Original fresh, and in the Summer of 2014, what more can you ask for.. It has action, drama, comedy etc. Worth a matinee or date night. One of the few movies anymore that are good, and unpredictable.

Before watching this movie, I read the manga adaptation of the novel from where the movie was based on. I have an idea of what will happen during the story but they still have their differences.

Different that the movie puts more humor in a kind of dark movie which is a plus; and, the movie put more perspective into the relationship between Cage (Tom Cruise), Rita (Blunt), and his crew members.

The action scenes were quite terrific. Reliving the experiences and going on another path gives the scenes freshness even though most of the battles are on the same geographical location. What were missing though are gigantic monsters to kill to give an epicness on the battlefield.

The effects and sounds were excellent. You would see how beautiful a plane crash would be and how loud a machine gun fires. What I like the most is the Power Suit or the armor worn by the soldiers during battle scenes. You'll feel the power it provides just by looking how the characters wear them alone.

The Character development of Cage is excellent. The psychology of war and death has made him more prepared for the next battle. Likewise, it also created a longing for peace inside him.

The story is somewhat of a cliche as alien versus human have been created since the dawn of film making. How we get to the end would be the best part of it. On the title page, you would notice the word Live.Die.Repeat. I won't spoil you much, but the words will heavily impact how you see things in the story.

Overall, this is an excellent movie and a recommended watch to those who like sci-fi, who are war enthusiasts, who like aliens versus humans, and avid video gamers. There are not much of a Twilight romance to be found in the story, but you would still see the relationship of Cage and Rita develop in an implicit kind of way.

I gave this movie 9/10. The ending of the movie is a "meh" for me. As I've said before, I've read the manga which is faithful to the novel this movie is based on. I liked the ending on the manga hence I deducted one point.

A science fiction action filled version of Groundhog Day! Just substitute Tom Cruise for Bill Murray, an alien horde for the groundhog, and add some futuristic weaponry. It was a fun ride

It seems to be the typical summer movie, with the only purpose of raising money, but do not be fooled, it's one of the best films, of the science fiction genre, in recent years.
It has a seemingly simple plot, but it becomes complicated, and in my opinion,it is really good, thanks to Tom Cruise, who is brilliant in his role as the protagonist of the film, but without underestimating Emily Blunt, who manages to be one of the Top heroines of recent times. Also to highlight its impressive special effects, although not justify spending nearly 200 million in the film, even though the script makes up for it.
In short, a film that should be given a chance, I will not disappoint you.

Costing an estimated $178 million, it only recovered $28 million opening weekend getting beat by a movie made for less than a tenth of its budget; The Fault in Our Stars. This failure could be attributed to Tom Cruise’s falling star power (especially among teens), however I think it is due to the inability of the posters and trailers to capture how much fun the movie’s formula is.
Based on the novel All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka (which would have been a better title) The Edge of Tomorrow combines a number of sci-fi concepts and devices with the time loop effect popularized by Groundhog Day. While nearly everything in the film is borrowed from other sources, the way the film combines them is never dull.
The film opens with Tom Cruise as Cage, a slimy war recruiter and military PR man, delivering lines of expository dialogue. We are efficiently brought up to speed with what is happening. The world is under attack by aliens, Europe has been taken over and the world is launching a unified last ditch effort to save mankind. It’s the kind of background that is familiar to the genre and Doug Liman recognizes this and sends us immediately into the action.
The war effort appears to be headed by General Brigham (Brendon Gleeson) who sends Cage to the front lines. The scene feels forced. It’s essentially a plot mechanic to get Cruise into the fight. After a brief introduction of some (very) flat supporting characters the battle begins. Cage manages to survive long enough to kill a large blue alien that melts acid over his face. This provides Cage with the Groundhog Day powers; every time he dies the day repeats. The twist is that he must die or else he loses them.
Cruise’s performance works as he transitions from a rookie recruit to a killing machine with the help of macho Emily Blunt. The pair’s chemistry is one of the reason’s the film succeeds. The fight/die/repeat mechanic makes the incredible fight sequences more believable and at times surprisingly funny.
While the film reminds us it is a Hollywood production with a predictably cliché ending, when the action is going Tom Cruise shows us why he’s one the best. While individual pieces are nothing original, the film adds up to more than a sum of its parts.

