James Gunn does a strong job with the characters here. Giving them more depth and truly making this a character driven film. But with that we also get a much more disjointed and sometimes choppy flow to the narrative. While not every plot line worked or some material felt recycled from the first film with a massive disappointment in the soundtrack department, Guardians 2 remains to be one of the better sequels released in the past couple of years and I'm excited to see where Gunn takes the characters next. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Guardians are all about the characters with the music and effects. I liked the original a little more, but this sequel did not crater like others in the MCU. I'm not sure I get the main plot resolved in my head, but then again at the end of the last one he did not even ask a follow up on his dad. Not sure if this is spoilery, but the Disney, Star Wars, MCU brands really like redemption stories - wondering if this will impact the new trilogy. Expand

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 best sequel in the Marvel movie universe. One of Marvel's best films. Good plot, great humour and a lovely cast. In addition, it is worth noting the final action scene, perfectly shot

Though not quite as good as the first, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is a wonderful cinematic outing, with a surprisingly hilarious performance by Dave Bautista.

This movie is more of the same from Marvel. Absurd story, excellent effects, great character development and good use of marvel comic characters. The only negative is that the soundtrack is not as good or memorable as the first.
Looking forward to the next one as much as I did this one!

There's a better villain here too with a wonderfully charming performance from Kurt Russell who, believably, plays Chris Pratt's father and he get's some moments that will make you absolutely hate him. There's some unique choices as well from James Gunn which shows the freedom and trust that Marvel place in him like the bold opening credits scene that has a new spin on opening action sequences. However, the third act decends into a bit of a mess with a standard CGI infested battle yet it does still manage to create some unique visuals. There's some real emotional punch here too that comes after a slightly rushed journey but it just about feels earned. Oh, and of course the soundtrack is as brilliant as the first. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. During this third act, what Ego does shouldn't come as a surprise to the audience. This is fine since Ego's social awkward and tragic delegate, Mantis, helps Drax and the rest of the Guardians, forced out my Gamora, to spell out trouble early on in this Act. The real of Ego's plan is very premeditated than definitive here. When Peter finds the tragic truth from Ego and what he is up to, he is at an end pass with his blood father and his Guardians family. With funny father and son moments throughout the film, when it comes to the third act, there isn't much breathing room here. During the Ego's plan reveal, it comes as a more dramatic turn and feels like a box checked for a huge third act battle. Emotions fly high when Nebula reveals, to Gamora, the pain she was put through and when Yondu finally reveals his regrets to Peter and the rest of the team. After learning what Ego's up to, Peter finally snaps out of this "Father and Son" trance. He finally realizes what’s more important in his life. Yes, those father and son moments pull at your heart string, but they are so artificial, your diet soda would be laughing at you. During the father and son catch scene, Ego makes Peter create an artifice ball of light to through. That ball of light symbolizes a fake moment to them that isn't real at all. Once Peter realizes this, it is too late for him and the rest of the Guardians to stop Ego and his master plan.

Welcome to the Guardians of the "Freaking" Galaxy In conclusion of this film, outside of some small minor flaws and many subplots that slows down the 2nd Act of the film, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is one of the most exciting, audacious, joyful and heartfelt film in the MCU today. Since the first film, we grow attached to these characters while on an emotional thrill ride from the first scene to the last. The importance of family and the connection it has towards each member and connections to humanity is present throughout the film. From a cybernetic raccoon, alien assassins, a one phrase talking sentient creature, a destroyer or star lords, in our souls lies an empirical yearning to see what happens to them throughout this film. During the film, Peter Quill, Gamora and Nebula, deal with their father issues, both bent on their own agendas, to see what is more important and is right in front of them, family. Outside of the stories and plots themselves, there are many Marvel Easter Eggs, found in all MCU movies, crammed into this film. Ranging from important characters featured throughout the whole Marvel comic and film universe with possibilities in the MCU down the line to familiar locations with aliens only hard-core Marvel comic audiences will fully appreciate and understand. This sequel features a lot on emotions and colorful imagery to recapture the sincere heart and crackling energy of the first film. This film will tie us movie goers and MCU fan's until the next major MCU event, namely, the Guardians' appearance in the Avengers: Infinity War, rather than standalone next installment of the Guardians story. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 will satisfy every MCU fan or fan of action, adventure and superhero film and will meet that audiences exceptions. ***Attention, Don't leave until the end credits concluded for more Guardians and Marvel Cinematic Universe fun.

