A demonic symbol appears on the credits: as in "Martyrs" (Laugier 2007), spiritual lucubrations serve the debutant Mimi Cave just to exhibit some nefariousness, in this case a bit of cannibalism. The initial cue of modern online dating is abandoned after 5 minutes, and the healthy rejection of Disneyworld with its disvalues does not justify similar sadistic attempts to legalize something too similar to snuff movies.
Btw: Lou Reed ("Perfect Day" 1972) and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs ("Heads Will Roll" 2009) have nothing to do with stuff like that.

The story is simple, a mix of the social anxiety of online dating and cannibal horror. Noa the young lead character is looking for a man. I wouldn't say the love of her life, but a decent man, and when she meets the one who seems too good to be true, plot-wise uncomplicated if predictable, it turns out that this man is actually too good to be true and not in a good way. Fresh's critique of the horrors that modern dating can entail is present. There are some scenes involving the fear and verbal abuse that women often experience in that arena, but Fresh is not a film that seeks to be a purely social commentary story. It never delves too deeply into that area because ultimately the overall concept is and remains that of a horror film. The plot collapses in a poorly prepared third act that is limited by its setting to a death-or-escape closure that fails to build to a satisfying payoff.
It cleverly doesn't push things too far and knows it's time to conclude, but at that point the very absurdity of the story is merely functional cause there was no where else to go. Was good, but it will only stay with you for a moment.

This movie is no different than all the other white female empowerment BULLS*** we’ve been getting the last decade. When is the action, thriller, sci-fi horror genre going to switch it up? We are truly in the end times

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In all honesty coming into this movie I didn't expect much. I had thought it was going to be cheesy and I didn't think that the visuals would be very good. after watching Fresh I have to say that this movie surpassed my expectations greatly. the visuals and camera work was 10/10, it had just the right amount of gore and I was very pleased with the acting. Sebastian Stans character was played off in the right way and I was pleased to see his acting development in a new movie genre I haven't really seen him in. I also like how this movie portrayed how dating in the real world can be like (in the beginning of the movie) and how men tend to be self centered and stuck up when they don't get their way. I appreciate the directors not making any part of this movie cringey. when I expected something to happen, things went the way I didn't expect. overall this movie is a must watch and I will be recommending it to anyone who's into movies and such. Daisy Edgar-Jones plays a woman he meets at a bar. As their relationship grows, he takes her on a getaway that turns cruel and ultimately twisted. Let's just say that he has abnormal appetites. This is more about the drama than thrills, so the first 90 minutes move a bit slowly as the warped scenario plays out. Surely, the dance scene will be remembered for its bizarre interlude. There's very little violence or gore, because this is more an intellectual thriller that ultimately proves disturbingly enjoyable and potentially appetite suppressing. Expand

Another example of politics being inserted into entertainment products. Pure studio driven 'story by comitee' woke trash. White man bad - girl so smarty. Couldn't make it past the first 8mins.

There's a lot of content out there, so there is no shortage of movies or television to watch. How do we sort through it all?!?! I guess you just scroll for hours and hours, or you come here and see what we suggest. For this weekend, if you are looking for something new and interesting to watch, check out Fresh on Hulu. Fresh premiered at the Sundance Festival earlier this year with some interesting reactions. Here's whether Fresh is ripe for the picking.

Fresh is a mash-up of a couple different genres: romantic comedy, horror and thriller. It begins with Noa (Daisy Edgar-Jones), who has been unlucky in love. Noa is suffering through the modern dating scene. She has bad experiences with online dating and is ready to give up. A chance encounter with witty and charming stranger, Steve (Sebastian Stan), turns things around. Noa embarks on a new relationship with Steve as she is smitten beyond belief, but love isn't always what it seems. Unexpected twists and turns challenge the relationship's freshness.

The premise of Fresh is brimming with a lot of potential. Who hasn't been on bad dates that feel like a horror movie, right? The plot synopsis intentionally hides the ball, so that the audience can be as surprised as Noa and Steve are in their relationship. The problem is that the movie stalls once these twists are revealed, and then you have 40 minutes, or so, to wait for the resolution. And boy does the freshness of the movie get tested in those extra 40 minutes. I will say that Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebastian Stan do a good job keeping your attention throughout the movie. They are able to harness the tension of the situation and add a punch to this romantic comedy/thriller. They have good chemistry together and are believable as this potential couple. Sebastian Stan is going all out in this role as he's funny, charming and creepy, (I usually think Sebastian Stan is creepy, so that wasn't a big leap).

Ultimately, Fresh is an interesting premise that has a good set up, a slow middle portion, and a thrilling finale. You won't look at dating the same way after watching this movie. The central cast is good enough in their roles to harness romantic chemistry and uncertain tension and Sebastian Stan is particularly good in this flick. If you are looking for a fresh perspective on dating, then this movie gives you something to chew on. Grab your love and a bow of popcorn for this one.

I wouldn't say it's perfect, just because I don't think it nails the split between humour and seriousness but apart from that it's a terrifically made film. Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebastian Stan give excellent showings, while the music throughout is top notch. It's nicely paced and has an interesting story. Definitely one I'd recommend.

WOW. Fresh really surprised me. It's stylish, bold, and unlike any horror film I've seen before. Sebastian Stan's best performance to date. Go into it knowing NOTHING.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sebastian Stan’s and Daisy-Edgar Jones’s performance is absolutely outstanding! The cinematography, the plot-twist, everything about the film is freaking good! And I also hope that they’ll make a prequel to tell the origin story of steve and his so called family and also sequel to see the community and Noa’s live after all of that. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Horror movie made in 2022. Again, cannibalism sauce of the money fathers was added in order to add a difference to the familiar issues. But that's silly. Two pieces of music caught my attention in the movie. The first is the one that plays while the girl and the guy are on vacation, and the second is during the casting. The movie turns people off from eating meat.

