This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Before you watch this movie: if you HATE SJW bs shoved down your throat, then don't watch it. With that out of the way, here i my review. Brie Larson, is awesome, I really liked her performance and I did not doubt her acting for a moment.

Nick Fury, is simply there to make some jokes, be slammed around by more powerful heroes and simply be useless for the entire movie. How dare you waste Nick Fury like that?

The amount of feministic comment in this movie is absurd, from making well sure you know that Cap Marvel is this Tomboy, rough, rebellious, grungy "chick" to a constant theme of how opressed she really is and how she must realise her true strength to break free of opression. Marvel, STOP.

Why does she deserve to be the most powerful hero in all of Marvel? Honestly, what does she do that is so amazing. She "discovers" herself. Good for you! I can find self help bs myself thank you, I came to watch a superhero movie.

The worst is thinking about the movie logically, don't. You will most probably physically hurt your brain.

In conclusion, as we all probably know Cap Marvel aka women power is going to defeat Thanos in the most disappointing end to a series one could imagine. Why does the SJW's always bloody take over? Please, let us just have our joy without infecting everything and try to control our thoughts and beliefs with this incompetent toxicity.

I enjoyed this film, and found it entertaining. CGI was good. Brie looks great and she acted professionally, but perhaps she needed a bit more charismatic dialogue. Samuel L Jackson, always great.

What can I say about this movie that was meant to hype me up for the MCU's final chapter leading up to Avengers Endgame.....quite simply a terrible, dull and boring movie.

I had ignored most of the red flags in commercialization and marketing that had already made me skeptical, and I had never heard of the character of Captain Marvel, so I went in with a clean slate. However, much to my dismay, I knew as much about Captain Marvel when I entered the theater as I did leaving the theater. The protagonist Carol Danvers/Vers herself is an incredibly boring, emotionless mary sue character that would continue to catch second breaths for 2 hours and 5 minutes with forced and ridiculous plot twists that are nothing more than hypocritical allegories for illegal alien immigrants attempting to make their way to a safer home and the big bad white government wont let that happen, forced feminist messages and agenda both in the movie and in advertising with stereotypical men with exaggerative dialogue that would make even a veteran wince in embarassment, and various plot holes and inconsistencies that occur throughout the movie that create unnecessary questions about characters already established in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I thoroughly enjoy seeing badass woman in media like KOS-MOS, Ellen Ripley, Samus Aran and even Black Widow. But Carol Danvers/Vers is a very monotonous, controversial character that would much rather subvert expectations with a straw man theme of "Getting back up" and a movie full of amazing CGI but a lack of subtlety in terms of engaging characters other than Talos. Because she is a symbol through her attitude and the fact that her actions spoke louder than words. Gal Gadot had no godlike superpowers, but her inspiring presence and principles transformed her into a feminine tour-de-force. And then comes Brie Larson.

"Captain Marvel" is, more or less, "Wonder Woman" for teenage ladies who feel they should be extra-appreciated simply because they happen to be born with two XX chromosomes. There are scenes of visual beauty, bravado, grandeur, but lacking action. The early scenes when Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) had flashes about her past, linger on for too long as if they are trying to push an idea without any real effort. The last scenes in which she soars through the sky are a delight for the pupil, but again they almost feel like an angry release.

With her feet grounded, Larson is funny and rebellious, at least when she is not annoying and condescending. Happily she is joined by an always natural, free-flowing MF'er by the name of Samuel L. Jackson playing my favorite version of Nick Fury. He is young, as is the world around him. The constant 90's references are great for laughs, if nothing else. I mean, come on, what is cooler than having an important moment in the plot slowed by the imminent loading line of a CRT monitor white PC--hey, where is the file that will reveal my past? Hold on, it's loading.

But while Larson might be a bit toxic, I was surprised by that unexpected twist around the film's middle which I will not spoil here and, for a brief moment, this film went deeper than any Marvel film did, as Carol was struggling with her identity. The way in which the characters in "Dark City" had their memories and identities twisted came into my mind at that point. As expected, though, the film moved on from that path pretty quickly.

This film could have been and should have been the big break for powerful women as it boasted many firsts for the ladies in a Marvel film--not only the first female lead but also the first female to compose the soundtrack. Starting from the music, the girl power anthem is strong here, if only it were women power.

While the movie has all the flash, polish and expert special effects you would expect, the writing is so full of plot holes I feel like I needed a ball of yarn and two knitting needles while I was watching it. Captain Marvel, sorry 'Carol',While the movie has all the flash, polish and expert special effects you would expect, the writing is so full of plot holes I feel like I needed a ball of yarn and two knitting needles while I was watching it. Captain Marvel, sorry 'Carol', herself is so OP in this movie that she breaks the entirety of the MCU. She could have stopped Thanos in about three seconds which is why she was absent for most of Endgame. She ruins the continuity of the entire Marvel Universe and makes every other hero in it utterly pointless. The movie itself has no character development outside of 'get stronger'. There is no emotional reaction to regaining her lost memories, no emotional reunion with her very best friend. No emotional fallout from learning her teammates that she trained with and trusted her life to were actually Evil Bad Guys who had deceived her for 6 whole years. There is no emotional growth of the character of Carol what so ever in the entire movie. She just 'gets gud' at being an all powerful god-like ex-human in the space of a few days. Seriously Marvel? You throw away a decade of deep and enthralling character development and world building just for one mediocre movie about a hero so OP she can't even exist alongside the MCU in general without mucking up every other aspect of the franchise?