I usually do not like Tom Cruse movies but decided to give it a try. I am glad I did. It is another alien invasion movie and plenty of stereotypes are there. But this idea of re-living the same day, even not entirely new, is implemented with imagination. Taking into account the movie's genre, the script is quite good and even funny. This combination of sci-fi and action kept me even nervous. Acting was quite good, especially by Emily Blunt. It is not a piece of art, of course, but as a piece of entertainment, it is excellent.

The action and effects are great, but the plot is also pretty cerebral for a summer action movie. It's kind of a hybrid of Groundhog Day, Inception, and Saving Private Ryan, but it still feels fresh and original. There are even some moments of deeper contemplation sprinkled throughout. Cruise can still sturdily support an action movie in his 50s, which is a pretty tough thing to do, even at a young age. If I have any lucid complaints about the movie, it's that the finale doesn't ever rise to the extreme heights that it could, or more accurately, should have, given the strength of the film's buildup. Still though, you should go see the movie, because it's very entertaining, and it could end up being the best movie of the summer. Expand

EOT was simply stealing S.C.'s whole idea (minus the really interesting, nuanced parts which I won't give away in case you haven't seen it), inserting Tom Cruise and changing the emergency from bombings (S.C.) to aliens. Very pathetic ripoff IMHO. Sorry, but Tom as the save-the-day hero is getting really old. Can't movie producers come up with their own ideas anymore? Expand

Comparisons to Groundhog Day are inevitable, for the same premise is in effect here. One man is doomed to live the same day and over and over until he achieves what he set out to do. In the 1993 film starring Bill Murray as the unfortunateComparisons to Groundhog Day are inevitable, for the same premise is in effect here. One man is doomed to live the same day and over and over until he achieves what he set out to do. In the 1993 film starring Bill Murray as the unfortunate protagonist caught in a cosmic loop, a supernatural force condemned him to repeat the day every time he went to sleep at night, for he was the victim of his own moral lassitude and his inability to feel any empathy for his fellow human beings. However, he falls in love with a journalist played by Andie MacDowell, who is an angel by comparison, and in order to win her, he has to change, and since he has only one weekend to woo her, the divine solution is to repeat the day countless times until he gets it right. As a result of the time warp afforded by this exercise in infinity, he learns to play the piano, he learns to speak fluent Italian, he becomes a skilled ice sculptor, and he learns to feel compassion for others. And then he gets the girl, and the time warp magically ends. Finally, he achieves his goal—to become morally perfect and to move on to the next day.

In Edge of Tomorrow, Tom Cruise’s character, William Cage, is not the humorous and ironic character that Bill Murray plays, nor is his assignment to cover Punxsutawney Phil’s shadow on Groundhog Day. He is an army major who has been wrongly assigned to combat in a futuristic D-Day. This time the shores of Normandy are crawling with aliens, not Germans, and they are a hateful species of octopus-like creatures, known as Mimics, who come barreling along like whirling dervishes. They are controlled by a monster octopus, their Emperor, who acts as a universal consciousness. They can only be stopped if the Emperor dies.

Not having seen weaponry since basic training, Major Cage comes close to refusing his orders, finds himself accused of desertion and is then abducted and locked into a robot-style combat outfit on D-Day the Second. He is deployed against his will, and he immediately blunders, makes a wrong move, and he is killed on the beach, but not by one of the drone aliens—he is killed by a rare, superior Mimic whose blood imparts to Cage the ability to die and then wake up alive to start the day again. Each time he remembers the mistakes from the previous day, and each time he corrects himself and gets a little closer to his goal before stumbling and getting killed again.

