Unimaginative, same style as always in animation from pixar, and the same old recycled idea of “what if x thing had feelings”. Time to come up with original and good stuff. Because originality alone doesn’t make something good.

The third Pixar film to bomb in a row
Elemental is a very cliche plot of two worlds that love each other but family doesn't. Something we have seen since the 1400's. There is really no reason to go see this film as it has lame characters, bland dialogue, unfunny jokes. And it's just really boring. And just like lightyear, this movie hold nothing to make you care or remember the film. Honestly there really isn't much to say about this film, other than it's proven to see how far pixar has fallen over the years. And it's sad when not 1, not 2, but 3 of there past films have been critical failures. If this isn't a slap in the face and a huge punch to the gut. To get your stuff together and turn this train wreck around.

Another ideology-pushing flop from the top minds at Disney. Honestly, the movie is so bad that it may end up being the lowest earning Pixar project since Toy Story, and it’s all the result of Disneys decisions.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. How is It that this is one of the few Disney/pixar movies that Disney decided not to extend the run time because it was meant to be a little longer and you can tell because there are still things that don't get resolved a lot of plot holes that don't get filled and did we really need another opposite attracts kind of scenario I honestly felt more of a friendship vibe then a romantic vibe going on and story is just so basic. The whole movie feels like it was made out of obligation to fulfill the yearly Pixar movie quota rather than an interest in exploring an idea or characters. So much of the runtime is dedicated to cut-away gags that are practically begging you to find them clever, but none hold any impact as they're about as complex as something you'd find in a newspaper comic strip. The water people do water stuff! The fire people do fire stuff! That's about all the commentary or depth the movie has about the concept to which it entirely dedicates itself.

I feel like I've seen 'Element City' dozens of times in animated movies, because it's just another city. Zootopia did it, Turning Red did it, Big Hero 6 did it, hell even Wreck-It Ralph 2 did it, and that is one of the worst animated movies of all-time. There's nothing that separates any of this film from the generic and tiresome tropes that inspired it. Pixar has become far too comfortable with mediocrity (or worse) while other studios push forward with new and exciting ideas. I hope they change, because Elio doesn't look any better.

It also is a propaganda film that approves of & targets kids for: racism, misogyny, xenophobia, globalist-woke-socialism, gender ideology & gender conversion therapy.

Elemental takes the worst of Pixar's worst offerings (namely Lightyear's boring plot and characters, Cars 2's lazy and just bad humor, and The Good Dinosaur's inconsistent animation, poor character designs, and surface level themes) and merges them into arguably its most underwhelming film yet. Adding on to those flaws, the world building, while creative at points, just seems totally forced and doesn't work well from a basic concept, and the voice cast doesn't do the best job, which isn't surprising given just how little well-known actors and voice actors are involved in this project. It's really a shame to see how far Pixar has fallen and how it, along with Disney's animation division as a whole, is getting outdone from an animation, thematic depth, and story perspective by so many other animated studios, something Pixar used to set the gold standard for. I really hope they can bounce back, because Elemental might just be the studio's rock bottom. Expand

The movie is bad because it's just not very good. Poor characterization, lack of worldbuilding, and an unfocused story (as well as some uninspired character designs) hold this movie back from being something really special. While I was watching this movie I could feel myself wanting to like it, and similarly I could feel the movie wanting me to like it, but neither the movie nor I cared enough in the end to make me actually like it.

In short, way better than the Mario movie.

Cute little movie, nothing special; not as bad as you might fear seeing the trailers.
The idea that each element is a different race is not thought out at all, and heavily implies our differences arent just skin deep; many times showing explicitly that the different elements cant mix as they do actual physical harm to others just by being near each other. Not a great message for the kids.

Animation is decent. Fire looks very close to how fire should look in real life (is it perfect no but whatever), water looks dynamic (and love the wave for hair that Wade had).

Rent it and watch on Disney+, its decent but not great enough to see in theater but you might watch again.

