so guess pros and cons, PROS: can see the fights, kong and godzilla are just awesome, the human stuff is actully pretty ok compared to the previous ones, hollow earth is so cool to see, (redacted) was also pretty awesome (a spoiler so wont say but if youve seen you should know who im talking about), the sounds are top tier, the relationship of kong and the little girl brings a smile to ones face, the creature designs are much better, tons of brainless fun

CONS: ill concede the script could use a bit more work, the human stuff is still the most boring part of the movie (i mean thats expected), do wish godzilla and kong had more reasons to fight then "they have a grudge, and both want to be king"

honestly not much to say agianst, if your looking for just a fun movie with great action scenes, awesome monster fights, then yeah come see this you will not regret it, if you want complexity then look elsewhere, but i can say i cannot wait for more as it looks like they are taking lessons so maybe soon we will get a monster movie that satisfys almost everyone

I wasn't expecting anything amazing...but even with that this was a complete let down. Some of the SFX were terrible (the water running of kong's face for example).
But the story and more so, characters just completely ruined it and were not even in the realm of being remotely believable.

This needed to be a story about kong and godzilla and instead it was filled up with pointless characters such as two high school kids that break into a top level tech factory and try cracking the security on the computer of the most highly advanced project in the world. Seriously?!

The teenage girl is just BAD! The dominant 'alpha'...as a teenage girl. The teenage boy is a bumbling fool. The guy researcher is a bumbling fool that then suddenly saves kong and knows how to fly an experimental ship. The daughter of the tech dude is an alpha male that just offers nothing to the story. The only half decent character is the female researcher.

The motives of all these characters are horrible. The story is just plain pointless.

Just don't bother with this one.

It's akin to the first predator vs alien movie. Just an absolute waste of time and I found myself not turning off only because I'd committed 30 minutes of my time to it hoping it'd get better. Sesame Street is more interested that this junk.

And there's hardly enough fight scenes to justify people talking this up as 'watching it to see the fight scenes'. There's more fight in my 1 foot chihuahua than this movie!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As with the problem with most of these movies, the humans play a central role in ruining the experience. It follows the trend of Marvel, having characters who's only job is comic relief and Ex Machinas that clearly had no thought put into them. This wouldn't be as bad if the jokes actually landed. When it comes to fights I would expect a movie titled "Godzilla vs Kong" to have more of just that. Instead we're given 2 fights in which are both ended anticlimactically. You can argue that there were other fights, but those are simply just our Monsters wrecking shop on inferior humans/monsters. When we're not watching what's admittedly good fight scenes, we're stuck with the humans. This takes you out of the fast paced action for exposition in which most isn't explained. it's completely fine to have a one or two characters built for comic relief, but when everyone is made to be a comedian it becomes a snooze fest fast. The best scene to describe this movie is when Gidorah kills only one of the characters encased in a small room instead of doing what you'd expect and wrecking shop on everything in his way. He simply swiped at a man, and turns away. This of course leaves the Ex Machina providers alive to pour liquor on what I can only assume is a multi thousand dollar control panel, allowing Mecha Godzilla's weapons system to fail. Yes, that's right. A multimillion, if not trillion dollar war machine is operated by one single console and has absolutely no back up access points. It's completely absurd decisions like this in which spelled this movie's downfall. I'm confused as to why we allow movies to give us the bare minimum effort and we in return fill their pockets to the brim. If you like monsters fighting, I recommend you watch King of the Monsters. Keep your money, this movie is only worth clips on YouTube.. Expand

The actual fights between Godzilla and Kong are good, but the rest is pretty mediocre, including the action. Human characters usually aren't the focus of these movies, but previous entries at least had passable casts. Meanwhile there isn't a single human character in this film I actually liked; and that includes the ones which came back from previous films. A large chunk of this movie is incredibly boring, with very little monster stuff, just these quirky, annoying characters being annoying. The supplemental action between the titular rivalry is poorly choreographed and just really dull. All in all it's a fun movie to watch with friends for the first time, but there's really nothing left after that. Pretty disappointing. Expand

We finally have the release of Godzilla vs. Kong. The rumble in the jungle or more like rumble in the major city and water scenes. Massive destruction and the most epic monsters of the last century finally meet in this century. You must be able to tell my excitement or utter boredom to watch a movie released on a Wednesday; yet, here we are talking about Godzilla vs. Kong. It's the historic next chapter of two icons meeting to balance the Earth's scales while also destroying most things humanity has built. Let's see if it was worth the wait.

