What on earth were Sigourney Weaver and Hugh Jackman doing wasting their time in this drivel? What could have been an entertaining story was ruined by abysmal acting and an unbelievably bad script.

What a mess of a movie, never holding it together at all. The acting was horrible and you could tell even some of the main actors such as Hugh Jackman were thinking what was I doing when I agreed to be in this movie! The bad guys and robbers were idiotic and uninteresting and way overdone, and to add to insult looked like they come straight out of a comic book with tats and funny hairdo's. They acted like they had IQ's under 50, and made the movie even worse than it already was. Overall the movie was a mess and I would never recommend this to anyone! Expand

This years Transcendence, CHAPPiE is a hugely disappointed film and a major step down from the once great Neill Blomkamp. No character development, horrific acting, and an absolutely ridiculous third act makes CHAPPiE nearly cringeworthy.

I mean my english is not the best too, but i dont act in movies in which i have to talk english. They talk english like 5 year olds and the characters are very poorly written. They could be taken from a 90's trash movie. The super freaky looking bad guys with all their weird haircuts and clothes, the indian IT-Specialist and other **** Sigourney Weavers acting is ok, but you dont see the professionals much in this movie. This is the first movie after a long time i stopped to watch after about 30 minutes. Bad acting, poor characters, poor english with a way too heavy accent. The special effects are good, i loved the introduction of the robots as police force.

I cant recommend to watch this movie.

Literally the only thing this film has going for it is a killer musical score and great special effects.
But even that can't save it from mediocrity.
This feels like a student film trapped in a AAA-movie's body, and the blame rests with Blomkamp.

Despite having semi-good effects, realistic robot movements, this movie is an insult to the genre, everyone are plainly stupid and much of decisions don't make sense, you can not expect better from a hiphop/sci-fi hybrid.

Disastrous. Juvenile. Insulting.

Three words that perfectly describe the latest offering from Neill Blomkamp, three words that would not have been expected to describe a film directed by this man.

Blomkamp is best known for the absolutely brilliant "District 9," a reflection on apartheid, but also responsible for the almost equally fascinating "Elysium," which was a sci-fi look at the ongoing 1% debate.

So, expectations for his third feature, "Chappie," were understandably considerably high.

However, the expectations are sadly unfounded as this film does not even remotely live up to expectation. In fact, it doesn't live up to anything. At all.

In short, "Chappie" is the story of a "broken" robot from a fleet of robot police now protecting Johannesburg, which gets rebooted by fully self-sufficient artificial intelligence installed by the developer of the police robots, Deon Wilson (Dev Patel, "Slumdog Millionaire"). Having been "kidnapped" by a ridiculous gang of wannabe "gangstas," played absolutely horrifically by members of South African rap group Die Antwoord (Ninja, Yo-Landi Visser), with absolutely no acting ability whatsoever, Chappie, which needs to learn from scratch like a baby, is "raised" by these bumbling idiots to help them pull off a huge heist.

After screwing up a drug deal for Hippo, one of the few worthwhile characters in the film played with brilliant, anarchic, shirtless hotness by Brandon Auret, Ninja and Yolandi owe him $20 million. And they have a week to get it to him.

And thus, this film then wants you to believe, without actually showing you how it is actually accomplished, that this robot named Chappie, in the hands of idiotic, failed gangsters and with limited input from the wasted Dev Patel, could go from zero and baby-like to an almost full-fledged, heist-worthy "adult"…in about a week. Because "gangstas" would have time for this.

All the while, teaching him to "act gangsta," making the film a complete joke while practically verging on racist gansgta clichés…diving head first into a pool of utter ridiculousness.

With its amateur soundtrack, its "gangsta" stupidity, its horrific acting, complete lack of logical narrative and deflection of all its shortcomings through the use of explosions, this film truly caters to the absolute lowest common denominator.

In fact, it expects its audience to be so truly uneducated, when Hippo speaks, the film features English subtitles. Um, Hippo speaks English.

This film was so dumb, and assumed its audience would be so uneducated, they put English subtitles under a guy speaking English. The film, in all its stupidity, actually manages to directly insult the intelligence of its audience.

So, where do big names Hugh Jackman and Sigourney Weaver fit into this? Jackman plays Vincent Moore, a spoiled brat with a horrific haircut who designed a similar type of police robot which was deemed far too big and expensive to be used, so he devises a plan to knock out Wilson's robots so his will be implemented. Weaver merely plays Wilson and Moore's boss at the company which created these droids.

Why they wanted to be involved in this film is beyond me.

