'Enola Holmes 2' means well with another female empowerment tale — this time based on actual events — but the formulaic execution, tons of exposition, and some mediocre acting make it your regular algorithmic Netflix film.

Somewhat entertaining up until 10 Minutes before the end. I recommend you stop there. After that the budget for the writers must have ended and some woke-politics group took over.

Ritchie's two Holmes, those of 2009 and 2011 with Downey Jr. and Law, were kept afloat by the director's visual intuitions. In this for now new diptych by Bradbeer there is nothing comparable, you forget it while watching it because until proven otherwise it is still cinema and not social propaganda, therefore the trend of updating to the new criteria of civil equality cannot be enough changing gender and ethnicity of 100 year old characters (btw: there were no gays, lesbians, trans, queers. Unforgivable). Like for Dominik's recent crap, one of the basic principles of marketing is applied: why invent new characters when you can exploit, appropriately manipulated and revisited, the old brands with their acolytes, followers, loyalists?

That's fine, I get it, playing within that game has nothing wrong with it if the quality is enough as in this case to justify its existence even if that doesn't mean in my case that I thoroughly enjoyed it.

In my opinion Enola Holmes 2 maintains the entertainment in a similar way to its predecessor, and I found it more competent in terms of script, although the pace does fall off in many moments, I think a more concise 100 minutes would have made this story a better film, but it's not a waste.

Ideal for the weekend. You won't think about it beyond that, except when they announce and release the more than inevitable third part.

It is a mediocre movie, nothing really stands out, nothing terrible. Kinda boring, first one was better, should have just rewatched that one.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What a huge let down after the first one. I thoroughly enjoyed the first one. And honestly I enjoyed this until the Moriarty reveal. I mean sure, it's a twist because you don't expect who it is. But you have certain expectations of Moriarty. You expect some diabolical criminal mastermind. Man or woman, it doesn't matter. But Moriarty was always the quintessential megalomaniac. When you think Moriarty you think masterplan. So this enitre movie and this plot builds Moriarty and you finally get there. Only to find out that it was all just a grudge against the patriarchy. And by all means, that's fine as a motivation but not for Moriarty. Expand

Sadly, it appears that the lightness, enjoyment, and silliness have all increased in this sequel. It's now a Hollywood thing to do, and if it promotes diversity, I don't hate the gender or ethnicity swap as much as other people do. I understand that it's attempting to be its own thing, but why link it to the Sherlock Holmes moniker when the entire feel is moving very far away from anything Holmes-related? To be honest, the final 15 minutes were a bit embarrassing and cringeworthy. Expand

Once it stops stubbing its toe, Enola Holmes shows off a good bit of action and mystery amidst its questionable and genre-bending subplots, making it nearly devoid of a true detective mystery flic.