First, there is way too much talking in this movie. We all know what we came to see! Godzilla! Run, run, run! Oh no, it's King Kong! Save the woman he holds in his hands! Yet, the filmmakers again found it necessary to just talk talk talk talk talk talk. You have gigantic CGI Monsters to entertain us! Quit with the scenes of Eleven or the cute deaf child and mom and give us the epic fights we deserve. No actor in this movie is bad, but they also aren't memorable in the slightest. The only thing I remember is that they are holding us back from - just like I'm holding this review back to talk about nonsense - the major event Kong vs. Godzilla.

The two heroes are one word... impressive. The scenery - impressive. It feels a bit "borrowed" from Avatar but impressive nonetheless. I mean there's the total and absolute destruction of Toyko. I didn't realize the city was that large but who cares. I mean probably hundreds of thousands of people died in these battles but who's keeping track. I know the filmmakers aren't. They went full on DC Movies with the destruction in this one. Yes, it makes for an entertaining movie, except we could've stood even more battle scenes and less watch Kong run scenes. This movie was more like a King Kong therapy session rather than a battle for Earth at times. Also, I wish they featured Godzilla a bit more. Yes, we've seen his movies to sleep, but he is a star of the movie... treat him like one.

Long story short, you know what you're coming for. Don't get brand new out here and I might not even suggest risking your life in the theaters. Action and Monster fans you'll find this worth a big box but everyone else you'll definitely get a big bowl of entertainment, especially watching on HBO Max, out of this movie. Whether you're a King Kong fan or a Godzilla fan you'll enjoy... once they shut up and stop talking us through the plot.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly I feel this movie had so much potential but it missed its mark by a mile plus some. Don’t get me wrong the movie is climatic and has a story line you can follow with decent graphics but the build up for this movie was overhyped I feel a couple changes this movie is one for the age a classic to this crappy decade. I saw a angry fat lizard and a man in a monkey costume fight. I feel if kong had more of a “kong”look like In 2005 starring Naomi Watts, Jacc Blacc and , Adrien Brody it would’ve gave a more aggressive look instead of a ape man walking 50 feet tall speaking of heights let’s not start on how nerfed Godzilla had to be to compete in this movie or be I’m alone it will really be a shame if he stays this size in future movies as in Godzilla i and Godzilla king of monsters he stood a grand (2014) height: 355 ft tall length: 550ft 4in then in (2019) heigh: 393ft tall length: 582ft where in Godzilla vs Kong Godzilla comes in with a height of “ 177 meters” and Kong coming in at around “107 meters” but honestly if we take a closer look they probably stand if I’m being nice 200 to 300 feet tops and that’s if I’m being nice major nerf on Godzilla’s part but kong like I said before just didn’t evolve as much as Godzilla and I know that there’s some speculation about physics and gravity and food to keep up with there weight etc but it’s a movie we know it’s not real we can bring non logical things into play and still have rules for it make it make sense that’s an invalid excuse and it’s contradicting as hell. I will jump bacc to that later but let’s talk about the actors and visuals all in all the graphics of the movie were nice there were some iffy parts but other than that well done drew me in grabbed my attention as an audience now acting I know human story line doesn’t matter in a titan vs titan championship match we don’t care who gets the girl in this one just shows me the plasma beams and beating chests but the main characters we were given in this movie lacced emotion and skill with big open eyes and powerful facial expressions they let me know I’m watching a movie about a giant monkey suit man and a cranky over weight gecco if I’m being brutally honest it was a movie with a bunch of amateurs with to many close ups with a couple of point of view shots trying to get paid. Also where is the security “apex” after building there super weapon in the movie had all the money in the world it seemed like training with other titans perfecting there technology constructing a metal strong enough to fight with Godzilla that they forgot to hire more than to people to protect the base as to where 3 kids could sneak into the facility and let there number one reason for being a company blow up in there fave it’s like they quit and became civilians who stayed to watch the post fight at the end of the movie Though it did have its moments in the movie that were actually good you can tell this was a movie for a beginning crew cough cough an “ Adam wingard vision” instead of a very much needed “Michael Dougherty” vision lots of work that needs to be done you can tell it’s not a legendary Godzilla you could compare to the one we saw fight king ghidorah with at least 30 fighter jets swarming Godzilla like flies while he enters the arena to save emma with red eyes instead of brown it seems the atomic explosion took a lot out of the big guy and hopefully his offspring is out working hard and could be 2xs the size he ever was because as of two years ago Godzilla would’ve never been able to step one foot on a navy ship let alone let missiles hurt him if they would’ve kept Godzilla at that same intensity and gave kong some more gorilla like features while beefing him up as well this movie would’ve been been 1000 percent better with a decent actors who know a camera is going to be recording them and an criticizing audience watching this could be a banger but fr night it’s a meh wouldn’t spend money on anything else like it unless some major changes took into play mechagodzilla was dope tho mechanic ghidorah next don’t let me down… again! As a snyder fan I very much enjoy these types of movies, been a fan of old godzilla and kong films for years so seeing these 4 updated films and linked together in a huge saga is more than any fan can want.

