"Get Out", um thriller eficiente, é uma obra original e bem sucedida na construção de um clima de suspense e terror, com momentos realmente tensos e, por vezes, de humor.

"Get Out" is a brilliant blend of horror and comedy, while also being a great medium for social commentary, with a truly remarkable performance by Daniel Kaluuya.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I watched breathless until the end of an absolutely fabulous script. Throughout the film, you can predict the turn of a job at home, but you can not predict exactly what it is.

yes it will be absolutely dangerous something is sure to happen but it is hard to guess what it is,what it is,what it is

Obviously I could not figure it out at the end of the idea that people would get into their brains surprised me, I thought more simple things like slaves and rose did not expect it to be in this job, it was a question that I thought was good and surprised me In general I really like the filmin topic, I won the academy prize in the best screenplay category I must say that you absolutely deserve it I could say a better film than this one because I do not call the film bad but it just might be better I like the film in general I just found the final scene a bit nasty was a bit simple

I could not have liked Chris's things very easily, and I could not have liked that kind of scenes.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie had me on the edge of my seat yelling GET OUTTT!!. The play on stereotypes made for a very interesting, hilarious, and bloody tale. However, as I sat there watching in shock I began to predict small minded people of all cultures taking this film seriously. The writers fictional play on sinister whites abducting and victimizing naive blacks (for money by the way) by taking their stereotypical "genetic assets" and using them for themselves was outright insane. Clearly these scenes hit the psyche and pulled the peculiar workings of slavery out of the viewers consciousness. It was entertaining, dark, and comedic, although I am sure someone left feeling offended while others left believing these things are actually possible. I was thoroughly entertained and satisfied to watch a good film created by blacks that did not resort to the usual hood story. I was thinking Alfred Hitchcock weird the whole time. It went bloody and over the top at the end but that's horror for you. I have not witnessed a creepier movie family since Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Rose had me terrified at the end, she played a cold blooded psychopath quite well. Expand

Perhaps my expectations were too high, but Get Out really is not all that it's cracked up to be, and certainly--in my opinion--is not worthy of most of the Oscar nominations it received.

As a "horror comedy," it tries to be funny and scary and it never really seems to succeed at either. The horror relies mostly upon the assumption that the viewer doesn't know what's really going on at this white family's home, but the twist that suddenly gives the "big reveal" is predictable about half way into the film. The humor mostly consists of awkward situations that the main character finds himself in and they certainly don't produce any laughs, but rather just concerned cringe-induced chuckles.

That being said, Daniel Kaluuya gives an incredibly emotion-filled performance as Chris and the dialogue--when it's not attempting at humor--is quick and effective at delivering Jordan Peele's admittedly original but flawed story and emotion involved therein.

