Another gem from Sundance about the whole male universe toxicity. Perhaps the only exception is the deputy sheriff because he is gay, otherwise every planetary abuse derives from human beings of XY tipe: from anti-inclusivism to anti-animalism, from sexual harassment to patriarchal theism and armed violence. Actually the latter does not, since Thandiwe Newton, here Buddhist and dressed again after "Westworld", turns the feature-lenght into a revenge movie.

Worst boring movie I have ever seen. No action no suspense nothing. Just plain boring and a waste of time.

BTW, God's country was an outstanding film, with a great performance by Newtown.

Wow, impressively this film managed to include so many left-wing ideological tropes into one film! It has trumped up racism, sexism, toxic masculinity and of course the anti-meat message. 10/10 for boredumb and ideologues. Thandie Newton is normally amazing, worth checking out her performances in Crash and West World.

Now that I've seen the film and read the critics' reviews, it seems my take is different from the critics': I don't see the story as primarily about a Black woman standing up to many oppressors, although that's certainly an element. Rather, it seems to me a story about miscommunication (ironic given that communication is what Sandra teaches) and missed opportunities (e.g., she and the older brother were close to finding common ground in the church scene). I came away thinking that all the main characters were monsters. Expand

A well-made, slow-burn thriller. Worth your time, and, bonus!: Watching it will piss off the man-boy Rogan-ites who are afraid that people will watch this and like it.

The police are friends with everyone in the fringe groups and will protect them. I’ve lived it. This film is showing a reality in this country. Expand

There is some interesting cinematography and the cast is very good but there is little else to truly stand above the others in such an over saturated genre. To be honest I never really bought into the tension of the isolation of being a small woman standing alone against a group of men. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Apparently hunters kill baby deer and love to laugh about it and have a beer over it. What reason would they have for killing a deer with a few pounds of usable meat on it and spending hours cleaning it. No one does that. Then apparently its commonplace for rural men to band together to burn down the house of a woman for stealing said corpse of juvenile deer. What a load of garbage. Yet another movie that displayed rural hunters/"scary rednecks" in a very negative light for no apparent reason. The only interesting dynamic in the movie was with the cop - but then that had zero payoff. I wanted to like this movie but there was ultimately nothing there but a shallow message about identity politics and rednecks are bad. I didn't like this movie because it was objectively a mess with a lack of direction. A movie with great dynamics between BIPOC, women's struggles with violence, police, and rural life that is actually worth checking out is Wind River (2017). Leave this behind. Expand
