Probably the worst animated film ever made and imo a strong contender for most overrated film of all time. Wow, this is **** boring. There is NOTHING of interest here, there's basically zero story or adventure. Dreadful.

Okay, I don't usually write reviews (not for movies, anyway) but like wow. This movie was one of if not the best Disney movie I've ever seen. First of all, the animation quality was spectacular. Everything was so realistic and detailed yet soOkay, I don't usually write reviews (not for movies, anyway) but like wow. This movie was one of if not the best Disney movie I've ever seen. First of all, the animation quality was spectacular. Everything was so realistic and detailed yet so Disney-like at the same time. I felt like I was in the movie. Second, the cast for this movie is amazing. Their voices match the diverse personalities of their characters and their singing voices are great. Third, Lin Manuel Miranda did a terrific job with the songs in the movie. I loved every song and some of them, especially "We Don't Talk About Bruno" gave me chills because of how good it was written. Also, there are so many little details during the songs in the movie that make the songs so much more fun.… Expand

El mensaje de la película, precioso, centrándose en la familia y sin un villano ni un viaje, cosa que es arriesgada cuanto menos, todo en 4 paredes.
Quizás el desenlace es demasiado cercano al final, el último giro es muy tarde y no queda demasiado tiempo para la conclusión y puede que se haga algo apurado.

· Cosas buenas: el mensaje; la música, haciendo muchas veces de narración; el ritmo, nunca se siente lenta; y cómo no, los personajes y su diseño, súper carismáticos, súper diferentes, y súper encantadores.
· Cosas malas: sí que es verdad que en cuanto a mensaje, a animación y a música es muy muy parecida a Coco y, para mí, al final le falta algo de tiempo.
· Conclusión: va a ser un hito (ya lo es) de la animación de Disney, te va a gustar casi seguro, y a pesar de que me encantó, hay muchas pelis que pondría por delante porque se me hicieron más sorprendentes y me impactaron más, pero Encanto es, por lo general, una película redondísima.… Expand

It's been a while since a really good Disney movie came out that was just wholesome. A movie about family and love. The movie just has the "feels" from beginning to end. A feel-good romp.

Lots of music, so many songs. It is clear that notIt's been a while since a really good Disney movie came out that was just wholesome. A movie about family and love. The movie just has the "feels" from beginning to end. A feel-good romp.

Lots of music, so many songs. It is clear that not all the cast are natural singers, but the songs are catchy and even with a flat delivery, still very entertaining. In fact they feel a bit more natural because of this, giving the tone a genuine quality to the performance.

There are so many colourful characters, and most are given their moment to shine. This movie is one of the few times where I would say, it could have used a few extra scenes as there is just so much more they could have done. I really would have loved to spend more time with each if the family members.

I can easily see this continuing into a show someday, and if it follows the tone and spirit of the movie, it'll be a classic.

Overall:
Encanto is a fun family film that is perfect for the holidays. It isn't the most Epic Disney movie, but I do think it embraces the Disney wholesome recipe to the letter.… Expand

This is a beautiful film with a great moral; that if you try to always be strong or perfect then cracks will start to show. You can have the best house in the world, your children can have the most incredible talents, but if it’s not underpinned by unconditional love, empathy and kindness then your family will crumble. The songs are incredible and very ‘Lin-Manuel Miranda’ so I’ve had the soundtrack on repeat. The protagonist is so loveable and you really feel for her. Characters induce empathy easily even if many of them are more useless than anything else. The animations are gorgeous, the roles are varied and well displayed, the colours are bright, the themes addressed are amazing and original. The pace is great. The songs are iconic and totally ground-breaking.

