Having one Pixar film released yearly seems rushed beyond belief, but unrushed in terms of their quality. I think Disney needs to take a breather to produce less frequently to exceed expectations.

It is just not... as innovative and well-written as older Pixar films? The story is a bit too cliche for my taste, and I don't even mind the newest animated kids series that really are not, say, the most original such as Young Jedi. Could it be that Pixar needs a new creative director? And please do not start turning Pixar films into live-action films only because Disney sees a monetary opportunity. Expand

The animation itself as usual for Pixar is really great and some of the music is fun. But overall the characters are written poorly, the voice acting is flat and the story is nothing new and mostly unsurprising.

Cute little movie, nothing special; not as bad as you might fear seeing the trailers.
The idea that each element is a different race is not thought out at all, and heavily implies our differences arent just skin deep; many times showing explicitly that the different elements cant mix as they do actual physical harm to others just by being near each other. Not a great message for the kids.

Animation is decent. Fire looks very close to how fire should look in real life (is it perfect no but whatever), water looks dynamic (and love the wave for hair that Wade had).

Rent it and watch on Disney+, its decent but not great enough to see in theater but you might watch again.

It just feels like the same thing we've already seen. Over and over and over. Had we not already seen this formula coming from Pixar so many times it might be a different case. I got bored so many times watching it and I don't have the inclination to go back and watch what I missed. It's so unmemorable that in a week, if someone asked me to tell them about it I wouldn't be able to. Expand

The intent of making an original film with a weird concept is appreciated, but at the end of the day, everything feels very safe, and almost every character is forgettable. Nevertheless, I think the message of having your own dreams and not your parents is presented in a funny and heartfelt way. Also, fire animation is great. If only Pixar would've taken more risks with it. Expand

Disney made a mistake with its streaming service because it taught its viewers a lousy lesson when it comes to its movies, especially the animated ones: ''Don't go to the theaters, wait for their release on Disney+. Call it whatever you wantDisney made a mistake with its streaming service because it taught its viewers a lousy lesson when it comes to its movies, especially the animated ones: ''Don't go to the theaters, wait for their release on Disney+. Call it whatever you want but even though people like Guillermo del Toro keep saying that animation is not just for kids, the majority of the mainstream audience still sees it that way. As a minor genre. It's not a good thing, but it is what it is. Elemental may not have the quality of the best films that Disney/Pixar has made and that gave it all its prestige, but personally it remains a very interesting and entertaining installment. The animation is top-notch and the story is adequately balanced in terms of humor, fun, fantasy and romance, and that's quite independent of the opinion and vision others may have about its themes. Perhaps there's nothing original about it, but there's a very long distance between breaking new ground and telling a quality story in spite of some of its plot shortcomings. This film is not a missed opportunity, but it has become all too evident that Pixar has lost its spark of brilliance and above all better quality, and that for better or worse translates into films that fail to bring genuine excitement to the viewers. It didn't help to know that this was directed by Peter Sohn who was the director of the most forgettable Pixar film; The Good Dinosaur. Despite that, I gave it a chance,

Unfortunately, it seems I was correct in all my worries because this movie is very generic. The story is so unimaginative and lacking in any originality, its world-building feels overly complicated and questionable in all logic, the character designs look weirdly unappealing, and the message is so heavy-handed and not well executed. What it does do right though, is our two main leads. They are great and I enjoyed the moments of them together as it was very charming. The music score by Thomas Newman is terrific and it does enjoyably tell the generic story at least. I expect better from Pixar next time though...

This movie did the best that it could with the material and aesthetic it uses. This is a love story that takes very little inspiration from Romeo and Juliet and does an elemental twist to it to add some Differential factors to the film.

Is this film good to look at? yes.
Is it entertaining? mostly yes.
Does the story do something different? kind of.

The animation's pacing, story and Dialogue are subtle negatives. I really don't understand why this was set for a Theatrical release, this should go straight to Disney +.