Get Out is a predictable but sufficiently engaging thriller that clearly only received the Oscar nominations it got because of its political agenda.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I liked the movie, and I thought the concept was quite innovative within the horror genre. I did have problems with the movie however - some of the conversations between characters were later inferred to in every case be an act of jealousy, to kind of tie into a major plot twist. I honestly didn't myself receive that information from watching these conversations at all, and I think this could have been communicated more effectively in the scriptwriting. I also felt the protagonist should have been more concerned with the situation - so I had to suspend disbelief at his actions(in fairness this happens alot in horrors). Aside from that I didn't get any strong emotions of fear, danger or creepiness. This is all of course an individual experience that might differ to other people. Other than that I thought the movie was well executed across the board with the actors, setting and the idea behind it was brilliant. 7.2/10, not a massive appreciation for this movie, but i'm glad i watched it. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Most here providing negative or low scored reviews because they believe it’s racist against whites or feel it is or isn’t a comedy, are not versed on the history of America nor black culture beyond rap. The horror is aimed more at black people because this is a deeply rooted fear. Whites have taken or tried to take everything...now they come for the only thing black people have left. Their bodies. It draws upon influences from history in RL, such as Emmett Till and the horrific and controversial nature of his death, and also the belief that physically Black people are superior. Also the mistrust of white people that has been bred into blacks, and the reverse, speaks to racial disharmony, even within this very thread. Also speaks to further ignorance people have of each other and situations. One person here didn’t understand the movie, so so they believed the success had to do with the lead actor being black, another believed there is a reverse racism. Neither of those is true. The very definition of racism makes it impossible for such a thing for reverse racism to exist. The word you’re looking for is prejudice. But not so here either. This is simply a writer who was able to exploit a fear, of a community of people, who happen to not be white. The critical acclaim comes from the fact that these fears have never been on display so openly before.
That is why very few if any black people found this movie funny, but did find it horrific, even though fictional.
If you didn’t get the gist of the movie, I urge you to research Emmitt Till, George Stinney, Black WallStreet and History Channels Bio On Lynchings and then watch this again, imagining what it’s like to grow up with that knowledge in your head and what would make you afraid we’re you that person on screen. Not you, sitting at home in you white skin. Would you watch this movie and think, that could never happen, laughing, or think oh god...what if they did try this...what if they did try?!
If you are he’ll bent on believing white men and women are being subjugated and you don’t want to believe otherwise, then skip the research and go watch another movie. You don’t want to get it, and no one is forcing you to.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Not terrible, but can't see how this is in any way Oscar-worthy. If you're gonna make a movie about brain transplants, you better at least have something interesting to back you up. Oh, the character we immediately introduce as a hypnotist, and the guy who got kidnapped in the first scene, and the hypnotized servants... those are all related? WHAT??? And only an HOUR into the movie we find that all out? Crazy, man! What a twist!! Put this right up there with Citizen Kane! But seriously, the acting is pretty great and the movie's tone does weirdly keep you spellbound, hoping some thrilling twist lies just around the corner. If it did, this would be an awesome flick, but instead we get a dumb plot with a dumb ending that obscures all of the super valid points it was trying to make about race in the first place. Yes, white people are patronizing, yes they appropriate black culture, yes they don't think they are racist when they talk about Tiger Woods or Obama. All perfectly valid points that should get attention. But I don't come to the movies to just "get" the movie. There's more to a movie than just its message, and no excuse for a mind-numbingly inane plot. It would have made a decent 22 minute Twilight Zone, but doesn't have enough for a full feature length film. Unless it's the first movie you've ever seen, it is painfully amateurish and, leaving the "message" aside, the plot is ridiculous, predictable and without any imagination or layers of development. It's a premise, it's not a movie. Should've been called "Get On With It"! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Director Jordan Peele goes after the liberal elite in this obviously satire film that isn’t even scary and didn’t scare audiences, but it isn’t even a documentary for that matter. As you know, Get Out was put in the comedy category at the Golden Globes. However, Jordan Peele insists it is a documentary. But it is a comedy, like I said, and it is sure to win many awards in the comedy category. In the film, the ‘help’ of the liberal elite are to serve a purpose that is both funny and quite entertaining. The obvious silly insinuations are full of laughs suitable for the whole family, and jokes for every culture, religion, creed and socio-economic background to enjoy. The entire theatre will burst into unrestrained and spontaneous laughter at the comedic elements strewn forth for the audience’s delight. But if it were a comedy it should have won the category! In all seriousness, 5 out of 5 stars for an outstanding film. The best I have seen in a long time. This will be the gold standard for black horror films, it perhaps has invented a new genre. Expand

Mediocre because lots of stuff thrown into the movie is just a diversion and has nothing whatsoever to do with the plot. It's there only to trick you and is left as a hanging thread never explained. And in the end the answer to what's really going on is just ridiculous and kind of cliche. I thought the director was M. Night Shyamalan, that's how bad it is. But it turns out the director is black, and that I suspect explains the positive reviews. It's celebration is about political correctness. And so people conjure grand statements about how the movie is a commentary on racism, when it's nothing more than a mildly entertaining, unoriginal, long drawn out substandard Twilight Zone episode. It makes no sophisticated point about anything, and it doesn't work well as a drama or story. But it will keep you occupied as you empty your bag of popcorn. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. GET OUT is an absolutely downright excellent horror film. Brilliant pacing, & acting.

BUT - reverse the races in GET OUT and we'd have a complete *outcry* against this movie being nominated for BEST PICTURE in 2018's Oscars.

[ SPOILER ALERT ]

The slow, methodical physical and sexual torture white people (including some Asians) vote in this film to perform on a black man because he decided to share a white family's home equally so - proving the dear love he had with a white woman was and will always be fake - coupled with the black man's final resolution of the only way out is a complete slaughter of the whites and then slow, determined strangulation of the white girl who dated him..

.. Excuse me?