Main kudos to James Gunn, he did a absolutely awesome job. This one will be hard to beat, but hope I'm wrong and that there's a even better GoG vol 3. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 just proves that even sequels (if ever done) could be this fun to watch even though it's Marvel under the hood. Just hire Marvel Studios to make one of the funnest movies of the second quarter of 2017. I do believe there should be one reason why everyone should be seeing this and if you manage to guess correctly, then you would probably get the idea. Sequel or not, it's like worth watching a second time. Expand

I'm not big on 3D but I am quite happy I saw it in 3D. The ultra neon 70 vibe works better and its up there with Avatar in terms of use of the 3D space (instead of 2D layers like a lot of films). Plus, given the tone of the film they could use the full spectrum of colors to render beautiful exotic worlds. It is a well balanced ensemble film. My only critique with the cast is Karen Gillian. She was great in Dr. Who, but she didn't have much to do in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1, and her character is even more 1 dimensional here. Everyone else was great. It felt like character building was given preference over plot and that caused things to slow down at times. But they are good characters, and they did it well. Sometimes the humor was a bit forced but overall more jokes paid off than not. The opening sequence was great, and overall I really enjoyed the film. Is it better than the original? Probably not. But its a worthy sequel. Expand

Guarians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 is a good sequel to it's suprise hit predecessor, it might not recapture the suprise of the first but the sequel brings back the charm, the fun, the humor and the soundtrack. Characters is it's biggest strength, they were given some emotiona layer which audience can connect to them. The characters are more interesting than ever, they were flesh out greatly and we all can have fun with them. The Villain is interesting but his motives is generic and might confuse other people but the actor who played it is fantastic, so is the actors/actress in this film, they all do their part greatly. People will think that the other characters don't have enough screentime, but for me they were given a good and satisfying scenes which makes them stand out from the rest. Chaarcter interactions is just so satisfying. Giving out dumb jokes taht can easily make people laugh because of the delivery of the actors.

Story can be convuluted at some point but you will forgive it because of how entertaining this movie is. Humor can be annoying for some people but atleast it can make you chuckle even how stupid and unecessary it is. The film is not better than its predecessor but it is a good sequel to watch that can entertain especially when you get bored of your miserable life.

So after seeing only a 67 percent approval on this film i was a bit scared to be disappointed when i went.
I was totally relieved though when this turned out to be the most fun i've had in a theatre for a long time.
There were dozens of laugh out loud moments ,mostly in the first half but some in second half as well.
The humour was well done, clever and not held back and pc in the least with the characters speaking like normal people.
Great chemistry between actors.
The plot was clever, flowed smoothly and made sense in a comic book fashion.
The characters were further developed from the first film and secrets were revealed, questions answered throughout .
Action sequences and special effects were tremendous and spaced out perfectly.
I'm happy that this film and Logan are the 2 best films i've seen this yr,each being a credit to Marvel and near the end of this film i had to admire the universe they've created and how special it is.
Before the film they had the new Thor Ragnorok trailer and it promises to more of the same great stuff.
You must see this film.

Sparks of genius, but ultimately just and just satisfying as the pacing for Yondu was weak and he was not allowed enough screen time for the ending to have the emotional impact it intended to have. I am confident James Gunn will bounce back return with the best one in the series yet. Expand

Loved it. It actually surprised excessively that I may have to go back to the theaters to watch what other things I've missed. To be honest the star of the show for me was Drax and Groot, but seeing Nebula and Gamora and their sibling rivalry (and the truth to that) was also interesting. I don't know why for the life of me I was thinking of Judge Dredd when I saw Stallone in the outfit (when clearly that's the wrong comic). Yondu blew me away...and left me in tears. And Peter...boy...the dude had me rolling on that one scene where he clashed with Ego.

