movie is that the Guardians spend the majority of the movie split up (Groot and Rocket with Yondu, and Drax, Starlord, and Gonorrhea, or whatever Zoe Saldana's name is in this). So they never really live up to their name in this movie. In fact, the whole plot is centered on one of the characters stealing something in a job they were doing, which is very un-Guardian-like. I get that they're not supposed to be taken super seriously as heroes, but at least let them work together and keep the chemistry they had in the first one.

Humor: I saw this movie with a bunch of friends and a pretty filled theater. My experience was that you either laughed a lot, or only got a few chuckles here and there. A lot of the humor is kind of absurd and just a kind of "oh, ok. I guess I could laugh at that."

Effects: The effects are pretty well done except for a few scenes here and there where they were a bit poor, but considering the amount of work that must have been put in, it was still well done.

Overall, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is nothing to get too hyped about, but is definitely worth a watch. It's entertaining enough to compensate for the simple storyline and characters (except for Yondu) and enough action to hold you over. If you liked the first one, I guess you'd like this one. It did have a good ending, however.

The problem is that it falls far short of the first installment. The first movie was an underdog and played like one. It had charm, charisma, emotion, and a general likeability mixed in with one of the greatest soundtracks of all time. The problem with sequels to underdogs is that they try and recreate what the original did. Here, they tried too hard. What made the first one great was that it was not the ordinary formulaic superhero movie. It caught us off guard. It was approachable for a wide audience because it was less about superheroes and more about the characters, their interactions, their growth, and their story. The second movie is devoid of almost everything that made the first movie an instant classic. It tries too hard to recreate the magic of the first without truly understanding what that magic was. It force feeds the audience with what it thinks they want, without understanding what the modern audience is looking for. In my opinion, the first volume, all in all, is one of the best all around movies that has come out in the last decade. It was memorable and made me want to watch it over and over again. The sequel was decent, but I have no desire to re-watch it and it won't be a movie that I will be recommending to others. Expand

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 was a really fun movie.
I believe that the first guardians of the galaxy is the best marvel movie, great characters, fun story but it had a weak villain... This sequel had great characters, a weak story but a fun villain.

Like I mentioned, the story was weak and messy at times, there is a lot of sub-plots, some of them are amazing like Yondu's arc but the story with the golden people was stupid and useless, the main story was really cliched but the first movie had a very cliched story as well, what makes these two movies work is the characters.

And the characters are still amazing, they all have some sort of developpement but the best character in this movie is Yondu, his arc was fun, interesting and heart-breaking.
The villain was a major step up from the first movie, he had his funny moments but he does feel menacing at times and the final confratation with him and Peter Quill was fun and intense.

This was a fun and satisfying movie with a really touching ending, the story wasn't anything special but the acting, the action and the characters makes this movie just as good as the first guardians of the galaxy and I do recommend you watching it.

Addendum: I changed my mind. The script is denser than the first and this film is it's own and not a rehash of old ideas. Very satisfying the second time around in high def and with subtitles. If I could give this film an 8.8 on metacritic, I would. Worth purchasing on BluRay or streaming. Worth not waiting for Netflix or HBO.
