Painful to watch after an hour, I stayed because of a friend. The Director does not have control of his material, throwing up stuff on the wall to see what sticks. The Director does not have control of his material, throwing up stuff on the wall to see what sticks. Because he is not sure, the movie is easily 45 minutes to one hour longer than it needs to be to make its points. The Director knows how create cheap jokes that could be confused for wittiness or boldness, but then one realizes that they only were thrown in and do not really help carry the story. In the end the plot seems both pointless and unsatisfying. Expand

To innovate the everlasting theme of impossible love, is it enough to amalgamate it with a direction inspired by anime and with a Hitchcockian police plot ("Vertigo")? I have the impression that, if I'll remember the film, it will be for the considerable efforts of aesthetic originality and not for the rather latent emotions (femme fatale/dark lady and final scene included): the former do not reinforce the latter, rather they weaken them, perhaps because the complexity of the subject is discovering impossible to manage or even just to describe (drama, thriller, neo-noir, romance, melo, crime, mystery, etc.). The script void between the first and second parts and a disarming verbosity remain unjustified.
