You shouldn't watch Shin Godzilla for Godzilla alone. He's not really the star of the film—Yaguchi and the rest of his human adversaries are. They credibly resist the end of the world with ingenuity and teamwork, making Shin Godzilla just as winningly optimistic as it is pleasurably eccentric. Read full review

So, yes, Shin Godzilla is dialogue-heavy, and sometimes it fails to make much sense. And after that knockout battle scene in the middle of the film, the end conflict is a little anticlimactic, especially for Western audiences used to a lone hero sacrificing themselves to save the day instead of the successful execution of a coordinated team effort. A great return for the only company that can make a Godzilla film right. Godzilla looks awesome and the climax was one of the best I've seen. If you want a modern Godzilla film, this is my top pick.

First off anime fans and godzilla fans will love this movie
the shin in the title really tells you the meaning behind the movie when you watch it all the way to the end.

jumping from action to whats the government going to do was like watching a scenario made me feel like i was apart of the camera man documenting the actions.
the destruction was stellar and spectacular, the cg never disappointed me.
i was so excited i cant believe the last time i was this excited for a movie was when i saw independence day at the theater in 1996.
the directors shows his anime direction from many scenes and music from evangelion. one of the greatest anime movies i ever saw.
this movie in my growing up seeing Godzilla through out the years from a terror to a commercial product like hello kitty is greatly elated with the new take on direction. i cant say nothing bad about this movie and i find in my eyes it was a perfect execution to a Godzilla movie.… Expand

Es muy buena película pero en algunas partes se te hace lenta pero cuando son escenas de Godzilla ahí sí que disfrutas la peli lo que más disfrute fue su sondtrack que es de los mejores que escuche recomiendo mucho verla si tienen la oportunidad

Toho has released a new Godzilla to the masses to bring the new life to one of the oldest franchises. They have tapped one of the most famous Anime directors Hideaki Anno for the honor, as he has called himself a big Godzilla fan. Shin Godzilla is a very difficult movie to review. It is a very complicated movie that touches on multiple facets of the Godzilla mythos, while at the same time, is trying to explain and bring this franchise to the new masses, and the new fans.

Where the movie shines, is in showing Godzilla's power and misunderstanding. That is very well portrayed in the beginning of the movie, when we are first introduced to this new creature. Movie is more focused however on dealing with this new threat, and that in itself is not a problem. Problem however arises as one could say is that there are just too many moving parts to follow, lot of which are not necessary not so much for the plot of the movie, but are not necessarily needed to be introduced to.

Movie technically has four or five main players which movie should focus on, yet for some reason, they are getting away from that and are introducing a slew of bit players that honestly, we don't find out anything about except their name and position. Yet, that's where in lies the problem, about twenty to thirty minutes is almost spent introducing these bit players, where the focus should be on the Godzilla itself and or the main cast, or dealing with the international crisis that the Godzilla is posing.

There are lot of nods from previous movies, and Godzilla's evolution is done really well, even though some of the CGI movie in the movie falters in some parts. That's where in lies one of the other problems, partially the charm of the old Godzilla movies was the fact these were actors in suits, and as cheesy it looked, it had a sense of connection to it, where as this movie is fully focusing on CGI, and even when they try to make it look like a suit, its more uncomfortable than fun. The fight in the movie is however done really well, and it was definitely a highlight of the movie itself. And that is not to say the plot of the movie was bad, it really was not. However the biggest problem of it, was that it was disjointed, and was really focusing on things it really shouldn't focus on.

There are scenes in the movie where they are going on intricate details of how to deal with the creature, and that scene goes on into chemistry class level of detail, where everyday viewer will just get lost, and might even lose interest in the movie itself. If the movie itself focused on the international crisis and the creature, which was the main premise of the movie, it would have been lot lot better. However it ended being weighed down by unnecessary characterizations and explanations which really shouldn't be in there.

This movie was not as fun as it should have been, and as much it pains me to say, Anno should stick to anime, as live action does not seem to be his forte, and maybe its not all his fault, but ultimately he was the director and the movie being good or bad, he does get burdened with the responsibility of the end result.

Movie gets stuck right in as within minutes there's something in the water. This is not the kind of movie that gets spat out of Hollywood. There isn't a young sexy couple to eat run time, like a soldier and a nurse. Honestly, i didn't enjoy this movie, maybe it's because I'm younger so i don't get the whole nostalgic **** But i do prefer the newer generation Godzilla. I used to be a fan of the old Toho Godzilla franchise of guys in suits but with the new one damn that's way better than this any day.