A girl who is unsuccessful in finding a lover meets a man at the grocery store. They immediately become lovers. They go on vacation before they even know each other. But they have to stay overnight at the man's house. The girl wakes up as a prisoner after drinking the medicated drink. It turned out that the man was a human butcher who slaughtered women alive and sold their meat to the rich.

Does anyone know what the role of the bartender was?

Why don't the killers in these movies die or get so injured that they can't get up from the ground?

Why the man's wife is such a maniac is also incomprehensible.

What happened to the kids and the indian-type guy at the end?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It was a decent movie! Passable. Another review said it really well; Sebastian Stan was like a Bateman in this movie. It was clear that they were shooting for that appeal, of a psychopath having way too much fun. Envision the scene where he is talking about Huey Lewis and the News, and that was a big portion of his personality in the movie.

I liked the quick start and unexpected mid movie, end intro credit roll, it was intriguing.

The movie was a bit overly linear, and for being linear, I think it failed by involving the bartender. It's clearly another movie intended to be empowering to women, and there's nothing wrong with it, but it was a misstep to remove any element of male help in service of that.

In other words, don't have Mollie drop her location to him, have him keep checking his phone, then drive all the way to the house, only to get cold feet at the last moment, because then he has been a useless plot device. If the feminist angle was the prize, then keep him sidelined as just someone who got Mollie Sebastian's information and have that be that.

Beyond that, Daisy was gorgeous and her revenge on Sebastian was hilarious and fantastic and justifiably in the moment. It was good to see the women get out. It was disappointing how shoehorned Molly was into the finality of the movie. Meaning, she went from being captured, to then being let out, with no surprise on Daisy's part and no other substance derived from her capture aside from a short surgery. There could have been more done from that. The same could be said with Ana, she was another tendril left unevolved, and also cutting off Daisy's butt was lazy and inopportune. It was done so that they wouldnt have to work with props and to minimize the effect on her visual appeal, like Penny or Ana, but it was so obvious that basically by the end Daisy had no effects from it. It's not a good look that the only clue we have that she is missing her rear is her awkwardly holding her side hip.

Anyways, still entertaining, and a decent movie. I'd lean more towards a 6, but it is such a toss up (like a 6.5) that the fun aspect to it due to the comedic relief moments is enough to say "why not" and give it a 7.

FRESH is one of those movies where you're not sure if you're meant to laugh or cringe. To scream or roll your eyes. The sympathize with a character or not. And that is exactly what makes it work so well.

FRESH begins as a bit of parody of the current dating scene (as a 59-year-old married for 37 years, I can't relate, but I can be horrified and amused). We meet Noa (Daisy Edgar-Jones) on her first date with super obnoxious Chad. They're at a restaurant, and in the space of just a minute or so, he insults Noa's choice of clothing and just her life choices in general. When they agree that the date is going nowhere and are ready to walk out, he asks her to pay for her food but then he wants her leftovers to take home. We sense that for Noa, this is just one in a series of disappointing dates, and when she chats with her best friend Mollie (Jojo T. Gibbs) about it, we're pretty much assured that Noa's dating life has hit a wall. But she has a "meet cute" in the grocery store with the goofy, but somehow still charming Steven (Sebastian Stan) and they have immediate tentative chemistry (yes, I know that's a weird phrase, but to me, it explains so well how Noa can feel sparks flying, but also can't make herself believe that was really happening). This leads to a date, and then another and then an invite to have a romantic weekend getaway and then everything goes insanely off the rails.

Because you know going in that this is NOT a romantic comedy, you're ready for something to happen. But unless you've read more than you should about the film, you are NOT ready for what does happen. (And please, I'm trying hard not to spoil anything...do yourself a favor and read as little about the plot as you can.)

Noa finds herself in a situation she could never have imagined, and Steve is not remotely the person we might have hoped. And yet, the sparks are still there. And Noa uses them to her advantage. And Steve, smart as he turns out to be, is still a sucker for a girl who will flatter him.

The less said, the better. But I can tell you this. The tone of this movie could so easily have gone off the rails, but writer Lauryn Kahn and particularly director Mimi Cave walk the tightrope expertly. They embrace the uncomfortableness of the situation (again, no spoilers here) pretty head on, and you'll find yourself squirming at times. But it evolves into dark humor. (In fact, if I had to pigeon-hole the film, I'd call it a DEEPLY black dark satire.)

And layer on top of that two excellent performances. Edgar-Jones (whom I didn't love in Normal People because I haven't seen it), is very well cast. She's a tiny, even "delicate" actor who never loses that sense of smallness. She doesn't become Sarah Connor in The Terminator...she stays Noa throughout, even as she finds strength. Sebastian Stan is NOT an actor I normally care for very much, but his very blandness is put to good use here, and the more "out there" his character becomes, the more I enjoyed his embrace of the weirdness...but without ever losing the essential blandness. I know that doesn't sound appealing, but it all works so well because these actors are also poking at the type of character their playing, so there's a sense of fun behind all of it.

The two are extremely ably supported by Gibbs in the usually thankless "best friend" role, who turns out to be ever so much more.

It's not a movie for the squeamish. Some icky things happen in a very casual way that doesn't try to hide what's happening. But it something to say about modern relationships, materialism and social media. Or maybe it doesn't; maybe it's just a helluva lot of fun!
