Particularly with it's main character. A brilliant and huge twist that changes everything makes this a very different movie when it happens.

The longer it progresses the more tense and involving it becomes. It's not afraid to get dark. The way it presents every aspect is amazing. The way the general public reacts to new information shows how easily people's perceptions are twisted when they really have no idea what's going on, but truly want to. Dialog flows meticulously and is believable. The cast is fantastic and they play characters who feel like real people. Real, twisted people.

It's a masterfully written thriller. One that perhaps does go excessive with it's mature content at times, but this is a mature story so it's to be expected. This is one for an adult audience who enjoys slower, more detailed focused movies. If you're looking for a thriller with a lot of action the look elsewhere. This one is grounded in realism and manipulation as opposed to bullets and punches.

I give "Gone Girl" a 9.8/10.

As I am quite impatient person. Predictability, though, is something else - 2 or 3 times it felt like I know what will happen in the next 15 minutes. And this is not a compliment to my prediction skills.
On the upside, this might be the only problem I can find with it.
From the start I got that typical "fiction" movie feel, and I get used to it fast. Then it was all about what will happen and not about how believable the events are (like a crime fiction should be - so that's ok).

Amy Dunne: "This man might honestly, truly kill me".

The story is about Nick Dunne, as he finds out his wife has gone missing. As increasing police and media pressure mount, the facade of a loving and blissful union crumbles and amidst the lies and behavior of Nick, the question remains - did he kill her?

I have to say that David Fincher is a true master class of directing, because Gone girl is one of the best films of this year. Ben Affleck was perfect for this role, because Ben Affleck through out his career had a lot of hate from the media and the critics that mostly slammed him in every role that he was in. And that's why he was outstanding in this movie. Rosamund Pike acting in this film was pure brilliant and spectacular. She was so good in this role she might get a Oscar nomination for this. Tyler Perry in this movie was actually pretty damn good, and am so surprise saying that because Mr. Perry was in such awful films like: MADEA trilogy, Alex cross and the list goes on. But in this movie he did good.

What this movie does so brilliantly well is how we view media today, because most of the stories you hear on the news might not be true and how the media can spread lies about people and ruining they lives. Everybody always believes what the media says even if it's true or not, because we don't know what that person on the news is going through, and this movie got that message out they so perfectly.

My only problem with this movie is Neil Patrick Harris character. Now let me just say that Neil Patrick Harris wasn't terrible in the movie, but his character to me slowed the film down for me. Overall Gone Girl is a fantastic film and it's the movie to see.

The movie was boring and actually made me fall asleep on the first attempt, and on night #2 I finished it despite it being completely boring and nonsensical to find an ending even dumber then the movie itself.

As someone who has studied psychology, none of the character acted realistically, whether they were psychopaths or not. That is not how those people behave. And even if you want to call it a satire, well it showed me nothing new as I already know the media influences the mob mentality in various ways which is something I knew about 10 years ago. If you needed to see Gone Girl to figure that our you are about as smart as the moron mob depicted in the film. This film showed me nothing new, was not entertaining, was not funny, and wasn't even a good plot since it was so convoluted and predictable, and mostly laughably stupid.

This films popularity is a showcase of the stupidity of the American population and shows them to be just as dumb as the mob depicted in the film.

Terribly dumb, boring, and the most over-rated film of 2014. 3/10.

Everything about this film is absolutely stunning. The atmosphere, combined with wonderful aesthetic details, embraces you and sucks you inside the suspense of the movie, not allowing you to leave because you might miss a crucial scene (and you just never know when those might appear). The cast is brilliant, especially Rosamund Pike, who deserved her Oscar nomination in every aspect, and Tyler Perry, who proved to be an absolute scene stealer almost every time. Fincher once again proved his class and his mastery in the thriller/crime genre and I am certainly looking forward to his next work. It is truly a dreadful decision of the Academy not to give Fincher and this movie at leas a nomination, but... well, those are the Oscars for you. In any case, a brilliant work of art that manages to elevate both Fincher's skills and the genre onto a completely new level. Expand

Round about the two hour mark I found myself wishing that Nick would kill Amy, or she would kill him, or some good Samaritan would step up and kill both of them, just so I would be saved sitting through a further 29 minutes of this film.Round about the two hour mark I found myself wishing that Nick would kill Amy, or she would kill him, or some good Samaritan would step up and kill both of them, just so I would be saved sitting through a further 29 minutes of this film.