Switch the races --

If that were a white man visiting a black family --- a Caucasian man visiting an African American family and dating that African American family's daughter --- and the black family did the torturing of the white man .... resulting in black (instead of white) executions, capped beautifully off with a white man's slow strangulation of a young black woman to free himself from her and her black clan's clutches. Okay - would that be offered as Oscar's BEST PICTURE OF THE YEAR ?

An uproar at the very least would be thrown against this heralding of a white man killing African Americans to purportedly escape from the black man's clutches, and the slow strangulation of an African American woman justifiably and rightfully so it can never happen again; that should not be a Best OSCAR Picture of the Year.

Then -- why is this nominated for OSCAR Best Picture of the Year?

Oh I guess since they're whites being killed off and strangled it's okay.

Best horror film - fine. "Best Picture of the Year" .. wow.

Though as noted an amazing horror film in pacing and acting, its twisted racial abuse and senseless killing storyline makes me give this a 1.

Brilliantly constructed sequences convey differing layers of racism from subtle to overt, combining with paranoia to form a psychological horror theme with the main character Chris at the central focus through a white suburban nightmare, switching genre between an at times awkward comedy into a jarring horror thriller. After watching the grittier material on offer, I felt there was something a little off with the ending for me, so after finishing I recommend watching the deleted scene ending which, if used, would've pushed my score to 8/10. I would love Jordan Peele to direct more films /tv shows like this! Expand

This movie's score is so inflated that I decided to create an account to counter it. Overall, this is a very mediocre, if not bad, movie.

The movie has a great cast and is technically well made, but to enjoy either you have to get past a ridiculously dumb and incredibly predictable plot. It's listed as a horror movie but it never actually gets scary as the premise is just too far-fetched. For some reason it tries to do jump scares and even gore towards the end but never does it manage to be effective. Sure, the characters create a suspenseful atmosphere but it never manages to create any suspension of disbelief. I read other reviews that mention plot twists but I have no idea what they are talking about. Everything plays out in the most predictable manner.

As far as the social commentary goes, the movie depicts a world in which every white person cannot avoid making racial remarks for one second. I guess it fits the ridiculous premise, but I found it hard to draw any parallels to reality because of how grotesque the narrative is.

While it is watchable, it is very difficult to take seriously. Come on; there's even a scene in which a character summarizes the plot to outsiders and everybody just laughs at him because it is utterly ridiculous.

It tells a great deal about today's current racism without shoving it in the viewers face but rather lets you discover the many layers to this horror delight. The plot is chilling, fast moving but can become predictable at times. As a horror fan, this movie does not fall short. The plot is down right terrifying while not relaying on jump scares or a scary looking creature but lets the impending fear of dread coil around your stomach till you totally forget the half full bucket of popcorn you were munching on. A joy to watch while holding vital social message; "Get Out" should not be overlooked. Expand

Seemingly better and a little more sophisticated than any conventional movie about a guest who having come into an apparently welcoming ambiance and finding himself to be up **** creek without a paddle, nevertheless miraculously escapes skipping from one cliché to another. As it's often the case with the movies of this kind, it gives a lot of expectations at the beginning but doesn't live up to them to the end. "No, no" - I kept telling myself - "it's certainly NOT THIS kind of a movie! It seems too subtle, too intelligent, with all this decent acting, plausible characters, camera work and so on and so on, it seems to be too good to be THIS KIND of a movie. It would be too simple, too stupid if all this is only about that a lovely ambiance is, in fact, not lovely but lethal and all those nice people are not nice at all but, in fact, dangerous maniacs, psychopaths, cannibals, rippers, crazy surgeons an so on..." "No, no" - I kept telling myself when the movie waddled into its second half and some alarming signs began appearing more and more persistently, suggesting that maybe once again I'd put a little more optimism in my anticipations than premises actually required... In short - yes, IT IS this kind of a movie - standard and unimaginative. My recommendation is to stay away from it! Expand

Holy jeezums, Get Out is fantastic! I was expecting to like it and get a fun horror movie, but I wasn't expecting a horror movie on par with The Shining.

Its themes on racism are good, but I find that the themes of morality and immortality even more fascinating. What the villain(s) do is undeniably ungodly, but is it even racist? I won't go into spoilers, but this movie raises a lot of interesting questions. Can something be racist and not racist at the same time? What the villain(s) do of course is horrible, but their reasoning, though still morally wrong, can be interpreted as both racist and not racist at the same time! You can argue that them going after black people specifically is racist, but another person can argue that it's in a weird way, admiring black people... just in the most evil way possible.