So, listen to me when I say, avoid this film at all costs. Unlike the strong, important political messages of his first two films, on his third outing, Blomkamp has achieved absolutely nothing but creating a film that wants to show an audience just what an epic failure looks like.

Summary:
Cliche plot strung along by nonsensical and unsympathetic characters, poor sound effects, thoroughly lazy acting and prop design. Primary purpose appears to have been done to fulfill contractual obligations for Sony product placement instead of movie watcher.

This incredibly awful offering from the talented director of "District 9" misses the mark in virtually every way conceivable. The filmmaker serves up an overlong, implausible tale full of plot holes, continuity goofs, overacting, cloying dialogue and a derivative narrative that pieces together elements of "Short Circuit," "Robocop," "Avatar" and "Transcendence." Its constant switches in tone, from dramatic to campy to action-oriented, grows ever more annoying with each passing minute, making you beg for the end to come. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I can't believe how dumb everyone is giving this movie above a 5... This movie is anything but original and has no sense of reality. So the movie rips off Short Circuit especially at the end of the movie. The plot is basically the same as district 9, but instead of human becomes alien with alien companion, human becomes robot with robot companion.

I found the opening scene to be the only good part of the movie, I'd rather watch a mindless robot action movie than this crap. If you've scene short circuit 1 and 2 and district 9, you know this movie already. So the engineer that created Chappie checked out the god key which is needed to do software updates on his scouts, takes it out of the secure building with his broken scout and no one notices anything with cameras every where... Calls him several days later about the key "Hey you checked the god key out several days ago." and his response is "I know I took it home with me to do some work." WHAT THE **** His security clearance would be revoked immediately, he'd be tracked down and arrested so fast. No one realizes there is a rogue police robot (Chappie) running around stealing cars until he does a heist stealing money from a bank truck. Oh and the character Mommy dies and at the end shows her conscience is saved to a flash drive like anyone cares that she died. OMG Don't tell me they are making a sequel....

This movie is based around low-life gangsters and their retarded ways of talking, looking cool, and being badass. This movie is garbage.

To sum it all up go see the first action scene then get your money back. That is the only part worth watching. Short Circuit 1 and 2 and District 9 = This Crappie movie. Woops I meant Chappie. Wait no I had it right, it's Crappie. This movie gets a 1 for only one good action scene

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Complete trash. Poorly cast. Characters saying and doing things that don't make any sense. Dialog is horrible. The goonie accents almost unbearable. Here's one for you. The guy who invented the robots to make robot company very successful goes to CEO claiming he invented a "sentient" A.I. (in his studio apartment filled with old Ataris and extension cords) that could be smarter than a human. Asks CEO if he can test it on some soon-to-be-crushed robot parts. CEO says "No way! Are you crazy??" Really??? That's what a CEO would say to the inventor of their primary asset?
Then we get force fed this whole 'hate crime against robots' thing. Not that the scene made any sense. Guy drives robot to some undisclosed location for unknown reasons and leaves it there. Random thugs show up and decide to harass and beat the robot. Again, why? Then we're forced to watch this and have real sympathy. Oh I get it, its a metaphor for human hate crimes. Ahhhhh. I see it now. Cleverly veiled by your heavy handed jamming it down my throat technique. Almost missed it there.

Absurdity to the nth degree. Walked out.

The WORST Movie I Have EVER seen in my LIFE (And Believe me I've seen a lot)..

EVERYTHING IS WRONG in this movie, from the story (there's no plot),to the locations, the lack of any sense of logic, to the Casting OMG this is the worst ,it's full of unknown zero talented unworthy of being called "Actors", and with characters Names like "Ninja" ,"Yo-Landi","Amerika","Pitbull"... (btw "Ninja" ,"Yo-Landi" are also their Real names).

The Casting was extremely horrific, I've never seen acting so bad ,even barney the dinosaur had better acting skills, you never connect to any of the characters, no actor fits the role and with the extremely poorly written story and dialog they can't offer much.
You shouldn't expect much from the Director/writer who prevously created Elysium "which is very bad but at least had great potentials if written the right way and is Marginly better than this one" .

You might be tricked into watching this movie because it's a Hugh Jackman Movie (like I did), but this movie is Jackman's worst performance, worst look, worst accent and worst character.

Robots (droids) have always been cool, but Not in this movie, here they are the most stupid most boring, most annoying thing , as I watched a robot act like a child for the whole movie , and it believed simple lies while at the same time they're trying to convince us it has true A.I superior to Humans's .

Finally, I want to say that I'm actually a big fan of Hugh Jackman and consider him one of the best actors of current time and I'm surprised and saddened he accepted this movie.