Gone Girl is not without merit. The cast does a fine job with the material, and someone obviously turned on their thinking cap while organizing the various plot points, but this isn't Hitchcock, and after about ninety minutes the film starts getting tedious. The problem of course is that neither Nick nor Amy appear to have any redeeming characteristics. It's more a matter of which one you dislike more.

Ultimately, perhaps the worst crime is the refusal of the local police to further their investigation. This is not explained and I can imagine no justification other than "convenience of the producers".

I would have given this film a 6 out of 10 till I realized that a 6 would tally up as "favorable" when my reaction is decidedly "mixed". All in all it's not a bad film, it just isn't particularly engaging.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. half-@$$ed bored housewife drivel. No logic, no direction, its just a razor-thin plot strung together by contrived scenes, characters with moron level intelligence. Tries to be deep but shallow as a puddle of piss on a road. Afleck's narcissistic wife pretty much telegraphs the twist from the get go. All the more annoying when it gives away the twist way too early in the movie. Hollywood crap custom built for pandering to femininazis. The part where she unveils her master plan and hits herself with a hammer is hilariously stupid. Expand

It's a faithful and expertly paced rendition, in-keeping with that book's uniquely nonlinear style, unreliable narration and clever use of red herrings, even if it is perhaps too cerebral for its own good and somewhat overpraised and underwhelming given the hyperbole. Nonetheless, Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck are perfectly cast - this is a breakout role for Pike and a career-best performance by Affleck. Neil Patrick Harris, on the other hand, was miscast and his character doesn't have the necessary development in the film as he does in the book. Likewise, Tyler Perry is underused. But this still another worthy entry to David Fincher's repertoire which includes similarly good adaptations of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and "Fight Club". It's certainly a must-see for fans of the book. Expand

The film also manages to be a very entertaining thriller that has you gripped from the first scene as our protagonist Nick, portrayed by Ben Affleck, tries to figure out what has happened to his wife Amy, played by Rosamund Pike who absolutely steals the show. Gone Girl is smart, slick and enthralling psychological thriller that i recommend everybody to watch. Biggest flaws is probably the fact that the film is rather long (i needed to pee real bad) and the fact that after things became clear the film changes past which I found a little jarring and the conclusion is very dream-like and takes away from the realism of which the film presented from the beginning. Fans of the book will enjoy it to as it is faithfully represented on screen but won’t love it as much due to the omission of certain lines and sequences that prevent the story from having that extra umph. Ben Affleck is also very good in his role and seems like he keeps growing as an actor (apart from as a director). The film is long but doesn´t feel like it. You want more. Its slightly corny tone at times is totally intended although it may not be for everybody. My biggest complain would be that the ending drags a little bit, which I was loving until the film ended, because suddenly I realized it didn´t leave me totally satisfied. This movie has many unexpected twists, and you can never predict what is going to happen, so it keeps surprising you every time, and it keeps you attached to the screen paying attention. It has some terrific acting (mainly by Rosamund Pike), and it's very well directed and written. I also really liked how this movie criticised media, showing how they get into real stories and change them just for getting more rating. I didn't like, though, Neil Patrick Harris in the movie. He is an excellent comedian, but he just wasn't the right person for the role. Another thing I didn't like about this film, but is something very important, is how "cold" and "soulless" it can sometimes get to be.
But anyway, don't miss Gone Girl, for sure.

Gone Girl is easily one of the best movies of 2014.

The entire main cast in this movie were excellent in this movie. Some of my favorite performances were from Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Carrie Coon and Kim Dickens but the real stars of the show were Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. Ben Affleck’s and Rosamund Pike’s performances as Nick and Amy are top-notch in this movie. They played their roles as if they were born to play their roles. It makes sense for Ben Affleck since the movie covers how his character Nick had this media hysteria about him and Ben Affleck experienced this similarly in real life during his relationship with Jennifer Lopez. They also had a great chemistry together and their Oscar performances are Oscar worthy without being too obvious.

The plot was intriguing and edge of the seat from start to finish. They made some changes from the source material in this movie but this won’t bother the fans of the book. I enjoyed the scenes that were outside both Nick and Amy’s point of view and they really moved the plot of the movie.

I am impressed how Gillian Flynn was able to translate her own book to the big screen in her screenplay. She did an impressive job as a first time screenwriter.

David Fincher’s direction is marvelous to watch. The cinematography makes this movie pleasing to see with its yellow coloring. The editing makes this movie thrilling and intriguing. And the eerie score in this movie fits the entire movie’s tone and it enhances the movie experience.