Get Out messes with my head, and it is very very clever with how everything is set up and resolved.

I had heard this was a great movie, and I was not disappointed.

I will first agree that as a white male, no matter how poor I grew up there is a lot of privilege and safety in who I was born as. I haven't had to walk in the shoes of a minority like that so my view on this is of course from the outside.

I don't understand how its determined a comedy/horror movie. There were a couple of amusing parts but the whole thing reads like a horror movie, a very well written, well directed, well acted horror movie.

The movie itself is a slow build up from the beginning. The actual action of the movie only starts towards the end, but Peele's story keeps you enthralled anyways. I really found myself liking the main character Chris and I was rooting for him the whole movie. His girlfriend Rosie wasn't my favorite as a character, but the actress did great herself it was just the character I didn't like.

The hero of the movie to me though was Rod. He was pretty funny, and maybe that is why they call it a comedy, but I found he stole the show for me.

The trailers are pretty straight forward with the story, but you will still enjoy it and there are still surprises. By the end of the movie I didn't trust white people and I pretty much embarrassed to be white by the end, although in full disclosure I don't really trust white people anyways and am embarrassed by them regularly, but that is beside the point.

I can't recommend it enough that people should see this movie.

The good: I was impressed with how much the story stuck with me. It was full of great acting, directing and writing and I would be happy to pay theater prices again to see more of Peele's stuff if he does this type of horror again.

The bad: Nothing bad that I could point to.

a mind is a terrible thing to waste..

Get Out

How often do we encounter actors speaking through their eyes? Daniel Kaluuya is riveting in his scared-to-death sequences (especially the first time when Catherine Keener hypnotizes him) and what really gets you here is that, so is the audience. Get Out is of course Jordan Peele's show in every frame but it is more of the Jordan-the director and not Jordan-the writer, for even though being familiar with the concept or idea the audience seems to fall into his world within the first act which was actually shot more beautifully and with excellent detailing for Jordan knew that this is the part where the audience may go off track and after the movie has surpassed the first act and the introduction of its creepy world and dreadful characters, the premise of the movie will easily favour in for the rest of the acts. Besides Daniel there is very little of the other cast to perform on or project themselves to that range so it resides within his territory and he has taken care of it, nicely. Get Out is smart, a bit shady and surprisingly filled with stunning violent sequences which ups the ante a bit and boosts the movie to the whole new level where it plays off in the major league against the action sequences of the movies like The Revenant and The Atomic Blonde.

This was the most overrated piece of junk I have ever scene. Hmmm let me guess a movie written by a black film maker where predictably the hero is black, the white people are all evil and everyone is supposed to completely ignore the onesidedness of any attempt at social commentary. But beyond that the movie just wasn't very funny, very interesting or very scary. The only reason critics are praising this is to not get called a racist and to avoid being swept away by the wave of "Oscars so white." It would be refreshing AND TRULY SURPRISING for a black film maker to make a movie, any movie, where the central theme wasn't racism, now THAT would be noteworthy. I won't hold me breath. Until black film makers embrace the fact that they are more than just spokesman for the black race as a whole, that they can convey ideas beyond "being black" they will never produce anything that we won't see coming a mile away. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Generally considered one of the best movies of 2017, it’s rather safe to name ‘Get Out’ as the best horror film of the year. It’s only real competition would be ‘IT’, maybe ‘mother!’ (it’s proven to be rather divisive), and if you want to count it as a horror film, ‘The Shape of Water’. Excluding IT, there is actually a theme linking these recent horror successes. They each have more to them than simply being scary. Whether it be a message you can interpret, dazzling visuals or splashes of comedy, they each bring something else to the table.

Directed, surprisingly enough, by Jordan Peele, famous for his hilarious sketch comedy, Get Out is a genuine surprise. Based on the director, I’d made the assumption that this film would be a generic horror comedy, presumably relishing in over-the-top jumpscares and gore. Instead, what I found myself watching was somewhat of a mystery. Jordan Peele himself said that the film ‘can’t be put into a genre box’, and he’s right; it could arguably be a horror film, a suspenseful thriller, a comedy, a mystery or a pretentious commentary of race relations in America. Mercifully, I didn’t interpret it as the latter.

