Free guy is a fantastic concept diluted down and mixed with pop culture sherbet into a sickly goop of discombobulated nonsense. More like "Fun Guy", ain't I right fellas?

Not a fantastic movie by any means and it reeks of "soulless studio made movie", but I won't lie, I had fun with this one. Ah **** film Twitter is going to lynch me for this.

This movie is a result of non-gamers looked at a generic mmo game once and said "yeah, i get it. This is what every video game is like" a generic depiction of games and gamers alike. While not being a bad movie, it's not good either.

Truman Show + Westworld + Ryan Reynolds brand humor + impressive special effects. A fun lightweight movie, similar to Pixels, the Adam Sandler movie that got panned but I thought was pretty entertaining. You do have to put your brain away and try not to think about the logic of it. There weren't a lot of big laughs for me, but it ended strong with "Dude." There were also some "woke" lines that were cringy, basically to the effect of "men are all trash" (it's funny how it's always men who write stuff like that into movies. I guess they're trying to impress their wives/mistresses.) Also a "white privilege" line that was just awful. One of those Hollywood apologetic lines; rather than give the brown character more to do, they just "acknowledge white privilege" and then continue to give the white characters the best parts. Typical all-words-no-action Hollywood liberals.… Expand

If you want to see Ryan Reynolds do his usual thing then this movie will not disappoint. It is funny and a good time. That said, it does feel like it's tailored to kids and not all that fresh.

I was disappointed with the woke talking points in the movie, referencing 'white privilege' and 'the patriarchy' so that definitely rubbed me the wrong way. Glad I didn't pay to see this - it's things like this that are why I stopped buying movies until I've screened them - can never trust that some far left political agenda isn't going to get shoe-horned into the script. I hope at some point down the road we can get back to good movies without a political agenda. Until then, I'll continue to screen my content and keep my money in my wallet whenever wokeness is detected.… Expand

Single headedly ruined this movie experience for me at least. The move is in par with Ready Player One otherwise, visual effects are similar as well, also the "necessary" product placements and irritating YT streamers. For some people there are some "trigger phrases like "white privilege" and "manbaby" so if you hate this kind of stuff, I totally not recommend this. This movie tries to reinforce stereotypes that all gamers are living in their mom's basement, and if you are playing a video game you are a bad smelling psychopathic **** Even the female gamers are portrayed as "nerdy" In my opinion the move does more harm to gamer culture then good. Although the core concept was not bad, interesting even and Raynolds's & Comer's performance was good, the adverts, the arrogant, stereotypical and condescending attitude of Waititi and the writers drags this movie to the mud.… Expand

This could have been a good movie and I enjoyed parts of it. What I didn't care for was the woke ideals being spouted every 15 minutes. Hollywood is just unable to make a neutral tone film and it is wrecking the industry.

It's unapologetically dumb, and I'm quite capable of appreciating a movie that isn't afraid to embrace the complete absurdity, but Free Guy is a movie lacking in tone and direction.

What this film tries to do for its entire duration is toIt's unapologetically dumb, and I'm quite capable of appreciating a movie that isn't afraid to embrace the complete absurdity, but Free Guy is a movie lacking in tone and direction.

What this film tries to do for its entire duration is to seek to throw as much as it can on the screen in order to make you believe that it's very funny, when in fact it's just repeating itself.

This occurs because after certain situations, pretty much after the first twenty minutes of the story, its arsenal of gags begins to run out severely, so the film begins to fill in the gaps with real-life reactions of some gamers, and news coverage so they can explain you that the character is simply doing something out of the ordinary. As if you weren't already seeing it with your own eyes.

Free Guy is a high-concept idea executed with a defeatist mindset. Why do I say this? Very simple. Its creators and lead actor expect you to be satisfied with just the visuals, so you can forget about the rest.
And it's not that I've tried to find some kind of narrative depth in this film, I'd be fooling myself, but it's a little hard to avoid thinking about it when the lead character, despite his eternal smile, is basically having an existential crisis.

Free Guy is just entertainment. Dumb entertainment, but its ambitions are conscious enough to die there, but it's entertainment that becomes hollow after a while, which is ironic considering the story takes place in an open-world video game, and those games need a huge amount of variants to not bore the player.
The presence of Ryan Reynolds playing himself for the umpteenth time, stopped being enough for me quite a while ago.… Expand

The timeliness of some of the film's true-to-life parallels also adds to the relevance of it all. Part of me wishes I was in the target demographic for this, so that I'd be able to enjoy it more, but it is what it is. The core of the story -- as much as it resembles an occasionally shameless "Lego Movie"/"Truman Show" mash-up -- remains watchable at its worst and endearing fun at its best. I feel like I should have loved "Free Guy". I can't find a single fault with it, it just didn't grab me the way I wanted it to. Kudos for coming up with a new type of story that isn't the same old rehash we keep getting, and the digital effects really are something to marvel. There was no way they could have done the special effects other than with CGI, but unlike so many Disney movie, I couldn't find the seams between the real and digital footage. I give it a C, if you've already seen the best, but you insist on watching a movie, try this one out.… Expand

Ryan Reynolds is the star of the show, but he delivers his jokes and overall funny attitude as if he was playing the Deadpool character he is very well known for. Other notable members of the cast are Joe Keery (Steve in Stranger Things) and Taika Waititi (director of MCU movies "Thor: Ragnarok" and "Thor: Love and Thunder") in supporting roles.