Gone Girl is an suspenseful and entertaining movie thanks to its top-notch cast performance, intriguing plot, impressive screenplay from Gillian Flynn, David Fincher’s marvelous direction, pleasing cinematography and an eerie score that fits the entire movie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have no idea how this movie could have gotten good reviews. It is long, boring, meandering, and in the end, utterly implausible.

As an example of the implausibility, Ben Affleck's character ends up acting in ways that NO human could ever conceivably act in. What is his motivation for simply moving back in with a woman who has just tried to frame him for murder and set him up for state execution, and who has just murdered a man in cold blood? Or for agreeing to stay with her after she sneakily conceives his child? There is no explanation given in the movie, and none even conceivable. We spend over two hours hearing about how Ben Affleck can't stand this psycho, and there is NO indication that his feelings change - but we're supposed to believe he just takes her back after all that? It's utterly unbelievable.

Gone Girl has more focus on the suspect of the crime and its reaction of all the criticism he or she gets from relatives, media and people. It’s truly something unique and fascinating about it, and I really enjoy watching it.

It surpassed my expectations and it really is a great movie. I never felt bored at all and I was constantly focused on the movie. One of the main aspects that I really love about Gone Girl is that the structure is nonlinear, it keeps jumping back and forward in time and it gives the movie tempo and depth. It’s the same with the story. There’s much focus on the perfect relationship and what that means and what disadvantages that results into. When it comes to the actors are they are superb, especially Rosamund Pike as Amy Dunne. Her character is so fake but at the same time a champion when it comes to lying. It’s her greatest performance to date. Ben Affleck plays a more innocent character and he really fits that role. The first act is amazing. It’s so mysterious and it feels much more like a crime movie. But the second act lost all that, which I don’t like at all.

This is a highly exciting and mysterious movie.

Gone Girl gets a 7.5/10.

First of all, the characters and their relationships are very well developed, establishing the moral of each one, representing their own stereotypes and then breaking them; second, the narration style is preserved, immersing the viewer in the game/conflict between Nick and Amy, creating a serious reflexion about how marriage changes people or how people change for their marriage; and third, the twists in the storyline that mess with your mind. David Fincher definitely was a great choice for directing this crime novel, and we see him in all its glory, such as Se7en or Fight Club. The problem is that Gone Girl is more than that, is a combination with a psychological thriller (characteristic more distinguishable in the book), and is here where Fincher fails; the torment and questioning that invades not only the protagonists, but also Go and Amy's parents, its not so clear in the film. Another huge problem is Ben Affleck, he makes Nick a static character, its impossible to empathize with him, though same parts of the movie requires it, others not. Nevertheless, Rosamund Pike is magnificent as Amy, which compensates everything. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It plays with the viewer. The film shows a polarity inside a couple, which is surrounded by the society's point of view in front of the situation they are able to see; thing that maintains intrigue inside the film and keeps the viewer in a constant sense of "What will happen?". The problem arises in the movie ending, leaving all the situation in "Is this all of it?". It is a loose end that is constant across the movie but highlighted in the final part; not much problem but crucial at the moment of realizing that the story has more potential than the one exposed. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Gone Girl is a phenomenal psychological suspense thriller reminiscent of a lost Hitchcockian style. Gillian Flynn perfectly adapts her novel to the silver screen with a modern, paranoia-inducing story that David Fincher directs exquisitely. The cinematography and editing help accent the dark tone of the film coupled with the eerie and instantly iconic score.

The greatest part of the film, which is difficult to achieve with its unbelievable script, is the acting by Rosamund Pike. With her best performance to date she brings us Amy Dunne, an empathetic, intelligent and borderline sociopathic character that makes you both sob for her yet cringe at her actions. Such a wonderfully dynamic character.

There was nothing much that I could complain about this film although I find that a general audience of this century may find the narrative to drag a bit as little to no action happens through the second act of the film. However, that does not detract from the fact that Gone Girl is a brilliantly made film that deserves acknowledgement and should be a strong contender during Awards Season.

The Score by Atticus Toss and Trent Reznor is so intelligent for a thriller genre.

“ David [Fincher] was at the chiropractor and heard this music that was inauthentically trying to make him feel OK, and that became a perfect metaphor for this film … The challenge was, simply, what is the musical equivalent of the same sort of façade of comfort and a feeling of insincerity that that music represented? [My primary aim was] to instill doubt [and] remind you that things aren’t always what they seem to be. ”

Rosamund Pike gave one of her best performances till date reminding me of Sharon Stone (Basic Instinct )

Its a masterpiece for sure but not the best of the year.
I'm actually waiting for Goofs(mistakes) in the movie! (Is there any?)