Originally conceived following Barack Obama’s second election, the film tackles a subject of race-relations rarely noticed: the opposite of racism. And I’m not talking about ‘reverse-racism’. Many white characters in this film actually love black people so much, they want to become them. Knowing it was written during Obama’s second term, that makes sense. Watching it now, with President Trump in office, gives it a different spin. Regardless of how you interpreted the antagonists, they were probably the most ‘human’ villain in horror in recent memory. Ignoring some questionable science, they were depressingly human.

The cinematography was a pleasant surprise. Shots, while rarely astounding, strongly added to the mood. Throughout the film, they felt as though they were getting closer, until we are unable to escape the situation we’ve been thrust into. Also, at times, we can see background characters watching our protagonist without his knowledge. Tension is present throughout, whether it be due to a nervous comment we aren’t sure how to react to, or somebody brandishing a weapon, the audience can rarely relax, leaving you tired when the credits roll.

The characters are each rather interesting. Obviously, the family is all rather one-note, but they play that one note so sweetly, I can’t bring myself to complain. The exception to this is Rose (Allison Williams). This character shifts so jarringly, I briefly thought it was someone else in her body. Daniel Kaluuya’s portrayal of Chris was also wonderful, and rather believable. Ultimately, the featured roles stole the show, however. Both Marcus Henderson and Keith Stanfield were brilliant, but Betty Gabriel’s Georgina was flawless. While the ‘saying things in an overly happy way to be creepy’ trope has been played out a bit, the cast in this film manage to make it unsettling again.

My main issue with the film is that it doesn’t seem to think the audience is particularly bright. Much of the racial ‘undertones’ are forced upon us, lest we miss the point of the film. There’s also occasional recaps of past events in conversations between Rose and Chris. The audience doesn’t need to be told why something is awkward, or strange; we can work it out. It’s both more rewarding for the viewer, and saves time in the film. This comes to a head when Chris finally works out what’s going on. We see literal flashbacks to previous events, as though we’d have somehow forgotten the things we’d seen half an hour prior.

With that said, however, it does highlight something that pleases me greatly. This is a mystery you can actually solve if you’re paying attention. It’s teased earlier in the film that the family’s grandfather was not only a runner, but that he lost to a black man. It’s not too large a leap to find the character’s envy. Perhaps others are like this? We also learn the parents’ occupations rather early, too. The party scene is utterly littered with clues, to the point of it becoming painfully obvious looking back.

To conclude, I feel this film was an exceptionally successful film. With a budget of merely 4.5 million dollars, Jordan Peele has told not only a highly enjoyable horror (or thriller, or comedy..) film, but an interesting commentary on society today. It also manages to avoid persecuting the viewer, regardless of their race, as I feared it may end up doing. I am quite happy giving this a high 8/10. If you’re looking for an alternative to a crowd-pleasing horror film such as ‘IT’, I recommend Get Out. At the moment, the film has made a profit of 250 million dollars at the box office, and it deserves every one of them.

Besides maybe The Babadook's portrayal of mental illness. The film is just so energetic and does such a marvelous job of building up suspense, drama and raw tension that really just leaves u nervous and anxious throughout the course of the film. The film is not supernatural **** jump-scary, it's more so, a rapid frantic and high kinetic descent into madness, and absolute mayhem as the plot progresses. The film IS F**KING CRAZY at times, the actual resolution, and the actual situation our character gets himself in is just awful, and it just gets much worse as the flick goes on. I loved it. The actual social commentary the flick presents is also very fresh and interesting angle on social issues surrounding racism, that I personally found rewarding and interesting. It's a flick that is bold, and social relievent that has an important tale to tell. I like to think of "get out" more so like Lynchian, twilight zone esc show or movie. Kinda surreal, kinda spooky, but absolutely marvelous, interesting and highly philosophical and conceptual. Any issues I had generally tend to be around possibly the flick not being long enough. Overwise, I honestly can't think of much wrong with the film. i loved it. Expand

Get Out is a physiological thriller. It is also a horror film. It is also a satire. It is also a political commentary on race in America. In short, Get Out is a unique film going experience.

The premise at the outset is simple enough, Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) a young African-american man from Boston, takes a trip to the suburbs with his white girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams) to meet her parents for the first time.