The tension of reliving the same day in Edge of Tomorrow does not have the same level of variety and innovation that we saw in Groundhog Day. The plot is advanced by the need to save the world from an alien invasion. The lack of variety in the different scenarios is offset by Cage’s understanding of the predictable features he will encounter each time he wakes up after being killed. He learns how to handle the crewmates who think he is arrogant and who reject him for being woefully lacking in combat skills. He learns how to deal with the hard-as-nails drill sergeant (Bill Paxton) who has no respect for him and treats him with contempt. And he recognizes the renowned “Angel of Verdun,” Rita (Emily Blunt), a female soldier who somehow had mastered the art of killing Mimics, because she too had been infected with the blood of a Mimic, and she too reset the day each time she was killed, always learning from her mistakes—until one day, she was wounded but didn’t die, and a blood transfusion robbed her of her power. When she sees Cage on the battlefield, she recognizes his condition, and they join together. Whenever they reach the point where they fail, she kills him to reset the day and start over. And each time he has to reintroduce himself, make her understand who he really is, and try to advance a little further once again.

There are a few places in the film where the action lags, and although the chemistry between Cage and Rita is interesting, her complete lack of femininity as a soldier with an obsessive mission prevents any romance and renders her more mechanical and less human than she should have been. Nevertheless, Blunt delivers a powerful performance, and Cruise is masterful. The ending spells a deliverance that the viewer did not expect, and strong supportive roles by Bill Paxton and Brendan Gleeson (as the grouchy general who wants to destroy Cage’s pretty face) add layers of depth and nuance that the film might not have had otherwise. Tom Cruise is magnificent as he carries the entire film with ease, and he seems to be getting better with age.

I only caught a few moments of swearing in the movie as well. You can feel comfortable taking your 11, 12, 13 year old to see this. There also was not any inappropriate love scenes or nudity. I'm not really a big fan of Tom Crews, but the concept of this story surprisingly overshadows his character in a good way. Highly recommend. One of the most enjoyable films we've seen in years. One of the top 3 best movies I've ever seen. When I saw the poster the movie looked strange to me, and I know a lot of people hate Tom Cruise for some reason, but he's a great actor, I'm not big on his older movies but this one was completely organic. I don't know if it's just me but when I watched it again I fully understood what was happening, I noticed a lot of things I missed the first time, the movie is so meticulously written and it's one of those movies everyone has to see, it's up there with The Matrix and Dark Knight. The movie revolves around time travel, it's not vague like you often see in sci-fi where you don't really understand what's happening, it's simple like Groundhog Day, speaking of Groundhog Day this movie is very inspired by Groundhog Day. EoT will make you feel nostalgia, fear, joy, etc. I won't spoilerize anything, all I can say is that it's one of the best movies ever made, it's gritty, it's dark and they did a great job avoiding plot holes, something Days of Future Past was chalk-full of. Avoid the Angry Joe review, he spoils the **** out of every single thing he reviews, he always tells you what happens at the end which ruins the movie/game.

+ Gritty/Dark/Scary
+ Great acting
+ Great production
+ Great plot
- Not gory enough
- Action scenes are kind of hard to make out sometimes
- Music isn't great and memorable like Inception/Dark Knight/Matrix/etc. I always said that music makes a gargantuan difference in quality but this movie did just fine without it

"Edge of Tomorrow" introduces us to a futuristic reality, one where aliens have invaded Earth and have almost destroyed the human race. The story focuses on Major William Cage, an officer who has never seen a day of combat, and who is thrown into that reality. Killed within minutes of being in the battle field, Cage however is immersed in the alien creatures DNA, which grants him the capability of reliving the same day over and over. Reliving this day consecutively, allows him to meet Rita Vrataski, an experienced and phenomenal officer, who had the same power as he does (who lost it in the meantime). Together they both try to devise a way to reach the hive that commands all the invading alien creatures.
Doug Liman is a resourceful director, one who excels in story lines where the central character is usually completely unaware of their own potential and strength (which was the case of "The Bourne Identity" for instance). In this case, William Cage is the unaware hero, who by force of circumstances is forced to overcome his fears, and make a sacrifice to save humanity. The action set pieces flow seamlessly, and though huge in scope and ambition, the film never feels saturated by its visual effects (they allow for the action to be simultaneously realistic and futuristic). The actors are uniformly excellent, from Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, to the underrated Noah Taylor and Bill Paxton. The cinematography from Dion Beebe is also one of the highlights of the feature. A very entertaining film worth watching!