Yes, the movie meanders here and there, but the beautiful love story - I can identify as I married someone from a completely different religion from my own - is so disarmingly innocent and sweet that it caught me off guard in a completely good way. Wonderful colors, scenery, ingenious setting, and just an absolute instructive masterclass on love and civility and the need to remember we’re a helluva lot more similar than different. This movie is not meant for the dull witted, cynical, unintelligent or hateful bozo. When a fire family immigrates to the city, Ember, the daughter, befriends a young water guy, Wade. This cultural conflict is a surprising plot for a Pixar film and it's handled with sensitivity. Some of the typical animation elements  are missing; no wacky sidekick, no elaborate musical numbers and only minimal action scenes. On the other side, the generation of the creatures with their constantly moving facets is continually beautiful and fascinating. This is primarily a sweet, heartfelt romance with lovely visuals.

As a first generation kid of immigrants I really related to the characters and their experiences. The subtle cues about trying to fit in among a world that’s not so welcoming were really well conceived. The animation is trippy and inventive, and the score is lovely. This is possibly the best "children's film" I have seen in ages, and before you disagree please read the rest of this review since I know most people here will hate it for completely understandable reasons.

First off, while the movie superficially paints itself as an anti-racist, hyper woke social commentary - for anyone looking below the surface this movie is basically racial nationalist propaganda. Hitler would have LOVED it.

That heart wrenching scene where the poor fire dad and his fire elemental daughter get turned away by an earth land lord? How horrible, how racist... except... they almost set the house on fire by TOUCHING THE DOOR BELL. Would you rent to someone who would burn your apartment complex down with the simple act of stepping inside of it? Yeah, neither would anyone else.

Then we have another great scene where the fire dad is taking fire daughter to a plant exhibit, and they're turned away at the door. Can you guess why? If you said it was because "they would have set the whole thing on fire" then you were RIGHT! The superficial thing here is that racism is bad, and actually you should destroy everything you've ever accomplished just so you don't hurt the feelings of people that look, act, and are fundamentally different from yourself. As no one actually believes this in real life (even the people who claim to), it comes across as very pro-racism.

Another cute scene involves two water people destroying the property of fire people and giggling while they do it. This is the presumably 'good' act, for those of you who haven't caught it on yet. When the fire people chase them out of the store and scream at them for malicious property destruction? Why, they're just being mean for no reason! I wonder how many 'youths' will see this scene and realize why convenience store owners watch them every time they enter the store? Probably not many. The 'youth' aren't very bright, you see.

I could go on, but while this movie had me laughing so hard I cried I do have other things to do so I'll wrap it up.

The final and best argument actually involves the movie's main couple, a girl made out of fire and a guy made out of water. In other words, if they so much as hugged at least one of them would be committing homicide at best. At worst, it's a suicide murder.

They should have titled this movie: "Pixar: Why we hate race mixing and why you should too."

Brilliant!

The romance was sweet and the characters were relatable. The pacing was excellent. The animation is where the film stood out most though. The movie is absolutely gorgeous. The characters in Elemental, being made of elements and not completely solid, bend and warp in ways that feel very natural for their respective elements and wouldn't have been as easy to model and animate as human or animal characters, who are far more rigid in comparison. Over all, the film is outstanding. I would definitely recommend watching it. Expand

I like the worldbuilding as we explore the different parts of element city. Ember is relatable to peopke who have similar issues. Wade is a good contrast to Ember, being able to be a foil to help her in her character arc. The visuals are spectacular and colorful. Cons-The story is decent but unfocused at times. I personally think Wade should have died so that the emotional impact of Wade's love for her would have been intensified. The film is not that bad,but not as impressive when compared to Guardians of the galaxy vol.3 and Puss in boots:the last wish. Expand

