Seconldy the movie is just not funny it just randomly stumbles over sensitive issues and terrible sterotypes. I knew she wasn't going to let the 'weave' comment go. Isn't the weave thing just tired now? Then the white girl saying she wants her black boyfriend's big black manhood? Seriously? Two thumbs down. A younger audience might look past the prejudice, but the movie is still dull and incredibly slow. Expand

The direction -- what the camera chooses to see -- is so static and uninventive that you'd think it was shot by a high school student working on a shoestring budget.

The New York Times of course gave it a rave review, which tells you how far the newspaper is willing to go in order to suck up to political correctness and seem hip. As for users, the reviewers are either too young or too stupid to understand what constitutes good satire. Check out the film "Putney Swope" for comparison.

I love how the film focuses on issues of not only race but sexual orientation, and general stereotyping as well. Throughout the movie, a lot of great topics were touched, but I feel that the delivery was very poor and the story-line was a little confusing. At the end of watching the movie, I’m sad to say that, I questioned what the ultimate message was. Yes, the movie did touch on many issues on race but I wish that they would have focused more on why these issues exist and how we can solve the problem. I appreciate the humor throughout the movie but I feel that this movie seemed to be making fun of black issues rather than coming from a more serious approach. At the end of the movie, even as a black woman, I felt racism wasn't a serious reality for most and instead it’s something “funny”. Many may disagree that the movie should have gone deeper and focused more on the struggles of racism, from a more serious approach, so that viewers could leave the theaters more willing for a change. It’s up to you to watch the film and see if you agree with this statement or not. Expand

I’m a minority and this movie is awful and offensive. Narcissistic privileged girl who gets a pass as a character bc her skin is darker than the usual overly, self important pretentious c**t.

I like the idea, and fresh perspective, and maybe sometimes things have to be offensive to get attention, but drawing racial lines is too easy. For example, instead of saying ‘dear white people’ which instantly calls out a battle invitation, how about ‘love, black people’ This will get your messages put in a more positive tone, and being directed towards everyone outside of your own group including other minorities and just plain ignorant people, whole saying this is my perspective instead of saying you and this specific group and it’s perspective is the problem. Because by doing this you are than just being just as racist against white people, by overgeneralizing

It's just distasteful... There's not much else you can say. The acting is okay. Writing is okay in terms of construct but not of content. Wouldn't watch it unless you're a SJW wanting some brownie points for yourself. It's just silly.

They even make fun of the educated Black people who do not act "Back" enough. Expand

Racist movie, racist director. Hate-filled propaganda towards white people.
Dull and devoid of humor.
Instead of bringing people together, it keeps opening wounds.

Those claiming to fight racism in America usually are some of the most closeted racists of all. Seriously the director tweeting "F**K white people" after Trump won kinda says it all. Expand

Is it about the student politics or racism?

Actually, I don't understand this film, I mean the story, what it intended to tell us. Maybe it's for Americans only. I thought it could be some underrated cool comedy, but what I just saw was definitely not expected. I kind of felt it was a student politics and if it stayed like that way I would have had no problem. But they said it is a comedy and I did not get any, in between it became a racism thing. I never understood this American racism, why they're making it so complicated. Especially the condition of the US is not looking good right now and this film pours a more oil to it. I'm neither white nor black or an American, and sorry I did not find it a good film. Even more, I don't get, how a television series is getting ready to follow-up it. So no offense for those who liked it, seems I'm in a wrong place. I just rated and reviewed what I felt it deserves, other than that I'm not against the film. I'm out of here!

Just more racist garbage against white people. I'll be waiting for "Dear black people" that's the movie that needs to be made. The director is some lowlife racist that couldn't make a good film to save his worthless life.