The major inconvenient of 'Encano' for me is its ending (no spoil). It is rushed and ends up in the middle of nowhere, as if the movie chose to stop after a certain amount of time without taking the risk to link events to each other. It's a pity, because it made me have the impression that 'Encanto' was just another colorful video clip for children, because it doesn't allow an adult reading. In the end, few things drastically changed between beginning and ending. Interesting to watch, even if "Encanto" develops themes that he can not fully understand and face.… Expand

Encanto sucks as*! It is so…shallow. Not to mention that half of it doesn’t make sense. Some of the characters have character flaws amped up to 11 so forgiving them is impossible. But again, Disney went to new heights for the music. Some of which, like Surface Pressure, was a little too poppy for me. But either way, they went all in on the music and it payed off well. The music was what kept me watching the movie and is the only reason I didn’t give Encanto a 1. The animation and overall appearance of the movie was incredible. The story is about the Madrigal family who live in a secluded or hidden village in the mountains of Colombia build by former refugees. After a tragic event in the past their grandmother received a gift and every member of the family since then is blessed as young child with a magical ability. Be it superhuman hearing, (minor) weather control, superhuman strength, visions, shape-shifting or the ability to grow plants / flowers instantly. They use this to the benefit of all people in their town. Sadly Mirabel was the only one who did not get anything as it failed on her. Years later there is a strange occurrence that shows some hidden things and is a danger happens. I am vague here to avoid spoilers. The story is amazing and won me over from start to finish. It has good twist and the conclusion including lesson is truly great. I enjoyed the characters and say the whole Madrigal family is awesome and believable. I cant go more into details as it would be also too much spoilers but say everyone with a family or many relatives can understand this easily. Mirabel voiced by Stephanie Beatriz is a protagonist anyone can identify. Her emotions, struggles and journey are textbook examples how to create a great immersive character. Then there is the rest of the family with Alma (Maria Cecillia Botero), Luisa (Jessica Darrow), Bruno (John Leguziamo) and all the others I should name but are to lazy to type in. All characters work well and the voice actors are truly amazing. They sell the big family setting without any doubts. Like I said the songs are fantastic and won me a (mostly) Disney song hater over. I say it is one of the best soundtracks in an animated movie. The animations are colorful and have such a beautiful style. There is nothing to criticize for me. I will praise the effort of the whole team involved. Overall this is an easy recommendation not only for Disney fans or lovers of animated movies. I think it will become a timeless classic and praised by fans and critics alike.… Expand

I really liked the plot with Maribel coming to accept herself without a glaring "gift." Loved the Afro Latine and mestiza representation. I wished they could have gone more in-depth about Colombian history, but I understand that wasn't the focus of the movie. I’m a big fan of Disney’s animated films and had high hopes for this but it fell extremely short. The animation and colors are wonderful but the story line is anticlimactic and somewhat nonsensical. I usually cry my eyes out in Disney films (I’m looking at you Coco) but I didn’t even get teary-eyed in this one. It’s as if the writers wrote the first third of the story then randomly through the rest together. Many ends were left untied and very few of the characters where well developed. Additionally, this is probably my least favorite animated Disney film in terms of music. All the songs are just okay but nothing I need to listen to again or 100 times over (I’m looking at you Moana). The lead voice is also lacking (nasally, unfitting for the character animation). Overall it just lacked the master storytelling that Disney (and particularly Disney Pixar) is known to produce. Perfectly pleasant/mindless watching for young ones.… Expand

'Encanto' is an enjoyable and meaningful 102 minutes. The animation, as you expect from Disney, is superb and the world really comes alive beautifully and vibrantly. I like theA strong new entry into the Walt Disney Animation Studios canon.

'Encanto' is an enjoyable and meaningful 102 minutes. The animation, as you expect from Disney, is superb and the world really comes alive beautifully and vibrantly. I like the character designs and their story, with each one having something unique about them which is neat.

I had heard that some of the music from this 2021 flick has entered the charts here in the United Kingdom, though I purposely avoided listening to it as I wanted to keep it fresh for when I watched the film. Now I've done just that, I found the music to be very good - aside from "Surface Pressure" (no. 3 in UK), I don't think I'll be listening to any of it on my own time but - more importantly - it's impressively effective for the movie itself. "We Don't Talk About Bruno" might grow on me, mind.