Call it whatever you wantDisney made a mistake with its streaming service because it taught its viewers a lousy lesson when it comes to its movies, especially the animated ones: ''Don't go to the theaters, wait for their release on Disney+. Call it whatever you want but even though people like Guillermo del Toro keep saying that animation is not just for kids, the majority of the mainstream audience still sees it that way. As a minor genre. It's not a good thing, but it is what it is. Elemental may not have the quality of the best films that Disney/Pixar has made and that gave it all its prestige, but personally it remains a very interesting and entertaining installment. The animation is top-notch and the story is adequately balanced in terms of humor, fun, fantasy and romance, and that's quite independent of the opinion and vision others may have about its themes. Perhaps there's nothing original about it, but there's a very long distance between breaking new ground and telling a quality story in spite of some of its plot shortcomings. This film is not a missed opportunity, but it has become all too evident that Pixar has lost its spark of brilliance and above all better quality, and that for better or worse translates into films that fail to bring genuine excitement to the viewers. Unfortunately, it seems I was correct in all my worries because this movie is very generic. The story is so unimaginative and lacking in any originality, its world-building feels overly complicated and questionable in all logic, the character designs look weirdly unappealing, and the message is so heavy-handed and not well executed. What it does do right though, is our two main leads. They are great and I enjoyed the moments of them together as it was very charming. The music score by Thomas Newman is terrific and it does enjoyably tell the generic story at least. I expect better from Pixar next time though...

At the heart of this amazing movie is a timeless love story, of two elementally different individuals seeing the light shining in each other and coming together against all odds. My family and I were swept away by the simple sweetness of this film. Director Peter Sohn has done well. There is also a beautiful father-daughter story interwoven into this film, and as the father of 4 princesses, I can definitely relate. The timeless lesson of letting your kids follow their dreams is retold in a beautiful way, and even more so, the critical importance of parent and child respecting each other. The animation is spectacular, I love how the various elements are represented, and how they interact with each other in various moments. The character design is spot on, and the closer you look the more details emerge. Hats off to how far Pixar animation has come. For some time I thought a 5th unifying element would emerge but that was wishful thinking. Finally, the soundtrack is a real delight, I truly appreciate the South Asian themes as my region of origin. Master composer Thomas Newman took a bold risk weaving in those elements, and it paid off. I have not enjoyed a Pixar movie this much since Coco; they need to stay true to such heartwarming story-telling and inspiring imagination. Expand

This movie did the best that it could with the material and aesthetic it uses. This is a love story that takes very little inspiration from Romeo and Juliet and does an elemental twist to it to add some Differential factors to the film.

Is this film good to look at? yes.
Is it entertaining? mostly yes.
Does the story do something different? kind of.

The animation's pacing, story and Dialogue are subtle negatives. I really don't understand why this was set for a Theatrical release, this should go straight to Disney +.

Anyway, let me rant about the negatives.

The dialogue is garbage just like Nimona, it has its moments but it really does not like to talk or explain anything about this universe in a well-executed manner.

The music choice is a bit off if you were expecting a grand city adventure, this film lets down in every scene. There is nothing here that is like "Wow that's a pretty cool thing I've never seen before", it is more like "Oh it's just flowers", or "Hey they live in a pool". Again don't get me wrong, the animation is pretty to look at, but that doesn't mean anything if they don't do some interesting environmental work.

Ratings:

Visuals: 9/10, nice to look at but doesn't use it to pure maximum levels.

Characters: 6/10, There are more entertaining and relatable characters here than in Nimona(excluding Nimona).

Story: 5/10, Just a Standard love story, with a visual twist.

Plot and Pacing: 4/10, Pacing can't decide what scenes are important, Logically it is inconsistent.

Dialogue: 4/10, it's bare bones, and sometimes stupid in the way characters act.

And the Final Rating is, strange I was going to give this a 6/10, but I think it's on par with Nimona. It succeeds where Nimona Fails in some cases, yet to me, it's a 5/10. It gets some aspects right and the other overlooked aspects wrong.

Again, I rate animations fairly and easily. This movie as well does not meet the Animation Standard for it to be a film that you should go out and watch. It only succeeds because of the animation and the somewhat story flow it tries to pertain. I do not like this film and Don't intend to watch it again. PIXAR and Disney must do better. Is this the worst animation in the world though?

Definitely not, That goes to Strange World.

Thanks for reading, Don't forget to turn the stove off.

Message to Disney:
So Disney now that you're done screwing around with fire, can we get an Incredibles 3? Or do we have to wait another 10+ years for that too?

