Has it huge Monsters (or Kaijus) and epic battles? Definetly! So, what are you looking for when watching a Godzilla movie? Right! Huge Monsters bashing the sh** out of each other and destroy whole landscapes. And THAT´S exactly what you get with King Of The Monsters. It´s not the best Godzilla movie, but definetly the best US-Godzilla. Haters gonna hate, but if you love Godzilla and want to have a good time at the movies, then this is for you. Expand

The movie have all: monsters, classic references, simply but real story about the planet and the **** humans, lemurians references, great music and clasic references with the original theme. Critics liked 2014 version better for the “human drama” while audiences fell asleep as Godzilla barely appeared in his own movie. In this movie that’s reversed. Monsters are the focus and their fights are spectacular and given abundant attention while human characters serve to advance the monster story vice versa. This is how a real giant monster movie should be, no matter how much “critics” disagree. The monster also stands taller than comparable movies like Pacific Rim and has much for visceral, intense and spectacular fights. All in all, this is THE giant monster movie. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie goes back to Godzilla's root story. Set up like a traditional Godzilla movie. A movie that true godzilla fans can Appriciate. The extraterrestrial Ghidorah vs. Godzilla, The king of the monsters, Mothra, "Queen of the monsters" vs Rodan, "The fire demon." The first gods. In the movie, you follow monarch as these monsters rise up. Ghidorah controls the other monsters to tear the earth apart until humanity can step in and help Godzilla. With the help of the humans, godzilla can fight amd destroy Ghidorah. The fight scenes were worth the wait of the plot being set up. The CGI did the movie good. Several times I was about jumping out of the seat. The monsters were so beautiful. They resembled the monsters from previous movies (even including the Oxygen destroyer). If you grew up with Godzilla or are a Fan of the older movies, you will love this movie. I left the theater shaking. If you watch this movie, remember to stay for the end credit scene! This has become my favorite movie for sure! Expand

If you are a casual watcher (i.e. I don't really know Godzilla, just like monster movies), don`t you worry, this movie is packed with monster actions. The plot is interesting, and the actors did their job well, all of them. The writers made a good job of making the whole flow of the movie interesting, so even if you do not see monsters, you are paying attention.
If you are a Godzilla fan like me (The original Godzilla). This is a great adaptation. There are easter eggs from all movies you can think of, but I will say they are more focused on Godzilla Final Wars (2004) and Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (2001) as source material here. But they take Easter eggs from Godzilla vs Destroyah (1995), Godzilla Destroy all Monsters (1968), you named it. DONT MISS THE MOVIE, IT IS REALLY GOOD ADAPTATION.

Now I do urge anyone to go to the biggest screen they can find and try to open-mindedly turn your brain off (a seeming contradiction but its possible) and just let it all in. Its the very definition of a summer blockbuster, its hard not to have a good time (just accept going into it that this isnt a Nolan film, the script isnt perfect but its absolutely up to the task). If you grew up with the Showa era films, what the hell are you doing! Legendary and WB just spent a boatload of money to make your dream come true!! Expand

I am studying film at a very well accredited university and understand films interworkings well. If you can look past the average human interactions, this movie is stellar. That's what makes a Godzilla movie, a GODZILLA MOVIE. It is an intense ride that any Godzilla fan or normal movie goer should enjoy. 10/10: a near perfect representation of the Godzilla movies I had the most fun with over the course of my life.

It's no '54 in terms of tone and story, but if you average out Godzilla films over the course of 65 years, KOTM is far more fitting to that average than '54, 2014, or Shin Godzilla.

This is Invasion of Astro Monster, or Godzilla vs King Ghidorah, with a 200 mil dollar budget. They absolutely nail the feel of of what it means to be an action oriented Godzilla film. The Kaiju are represented with shocking (for Hollywood translations) precision and faithfulness.

There's been much gnashing of teeth by Esteemed Critics about the "human story" or lack thereof...

It's not The Dark Knight, but any fan of Godzilla films, or summer blockbusters in general, will be pleasantly surprised by the acting and overall story. Ken Wantanabe and a few others really stand out. The humans never get in the way of the fighting and Kaiju, which the first movie suffered from (according to many, myself included). I found the story more interesting than 2014s. That being said, it is FAR less grounded of a story than 2014, but it's relatively tame in terms of "out there" compared to many Godzilla films. It's very fast paced, thrown at you without much fanfare or explanation, and serves the point of getting us to the battles in some kind of sensible fashion. It's the weakest part, but not even close to weak enough to sour the film... Because...

