The movie is fun, but doesn't shy away from some of the inner turmoil that goes into being a stepfather. In spite of that, the writing, performances, and occasional laugh help boost Daddy's Home up to an above-average movie. Expand

The problem I had with this film is it's a mediocre comedy with bland performances, but it's a good comedy. Will Ferrell plays Brad Taggart a radio executive, who has a big heart and wants to be the best step-father ever to his wife's (Linda Cardellini) two children (Scarlett Estevez and Owen Vaccaro). When her bad boy ex-husband Dusty (Mark Wahlberg) comes back to town, Brad feels insecure about him being there, Dusty wants to get back together with Sarah, so him and Brad have a competition on who wins the family. Dusty demonstrates his flair for athletics, home repair and bad boy charisma. So Brad finds himself in a tough situation to battle one-up his rival and win his family. Despite wasting talented comedy stars Will Ferrell and Mark Whalberg, they make bland performances, but they make this movie rock, still an enjoyable film despite it's a mediocre PG-13 comedy. 3 out 5 stars Expand

Seeking to recapture the terrific chemistry that Messrs. Ferrell and Wahlberg had in the film "The Other Guys", Mr. Ferrell plays a sweet and mild mannered husband and step-dad married to Mr. Wahlberg’s ex-wife. The film examines the inevitable conflict that exists between the divorced biological father who wants to retain some identity with his kids in spite of the step-dad now occupying the family residence. Obviously a subject more serious than comedic, the film tries to interject humor and to a certain extent succeeds. It is a light and easy film to watch with no great surprises enriched by the pleasant demeanor and screen presence of Mr. Ferrell. I give the film a 6 with the warning that it needn’t be on your must see list of films for 2015. Expand

Ferrell plays the step father who wants to be accepted by his wife’s 2 kids. Things are going well until their birth father (Wahlberg) shows up. The potential for comic competition is there, but the setups aren’t clever and the jokes fall flat. The only time this movie is worth watching is when Wahlberg has his shirt off. This film has some ghastly pandering product placement, esp. a car commercial. Expand

Four genuine laughs, a dozen or so chuckles and many pained smiles.

This is not a good movie. It's an okay distraction but it's boring in long stretches and Ferrell succeeds in being so unlikable and needy throughout that you just want Wahlberg to win and the credits to roll. The only bits of genuine hilarity are offered up by the kids and the character Griff.

See this one only if you are trapped on a plane and have run out of sleeping pills.

Leave your brain at the door for this chuckle out loud silly comedy the delivers most of what you would expect from Gary Sanchez Productions. Gotta say I laughed at least 5 or so times out loud at the ridiculous gags!

I had heard that this film has aimed for more of a family audience, but I really didn't get that vibe. This is not a kids movie at all. Anyone who has seen The Other Guys knows that Mark Wahlberg and Ferrell have chemistry and it is one of the most important parts of this film and that was what kept it on an enjoyable level because I was not laughing out loud at all the jokes. The cast is pretty solid. I really liked the addition of Hannibal Burress, he was one of the funniest characters in the film although he really didn't need to be there. There is so much product placement in Daddy's Home that it almost feels like they are parodying it. There is a pretty good amount of heart in this movie and although the story is not exactly the most believable its still a warming end. Expand

Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg have good comedic chemistry, if you need real proof look no further than The Other Guys, this isn’t quite as funny. If you’re hoping for something like The Other Guys, these two films share a few similaritiesWill Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg have good comedic chemistry, if you need real proof look no further than The Other Guys, this isn’t quite as funny. If you’re hoping for something like The Other Guys, these two films share a few similarities but are ultimately very different films. Daddy’s Home has its stretches of good humor, but ultimately drags on, and offers nothing really new to the comedy genre. It should be clarified that the film has a good amount of humor, so if that’s the main concern Daddy’s Home should deliver.
The comedic premise of this film is exactly the same as The Other Guys, in that Will Ferrell plays a bland man while Mark Wahlberg brings some chaos into his life. The film is fairly funny and proves that there’s still water in that well, for the moment. The film has a fun tone, that’s infectious, even the most serious people could find themselves smiling during stretches of the film. However, these stretches are too inconsistent.
The film is only an hour and a half but feels more like a two-hour film. While many of the film’s gags work, many other gags feel like long stretches of awkwardness, that just drag on. To further that, while the film is funny, it’s never hilarious, or belly-aching funny. The film ultimately leaves a feeling of emptiness, because it tries to be funny, but ultimately fails for stretches, and drags on.
Maybe the worst thing the film does is what it doesn’t do, which is offer any original concepts to the comedy genre. When you get so many talented people working together and you get jokes that are rehashes from previous films they did or rip-offs of Bridesmaids jokes, it’s disappointing. The film is dumb, in the sense of logic within the story, but also in terms of effort, as a film that only rehashes old jokes is just lazy. It seems unfortunate that the filmmakers couldn’t make a denser story to fill the framework of the film.
In the end, if you’re looking for a comedy that has a good amount of laughs in it, that you can watch with the family, Daddy’s Home will get the job done. However, if you’re searching for the next great comedy, that offers new ideas to the somewhat cliched comedy genre, this isn’t it. In the end, Daddy’s Home is somewhat funny, features good chemistry from it’s two leads, and has some decent character development, but fails on the originality test.

Reminds me, not in plot, but in the humor level of Vacation – also released this year. Strangely enough, I always get corraled into seeing these horrible movies knowing full well in advance that they are truly a waste of time.

Falling asleep in a movie theater is really quite rare for me. I love movies – analyzing them, watching them, loving them. But when I should be fully awake and alert, Daddy's Home quite literally made me want to not be there, hence the nap. Cringe-worthy humor piled with a plot too gimmicky for (almost) anyone to enjoy. The exception being boys with the maturity level of an 8-year old.

Perhaps it is because I have no step-parents, but this idea of daddy wars does not appeal to me in the slightest. Every kid wants to feel love and adored, but not in the way that Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg can offer. Their dynamic was possibly the only interesting aspect of the movie.

"Ferrell: Good Daddy - Wahlberg: Bad Daddy" Who won the battle of this indecisive comedy?

The first mistake of this film is seen with the naked eye, Why Daddy's Home? ¡Mediocre!. It would have been much better with "Daddy's War" adapting more to the plot of the film between a dad exemplary and a daddy not exemplary.

The participation of Ferrell in this shaky project (years ago, in something similar, interpreted by Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon) is without a doubt unstable. This man is in charge of doing good and deep comedies and Mark on the other hand, it is responsible to make comedies empty but the blockbuster (Ted - Ted 2). What comes out of this mixture? Visually, Ferrell is influenced by the attitude of its imposing and rockstar co - star.

Perhaps, the paternity's issue is adopted quite well the two stars, Dusty wanting to have more to his wife that his own children, tries it with bribes and telling fantastic stories and Brad being a good stepfather trying to overcome his enemy.

Linda Cardellini joins to Ferrell with her performance totally abstract, Interpreting a hopeful mother in pregnancy and executing the function of balance, she has to be balanced in part and part.

The "Other Guys" duo are reattached to give us something that can be called "Comedy". At the present time, the subject of divorce is easy in fury, and "Daddy's Home" takes advantage of these situations.

Undoubtedly, the part more exciting in a film in which two men fight for their children is the 'fight'. It's very striking is the 'VS' in this movie. War events are fun and hilarious and often it is the best of all the run - time. Really aimed a few aspects, little we can squint. it is tortuous but at the same time enjoyable and even a bit heartwarming. So the film is fun until the moment that it becomes irritating. 'DH' promised much and it looked very interesting leading our excitement to the top of the thermometer, after 96 minutes, out of the film room feels like a bucket of water cold, all our excitement disappears and makes us think: "Whoa!! It was good, but in all aspects could be explored much more"

Will Farrell's innocent persona went over well in "Elf" but it's gotten old. Will portrays it again in this movie and makes it a "here we go again" movie. The story is interesting and could have been taken to a higher level.

Daddy's home is a mix of humour and boredom. There are scenes which are uplifting and quite hilarious. Then there are scenes which drag on for no reason. I would suggest it's a film you watch with your friends rather than parents.