How about Big Hero 7?
Treasure Planet?
I know, Ratatouille 2.

Seriously why do we have to suffer through such unpleasant animation in 2023? What? Is creating a simple Idea of characters, stories and Plot lines so hard to do, I can literally do this in my sleep. Anyone with a brain and Imagines can do this.

Whoever Disney Hires to come up with all the material needs to be fired. Hire me instead, Hire anyone instead that loves animation and the cool things that can be done with it. You definitely won't regret it.

The end, So far...

Second third: still good but kinda lacking, 7/10
Final third: felt kinda out of place plus I don’t really like the romance stuff as much as some people, 6/10
I like the father/daughter relationship they had going on.
The worldbuilding had some issues though, why are they all on trains together if “elements don’t mix,” why aren’t they more segregated if they literally die when touching each other (fire and water, fire and earth) and some of them literally eat the others (fire eats wood aka earth).
Also the entire movie was a chemistry pun and the punchline wasn’t even that good.
They should’ve made the elements don’t mix thing more clear rather than just something a few people said
Overall, 7/10 because I liked it.

A really kind, sweet story.

The plot centers on two elementals, Amber and Wade: fire and water, united by inner passions and outer differences. They are in the city of elements, where discrimination and prejudice try to destroy the beautiful and tender beginning of their romance. The hallmark of the movie is the gorgeous artwork that creates a colorful and vibrant world. The City of Elements with its unique neighborhoods, houses and inhabitants comes to life on the screen with incredible detail and brightness. Every element of decor, every building, is imbued with uniqueness and symbolism, immersing the viewer in the unique world of the characters. But not only the visual side is impressive - the musical accompaniment also deserves a special admiration, adding a note of tenderness and harmony to the movie.

Despite the fact that the basic plot seems familiar, it is revealed through the prism of a unique concept of elements and harmonious animation. This gorgeous piece of art demonstrates how small details can create a huge impression of a movie.

The gorgeously integrated social aspect adds depth to the story. The inability to accept and understand each other because of the differences between the elements is a vivid reflection of real cultural and racial gaps. The movie gives us a chance to look deep within ourselves and reflect on our relationships with those around us, calling for unity and understanding.

Unfortunately, due to the film's weak promotional campaign, the large number of noteworthy summer movies, modest box office receipts and other factors, "Elemental" is unlikely to get the recognition and sequel it deserves, though it is bound to enjoy it like no other.

"Elemental" is not only a movie for kids, but also a wise message for adults. For me, this movie was one of the best representatives of animated cinema this year, and it definitely deserves its place next to the masterpiece "Across the Universe." This movie will definitely give you a smile, kindness and warmth, as well as give you a glimpse into yourself and reflect on your own attitudes and beliefs.

Agradable y capaz. RICARDO VALERO, JULIO 2023, ESPAÑA.

Is the story one that has been toldSeems as though many reviewers don't actually have a vocabulary or the ability to think past generic criticism and the use of the word "woke." Was this Pixar's best movie? No. Not by a long shot. Is the story one that has been told before? Sure. But to rate this movie a 0 for the sole reason of it being "woke" is to 1. be blatantly racist and 2. pay zero attention to any other factors that make a movie a movie. If you were being more thoughtful, you might also ask, how was the animation? Stunning. Throughout the whole movie. What about the voice acting? Also pretty solid. Do I like all the choices made in the characters? No. But there's a lot of room on the spectrum between 0 and 10. And just because it wasn't Pixar's best effort doesn't mean it doesn't have any redeeming qualities. So do yourself a favor and just ignore anyone who took the time to review this and simply give it a 0. If anyone is being unimaginative and pushing an agenda, it's those people. Expand

It's not that bad, guys. Some people need to lighten up and stop giving Pixar a hard time.

Goes hard on mute! 10/10 would recommend only if you mute the sound otherwise dialogue is unbearable.

I obviously don't get why people hate this movie. I think this movie was good to me. Even if it's the same formula, I like the characters, especially Ember because she really relates to me whenever I outburst while having mood swings.