I'll just quote this

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The misanthropic ingredients in the "Gone Girl" blender result in an unappetizing drink smacking bitter.

"Gone Girl" is what stoners call a 'Goof,' i.e. a stupid joke played on those high to have a laugh at their expense. A step further; "Gone Girl" is self-reflexive and abets itself. The script for the film is part of the story of the film which is a soapy, broad slice of rancid Americana.

Simply, if Affleck/Pike were to snuggle and watch a film within "Gone Girl" it would be "Gone Girl."

"Gone Girl" is a social/media satire, and could have been one of the best ever except it both takes itself too seriously and relentlessly rubs the audience's nose in ugliness and extreme cynicism.

The filmmaker's tongues are also too far in the cheek. There are dumb as posts Ozark Dwellers/Thieves. A caricature 'Bad Girl' who gets away with murder. The insensitive, cheating dumbbell hubby. The beyond-catty Nancy Grace stand-in Missi Pyle. Even the choice of openly gay in non-cinema life Neil Patrick Harris as an obsessed former suitor underscores the satire. Like what you see? According to the filmmakers they're you.

Those who rant and rail about the lapses in logic, nuances of plot, and motivation miss the point. There is no point except to allow junk-media-obsessed America a cold hard look in a mirror. Stand back and inspect the story. Scene after scene, this film is so over-the-top as to be laughable. Except the joke, told by elitists, is on you.

Though meant to be acerbic, this satire bites too deep into the hand that feeds it. "Gone Girl" is terribly misguided. It misses greatness through lack of restraint and balance.

I picked up the novel just to see if they had done the author an injustice, and was astonished that people rave about the book. Ugh: this is what movies have become? And this is great fiction? Pretentious, preposterous, and with a Lifetime Achievement Award for Bad Endings in a thriller, both book and film division. Gillian Flynn is not Dashiell Hammett, she's Patricia Cornwell light, and the film is a lot more Brian DiPalma than it ever will be Hitchcock. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. An amazing adaptation of a complex book, in which Fincher manages to present the facts and characters quite well. The way he starts and finishes the film is a perfect cycle to the story of a woman who disappears and the more we watch the more we learn about her and who she really is. Pike is extraordinary. She's so good that you might love Amy, even if she's not a very good girl as Amazing Amy is. The way she plays this character will eventually please you and make you like her. Affleck is fine but he completely vanishes because Pike steals the show. Besides, his performance never convinced me that Nick Dunne was capable of killing Amy so since the beginning I thought they were either planning something together or Amy was the responsable for everything that happens. Harris role is not very well adapted too but as a whole Fincher did a stunning piece of work, along with Fynn. Expand

ThisThis movie was great. I really enjoyed it. I would recommend it to anyone, but keep one thing in mind, if you're well trained as a consumer of entertainment and like the classic hero gets rewarded or villain gets punished; stay at home. This movie is not for you.

On the surface, it is filled with twists, and putting the twist in the middle (I saw this one coming, I kept ignorant about this movie/book until I saw the movie to reserve the effect), then twists at the end.

The final twist isn't much of a twist if you use Real life as an example. Life is ugly, and more often than not, murders go unsolved, and the bad person gets away with it. It's only Hollywood and the fairy-tail narrative we see on the news that has the bad guys always getting what they deserve and good is rewarded. I caught myself several times, laughing out about how a particular set of events happened, or how twisted a character can be!

The supporting roles were fantastically done! The only reason why this isn't a 10/10, is I have an equally hard time fully becoming immersed in emotional strive portrayed by Ben Affleck (equally so with Tom Cruise) The rest of the movie Ben Affleck is entirely believable, but he was only 90% the way there for me. I'd give it a 9.7/10 if I could.

Deeper down the movie takes a misogynistic tone, but that is superficial. Sure it's a woman who fakes abuse, and all that, but it also puts a truly rare role for a woman into the forefront. A truly disturbed and evil woman. She isn't evil because a man cheated on her and pushed her over the top, she's not evil because she was abused, raped, or otherwise victimized. She is the one who victimizes. Thus, this story spins from being misogynistic to truly feminist, and in a beyond entertaining way.

You leave not even aware that this story was deeper than it was. You leave the movie thinking "damn that was a great movie" then when you think about it later, or read some of the criticisms you can see that they come from a place of missing the point entirely.

This movie deserves the positive reviews.