Why did they not advertise that in this film there is the magnificent Bill Paxton! C'mon, everyone loves the Pax Man and you can tell that here he is thoroughly enjoying his more-than-humorous roll. Advertising, why you do dis!?

So Tom Cruise. 51 years old. Same ageless face. Same gigantic teeth. Kinda can't help but feel he was the reason this film isn't doing so well at the moment. Some people really dislike him and I feel he was a turnoff for the kind of audience that would love this film. Now personally, I don't mind the dude. Yeah he's full on 'MURICAN sometimes and the Scientology thing is... weird, at best, but surprisingly I liked him in this movie. Instead of the hands-on full-force gun-toting OTT super-soldier he usually plays, in Edge of Tomorrow we see a cowardly military officer who's a newcomer to any kind of warfare or combat. And it's fresh to say the least; the film is all about a nobody who, through the power of repeating the same events in a Groundhog Day style, becomes one awesome super hero almost by the end of the movie.

You also got the aforementioned Bill Paxton, who is beautiful in every way, Emily Blunt as the 'Full Metal **** who's like an English Ellen Ripley, and a bunch of British misfits who are sometimes pretty cheesey, but overall a joy. The film is obviously quite Alien inspired (you get this idea from the moment you first see the Pax Man) as the Mech-suits and the weapons all feed that memorable tone. As I said before, Cruise repeats the same events while accumulating knowledge in a Groudhog Day style and the film is all about how he can stop this alien threat (they're called 'Mimics') by becoming more and more accustomed to the war that takes place. It's a fresh and inspired idea, the delivery is spot on, the humour throughout keeps the overall story from going stale and it's just all handled so well... Apart from the ending, which, while not really making that much of an impact negatively, is just 10 minutes that literally could not and should not exist. You'll see what I mean.

This film is just so fun and awesome. It's not great, but as good as the next best thing. I would recommend this to fans of Alien, people who enjoy a little dark humour and those who wanna repeatedly see Tom Cruise get the **** beaten out of him.

Don't ask yourselfAn entertaining "science-fiction" movie if you don't mind semi-checking in your brain at the entrance and just being there for the action. The story itself has some serious loop-holes that you might have trouble ignoring. Don't ask yourself too many questions, or any questions, and you'll be fine. It's really decent entertainment, but if you're looking for a really good sci-fi movie, you might want to pass on this one.
Matrix like aliens invade the planet (why?), US major without much or any combat training suddenly finds himself serving under a British CO and is dropped on the battlefield (why?), lots of questions go unanswered as there isn't all that much depth to the story, but the action kind of makes up for that. The ending is also rather unsatisfying, but seeing a different Tom Cruise for a change does have upsides.

But the film has this morbid sense of humor that really pushes it to the next level. So please, go out there and see Edge of Tomorrow if you haven't already, it's definitely worth your time

“Edge of Tomorrow” is a fast paced science fiction movie and Emily Blunt is really kick ass. Cruise as all other casts did a great performance. All costumes and FX effects where just state of the art.

I listened to the original novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka and it really hooked me fast. The storytelling in the movie was different from the book. But both are very sharp and really keeps up a frantic pace through it all. However, the description of fear of war, the relationship between the main characters and the gripping ending was inimitable in the book or original for me.

Last but not least the awesome trailer soundtrack "This Is Not the End" by Fieldwork was totally skipped in the movie soundtrack? I really missed it as part of the movie or at least at the end of it.

