SoEveryone knows the target audience for this film. And there are many moments where it feels like you're watching The Secret Life of Pets, but with the clear addition of DC's most famous superheroes to get more of a boost at the box office. So get an idea of what you're going to see if you decide to watch it. DC League of Super-Pets is a sort of funny but weak effort that relies on the voices that bring these characters to life and evidently the more famous characters it features. Let's face it, this film wouldn't get the same attention if it weren't for the fact that Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and other superheroes make an appearance. Constant appearances.
The animals are the main attraction, of course, but that helping dose is all this movie relies on to grab the audience, kids and adults alike. What works best is within the established formula of the superhero genre, beyond that there is an imbalance between the humor that has to do with the pets and the references that appear along the way. The mix is clearly absurd and the film doesn't come off very well in terms of balance, substance and consistency, but like many other recent animated films, the studios know that this won't be a problem for the kids. And frankly I get it. No kid is going to be looking for the things that a 30-year-old me is, and it's not like they have to.

I took my nephews to go watch this and they fell asleep. This movie is boring and they try way too hard to make every second and every line funny.

Enjoyable, but if you draw a line of what feels like a streaming movie vs theater release, you'd probably assume this was made for HBOMax.

Some worthwhile bits and sight gags — paired with some clever riffing on DC lore — is what'll ultimately make this ride worth the price of admission for you (and, presumably, the kids). I still feel as though Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart probably should have switched roles. Ace's stoic presence is not something I would normally associate with the stylings of Kevin Hart. You can say the same thing about Krypto's more happy-go-lucky demeanor in relation to that of the archetypical Dwayne Johnson role as well. Digression aside, this was still not an entire wash of an experience for me. Just a bit of a "mid" one. Expand

Obviously I'm not the core audience for this kids movie but the writing was lacklustre and some of the changes to the justice League were very odd (Latino female lantern? Uber buff armed wonder woman? Camp sounding flash?). As a fun animated film it was ok at best with all the usual tropes sewn into the longer-than-needed runtime. Voice cast did ok but I wondered if a lesser known cast of pro voice actors could've done it better here? Groans aside I had fun watching and it looked and sounded great in 4k HDR 5.1 surround.

There was good animation. The narrative was typical. Interesting was the villainous guinea pig. There have been a lot of superhero movies produced that are only passable in comparison to the others. I think children will enjoy it, but I'm not sure about adults. Expand

Unfortunately, the comedy did not land for me say for a few Batman lines but others in my theatre did laugh so you may enjoy the comedy more than I did. I would like to warn parents that a side character does have some censored swears which did catch me off guard on my first viewing. I also loved the nod to the multiverse with a phone call that implied this movie was not in the mainline universes so you can look at it as though it is canon in one multiverse if you love it. I personally found the villain side characters fun despite my neutral feeling for the heroic pets besides Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart’s roles of course. I was pleasantly surprised by Dwayne Johnson’s character Krypto, as there were moments where I forgot he was Mr. Johnson which immersed me in the movie much more and I thought his arc was pretty sweet despite being pretty generic. Despite the positives of this movie, it wasn’t really anything special. I was pretty disappointed with how easily the justice league was dispatched with by the movies main villain but I did find their initial fight scene/introduction enjoyable. I also did not like how dumb Lois Lane was in the climax which soured my enjoyment of the character. Besides one, there wasn’t any characters I actually hated. The swearing weirdly sexual turtle makes me want to feed turtles plastic straws. Nothing it said was funny to me and it made me not like turtles. I really wished the sidecharacter super pets got some more development but I’m fine with their role in the story. If you like DC, pets, and/or regular family animated movies, you’ll probably have a fun time. If you are skeptical of the movies quality, I would encourage you to give it a chance as it was definitely more fun than anticipated. 6/10, better than I was expecting but not great. Expand