Rosamund Pike - brilliant.
Tyler Perry - Loved his smaller role
Carrie Coon - **** tastic
Kim Dickens - Loved her role and ups and downs of her character's dealing with the case.
Emily Ratajkowski - MY GOD SHE IS HOT

This movie is worth seeing, and now that I read the book (took me 4 days) I'd recommend that book as well. Both are Brilliant and the slight differences in the movie are perfectly fine by me.

I asked my wife (who read the book) and she said that in the book they did a lot better at making you believe it was him. That may be part of the reason for my dislike.
Overall the movie was mediocre. The acting was ok, and for the most part the story was good. Not great, but good, could have been a lot better.
The big beef I had with this movie, was the terrible ending... I mean commmme on! Like anyone would actually just stay with her, give me a f'in break! Made this psychological thriller turn lame in my eyes.

Wish I would have waited until DVD, not worth the money at the theatre.

It is particularly easy to guess which direction the plot will be heading, but ignoring the minor flaws and some illogical parts towards the second half of the film, the dark, mysterious psychological development of the characters, funny and brutal at sometimes, the flashback editing at the beginning, stylish cinematography, ambient and eerie scores are the major contributions for the film to be one of the most masterpiece marriage thriller in decades. Not much to mention on Ben Affleck, but the surprisingly frightening and psychopathic performance from Rosamund Pike might drive anger of one's nerves, and come to a conclusion that she is the perfect role. At the end, audiences might try to sense out what is right and wrong, the morality behind a true modern-day marriage; but to feel upset as it has to end although hoping for more tricks from the characters after a lengthy run. Rosamund Pike acts brilliantly, though that could be said about the entire female cast, and she's able to hold the tension while playing essentially two different characters. Ben Affleck's a bit blunt but I guess that's his style. And man, I still can't watch Neil Patrick Harris without thinking of Barney.

Fincher presented us with a great work of form and managed to keep the substance alive. Now, a couple of plot twists were a little too expedite in my opinion, but all in all it deserves the praise.

If you’re planning on seeing David Fincher’s adaptation of Gone Girl for a date night movie, The Best of Me may be a more appropriate choice. Gone Girl captivates audiences while simultaneously making them question just who the person sitting next to them really is.

Gillian Flynn’s thriller novel, Gone Girl hit the big screens October 3 with a recognizable cast.

Ben Affleck plays Nick Dunne, a man under suspicion when his wife disappears on the morning of their anniversary. Audiences follow Affleck throughout the beginning of the film, trying to pin him as a mourning husband or a murderous one.

Similar to many of his other roles, Affleck plays the Boston-boy jock or your typical guy’s guy. Affleck puts on a great performance, being able to make audiences love and hate Nick Dunne in all of Gone Girl’s mysterious confusion.

Affleck’s on screen wife, Amy Dunne, played by Rosamund Pike, makes an appearance midway through the movie adding relief to a slow start. While the movie lives up to its thriller genre expectation, Gone Girl drags on a bit in the beginning only to gain a solid momentum more than halfway through.

Neil Patrick Harris and Tyler Perry’s appearances midway through add to this newfound energy lacking in the beginning.

Harris’s character comes just in time to add chaos as Amy Dunne’s pathetic highschool lover. Perry swoops in as a high profile defense lawyer for accused husbands, adding comical relief in a usually dark movie. Both Harris and Perry freshen up Gone Girl through its mid movie slump.

While the bulk of Gone Girl is focused on what happened to Amy Dunne, it also highlights other subthemes such as how media portrays missing people and the suspects involved. The similarities between Gone Girl’s talk show personnel, Ellen Abbott, and Nancy Grace are all too alike to be coincidental, adding an inside joke to anyone who has watched Nancy Grace.

Gone Girl is worthwhile movie to see if you have two and a half hours to spare. This thriller leaves the audience with answers yet still hangs titillating questions over their head while they walk out of the theatre, eager to discuss what was just seen.

As the film slowly unfolds it is clear to see an unhappy marriage is at the root of Amy Dunne’s disappearance.

Gone Girl spins the thriller genre, walking audiences through slanted media and the foggy truth all the while not knowing who to trust, even the main character.