I enjoyed the movie for what it is and that is a straight up monster movie, the plot is a bit up and down and I do believe maybe and extra 1hr would have helped but when godzilla and kong are on screen it does make up for it when you have two titans take each other on.

I want more #MoreMonsterVerse and #RestoreTheSnyderVerse for DC.

My first ever movie review in general!
After 2020 being a complete **** full of unfortunate events, I have finally been able to watch the most anticipated film of both the year and the monsterverse series and man I have tons of things to say on most of the pros while only couple cons.
Pros:
1. Well done fights scenes
2. Well done visuals and CGI
3. Improvement to the fight’s lightning such as a the aircraft carrier fight during the day and the neon lights in hong kong.
4. Well done directing (courtesy of Adam Wingard)
5. Well Done musical score (courtesy of Junkie XL)
6. and bringing back the classic titan from the 1900s such as MechaGodzilla.
Cons:
1. The human plots ofc is lacklusting in some ways while improving little bit drastically.
2. Should’ve explored a little more on godzilla and kong’s history before meeting again.
3. One of the most cringiest human characters I ever seen in the series is Bernie Hayes which got me like bruh moments.
4. And one of the newest human characters that never got be much depth into is Ren Serizawa whose appear to be late son of the previous films Ishirō Serizawa. Tbh, I knew who he was when I figured why he works for the apex cypernatics because he wants to avenge his father’s death against godzilla and this film never got to explain much about him. Either way he was short lived who he is.

Either way, with the pros outweighing the humans parts, this is yet the one of the greatest monsterverse films ever made to me and I fully enjoyed the film in the theaters on the opening day and felt like the greatest way to fully experience the fights and all.
Giving it 9.5/9.9 out of 10

The only things I didn't like were the new comic relief characters and cheesy villains. But surprise, surprise. Humans are the worst part of a godzilla movie, who'da thunk it. Good thing there's less screentime focused on just them than ever. This movie has cemented the quadrilogy as a GOAT package as far as my household is concerned. Haven't felt this satisfied since Endgame. Can't wait to see how they try to top this.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Great fighting scenes good graphics. Definitely want to watch it again for the fight scenes. Giving it a 8 for forced writing and the trio of adventures they didn't need to add them to the movie it did nothing for the film at all in my opinion. They would of done better going over more about kong and godzillas ancestors then what they decided to go with. Expand