The cast are fun. Stephanie Beatriz leads comfortably as Mirabel, while John Leguizamo is a great choice to play Bruno. The rest of the cast, though nothing extraordinary in my opinion, are all entertaining enough in their respective roles - namely María Cecilia Botero and Jessica Darrow.… Expand

While Mirabel and the Grandma were well developed and the movie has some emotional moments and nice visuals, all of this doesnt compensate by the fact that the movie lore is not exploited at all, remaining very simplistic overall and with a few plot holes here and there, like, we dont know why Mirabel doesnt recieve its gift, and why the house start to break in half movie. The songs, while good by themselves, they dont combine at all with the tone of the movie and they are just too much, padding the movie. A movie with this simplistic plot it should take much less than 2 hours. For last, the ending is one of the most forced and cliche endings i ever seen in a animated movie in a long time. With the house already destroyed, and the magic being gone, all of the people cries a bit, and later they decide to repair the house, and later it recovers the magic!!! Woowwowow, and happy ending!!! Wowowowowow. It was very predictable overall to be honest, and is a shame, because this movie shows that it wanted to introduce more unique things to it, but it never wants to be more than: meh, just magic and power of family love.
It shares some flaws with other recent Disney movies as well, like Coco, but Coco has a much more exploited lore and is just more interesting to watch, as well as more emotional, while Encanto feels like a downgrade of other animated movies with the same concept.… Expand

It was ok, this is just my perspective, but there was just way to much singing. I look at coco, and there was singing there, but not to the point where it takes up a good chunk of the film, and that's the lore you get from these characters inIt was ok, this is just my perspective, but there was just way to much singing. Like cmon we hardly got to know much about the buff girl, or anyone for that matter, other than mirabele . And then just horrible how everyone treated Bruno, just because he tells the truth. I'm actually more interested in the thousand day war that was taking place in Colombia during the grandmother's younger days. This movie is a masterpiece in any shape way or form. The movie has, as usual with Lin-Manuel Miranda, some of the most amazing music made for a Disney movie I have heard since I don't know when. The animation in this movie is also fantastic, embracing the beauty of the Coco movie's animation and taking it a step further, with even more beautiful colors, fun features, and attention to detail.

The story of this movie is incredibly well thought out and really encapsulates you and makes you never want to stop watching. Though the story is kind of complex and can be hard to understand, if not fully concentrated as it moves pretty quickly. Some of the smaller children might not get the message or whole story of the movie, because of this simple reason, though I wouldn't consider that a problem as the movie never feels boring.

This movie has a lot going for it and even if it might have some small flaws, feeling a little lacking of good character development at times, this doesn't really matter as the movie still feels comprehensive and finished. This in my opinion is easily one of Disney's best movies of all time. With incredible music, animation, and storylines this movie never really gets old and easily is deserving of a 10.… Expand

Love conquers all, forgiveness is therapy, fear is pain; all that stuff can either feel pretty innocuous or downright well-meaning. With "Encanto," however, even though it all still feels pretty benign, I think the mechanics of its resolution (without getting too much into detail) ultimately undercuts the pain inflicted upon the protagonist. Felt like a little too easy of a wrap-up for some of the "wrong-doers" within. Ethical missteps aside, though, I still enjoyed the overall experience. It's well-structured piece, featuring a great protagonist and some unsurprisingly stellar animation. The songs mostly do the job — none more so than "We Don't Talk About Bruno," if I'm being real — and the voice cast is to be commended for sure. The definition of "good, not great" for me, but I still can't say I regret the watch.… Expand

Encanto starts off well enough with brisk pacing and despite its large cast of characters,This movie's beautiful visuals, animation and presentation fully deserves a 10 but if you factor in the story and pacing then it drops down to a 7. Encanto starts off well enough with brisk pacing and despite its large cast of characters, Disney does a good job of introducing the likeable protagonist Mirabel and her family through songs and humor.

The movie can be boiled down to this — The children of a Colombian mother and all her blood descendants are given unique super powers by a magical candle but seemingly the protagonist was never given hers and she's sad about it. This little mystery as to why is a good hook to keep you watching to the end.

But not even half way in, issues in the movie's pacing begins when Mirabel goes looking for answers to a terrible vision she sees of the family house crumbling. At this point, the direction of the movie becomes disjointed and it lead to inconsistency in the pacing. It was like the writers came up with a beginning and an ending but didn't really know what to do with the middle. Also, the climax leading up to the resolution isn't very impactful since there is no real antagonist.