I was concerned, going in, that Gunn couldn't possibly bring the same level of heart, the same exuberantly colorful visuals, and the same character moments that made the first film such a lightning-in-a-bottle moment. I'm please report my fears were utterly unfounded. Volume Two is entirely satisfying on all fronts, and in fact, it's better than the original film on most fronts. Where sequels sometimes suffer from bloat, this movie felt like MORE without feeling like an unintelligible storm of narrative. Every character--from Yondu to Rocket, Mantis to Nebula--gets standout moments, genuine emotional touchpoints that bring us closer to them and their struggles. The Guardians as a franchise-within-a-franchise remains a visual treat, dynamic and free-spirited, and as one reviewer put it (allow me to paraphrase), they're more of a team than the Avengers have ever managed to be. I seriously cannot find fault with anything in this film: if you loved, really loved, the first GOTG, you're going to appreciate Volume Two immensely. Expand

Like I mentioned, the story was weak and messy at times, there is a lot of sub-plots, some of them are amazing like Yondu's arc but the story with the golden people was stupid and useless, the main story was really cliched but the first movie had a very cliched story as well, what makes these two movies work is the characters.

And the characters are still amazing, they all have some sort of developpement but the best character in this movie is Yondu, his arc was fun, interesting and heart-breaking.
The villain was a major step up from the first movie, he had his funny moments but he does feel menacing at times and the final confratation with him and Peter Quill was fun and intense.

This was a fun and satisfying movie with a really touching ending, the story wasn't anything special but the acting, the action and the characters makes this movie just as good as the first guardians of the galaxy and I do recommend you watching it.

As a movie, this isn't a 10/10. There are a reasonable amount of flaws. But this score is based off of pure enjoyment for a film. And, in that regard, Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.2 is my favorite film. Mary Poppins approves.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. GotG Vol. 2 isn’t quite as good as its predecessor, but even though it does fall into the “sequel is worse” category, it still remains a solid and entertaining MCU blockbuster and comes close enough to the original to be enjoyable. The script doesn’t have the finesse of the first movie causing the humor to drag and be a little over the top at points, but the actors do a fine job of getting around this causing a few of these moments to be genuinely funny. It’s nice that this movie takes us deeper into the character of Peter Quill by exploring his family, a route that was set up well at the end of Guardians 1. What’s even better about this is watching how Peter learning about and discovering his true family impacts his relationship with his “new” family: his fellow Guardians. This impact adds some emotional depth to the film, and makes Peter Quill a surprisingly complex character and takes him through a really nice arc that forces him to truly consider his relationships with those he cares about the most. Pratt supplements this with another great performance as the character, and his fellow Guardians castmates hit the spot as well. The movie makes sure to make good use of Kurt Russell as Ego by giving him plenty of screen time, a backstory, and a few emotional moments of his own. It also kicked ass to see the true power and capabilities of Yondu’s flying arrow, something we got a taste of in the first movie but was amplified substantially in this movie. It’s also still a relief and breath of fresh air that this film has no connection to the Avengers and the rest of the cinematic universe other than us knowing that it’s a part of it. As mentioned before, what really prevents this movie from reaching the heights of GotG 1 for me is the humor, since even with the acting the script hampers this movie’s ability to be as funny as GotG 1. GotG 2 is nonetheless still a fun and entertaining movie and is sure to leave viewers satisfied as the credits roll. Expand

Its biggest weakness is a trudging expository middle section that really dampens its rewatchability, but everything else is great. Great visuals, lots of humor, wit, and fun, outright nutty and nihilistic in just the right doses, and sentimental and serious in just the right doses. This movie accomplished a really big and unexpected thing which is that it made me actually really enjoy the characters Nebula and Yondu, who seemed like just generic villains in the first film. Rocket is a highlight of this film, like the first one. The movie has a big heart and really feels like its about something, and that saves it from being "just another marvel movie". This and the first Guardians are my two favorite films of the MCU. So glad to see James Gunn will still be writing and directing the third one. It wouldn't be the same without him. Expand