Gone is the sense of self seriousness of previous entries, what we have is pure, unadulterated monster mash for the ages. Do you want a wrestling match between Kong And Godzilla? You got it. With great effects works, the rubber monsters conflict of yore are truly revived without any pretenses. Obviously, the human elements are still the worst part, but it's always been the case with these Kaiju flicks. Again, looking at its box office numbers all over the world, it may be the film that revive the public's interests in going to the cinemas. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Absolutely loved this movie. Not perfect, as it touched on a few story points that meant literally nothing or went no where, but as a fan of the monsterverse, this one delivered. Everything I wanted to see from Godzilla and Kong fighting was epic, even if the story around it was a little less important. The big fight at the end was awesome, totally loved seeing the -verse expanded a bit, and the Hollow Earth could open up a ton of further development if this one delivers the way I hope it does!

It improves on almost every major weakness of the previous film, King of the Monsters, with better pacing, less obnoxious quipping, and fights that are not only easier to see but are also more creatively shot, better choreographed, and completely uninterrupted. An easy must-watch for fans of the genre. The main flaw of the film is its human cast, which is inoffensive and serviceable, but not very memorable; the actors' performances are all fine enough (Rebecca Hall does especially well) but none of their characters are given much to work with. Viewers will be more likely to empathize with Godzilla or Kong than any of the people, and that's okay, because that's exactly the point- GvK is not a human drama that just happens to have monsters in it, it's a monster adventure that just happens to have humans in it. It didn't introduce any of the new characters or why we should care. The pacing was awful and it didn't explain anything as to what happened after the events of KOTM. I actually enjoyed KOTM and this movie was a mess. The fight scenes between Godzilla and King Kong were fun, Mechagodzilla was interesting but I think could have been cooler. But overall added zero to the overall story. And what the heck is hollow earth? I feel like they sort of explained it in KOTM, but this movie acted as if it was just a matter of fact. Expand

It seems like half of the movie was devoted to finding Kong’s axe. Of course I’m willing to suspend disbelief while watching a monster movie, but the movie-maker has got to try to be somewhat reasonable. The whole Hollow Earth realm seemed like it was imagined by a child. The Madison character (and that entire story arc) contributed absolutely nothing. The only thing I liked about it was that there was an actual winner (unlike Batman v. Superman). Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm stuck between giving this game a 7 or an 8. I am sure that everyone who watches these movies are only looking for a lot of Godzilla vs Kong. Well I'm gonna tell you that there are plenty of Godzilla vs Kong in this movie. There are plenty of negatives I would give this movie and that is, I'm gonna spoil it a little here, there are 2 groups of humans that are the main focus of this movie other than Godzilla and Kong. The group where there are only 3 people including Millie Bobby Brown's character goes through these filler garbage of a plot that is no where near interesting and is just used to show you the real enemy and that's it. The other group's plot was pretty good and was no where near bad or even amazing, it's just good. The other kinda negative about this movie is the characters, they are probably the most one dimensional characters but then again I will not include this as a negative because who the hell cares about the humans right. The main thing I most definitely despise about this movie is the ending, the ending felt so rushed that you're like "wtf it ended there??" and because there is no post credit scene or even a end credit scene, it made the ending a lot more disappointing. Other than that, this movie is still **** great, the CGI is incredible and the final fight is so satisfying that you can't help but rewatch it over and over again. That's my review Expand