The ending was good. When you realize what Mirabel's true power is (as cliche it might be) you might find it was all worth watching and rate the movie higher than me. So there is a lot of good to say about the movie...it's beautiful to look at, it's filled with whimsical jokes, the animals are cute and it's filled with a good cast of characters. Would recommend to others. If I can give this movie a score with decimals it would be more like 7.9 but I can't round up and give it an 8. The movie has a weak middle and a weak climax, and together this makes up a big part of the movie.… Expand

Yes, unlike the abysmal Frozen 2 and the not so great Ralph breaks the internet, Disney returns with a damn good film with great themes that I myself can relate to. Mirabel is an awesome protagonist and the mystery of Bruno was very interesting and compelling. It honestly starts off slow in my opinion but definitely gets better as the film goes on. But honestly I predicted Mirabel was gonna hug the grandma character earlier on. So maybe a little predictable. It's pretty and I wanted to like it, but as a Latin-American I think the movie was a bit of a foreign view of Colombian culture. I was not expecting to like Encanto as much as I did. I thought it would just be good, but no, man! It's genuinely really great! Everything comes together from the cast of charming and distinct characters to the excellent music to some ofI was not expecting to like Encanto as much as I did. I thought it would just be good, but no, man! It's genuinely really great! Everything comes together from the cast of charming and distinct characters to the excellent music to some of Disney's best animation yet to some truly great and thought-provoking themes to a deceptively strong emotional core.

Truth be told, I could go on and on on why this movie just does it for me. If I had any complaints, it would be that the second half of the third act admittedly feels a little rushed (but it still works for what it is) and I wish we could've gotten even more of the delightful side characters, but otherwise, this is just such an easy movie to like and the better Disney animated movie to come out of 2021 imo. (I thought Raya and the Last Dragon was mediocre)

If you haven't checked this one out yet, I'd highly recommend it.… Expand

The music was exceptional, I especially loved the lyricism in the songs; my favorite songs were Surface Pressure, What Else Can I Do?, and We Don't Talk About Bruno. The writing was phenomenal; I loved how emotionally charged the movie was and the themes of the movie about family, trauma (specifically transgenerational trauma), embracing who you are, and not forgetting what's truly important in life were so well done and explored and also I love how they used symbolism, using Abuela's unexplored trauma to symbolize the unseen darkness threatening the family which in turn shows us how we can't keep trauma bottled up forever casue if we don't work threw our trauma it can't have a negative impact on more then just ourselves but on the ones we care for and love. The performances were superb especially from Stephanie Beatriz, María Cecilia Botero, Jessica Darrow, John Leguizamo, Diane Guerrero, Adassa, Carolina Gaitán, Rhenzy Feliz, and Mauro Castillo. This was an A+ movie, one of the best movies I've ever seen.… Expand

Setting is important but what’s more important for you to write a good story. Maybe it had a message or maybe it doesn’t but it should draw you in. Look at past success. Little mermaid. Every little girl wants to be a mermaid and then ultimately when they get older to find Prince Charming. It has elements of rebellion from your parents and going off on your own. It’s a tale of growth for a young girl. It’s a pretty fantasy. The first frozen. Super powers of ice. Also a princess to be a queen. Loss. family. Love of family is also powerful not just Prince Charming. I just didn’t feel as intrigued with this one. I loved coco but this one just didn’t pull me in the same way. Delving into other cultures in great but it should be second to your story telling. Just my two cents. Also, the protagonist is very likable and most of the characters in general have interesting personalities and are fun to watch on screen. There is diversity in the film, which is obviously a good thing in and of itself, but with many movies nowadays they make everything ABOUT race and pushing agendas. This is not that. Although I definitely had my issues. There are plot points that feel like they're leading up to something, and then just kind of... don't, which is weird. Also, some individual elements in there were just cringe. Like I get that it wants to appeal to the culture, but still. There was one musical number in particular which was like a random, out-of-place, Disney channel-inspired pop song and I did not like it; other than that though I will say that the music in this movie is pretty dang good. There were some bangers, actually. It's not incredible, but if you don't go in with the mindset that you're gonna hate it, and just sit down and take it in, it's an enjoyable movie. For anyone to watch honestly. It looks great, has good characters, heart, humor. I recommend.… Expand

The film tells the story of Mirabel Madrigal (Stephanie Beatriz), a girl who is part of the Madrigal family, a family where everyone has super-magic powers. But, is Mirabel of the same alignment as they are? An unexpected event that puts the family in danger, can change everything.

