It lives up to the title ("Filth"), James McAvoy's performance is off the wall. James McAvoy's performance is over the top and crazy. Jon S. Baird's script is ecstasy and the story turns on you, you know McAvoy's character but you don't know his other side. The film is sort of a mystery, the script tells the other side of Bruce Robertson's story. It's hard to like McAvoy's character when he bashing gays, cutting down his rivals, including by-the-book Drummond (Imogen Poots) and rookie Lennox (Jamie Bell), while trying to retain his tenuous hold on reality. It's a sick crime drama, it's nothing that's you seen before. I think the raunchiness is not wickedly clever but I enjoyed Robertson's dramatic side. Grade C+ Expand

Desperately trying to be outrageous, it's nothing more that a string of piss-poor third-rate gags delivered in a consistently hysterical over-the-top manner. Strictly for those who find puking, farting, wanking and saying "cock" hilarious in itself.