This film has some excellent moments, feeding off a sci fi hybrid of groudhogs day, saving private ryan, and any recent alien invasion saga. The design is excellent. The mimics look great and are actually quiet frightening when introduced. The repetitive nature of the story works because Liman is able to keep it moving without going over unnecessary parts. The editing works in favor, though I did feel that some of the later reboots were a little vague in detail. Blunt looks awesome carrying that huge sword and killing aliens. Cruise is good enough to play the every man that progresses through the movie to be come a top solider. -A here. Expand

This is a very good SF movie. Too bad it basically steals its plot line from the SF film Source Code made a few years ago. Nothing else to add. maybe they should try and come up with something that isn't a 50% or 100& copy of something else.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved the scene where Emily kisses Tom before sacrificing herself as the decoy... though she only met him for less than two days, she knows that Tom is in love with her just by the way he stares at her (Tom Cruise delivered a masterful performance in an action film, as usual)...

because she herself has done her fair share of looping, by getting to the Omega lair, she's cognizant of the fact he has already spent a lifetime with her, fighting and dying beside her, over and over again... she empathizes how difficult it was watching a loved one die, like she had done more than 300 times... it takes a lot of will power to start the day over from scratch to anticipate another failure, and she gets it... she's the only other human who does...

her final kiss reveals how she's touched by it all, despite trying to avoid getting him emotionally vested by appearing cold all the time... they both know it might be their last time together... after all, she dug him at first sight by her expression every time Cruise walks in on her training routine when they first meet... maybe seeing her back alive after a restart is what drives Tom Cruise to get back up on his feet to face another death... no longer was he motivated by survival, but by love...

It's these emotional nuances in films or tv shows audience can connect with that makes them worth watching.

So much better than anything in this genre that I've seen in a long time. They raised the bar with this movie. It reminded me of the way I felt when I saw classic big-budget sci-fi action movies like Aliens or T2 for the first time. Just that feeling of hollywood at its best. There were a lot of smart choices in this, including the male and female leads' relationship, which was atypical for a popcorn flick but still satisfying.

Despite the nature of the story I thought that most of it was coherent except for the very end. But time travel is generally an incoherent concept anyway, so it didn't bother me too much. It's weird because I just saw X-men yesterday and had a similar confused feeling about the end and the way that time travel played into it.

The action was great and I was interested the whole time, so it is a pretty good summer movie worthy of praise I suppose. At the same time it is filled with plot holes and does drag on in parts. The performances were also uneven. Tom Cruise was extremely static the entire film when the role requires amazing dynamism, but with few exceptions the other performances were fantastic. Emily Blunt performs her role flawlessly with great help from the script and manages to be drop dead gorgeous while doing it. Brendan Gleeson (Mad Eye Moody in the Harry Potter films) is terrific as always and Bill Paxton delivers exactly what his character is meant to convey.

This movie was difficult for me to rate because while I had problems with it while walking out of the theater, I was interested the whole time and quite entertained. Additionally, it is a great subject of conversation following the movie. I would say the movie is not a "must see," but is a fun activity for the summer nonetheless.

Its official. Tom Cruise is on a self hating streak. First he fights himself in Oblivion, now he must kill himself again and again in this film in order to "reset" the day.
Not that I am complaining. Unlike Oblivion, which started out really slick but had the predictable plot implode with sci-fi twists, Edge of Tomorrow takes a simple but unique premise and executes it masterfully.
This film carefully shows us just enough to give us that sense of repetition without actually being repetitive. Often its done with a couple of seconds of establishing shot, or one line from a supporting character. The plot is self consistent. It suffers from two major Hollywood shortcuts. Kill the main bad guy and the rest will fall. And I won't spoil the second one but it has to do self sacrifice. Other than that it is a completely original story.
For the characters. Emily Blunt is very much the star of the show. She acts impressively well against Tom Cruise's character. Tom Cruise has only ever been able to play one guy. Modulated or regulated depending on the roll but one basic "guy." This film took that in an interesting direction. At the start of the film his character is more complex, being a hypocritical coward. As the film progresses he sheds aspects of that to eventually become the character we are more familiar with. It gave his character more of a story arch. Emily Blunts character didn't really change (per the plot), but as the film goes on you learn more about her back story and she becomes more interesting. She also serves as a foil to Cruises character and it worked really well.
Aliens have been done quite often in film but the creatures presented in this film are an interesting take on it. Being entirely prop or CG with no human element at all was extremely effective. These creatures look like some kind of deep ocean life form hybrid and are suitably threatening. Speaking of which the CG and special effects are top notch.
All things considering, this is probably the best sci fi film of the summer, if not the year.