Ben Affleck, the media accused husband is interrogated by a woman detective, Kim Dickens, who cannot indict him or set him unaccounted till the very last five minutes of the movie. The husband who committed adultery with his young student is framed by his revenging gone girl and consequently trapped by a media that relentlessly accuses him of killing. The first half of the movie focuses on the more and more entangled husband, and the second half is for the gone girl that reveals her diabolical plot and disappearance till being robbed by neighbors which forces her to go for sheltering at a former boyfriend luxury residence. Again she frames him and kills him as defending herself from rape. There is much that is clever. However, there is sexual dialogue (Ben talking about her incredible amazing vagina to friends) and some brief scenes that are not necessary to the plot (for example, oral sex)... Yes my husband tells our friends about my vagina all the time -haha. This is the kind of stuff Hollywood thinks it has to have to be cutting edge and "intelligent". Anyway, the movie feeds you information that keeps altering your perception of the truth-sand something somewhat interesting. Tyler Perry did a great job and so did the other actors. But I just couldn't get past Doogie Houser as the wacko who gets wacked. He is talented but they should have cast a new face. It might as well have been Nicholas Cage. Something like this for me is not entertainment. Poor Jennifer Garner in Alexander's Horrible Day--I cant help but wonder what Ben and Jen talk about at dinner! Genre shenre, who cares. The people leaving the theatre I was in looked disappointed and deflated. Expand

It seems the author got a good story started but there are so many absurdities, plot holes and nonsensical actions in the last 30 minutes that it just ruins the plot and everything that came before it.

All the legitimate questions as to the implausibility of Amys story asked by Detective Boney were all just brushed aside, probably so they could cash in with a sequel. With a less daft ending it would have been a much better film in my opinion.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. GONE GIRL finally arrives in the cinema here, so what could be more appropriate than Fincher’s vastly anticipated and razor-sharp dissection of modern marriage/relationship for a Halloween night? The aftermath of this trendsetting thriller can impact abidingly on one’s memory not only for its plot twist but also a brave ending which dares to defy the accepted mode of “perpetrator gets punished in the end”, and intrigues viewers to inspect our own quotidian bearings and give an inscrutable glimpse to our partner.

Adapted from Gillian Flynn’s bestseller of the same name, who is also the sole person credited for the screenplay here, so it secures there is no creative discordance as far as the storyline is concerned. GONE GIRL is already Fincher’s highest grossing film in North America, surpasses THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON (2008, 7/10)’s $127 millions record. It is also Fincher’s third collaboration with Trent Reznor (from Nine Inch Nails) and Atticus Boss, after THE SOCIAL NETWORK (2010, 9/10) and THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO (2011, 8/10). Prominently the duo’s droning score conjures up an underplayed perturbing ambience which sits perfectly along Fincher’s aloof palette and the central performances from Affleck and Pike.

Before watching this film: Have not read the book.

Pros: 1. Strong performances all around.
2. A strong story that critiques the media circus around missing person cases. Look out for the satirising of Oprah's interviews with controversial people, say Lance Armstrong.

Con: 1. At two-and-a-half hours long, the film could have been sped up and shortened by about 15 min.

4/5 (No half scores) - Good enough to pay to watch it in the cinema.

Luckily I didn't read the novel before seeing the movie. The film was directed by David Fincher and is based on the book by Gillian Flynn who also wrote the screenplay adaptation of her novel. Despite its extraordinary length, i.e. almost 2 and ¾ hours, the film manages to hold the audience’s intetest. Unfortnately, and notwithstanding good acting by Mr. Affleck and Ms. Pike, there are glaring flaws in the scrip that are never explained or accounted for and, in most instances, simply don’t make sense. To elaborate further would give away the plot and that is someithing I prefer not to do. Suffice it to say that the film, after it ends, leaves open many unanswered questions and fails to resolve blatant inconsistencies. I give the movie a 7 noting tha the film could have been more enjoyable to watch if there had been less things so difficult to reconcile and understand. Expand

Not aware of the underlying story going into the film- the dense thematic nature of this picture rewarded me quite succinctly. Affleck holds his own and the extraordinary Pike stands out as one of the year's most persuasive, haunting, provocative, and masterful performances. The characters perpetually evolve and morph before our eyes and perceptions (which, ultimately, becomes the prevailing theme the film succeeds to get at with a particular eye towards the "shock value" ideology of a 21st century electronic media). The premises of overwrought suspenseful machinery coupled with perspective flashbacks and, above all, a sardonic sense of humility within very clever and with great wit and verve human dialogue. Notwithstanding a few plot holes near the end- the film stands out in its gorgeous (Hitchcock gothic) cinematography, adroit acting, and compendious execution of deep subject matter (namely, marital and communal knowledge; the epistemology of identity of the self and the other; irrationality and truth).