The Kaiju battles are the best we've ever seen, in any movie, ever. It's not even close. I was smiling the cheering the whole time, like a child. I kept saying out loud "holy **** that's **** awesome". The Monster battles absolutely makes this movie what it is...

A classic, quintessential Godzilla film. Fans rejoice, the Godzilla you dreamed about is here. Those less inclined towards Godzilla, just go have fun with it!

After years of imagining how I'd do things differently than those who've gotten their inept hands on the franchise (post 1995), it's well satisfying to see someone get the Godzilla monsterverse RIGHT. It's as close to the movie that's lived in my head for the years I've wasted playing in bands & partying (instead of moving to L.A. & working hard to become a feature-length director myself) as I could pragmatically hope for. At long last, my inner - child who cried at the end of 'Godzilla: 1985' on VHS & had to wait a long, long time to see him return in Heisei flicks - can rest peacefully now that his hero has finally been done justice :] Expand

Godzilla: King of the Monsters is a must-see film this summer. For those looking into whether or not to watch this film, I have only one thing to say do not let a negative review from so-called critics dissuade you. If someone didn't enjoyGodzilla: King of the Monsters is a must-see film this summer. For those looking into whether or not to watch this film, I have only one thing to say do not let a negative review from so-called critics dissuade you. If someone didn't enjoy this movie it is because they were watching it looking for something it never was meant to be. So go to the movie and just enjoy a giant monster movie with all the action people felt was missing from the first one and then some. If you want the most out of this movie then take some time and verse yourself in the Japanese films as this movie even though it doesn't require you to recognize them is heavily steeped in small details that fans of the source material will love and feel rewarded for recognizing. This film does what it was meant to give you an all-out brawl between monsters of cataclysmic proportions, all the while dragging you up close and personal with incredible visual effects and some of the most immersive sound ever featured in a film to date. In conclusion, this film makes a promise and then over delivers on that promise all the way using visuals and audio to deliver an experience that will have you feeling as if every bone in your body is vibrating with pure excitement. I'm with the majority that believes this was successful in capturing why we love Godzilla despite having a lot of cheesy dialogs which can be seen in every Godzilla film but the fans don't remember the humans that much anyways so we forget that what makes Godzilla greate is the badass monsters, mayhem, and battles. I've seen a lot of films this year and none have moved me as such as this film, which inspired me as a 3D artist to continue working on my craft in order to get a chance to work on an amazing project like this. I believe there's never a perfect film because we all have our preferences and despite the critics, I loved this film and in my honest opinion I thought this film was perfect in how it balanced the human aspect with the monsters and I simply can't wait for next year. Good work G-team you deserve the rest after all that hard work on this passion project that you've helped bring us to us. Expand

Visuals were amazing and the fights were beyond awesome. As most are saying, the story wasnt perfect, but I'd say it serves its purpose to fill space between the action sequences. The score was also really great and had quite a few callbacks to the original movies. I honestly think that they could've done even more monster madness and less of a focus on the characters. They weren't near as bad as in the 2014 film, but they weren't anything special either. This is a 10 in my book just because of how mesmerizing the fights were to me, and that's all I really go to see a Godzilla movie for. Also, the setup for the Monsterverse has a ton of potential and was really set in motion in this film. Really looking forward to what the future has in store for this franchise. Expand

FORGET THE CRITICS! I literally made a Metacritic account solely to review this movie.

I grew up watching all those cheesy, supremely awful Godzilla movies from the 70's, 80's, 90's etc. with my dad. This movie not only honors all of those previous movies but in my opinion it COMPLETELY surpasses them. This movie is two hours of pure hardcore Kaiju-fight porn. All of the Godzilla monsters are EXTREMELY true to their iterations from the past.

In my opinion, other than Brian Cranston's limited time in the first movie; this movie's human element completely surpasses that of the first movie. I loved the featured family and Milly Bobby Brown's scenes with Charles Dance are particularly fantastic.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters is the Godzilla movie that everyone wanted the first go around. This is the movie you've been waiting for.

LONG LIVE THE KING.

I've been a Godzilla fan since I was a kid. I can't believe Godzilla KOTM is struggling so much in the box office... It's breaking my heart.