The good news is that 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2' does not disgrace the first 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and is actually just as good. Like as was said with 'Guardians of the Galaxy', is it as amazing as the IMDb rating (which is something that really shouldn't be taken to heart and is often blown out of proportion here on IMDb) and ecstatic reviews suggest? To me, not quite. Is 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2' well made and entertaining? Absolutely.

A couple of the gags fall a little flat and the film does drag in the middle act. That's pretty much it for the complaints however.

'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2', reiterating what was said in my review for the first film due to having the same strengths, boasts spectacular special effects, gorgeously psychedelic colours, slick-yet-with-enough-visual-depth cinematography (nothing cartoonish or plastic here) and very colourful and atmospheric sets that more than effectively makes one think they are immersed in this galaxy. Costumes and make-up are also of very good quality. The soundtrack and score is rousing and touchingly nostalgic, really making the toes tap. The action is beautifully edited, choreographed with lots of entertainment value and thrills and is at best exhilarating, there's plenty of it without feeling too much.

James Gunn directs with style and a sure hand, always seeming as if he knew what tone he was going for and who he was aiming at. Both 'Guardians of the Galaxy' films are far and above anything else he's done and his best overall direction are in them as well. Personally really enjoyed the way that 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2' was written too, most of the jokes are enormously entertaining and the film also has heart.

The story is mostly energetic and compelling, let down only by some of the middle act. At least however it doesn't have as many random misplaced moments and over sentimentality, even if it's not exactly original (not that that is a desperately bad thing).

Characters are on the most part incredibly colourful and engaging, with a great chemistry throughout. Peter is a likable lead character, but it's adorable and hilarious Baby Groot, scene-stealing Rocket and touchingly conflicted Yondu steal the show.

Once again, like in the first film, Chris Pratt is highly charismatic, Zoe Saldana is suitably fiery, Karen Gillan is imposingly formidable, Dave Bautista induces lots of laughs and charm while showing a very intensely played vengeful side and a surprisingly well-cast Vin Diesel does a great job as Baby Groot. Bradley Cooper stands out, being a sheer delight as Rocket. Kurt Russell is an enigmatic presence and Michael Rooker is quite touching as Yondu.

In conclusion, a lot of fun and very well made, every bit as good as the first, a few flat jokes and draggy middle aside. 8/10 Bethany Cox

First off let me explain that I am not one to obsess about Marvel films (as I feel the DCEU should get a fair shot), but Guardians of the Galaxy has always been an exception. The first film expertly combined the right elements of humor and heart that added up to an all right joy ride. In many respects this film is not very different. You can expect to see the same goofy, outlandish, yet hilarious humor from the first movie in this one. The humor is especially attributed to Baby Groot, which adds plenty of interesting dynamics to the group. The humor may not feel as fresh however, as it is very similar to the first film in this regard. The thing that puts this film above the last one is its ability to include even more heart and emotional depth. Volume 2 expands on the developments of previous characters and works to give depth and multiple dimensions to some anti-heroes not explored in the first film (ex. Gamora and Gandor). Overall, if you were a fan of the first film you should enjoy this film. Even as a person who has not read the comics nor is obsessed with any superhero movie, I found a lot to enjoy with this movie. Worth the watch (or two)! Expand

The first one was good and the second one offers more of the same. There are a few silly changes though. The strangest one was going from Drax not understanding metaphors to him just delivering sex jokes all the time. It works, but it just feels a little off for his character. We do see bonding between almost every character pair though I wish they had developed on some of them more. Hopefully, part 3 will give us those.