In the early scenes debut writer/director Jordan Peele (of Key and Peele fame) expertly combines tried and tested horror tropes (‘That deer came out of nowhere!’) with the uncomfortable racial undertones of modern America to build tension and just generally make you feel uneasy.

Chris’ first evening with Rose’s family is where the script is at its best. Before anything too left of field happens the film is content to play out as a kind of social horror as Rose’s affluent parents Dean (Bradley Whitfield) and Missy (Catherine Keener) attempt, unsuccessfully to make Chris feel welcome. From the family’s ever present African American ‘servants’ to Dean’s declarative statement that — ‘I would have voted for Obama a third time’, every line and visual cue is meticulously designed to put Chris and the audience on edge.

The real gut punch of the first act though doesn’t come from the any member of the increasingly sinister Armitage family. During Rose and Chris’ private ‘debrief’ on the days events it becomes clear that Chris isn’t shocked or appalled by the casual racism he’s experienced. Instead he shrugs it off, saying simply ‘I told you so’. For me, this scene and Chris’ attitude is the crux of the film. Jordan Peele is using this everyday context to highlight a harsh everyday reality; that this kind of racism is not only common, it is sometimes accepted by those on the receiving end as a fact of life, something they just have to deal with.

Now for me to say I understand this in any real world way would be incredibly reductive and facetious. I am after all a white guy from England, I don’t know the first thing about A) being black or B) being any part of American society. What I would say though is that with the character of Chris, Jordan Peele has created a compelling, complex protagonist who can be related to on a deeply personal level as well as being a representative for African Americans.

Any good horror/thriller is nothing without a hero you can get on board with and Daniel Kaluuya’s performance here is nothing short of outstanding. As a showcase for his talents Get Out provides an amazing launching point for what I hope will be a long and varied career (next up he joins the Marvel Universe with a role in Black Panther in 2018).

After the initial evening with the parents the film uses Missy’s profession as a psychiatrist to kick things into a new, horrifying and visually dynamic gear while the arrival of a dozen or so very white house guests the next day pushes the social awkwardness to whole new levels.

As the true plot unfolds, new revelations and twists pile up, adding fresh context to the earlier scenes (this is definitely a film that will benefit from repeat viewings). As always I won’t spoil the main plot but needless to say its all very **** up.

Throughout the film a subplot involving Chris’ friend Rod (Lil Rel Howery), provides some much needed comic relief which, although welcome, would’ve felt a little out of place if things hadn’t played out the way they did.

To discuss the film any further would require me to go further into spoiler territory and really dig into the Armatige’s ‘evil scheme’ and all it implies.

For now all I’ll say is Get Out is unlike anything you’ve seen before. It’s entertaining, it’s thought provoking and it is sure to be discussed for many years to come. Go see it at you earliest convenience….then we can talk.

My heart was pounding and I was actually yelling 'Get Out!' There is a menace hiding under the so-called nice people. The brother character was sufficiently scary, the parents - definitely creepy. Everyone else - WTF is going on? But, what a hugely disappointing ending. The ending resorted to pure trope horror crap. Unique concept = Lost with this un-unique unoriginal ending. Did I switch channels and find the ending to a different movie? Did the same writer who wrote the first 2/3rds write this stupid ending? Did the writer just give up? Did the producers decide they needed chopped body parts and 'fight to the death' scenes and re-write the ending? The writer should have found a much smarter resolution, in keeping with the rest of the movie. Too bad. Expand

Sad and pathetic rip-off of Skeleton Key. Poor acting, predictable plot, little suspense and practically zero scares. Critics clearly had too much tea praising this dud. I am looking at you Mark Kermode.

A great film that builds the tension minute by minute and that can deal with the issue of racism from a different point of view and without falling into the platitudinous as it might seem at first and superficial look.

My advice is to not read anything about this movie before going into it. The movie is excellent because it leads you to places you had no expectation of. Stay away from the reviews.

This is one weird movie! I'm not sure if it is a social satire, black comedy, horror film, or all three rolled into one. Unless you really like weird, and I'm not sure that I do, I wouldn't spend time on this film.