My personal favorites when talking about past movies was of course the original 1954 Godzilla, 1995's Godzilla Vs. Destoroyah and 1991's Godzilla Vs. King Ghidorah.

I saw Godzilla KOTM last Saturday in IMAX and absolutely loved it! The incredible visuals, beautiful yet terrifying design of the monsters, the epic movie sound track and yes, even the characters/plot made for one EPIC ride! I will definitely see it again this coming Saturday and have already pre-ordered the BluRay/4K steel book so I'llget it right when it's released. It was without a doubt better than 2014 Godzilla. Yes it had it's faults but it was an EPIC monster movie regardless. The fact that it's doing nearly as poorly in the box office as the obscenity that is the 98 Zilla is utterly sickening... I blame ROTTEN TOMATOES and SO CALLED CRITICS for the poor box office numbers. You can't trust them because they're not true Godzilla fans so they don't understand how the movies are supposed to be. They complain about too much Godzilla in the movie... Really?!? They complain about weak story line and characters... Monster movies are about what???... You guessed it! THE MONSTERS. That's what we want to see and that's exactly what we got!

Most Godzilla movies have had a goofy plot and somewhat weak characters but that's what makes them fun! Some have the underlying message like 1954 being about the atomic bomb, 2016 Shin Godzilla being about the government failing to act quickly when it came to Tsunami relief. This one os no different! It has an underlying message in it as well... Personally I don't think the characters/plot in KOTM is bad when compared to past Godzilla movies. If anything, they have improved upon it.

This was a movie made for Godzilla lovers, directed and written by a true fan (Michael Dougherty) of the Godzilla series ranging all the way back to the original 1954 Godzilla and it shows through with all of the small nods to past films.

Thank you to the cast and crew for making such an amazing film for us Godzilla lovers out there!

When I first saw the first one 5 years ago the hype of that film was worth it and I can say I feel the same to this latest Godzilla film in the new monsterverse and I have to say this is by far one of the best Godzilla film I have seen in a long time. The story was great, it had interesting ideas and character development and best of all and this is the first they gave Godzilla his original roar and even the 1954 roar in one scene which was the best thing I had seen and my reaction on it was shocking and I was happy.

King Ghidorah was also an amazing but terrorizing monster in the film and at one scene made my mouth drop was him eating one of the main cast which I love how the middle head is like not liking this at all, and when he does get his comeuppance by Godzilla it was by far my favorite scene in the movie.

If there is one thing I do have to complain about is the critic and bad reviews on this film docent make any sense.

Perfect Example, some say that there too much monster fights and not many human scenes? Kinda weird since its the opposite of what critics and fans me me included not a lot of monster fight and lots of human scenes?

When I went to see this film on June 2nd I didn’t notice this at all since it was 50% human and monster scenes. And I can say this was more lighter then Godzilla 2014 as I will agree that one was kinda hard to see as it was shot or put in night time.

In the end, this is still a great film way more better than the Netflix anime film, And I am happy that the wait is finally over and I’m looking for to Godzilla vs Kong next year. This film is a 9.5/10.

Michael Dougherty takes the spirit of the original japanese movies and brings it to new life in this King of the Monsters.
The new Ghidorah, Rodan and Mothra are simply awesome, faithful to their original counterparts but with a more modern looks to them.
The real star here, though, is Godzilla.
The King of the Monsters never looked better than in this movie.
Nice touch the winks to the original movies like the Maser Cannons, the Oxygen Destroyer and the Burning Godzilla.
Who criticize this movie should get to a good doctor and soon!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Absolute amazing mind chilling film. I've been wanting to watch this film for quite some time, but never had the time to. I can honestly say with my hand on my heart that it was one of the best sequels I have ever seen. The graphics, the script, the music, special effects especially are just WOW. Exceptional. The cast, so many good actresses and actors which made it all the better. You just can't recreate such a good iconic movie without the proper cast. I'm honestly 100% speechless. I'm always skeptical about sequels, especially since the first ever Godzilla, but each and every time it just gets better and better. I really hope they make yet another sequel, because I am already dying to see it! Best film I've ever seen this 2020 by far! Even if it did release in 2019. Definitely a 10 out of 10, solemnly because there is no higher number. I would most definitely recommend to anyone. Especially to all the Godzilla lovers out there like me, who loves a good sci-fi and action. All I have left to say is: LONG LIVE THE KING! Expand