Anyway, let me rant about the negatives.

The dialogue is garbage just like Nimona, it has its moments but it really does not like to talk or explain anything about this universe in a well-executed manner.

The music choice is a bit off if you were expecting a grand city adventure, this film lets down in every scene. There is nothing here that is like "Wow that's a pretty cool thing I've never seen before", it is more like "Oh it's just flowers", or "Hey they live in a pool". Again don't get me wrong, the animation is pretty to look at, but that doesn't mean anything if they don't do some interesting environmental work.

Ratings:

Visuals: 9/10, nice to look at but doesn't use it to pure maximum levels.

Characters: 6/10, There are more entertaining and relatable characters here than in Nimona(excluding Nimona).

Story: 5/10, Just a Standard love story, with a visual twist.

Plot and Pacing: 4/10, Pacing can't decide what scenes are important, Logically it is inconsistent.

Dialogue: 4/10, it's bare bones, and sometimes stupid in the way characters act.

And the Final Rating is, strange I was going to give this a 6/10, but I think it's on par with Nimona. It succeeds where Nimona Fails in some cases, yet to me, it's a 5/10. It gets some aspects right and the other overlooked aspects wrong.

Again, I rate animations fairly and easily. This movie as well does not meet the Animation Standard for it to be a film that you should go out and watch. It only succeeds because of the animation and the somewhat story flow it tries to pertain. I do not like this film and Don't intend to watch it again. PIXAR and Disney must do better. Is this the worst animation in the world though?

Definitely not, That goes to Strange World.

Thanks for reading, Don't forget to turn the stove off.

Message to Disney:
So Disney now that you're done screwing around with fire, can we get an Incredibles 3? Or do we have to wait another 10+ years for that too?

How about Big Hero 7?
Treasure Planet?
I know, Ratatouille 2.

Seriously why do we have to suffer through such unpleasant animation in 2023? What? Is creating a simple Idea of characters, stories and Plot lines so hard to do, I can literally do this in my sleep. Anyone with a brain and Imagines can do this.

Whoever Disney Hires to come up with all the material needs to be fired. Hire me instead, Hire anyone instead that loves animation and the cool things that can be done with it. You definitely won't regret it.

The end, So far...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First third: great, 8/10
Second third: still good but kinda lacking, 7/10
Final third: felt kinda out of place plus I don’t really like the romance stuff as much as some people, 6/10
I like the father/daughter relationship they had going on.
The worldbuilding had some issues though, why are they all on trains together if “elements don’t mix,” why aren’t they more segregated if they literally die when touching each other (fire and water, fire and earth) and some of them literally eat the others (fire eats wood aka earth).
Also the entire movie was a chemistry pun and the punchline wasn’t even that good.
They should’ve made the elements don’t mix thing more clear rather than just something a few people said
Overall, 7/10 because I liked it.

Seems as though many reviewers don't actually have a vocabulary or the ability to think past generic criticism and the use of the word "woke." Was this Pixar's best movie? No. Not by a long shot. Is the story one that has been toldSeems as though many reviewers don't actually have a vocabulary or the ability to think past generic criticism and the use of the word "woke." Was this Pixar's best movie? No. Not by a long shot. Is the story one that has been told before? Sure. But to rate this movie a 0 for the sole reason of it being "woke" is to 1. be blatantly racist and 2. pay zero attention to any other factors that make a movie a movie. If you were being more thoughtful, you might also ask, how was the animation? Stunning. Throughout the whole movie. What about the voice acting? Also pretty solid. Do I like all the choices made in the characters? No. But there's a lot of room on the spectrum between 0 and 10. And just because it wasn't Pixar's best effort doesn't mean it doesn't have any redeeming qualities. So do yourself a favor and just ignore anyone who took the time to review this and simply give it a 0. If anyone is being unimaginative and pushing an agenda, it's those people. Expand
