The only thing to take away from this is that, in the event of an alien invasion ditch your incredibly annoying children immediately. Otherwise they will continually put your life in peril through their ridiculously stupid actions and if that doesn't kill you, their incessant screeching of "daddy i'm scared!" or "mommy don't go!" will have you reaching for the nearest alien rifle to blow your own brains out.
If you can make it to the end of the film there is a twist, but most likely you'll be on your knees praying for a real life extinction of humanity to put you out of your misery to really notice it.

I was rooting for the aliens the whole time. The acting was so bad and the characters so annoying. The children were screaming the whole and running into danger and the parents were just as annoying. Netflix is making bad movies.

Instead of building out the premise to deliver the big twist, it's slow and middling, making the twist rushed and the climax disastrously un-emotional. For a story that depends on the emotion, there's no greater failure. Looks like a blockbuster that only Netflix money can make happen, but ends up a B-grade movie at best. At the end, the only thing I enjoyed is the end-credits song. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie makes no sense what so ever, even the in-universe logic does not hold up. The first 30 minutes are boring and the characters are downright annoying. There is a “twist” that the protagonists are in fact robots / synthetics. But since they “have feelings” the audience is supposed to side with them rather then the “evil humans” who have come to take back the earth. Since the production quality is rather high it is at least easy on the eyes. Expand

Netflix Films is definitely setting a standard of trash ware. I've yet to see a good Netflix Film that isn't a downright crapfest.

After watching the first 30 minutes and straight through - I was giving the movie a chance since the rating on the streaming provider was high - I fast forwarded through about half of the remaining 60 minutes since the movie was so painful to watch. Why not just stop watching after 30 minutes? Since I had time invested I wanted to see how the movie ended. Very disappointed in this movie. Expand

I see why it landed on Netflix. Just more garbage for the trash heap.

-poor to zero character development
-same plot as every other sci-fi
-same script as every other sci-fi (if you were to take a shot for every time Michael Peña stares at the camera in horror, you'd die after 5 minutes)
-extremely predictable overall

How are people giving this anything over 1/10? It's terrible (but not, so good it's bad, just bad).

I don't even remember the last time I saw Michael Pena in a movie or tv show but he was actually pretty good in this. Him and the not bad plot twists were the two sole bright spots of this movie. But the boring characters, generic story, plot holes, boring action scenes, and bad CGI this one is a definite miss and I'm the type of reviewer that will suggest movies even if they are average w/ issues. I understand perfectly they need to have constantly new content and this I know perfectly because I have found that Netflix clients, many of their clients just want more and more and more and more, and Netflix is to blame because of that, because they educate them terribly with binge-watching and for that reason Netflix has evidently become the trash can of big studios that produced these films but they realized they would be a failure at the box office and therefore now they have someone to sell the rights and in addition avoiding the step of producing them on DVD and Blu-Ray and certainly any gain is better than a loss.

Extinction only reinforces what I think. This poor science fiction film produced by Universal with just 20 minutes into it shows that it would have been a huge failure at the box office and while I applaud they have a good Latino actor like Michael Peña who's not a gardener or a gang member in the story, in general terms the film is really bad. Lizzy Caplan is also involved but that's only anecdotal more than functional because nobody stands out a bit.

Extinction and the recent ''How it Ends'' go practically hand in hand. The quality is poor and the entertainment scarce and although it's another option for a catalog that unfortunately grows rapidly without quality, to me it's not a good option and I don't recommend it and I really hope Netflix will begin to take action on the matter because I think they can increase their catalog with higher quality films and have a solid offer for different viewers.
It's true that bad films sell, just watch the films they produce with Adam Sandlers, which are among their biggest hits, but I feel Netflix can do better. I really believe they can be better.

The premise itself is good, but so much potential is wasted on explaining dreams and feelings that it undermines the moments that you are supposed to care for the characters. This seems impossible.

Obviously you gotta take Sci-fi with a grain of salt, but even this movie makes it impossible to have it be believable. Humanity scared of Earth? The US couldn't defeat the Vietcong, but we are supposed to believe that androids can defeat 7 billion humans? Yeah i don't think so

It was a dread watching this in all aspects. It is a terrible movie, and it earns a 3/10 from me. (But at least it was better than The Predator and Alien Covenant).

Yeah this film is odd and not odd in a good way. It's bad, the acting is alright, but could have been way better. The graphics are good, but that's it. A lot of it didn't really make much sense either.

I appreciate what this movie attempts to do and attempts to be. Although based on a hackneyed premise, it hypothetically had potential. It wasn't terrible, but suffered from plot incoherence and weak leading roles.