The storyline is well written. I really love the characters. They are funny and nice and the kind of people that everyone likes. My favorite parts are when Antonio Madrigal talks to the animals. I love animals and have always wanted to understand them. Watching this film gave me a greater desire to communicate with animals. This is magical! I also like the part when Mirabel is going to save the family and she says something funny. The special effects are terrific. Everything is super colorful. The background music is extraordinary; the music I like most is the adventure song when Mirabel takes off on her adventure. I love the adventure genre and this music accentuates it. As for costumes, I particularly love the costumes that show their tradition, yet at the same time, are contemporary outfits. They are so beautiful!

The message of the film is that we need to believe in ourselves, Never give up, because in the end you'll find a light.

I give Encanto 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 10 to 18, plus adults. Encanto releases in theaters and on Disney+ November 25, 2021.… Expand

I liked the songs (although I had to play several of the songs with subtitles so I could understand the lyrics). However, overall, I cannot say I enjoyed Encanto. I did not like the Abuela character. She treats Mirabel like a second rate family member because Mirabel does not have a special gift. Mirabel is not featured in the family picture, and she is encouraged to stay out of the way of the preparations for the party. It's not as if anyone in the family "earned" their gifts. The gifts were just bestowed. Bruno is also ostracized because he saw a bad vision for the family. There are some other instances in which the characters with gifts hold themselves higher than the characters without. I know it's supposed to be a playful animated film, so it may not be appropriate to over-analyze it. However, I could not help my resentment of some of the characters, and that kept me from making an emotional connection to the film.… Expand

Already predictable from only TRAILERS. It wasn't even good. I don't recommend it. I give it 1 and not 0 because of the animation.

Best film ever, it shows the Colombian Culture and how Colombians are white, black, indigenous and all in between. Can’t wait to visit this country

This movie is incredibly different from some of the trash Disney has put out in the last few years. With amazing music and incredible visuals which make it whole. This was an absolute blast to watch. I really loved the smaller scale story here. Disney animation movies are usually on a much larger scale and it was really refreshing to see the they focus on one central location instead of multiple. MostThis was an absolute blast to watch. I really loved the smaller scale story here. Disney animation movies are usually on a much larger scale and it was really refreshing to see the they focus on one central location instead of multiple. Most of the characters are pretty great as well. Mirabel, Luisa, Isabela, and Bruno were all well thought out and perfectly written. The other characters were fun but they were nowhere near as good as those 4 and I kinda wish some of them were on the same level. The animation and visuals are phenomenal. It’s the best looking animated film of the year. The movements look incredibly fluid and the environments look gorgeous. The music as well is great. A majority of the songs are really fun and catchy. The other songs I found to be somewhat forgettable though. The performances were all pretty good. I didn’t think there were any major standouts nor did I think anyone did a poor job. Everyone was good. The story itself and it’s message that you don’t need to have a special gift to be yourself works wonders for this film. I would definitely recommend checking this out when you can. It’s one of Disney’s best in my opinion.… Expand

As a Colombian I feel disappointed, nice graphics a lot of random elements but the history is poor and had no connection is kind of a lazy dialog and only visual part is interesting.

Yeah I really like Encanto. There's honestly very little objectively bad or flawed with it, a sharp contrast to stuff like Ralph Breaks the Internet or Frozen II, as much as I enjoy the latter. The few issues I do have with it aren't badYeah I really like Encanto. It's a great movie to watch with the family, but if we analyze it we will notice strong negative points, such as the simple problem solving, explanations and character development through the songs and the lazy ending.