Their are a lot of cool effects that are in here that make the 3d worth it. Don't wait for dvd. Go see this movie on the big screen or you will regret it. The brink of the future - the best film so far this year. And even the best fiction film last 2-3 years. In the phrase "See can not miss", a comma should be put after the word to watch.

Skip this film - a crime. You know, this is the rare case where the trailer was worse than the film, but not vice versa. I expected tsvetoponosa, vanilla, and a confused story of three sets. In general, the film seemed that kind of category B-movie, filmed for a penny and a case of vodka. But this is not the case.

Unlike thousands of similar pictures here well done absolutely everything. Acting? Lovely! Even though I can not stand Tom Cruise, here he played on a solid top five. SG companion usually stupid and annoying. And here you are literally sympathize with Rita. Worried that it can kill. Yes and its just a great game (especially the scene in the barn).

Special effects? They are excellent here. When injected into the alien or not svetoponosa fighter, he just breaks into pieces. What the doctor ordered. Especially here managed to convey a picture in the dark.

The plot? Despite borrowing the concept of Groundhog Day, here he is great. There is no question why SG did so, why so, and not otherwise. No issues and physics. In theory - why not.

Find fault with the logic in this film too will not work. Everything is quite logical and not sostykovok not here.

In general, it turned out beautiful, dynamic fantastic movie. Are you worried for the characters and can not predict the ending. Until recently I was fidgeting in his chair, in 99% of cases this does not happen with me. The film will still remain long in the memory.

Watch in 3D I do not advise, and there is nothing special there except a couple of moments.

Overall a very well made movie. 9/10. See, you can not miss!

I'm giving this move a 10 because it has all the elements of an entertaining film - action, suspense, humor and good production value which add up to an entertaining time. Basically it's Groundhog Day meets War of the Worlds.

Now I'm a pretty big science fiction fan but I often don't like alien invasion films because the idea that humans are going to win a war against another alien invaders whose technology is hundreds of thousands of years more advanced than us usually falls to some ridiculous idea that although they traveled millions of light years to get here they forgot to check the air or the water before they started their invasion. Edge of tomorrow had a much more creative plot line, which really is the basis of the whole story.

I liked the film so much that i went back to see it again with a friend. This films was well adapted and contains enough of the human element to it, so that even if you're not a Sci-Fi fan you will undoubtedly enjoy it.

The CG and cinematography is great and the acting is on par with most Cruise movies. The plot was what shocked me the most, or more specifically, the efficient use of time. There is no real filler and each scene is important in it's own way. The humor is also executed and timed extremely well and helps balance the tone and keeps the plot from taking itself too seriously.

TL;DR: Awesome sci-fi film with great CG, acting, and plot execution. Go see this in theaters; it deserves every penny it grosses and then some.

This is basically a Sci Fi Groundhog's Day. The latest X-Men movie also deals with time travel, and the last Star Trek movie had Spock traveling in time to talk to himself at an older age. This film also commits another sin by featuring creatures that are supposedly far more advanced and intelligent than we are but they are gross and cannot speak, they are just killing machines. Like flying octopuses. It also has the dreaded moving/shaky camera in many parts. STILL, I have to give the movie a pass because it does feature humor, has good special effects, and Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt are excellent as usual. The movie is never boring. Expand

At one point, I was debating on giving it a 9. After many disappointing films this year, I would say this is easily the second best film of the year behind Captain America: Winter Soldier. The only reason this film doesn't get a perfect 10 is because some of the acting from the soldiers were poor, and the beginning and ending made no sense to me. Other than that, everything is top-notch! I loved how the movie was directed and written. I had to keep on guessing on when Tom Cruise's character was experiencing a scene for the first or the 100th time. Also, there was good humor in the film that had great timing and placed well in the story. I also really liked the design of the alien race. Those are some scary cool looking creatures that I would never want to meet. I would say that this film was on par with Minority Report, if you want to compare it with other Tom Cruise action films.