This movie is a decent summer blockbuster, but nothing memorable. If you are unfamiliar with videogames, you better skip this movie because you will understand none of its concepts and references. If you are a gamer, you can happily watch it and have a laugh or two with Ryan Reynolds.… Expand

It’s a lot of fun but it does have a lot of issues. The first part of this film is very cliche and very boring. In fact, a lot of this story feels very cliched. It was easy to start predicting which story beats the story was going to hit andIt’s a lot of fun but it does have a lot of issues. The first part of this film is very cliche and very boring. In fact, a lot of this story feels very cliched. It was easy to start predicting which story beats the story was going to hit and it usually hit those beats with the climax being kind of the exception. Ryan Reynolds is definitely having fun in the role. He has this infectious charm that makes it hard to hate him and while his performance is by no means amazing, he is definitely trying. The other actors are fine but I didn’t really like Taika Waititi’s performance. Usually I love his performances but this time, it felt like he wasn’t even trying which sucked because he is the main villain. The references and cameos were definitely the best part of the film. Well, some of the cameos were fun while some of them felt really REALLY awkward. If you have seen the movie, then I think you know which people I am talking about. They all felt natural and not forced at all. I won’t spoil the cameos but there is one doing the final battle that got a genuine laugh out of me. Speaking of humor, it is pretty hit or miss. Some of it is pretty hilarious and some of it really falls flat on its face. Another big thing the film has is its climax. It doesn’t make a lot of sense but it’s just a ton of fun. There are plenty of moments throughout this film that were just fun and the climax dials it up to 11. It’s just a shame it takes a little while for it to become REALLY fun. If you enjoy video games or Reynold’s style of comedy then I would definitely recommend checking this out.… Expand

Its meh, after seeing the trailer the first time i was quite interested in the movie but after finally sitting down and watching it, it turns out to be just very average. I really like Ryan but once again like in all the movies he stars in, he basically just plays himself which is not a problem for me if the rest of the movie holds up well, but it doesn't. The jokes at times feel so forced and are more reminiscent of a bad slap stick stand up then a properly written comedy, granted its not as bad as lets say Guns Akimbo which was a god awful movie but this one is far from perfect and at worst times it rides a very fine line between bad comedy and just borderline cringy. Overall i'd say you can watch it, if you've got nothing better to do but it is miles off a must watch like some people claim it to be, or to quote a much better series: "Not great, Not terrible."… Expand

La intención está bien, en la práctica yo creo que flaquea.

· Cosas buenas: Ryan Reynolds, siempre se come la pantalla, la acción está guay, pero nada del otro mundo, y el humor está chulo.
· Cosas malas: En momentos es demasiado infantil y absurda, me falta algo.

Paradise Island, I want to live there and watch AI live their lives.

Inappropriate: Filled with dirty language I counted more than 20 plus obscene gestures, sick physical interaction between Matty and Guy, I'm going to have to edit this movie a bunch so my kid siblings can watch it. Cringe: needed more consultants who were actual gamers and programmers. Both main characters admitted they don't have video games in their house besides words with friends. It was obvious memes were the reference material rather than actual gaming or coding.

From the trailer, I was hoping this would redeem Ryan Reynolds from the fart joke that is Deadpool. Unfortunately these movies taste the same. Ryan Reynolds is a great promotion producer but lacks the moral foundation required to sell the Good Guy.… Expand

It's decent I guess, it has funny moments and is a fun experience, but doesn't have a ton of interesting characters or story.

TL;DR if the Steve Buscemi meme was a movie, this would be it.

It’s an interesting concept that could have made for a really good movie, maybe not a great movie, but definitely a good, fun movie, if it wasn’t executed so poorly. It feelsTL;DR if the Steve Buscemi meme was a movie, this would be it.

It’s an interesting concept that could have made for a really good movie, maybe not a great movie, but definitely a good, fun movie, if it wasn’t executed so poorly. It feels like a movie made for a very very specific target audience by someone that doesn’t really know anything about that target audience. It makes all the right cultural references but the tone is so far off base and again the execution is so… almost condescending, it’s like the living embodiment of that Steve Buscemi meme. I heard someone say it was like an AI was forced to watch thousands of hours of those terrible mobile game adds and then made a movie based off of it and I have to say that feels pretty accurate.

Overall though, the acting isn’t the worst ever, I would say 6.5 out of 10, but the plot is abysmal and the special effects are worse than a lot of video games out right now. I think I would need to be very inebriated to enjoy this movie on any level. But I suppose it is possible that if I were inebriated enough, I might enjoy this movie.… Expand

A really fun movie with some really good reference payoffs. Felt exciting to see how they fit other games into their cohesive narrative. It's a fun movie but nothing all too special. Great movie to watch with friends or when you are feeling bored. A good chunk of the humor lands and the action is decent.

la verdad que me parecio una pelicula que toca el tema de los videojuegos con la clasica premisa de hooo videojuego, son geniales, puedo hacer lo que quiera, son estupidos y es algo que se ve medio reflejado en el mismo concepto della verdad que me parecio una pelicula que toca el tema de los videojuegos con la clasica premisa de hooo videojuego, son geniales, puedo hacer lo que quiera, son estupidos y es algo que se ve medio reflejado en el mismo concepto del videojuego dentro de la pelicula pero por otro lado hace referencia a algunas sagas de renombre como megaman, portal y half-life ademas de juegos como fortnite sinceramente creo que la pelicula esta dirigida a un publico mas juvenil por no decir entre 8-10 años, la trama por su parte me parece algo divertida nada seria tomando en cuenta que esta dirigida para este tipo de publico, los efectos son muy malos, nada que un niño valla a exigir mucho.
en fin es una pelicula familiar dirigiada a menores, aun que hay algunos chistes suvidos de tono solo conte 2, sus hijos no lo van a notar :).… Expand