Man when the action hits the VS part of its name sake I think it actually becomes pretty great. There’s a lot to take in with this one that has the cast going to even more fantastic places than the previous installments. There is a feast for the eyes to take in in almost every shot and that lends its self really well with the fun you can tell is being had on screen from the cast. It can drag a little in the “humans now on screen telling us what’s happening” parts. As serious as the plot can be all in all it’s still a campy good time. If you like blockbuster CGI movies and where at all impressed with the previous movies I’d give this a shot. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is Michael Bay Transformers-level dumb. There's a set of annoying human side characters whose story is mostly pointless. Physics, scale and common sense are thrown out the window. At one scene the 2 are fighting on an aircraft carrier, in another they are taller than all of the buildings in Hong Kong. I did like that we got to see the inner Earth part of the story, but why did they need Kong to lead them down a hole where gravity does most of the work? And who or what built the shrine/temple down there? A giant Axe makes us believe that the apes are capable of making tools and building structures? Then why didn't Kong or any of his kind do anything like that on Skull Island for thousands of years? Also, this story reminds me so much of Batman vs Superman, where a conflict is quickly forced between the two headliners and just as quickly resolved. One super-awesome nod to Pacific Rim was the "pilot!" linking with the mechagodzilla. So I'm hoping that's where they go next... but good God, get some better writers. Expand

I feel like it was significantly more focused on King, but the title still captures what this movie is all about. I think it's worth watching and I genuinely don't understand the negative criticism the movie is getting from the minority of folks. I think people are expecting a lot for a movie that originates from intentionally over the top monster-beat-em-up fun. This movie was always for the fans and not meant to contend for any film awards. From what I recall, Wingward was very up front about this that he was staying true to the original characters and even dropped easter eggs in their fight sequences. He also reiterated that this was supposed to be a fun movie for all ages and demographics to enjoy. I think he even said verbatim that he wanted a child to love it as much as their parents. Expand

The fights were great, the rest ranged from bad to imbecilic. They went full on magic with this adaptation, both for the titans but also for the planet and "technology". They even suggest that Kong made statues and an ampitheater in the past, as well as weapons and was able to figure out a power system. No, I am not kidding. This was 110% style, -10% substance. The writer(s) have no concept of physics, such as what happens when a person is instantly accelerated to a high velocity. Or standing in an area being bombarded with raidoactive breath. But the highest WTF moments were the SUDDEN 'natural' gravity inversion when it would have to be a gradient, Godzilla being able to tunnel to the core of the planet in 60 seconds, or Kong using the axe to block the beam but then raising it above is head yet the beam does not follow a straight line to Kong's face, but is 'drawn' to the axe still. I nearly forgot that bones of the dead do not a supercomputer make. Whomever wrote this should go back and finish gradeschool then they can dream of a highschool diploma. Even the CGI was very hit and miss. The same effect or object could be amazingly bad in one scene, only to be great in the next, and then go right back to cringe. In some scenes they forgot the ambient occlusion totally, making it look really amateurish as it there was global lighting but only for one creature (mostly Kong). I would suggest a good four to five drinks in you before watching this, and then just ignoring everything that is not action. Do that and you may like it more than I did. But you will still likely never want to see this again. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This got so bad it actually crosses the line from 'a utter joke' into 'utterly offensive'. when you have a 300m lizard and a 300m ape, that were only previously about 100m, start having a wrestling match and then screaming in each others faces like goddamn human children, it's clear the film makers have no respect for these monumental characters. you can add to that things like the magical axe, and the woman who thinks it's a good idea to shoot at the calm giant ape rather than just hot foot it out of there... I honestly don't know how they could have possibly made this any worse.
this is not only an insult to the Japanese Godzilla, it is an insult to Legendary's own godzilla movies that came before this.

Trash. Story is garbage, acting is crap, but there is so little script, not much to judge on. Kong and Godzilla keep changing size, so there is no perspective. CGI is kinda cool, but that is it. Flush it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As is with the rest of the Monsterverse movies, this particular one completely hit home with what I was expecting. We discovered things that previous movies had teased such as the hollow earth (a call back from No.2 when Godzilla was effectively revived) and had a definitive answer as to who the King really is. Kong resides inside the core and Godzilla remains king of the monsters! Also, let's not forget zilla's laugh during the fight. That shook me! Expand

Absolutely loved this film. So much fun, I was never bored, the humans weren’t even that bad, Brian Tyree Henry being the standout. Awesome film