Instead, the anxiety is fueled by racist questions like, "Why are there so many white people?" & "Why don't the black people act like obvious black stereotypes?" The characters are unfunny and unrelatable, including the fat friend used as comic relief. Jordan Peele chooses to ignore important questions of race, and would rather provide heavy-handed commentary about misappropriation. It's at times trite, ridiculous, and blatantly unoriginal. It's The Stepford Wives with black people. It's Invasion of the Body Snatchers without the fascinating philosophical questions about humanity. And the worst part is, if it didn't talk about black people no one would care about this hackneyed disaster. Expand

Get Out is a clever spin on the horror genre and one that has more to say about society, and race relations in particular, than horror average slasher. Well worth a watch.

"Get Out" is an impressive director debut from Jordan Peele, who made one of the most interesting films that came out this year. Interesting like how it's all mixed together with the horror element and the hidden symbolism within it's story. How the social commentary was told in such a way that no other film has done before, cleverly executed and more assured.

I'm glad Daniel Kaluuya, (Best known for "Black Mirror") is getting some work, because he's incredible.

Since this is Jordan Peele’s first film, the movie is hilarious, but at the same time, it’s scary as you watch it. This film is arguably one of the best things I have ever seen nothing like it when it involves the combination of racism and social horror on the big screen. The acting, direction, screenplay, philosophy, and the tone of this movie matched how crazy that film is set up. If Jordan Peele made a sequel or a spinoff of Get Out, the next movie will be even crazier like this one! Without a doubt, this movie is an instant cult classic and a must checkout if you’re willing to see a movie that has a wild of sense of humor taking on social horror and racial tensions. Expand

Get out is one of the worst horror movies ever, I discovered that Jordan Peele is a terrible actor AND a terrible director and he will go down as one of the worst artist in the movie industry.

The story was awful, the story was way too well constructed to be interesting and the pacing was incredible which I really didn't appreciate.
The characters were terrible, they were too well acted and were too entertaining to be good, I actually felt invested to what was going to happen to the main character which was a huge let down.

So if you have any kind of intelligence do not watch get out, it's too original, too well acted and the story was too interesting and well done, it's an objectively bad film and I feel sorry for anyone who would like it.

Don't get out!

Discrimination, in all its possible variables, is a matter of which it's possible to get very far both in extension and intellection, an issue that has touched various media in terms of attacking this puppet of such evil purposes. Basing on a sad-popular behavior such as racism in the United States of today, filmmaker Jordan Peele—who gained status by TV shows of a comic nature that with the accustomed dubious quality achieved American transcendence—presents a sour, fiery and impetuous social satire brimming with black humor with delicious psychological thriller hint that arrives in order to impact strong on a certain well-off sector thanks to a reflective tale of the big little lies that we tell each other in such a clever, effective and commercial way that might well gets it a list of meritorious titles as "cult film" or "the best suspense movie of the year" and maybe, a round of accolades for its splendid components, identical in quality, different in appearance.

Peele's feature film converges, in not few vertices, with the laudable allegorical representation ("The Invitation", 2015), highlighting as the main concomitant the essence of the true thriller: increasing discomfort and vulnerability sown in order to audience does not feel secure with what happens on the screen, which provokes in this incessant birth of perceptions toward the loaded questions posed by the story. A genre equivalent to a perverse roulette, in which in the slightest moment of carelessness, a rush of revolutions can shake your safety from head to toe. Such concordance adorned with an acute social criticism, substantial of the authentic films inaugurated by Mr. Hitchcock, in which are exhibited the poorest actions that we can come to commit. We're the black and white dots.