*BEGIN SPOILERS* Just because I want to mention the things that make no sense. The beginning. I don't clearly understand the general's motivations on sending Tom Cruise to the front lines of the war. Tom Cruise is pretty much the media spoke's person for the military, in which they're promoting their new infantry battle suits. At the beginning, you see Cruise's character getting interviewed and leading ads to say that anyone could wear one and pretty much kill tons of alien bad guys. Ok, so the general wants to send every abled body at the alien race, and he knows there's going to be a ton of casualties, which he will most likely be blamed for... so his plan is to order Tom Cruise to lead the charge, who has no combat experience. By doing this, Cruise will be blamed for the battle? That's doesn't make sense. If the general wants to make Cruise the bad guy, don't make him a martyr. He's already the poster child for the military. If he convinces millions to volunteer and fight the alien race through the media, then he's already going to be the first that's scrutinized... it is he who's saying the human race is unbeatable with his infantry suits. Next, if Cruise is so famous, how come no one recognizes him at the military base where they're prepping for the battle? The general ships him off to this base with his identity removed and a new rank of private. So naturally when Cruise explains to everyone there's been a mistake on who he is, no one believes him? Everyone and their mom's should recognize him... has the whole military been living under a rock? Do they not have TV or internet at military bases in the future? Anyways, once this confusing beginning is used to explain how Tom Cruise gets into this bad situation, the meat of the movie begins. From here on out, everything is fantastic! Cruise gets killed during the battle, but not before soaking in some alien blood that lets him reset to the day before the battle in which he dies. I was ready to give this film a 9 until the last 10 minutes happened. The film makers refused to let Cruise die at the end when finally defeating the main creature that's controlling the whole alien race. Basically, Cruise loses his ability to reset at one point, so at that point his choices become more crucial when it comes to surviving. This was great, because we needed to increase the stakes for our hero. Otherwise, the audience wouldn't care if he dies again. At the end, he blows up the main alien, but dies in the process. But as he's dieing, he soaks in some more alien blood to reset the day again... OK... so he wakes up prior to the battle ever happening (which is before he blows up the main alien) and everyone is celebrating that they killed the main creature which controls all the aliens. Uhhh... this makes absolutely no sense. If he reset to before he blew up the main alien, shouldn't he have to do it again? I guess they couldn't make this movie 3 hours long. Anyways, they shoehorn a happy ending in so Cruise lives rather than being an actual martyr... so he gets the girl at the end, which is suppose to be cute, because it was like they never met, based on the time he reset to one last time. Thank you Hollywood! *END SPOILERS*

Note: Did anyone else get annoyed by watching Emily Blunt do a seductive upward-dog yoga pose 4 times? It's like they wanted to take the most awkward shot in the whole film, and torture the audience with it over and over again.

It would be easy for a movie that focuses so much on repetition to tire quickly, but with EoT it only stays interesting and paces well and keeps your interest. Many props to the team tasked with the special effects as they're some of the best I've seen in recent years. The movie is about repetition but is not repetitive. It has great moments of using that repetition for comedy and also for suspense. What a great line this film walked to achieve this effect!

I found myself trying to figure out what I would do or say in those same situations and also worrying about what the characters were going to do once they were presented with the same information the audience had. This to me proves that this film never gets boring or predictable which might also mean that this is a very entertaining film and one to recommend to friends.

Acting:
I will start out by saying that I saw this movie yesterday in IMAX 3D and I absolutely loved it. I will begin by saying that I love Tom Cruise as an action actor and that he is def in my Top 5 actors of all time. Now to the review.

Acting:
I will begin by saying that the acting was top notch of course we have Tom Cruise who is Awesome and also Emily Blunt who was Fantastic. I thought the standout was Bill Paxton who was hilarious in the movie and also Brendan Gleeson who was also great with the few parts he had so acting was Superb.