The best part of the film are the character moments. Each character is essentially paired off with another and given screen time together so that they can develop and we learn amore about their relationship and the type of person they were. Somehow, the film manages to do it for the large cast of characters that are present. My problem with the film is the need to have two villains. One of them did not really feel like they needed to be in this one. They provided some interference in the climax to prevent it from making it too easy for the heroes, but it still felt like it could have been done by the main villain or someone else. There was no need to bring in two sets of villains. Luckily, the branched plots do gradually get themselves back together for a satisfying ending.

Surprise! Now the story and journey of its characters has significant meaning. Glorious visuals and a decent (if stereotypical) villain round out a much more satisfying experience than the empty vapidness of the first Guardians movie. The plot is still predictable in some ways, but there is a major redemption arc for one character that completely lifts the finale of the story to epic territory. Overall, Guardians 2 is a fine example of Marvel balancing seriousness with levity.

Worth watching in tandem with the first movie, as Guardians 2 answers many of the questions left hanging in Guardians 1, and both are better films because of it.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is a decent sequel to the first movie but doesn't stand out that much.

It's a movie still full of jokes and running gags, but this time there are too many of them. And whenever there are too many jokes in a movie, it most often means the movie's plot is pretty bad. Actually Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has a better main plot than the first movie's. And the soundtrack still impresses, just like the first film.

Vol. 2 introduces the Celestials to the MCU. Kurt Russell stars as Ego the Living Planet, and is Star Lord's biological father, which means Star Lord is a Celestial, too. The plot is about Ego who plans to conquer the Universe by seeding thousands of planets with his offsprings hoping to produce another Celestial. Out of all of them only Star Lord can help him. Ravager Yondu Udonta makes a point of distinguishing a biological father from a true loving "daddy". The main plot is actually nice, but it derails when other sub-plots are in the spotlight, like the golden race of the Sovereign, the Ravager mutineers led by Taserface, and the other Ravager clans led by Sylvester Stallone's version of Stakar Ogord.

All in all Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is another great, fun movie in the MCU. I just wish it was better.

It has the usual great things, like good jokes, great action and some decent drama. However, this one has a few flaws. First off, some of the jokes don't land very well. They run with a few too long, ruining an otherwise hilarious streak the film creates for itself. I won't spoil, but they may have blew their load with this one plot wise.

Other than those few flaws though, Guardians is another good entry into the MCU. Not my favorite by any means, but one I am definitely happy I saw.

This is a widely creative story. Like the its predecessor, this is both funny and surprisingly heartfelt, considering the chaotic world of the Guardians. There is some wonderful character work in this. (The cast is great across the board.) I appreciate how much this feels like a natural extension of the first. So rarely do films and their character arcs have such clear progression.

There are a couple issues I had. It felt like Drax (Dave Bautista) was dumbed down. Also, I like new character Mantis (Pom Klementieff), but there is the issue of the changes to her character in comparison to the original comics. Writer and director James Gunn has a fondness for making big changes to comic characters. Usually that works. Here, however, here we have a martial artist female hero transformed into a meeker, more reactive-than-proactive character; problematic.

The whole thing looks great. The first film was distinctive, but this one raises the bar. The sci-fi designs are colorful and creative. The CGI in this is amazing. Really, I think this one of the greatest visual attempts in film. James Gunn's direction and incorporation of classic songs works so well.

Overall, I can't stress how good this is. I highly recommend.

This is probably one of my least favorite Marvel films, but Marvel still makes solid movies-every time. I just didn't like the bad guy. It's still fun though and worth a rental.

This sequel continues a few subplots which make us feel big empathy for characters even if it didn't have a main story until the half of the movie. When in the previous film the last chapter wasn't really good, in this scenario the final is by far the best part of the show.
One of the biggest advantages of the new Guardians(besides amazing music) was Ego, really complex and interesting character, playing by charismatic Kurt Rusell and voice acting of Rocket Raccoon by Bradley Cooper. Also visual effects of every battle and planet are done incredibly well.
There are moments when we're getting one gag after another and then the serious scene but all of them in conclusion make film more entertaining. Drax's lines were giving me smile every time, just like his relation with Mantis also Yondu and Ravagers didn't waste their screen time. Although this formula works perfectly for our adventure-comedy-space opera, I think Marvel will have to take some more risky steps forward for the GotG Vol.3.