While it builds outstanding psychological game with detailedness, Peele, deserving of double mention acting as scriptwriter and director, conjures up ordinary components and other unusual that can be abridged in three major fields: the first one, of course, is the narrative, although, beyond wise skill of developing the subliminal core idea, it's the successful combination and harmonization between two discordant genres as horror and comedy, an impressive achievement especially in the decadent film period in which we are in. While comedy is based on the supporting comic relief gags (adversarially a black man) and the irony of the situations, it's fascinating as horror doesn't require scary monsters or spooky entities to fulfill its objective, here, terror springs up from dread and the veiled significance of the words, from confrontation with the harsh reality. The second one is plausible constituents at a technical level, namely, its mise-en-scène, soundtrack, cinematography, and photography that unite the vertiginous final act with the hesitant first act using, as usual in Jason Blum's company, precise elements that facilitate and enrich the following of the story. It's prodigious in the composition of its images, having in its power a vacation home encircled by a dry forest is not a break, on the contrary, it's sensational as they create beauty, usually in confined spaces, with what they have. With certainty, the film has conceived one of the most beautiful shots in horror film history, an oneiric picture where Chris (Kaluuya) jolts awake after a cyclic hypnosis in a pale leather sofa, with the sound effect from an old TV as the only company, his face—tremendously photographic—raises an analogy through the melodramatic tears in his exorbitant eyes, a frame that will last in the memory of any modern cinephile. There are also sparkling scenes, which reach horns of the moon in its exciting third act, highlighting vigorously camera focus in the third major factor: the overwhelming and heterogeneous performances. Kaluuya's role radiates power and strength, he's sensitive and unprotected when he needed, aggressive and lethal when everything is a disaster. The alienation of the Armitage family is dosed between the competent actors, from which stand out Allison Williams (with a twisted plot worthy of Shyamalan) and her brother in the fiction. Exclusive attention requests scene stealer Betty Gabriel, who plays a couple of shocking scenes, with dimensions of complexity and interpretative depth typical of an acting matron. Be careful because this lady and Kaluuya will present great surprises.

Conscious of its game, Peele's motion picture is a deliberate subversion, offered by the hand of cinema, which cries out for the eradication of injustices perpetuated by the social and political sects of the Trump era. It also breaks supposed barriers between genres and ideas and overflows creativity and power by creating situations as exciting as cartoon-like, as intelligent as reflexive; A satire that wasn't requested, perhaps out of fear, but in the end, it came with a relentless purpose. It achieves what many feature films don't: surprise and affect.

Too bad it happens rarely, most of the time it tries to be scary, without being it. It can't even be a thriller because the director spoiled the "Truth" in the first five minutes of the film, so you don't get the feeling of discovering the bad guys or something like that.

If it was a black (pun intended) humor comedy with horror tints in a slasher way it would've been awesome (every scene with lil rel howery is great), but when they try to sell you this thriller-esque "Who knows whats going on here and if there is something to fear" it is just pointless because you already know.

Now you're in the sunken place!

Not all the directional debut sees this kind of welcome from the audience. Yeah, Jordan Peele had written and directed it. It is similar to the 90s style mystery-thrillers. Definitely must see for the 90s, 80s guys. It kind of looked like a black comedy, but I guess that's not they had preferred. Especially that teacup scenes and some of the close up shots, that freaks, yet very funny.

Well, this is the story of an interracial romance. When Chris decides to meet his girlfriend's white family, living outskirt of her hometown, all goes as planned. But he was not sure how her parents take it, that he's a black. Now everything has settled, but his visit started to take a strange turn after a series of weird events. What it is and how he overcomes it is the remaining tale.

The casting was amazing. The story was suspenseful. You would feel you can predict the scenes, but not that easy and when twist happens, you will realise it was simple as that. This is a hit film now, but if it was 20 years ago, surely would have gotten a cult classic status. And yes it is, thinking the future.

When this got out and its pre release, I thought it would disappear without any trace. It is rare a recognition a film like this to get to having a second string cast, debutante director and being a low cost film. I got entertained thoroughly as it delivered as promised. But I think some people are overjoyed and praising it like crazy. That's true if you are not a film fanatic, otherwise it is one of those decent films. Surely not to be missed. One of the best of this year.

Part of the problem was certainly due to the fact that I saw this on video after the hype and critical reaction had been built so high that it couldn't possibly have lived up to its 87 Metacritic score and 99% Rotten Tomatoes score. If you like your social satire to be "hit-you-over-the head" (repeatedly and literally) obvious, then this might be the movie for you. I guess knowing Jordan Peele's other work, I shouldn't have expected "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," but I did expect maybe an ounce or two of character development and nuance. This doesn't have that. All the tropes have been done before (did you know that white people play lacrosse and like to ask black people about the NBA?).

That said, there are plenty of things to like about this movie. The acting is pretty solid (with the exception of Catherine Keener). Daniel Kaluuya is fantastic. Allison Williams, despite a pretty weak track record, holds up her role with aplomb. Milton "LilRel" Howery steals the show with his role as the comic relief/truth teller. Peele's direction does a fantastic job with capturing the creepiness inherent in the setup. It's worth a watch when it makes it to HBO or Netflix, but you may be upset if you shell out the $6 or $7 to see it on PPV.