Story:
The story I thought was very well put together about the alien Invasion and by the end of the movie while there was still one question it was pieced together nicely.

Action Scenes:
The action in this movie was Insane it was honestly non-stop from start to finish which I love for a movie like this take all the examples you have seen which combine Starship Troopers and the first scene in Saving Private Ryan and combine them and that is what you get an all out brawl of badass action scenes to rival these movies in particular which are Battle:LA and Battleship which I didn't watch because I heard it sucked but regardless if you love action movies this is def for you.

Verdict:
I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves comedy and action movies galore. I would say watch it in IMAX but if you can't just watch it in 2D this is the summer blockbuster to start the summer and possibly beat out all the rest and in my opinion is Tom Cruise's best film since my personnel favorite "Collateral"!!!!! A Must See.

Down-points on either the action sequences weren't stretched enough or the direction lacked clarity for these. In any case the focus is the constant leaping of time lines.

An excellent recent LaTimes interview with Doug describes his script and studio issues insightfully. Apparently he had to write a new third act and I think he's done brilliantly. Doug knows just the right balls to keep in the air and which to drop because we have been there, done that so many times before.

I liked Oblivion also, despite its useless title and this is more of the same in many respects, sci-fi film reimagined to do things impossible to do in sci-fi video games.

The aliens are winning the warEdge of Tomorrow is directed by Doug Liman and stars Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt and Bill Paxton. The film revolves around the earth being invaded by deadly aliens and the human race being on the edge of extinction. The aliens are winning the war and we decide to make one last push on the beaches of France in a deadly battle that we lose and everything is lost. One of the things that the film tries to do is defy genre convention. It tries so hard avoiding the obvious cliché that comes with a script like this and it does it so well up until the last act, which is arguably the least satisfying conclusion to a film that I have seen in a long time.

I wasn't originally going to be seeing this film in theatres but after hearing the praise it got from critics I started debating on whether to see this or X-Men but after receiving a free movie ticket I made the obvious choice of seeing Edge of Tomorrow. I mean, you can't turn down a free movie ticket! To make a long story short, I should have gone with X-Men.

On the eve of the landing, Pvt. Bill Cage (Cruise) is sent to the front line and is killed within the first five minutes of battle. This first act is so well made and treated with such respect that the rest of the film just seems underwhelming compared to the thrilling ride of the first half. Before his death, Cage was infected with an alien gene that gave him the ability to relive the same day over and over again giving the movie a lot to work with as it has so much going for it. Unfortunately it could have been so much better. The best part is without a doubt some of the clever plotting that makes the time loop aspect of the film never seem predictable or boring. There was probably not a single moment during the first half that made me want to close my eyes and fall asleep. The second half however is a cheesy, badly paced action cliché, which is a shame.

The acting was terrific, with Tom Cruise doing one of the most demanding roles of his career. Cruise's character was very complex and well thought out and I praise the writers for that. I love the fact that Tom Cruise commits himself to the action so much cause he really wants the audience to have a good time. Emily Blunt was so great in this film and I almost think that she should have been the star of the show with all her terrific action scenes. All of the actors did a really good job with their roles but what's sad is that there is almost no character development and Edge of Tomorrow suffers from that. Although the acting is great I didn't give a dime about any of the supporting characters making the film seem a little bland. Thankfully the first half mostly revolves around Cage so it doesn't hurt the overall experience to much. The cinematography was a hit and miss in this film. Sometimes the picture is just beautiful to look at with cool wide shots that hold the mediocre special effects whilst at other times the film feels like something a four year old with a camcorder could do better. It's annoying and distracts from the overall experience. I thought the soundtrack was all right and suited the film for what it is, a mediocre popcorn flick, filled with action clichés but redeems itself with an interesting main character, a plot that is all right for the most part and some cool battle scenes. If that is something you are looking for than go ahead, Edge of Tomorrow is your thing! However, if you want to see a film with a good consistent story, beautiful images throughout, good solid character development that sinks you right in and a satisfying end conclusion, you should rather go with X-Men: Days of Future Past.