Great movie! The first one was awesome, but this one... it's just better. The music, style, sense of humor were god damn amazing, I can't contain myself from laughter. :>

The amazing visuals (Like the 1980's took LSD and threw up rainbows) combined with great sound design make it a feast for the senses. Unlike some of the more story centered and poignant Marvel Films ie. Captain America Civil War, Guardians is more about the characters, the ride, and having big fun adventures in space. It does have it's emotional moments, hitting almost as hard as the first film, but in the end James Gunn has lovingly crafted a fun comic book movie. While that may not suit every critics taste, you'd have to be twisted to walk out of the movie without having laughed out loud a dozen times; and that alone is such a treat it's easily worth the ticket price. Very fun movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The movie has a childish element to it, but also a lot of mature comedy and action as well. This is a family movie that is worth watching again and again.

Soren Andersen must have been sitting backwards in the theater because GOTG vol 2 was a outstanding movie. I will admit a few times the jokes got a little too much, but non the less Vol2 was well worth the wait. Cant wait to watch it again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The one true complaint that can be said about this film is that it isn't quite as good as the fantastic first film. I, personally say that it's about equal when all things are considered. It's not quite as funny, but the character development means that you become invested in all of the characters more than at the end of the first film. The soundtrack is amazing as ever. It's slightly cliché in parts, but the villain is actually developed and Kurt Russell's performance solidifies him as one of the far better villains that the Marvel heroes have faced. In my opinion, the third best villain Marvel has had. His plan made sense to me and honestly I really rooted against him. The performances are excellent and it's an enjoyable film. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I liked Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 much more than Vol. 2. I would describe Vol. 2 as Star Trek 5 meets Spaceballs meets National Lampoons Vacation meets Tron: Legacy meets Dr. Phil. I just didn't like the whole search for Peter's father who turned out to be a God, and then that made Peter a God...sigh. I would have much rather dealt with building the bridgework to eventually toppling Thanos. I will be much more cautious about spending my hard earned money to watch Vol. 3, I will probably wait for it to get to the dollar theater. I hate to say that because I love the characters so much, and I was glad to see them again, but I thought there was too much anxiety, interpersonal turmoil and also Drax was too goofy and chummy. I gave it a 7 out of 10, which is probably being a little nice. Expand

Michael Rooker steals the show as Yondu... in fact, Nebula steals the show as well (Not the golden ones, the blue ones.) Their involvement with the Guardians was intriguing and ultimately ends up being something bittersweet (for us, it's **** great however) but unfortunately the writing for these characters is so great, that the Guardians themselves are overshadowed in their own movie. The pacing of this movie is off to the point that it's hard to determine where the first act starts and the second act begins... when I say the pacing, I mean the fact that it seems like it's going through the motions. Luckily, the motions in this case are still fresh because it's the second installment. This movie is funny, has action (because if it didn't it would be pretty dead plot-wise actually), and maintains the likeability of the Guardians... I was close to giving this a 7 though... But Drax and Mantis were so great together that I figured it would be stupid to give a movie where such minor characters have such great chemistry together a 7... so 8/10. Expand

More of a theme than an actual plot, and some of the storylines are resolved a little too neatly, but if you're emotionally invested in these characters you'll likely enjoy this.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This film does not have easily recognizable main villain like the first one did. But it gives a lot more information about characters. Special effects were of course amazing.Film was a lot funnier than the first one but also more emotional. But it did not ruin combat or the feeling of the battle. Cast was really well done and all the characters felt well planned. There was only one negative thing that i found in the movie. That the plot needed some serious "focus" so you know what is happening. Excellent movie. Expand

From now on, you can't tell which one is more real. The human looks like CG, the CG behaves like human beings. The story is still nonsense but could make me feel funny.