And no, this is not about her being a 'her'. The character is weak because there is no Hero's Journey for her to go on. She makes no mistakes, learns absolutely nothing besides 'punch harder' and in general has no journey at all, let along one worthy of a hero who learns and grows through adversity and self reflection.

I did enjoy the cameo by Clark Gregg/Phil Coulson, and Samuel L. Jackson/Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as Talos/Keller provided a much needed shot of character in this characterless film.

This film was a 0 for me, giving it a 2 because the supporting cast carry the movie and nothing with Jackson and Mendelsohn in it should get a 0.

Captain Marvel has the makings of a great MCU movie. All of the expected elements are here. There's the humor, the action, the sentimentality, and the desire to provide non-stop entertainment. The problem? Its hero is kind of boring.

The story is decent, but at no point fleshes Carol Danvers out as anything more than a basic character archetype. It being the protagonist that tries way too hard to come off as tough and cool. We catch glimpses of earlier stages of her life that portray her as a girl that just wants to prove she can be as strong as the boys, but the snippets only last seconds so there's no real journey for her to go through in order achieve that goal. Danvers starts the movie off as a super powerful hero and ends it the same way. So there's no way for her to grow and endear herself to the audience.

Something is also a little off with Brie Larson's performance. She plays this character very, very woodenly. No real emotion seems to come out. Not even in the more energetic sequences. This stiffness is especially a problem every time they try to make Danvers funny. The jokes and one-liners fed to her simply fall flat on their faces. A shame because some of them could have been great had they not been delivered in such an awkward manner.

Larson shines brightly during the action sequences though. Making for a very believable butt kicker when blows start being traded. You can tell she put a lot of work in. Almost as much work as Marvel put into improving their visuals.

The MCU's CGI has been dodgy for a while now. Looking great in some movies and like total crap in others. Captain Marvel can most definitely be counted in the former camp. A good thing too as so much of it is made up of Guardians of the Galaxy style sci-fi scenery.

With its main hero falling short, it's up to the movie's supporting cast to carry the show. Luckily, Samuel Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn prove up to the task. Jackson is just as entertaining as ever and as much the star of the film as Larson herself. Fury stands beside Danvers every step of the way and he develops a few more layers as a result. Mendelsohn is straight up hilarious. I really want to see his character return at some point because he's a laugh riot. I was also caught off guard with how his arc turned out. It's a pretty big twist that changes the course of the movie. Lashana Lynch is good, but her role ends up being a bit of a disappointment as it solely revolves around being Carol's previously established friend from a time we only get brief flashbacks to. Jude Law isn't given much to do, but he's pretty great whenever he's onscreen.

Captain Marvel ultimately ranks among the mid to low-tier MCU flicks, and it's all because they never allowed Danvers to open up to the audience in the same way the other heroes have. It's still very well made movie with plenty of entertaining moments. It just falls short at what is arguably the biggest reason the MCU has been able to keep going for so long; turning previously established superheroes and their properties into something the masses can actually care about.

The formula is still in place but definitely the charm is already beginning to run out.

Captain Marvel doesn't manage to be the monumental film that it thinks it is, especially because it finally has a female lead character and yet despite the scale of the narrative, it never compensates the viewer like it should.

It's true that has more negative points than positive ones but nothing that affects its performance in a significant way.

Significant annotations:

Pros
- A powerful female character that will not be lost among the great male names like Thor, Captain America and Iron Man
- Marvel points to space which is the best place they can go if they want to keep their franchise alive.
-
Cons
- You cannot help feeling this story like a forced introduction to have the character ready for Endgame.
- What they did with the Skrulls has no name. At the same level of what they did with The Mandarin.
- Marvel wasted Ronan again.
- There's no real villain or conflict.

It's not a terrible movie, nor a great movie, it's just a harmless, played-it-safe movie even for a superhero movie.
I had fun watching it a the theater, but that's it.
The main problems with this movie are the poor directing, writing and character development, this felt more like a sequel rather than a Captain Marvel origin story, by that I mean that I learned almost nothing about the character. The directors couldn't sell me the idea that Captain Marvel is the strongest character in the MCU and the one who could beat Thanos as her powers and abilities as shown in this movie are a little generic, bland and boring. The villain is also boring and has no motivation, he's not intimidating or anything, it felt like watching Malekith from Thor 2 or Steppenwolf from Justice League.
As with any movie review I'm gonna highlight the good and bad:

The Good:
-It's a fun superhero movie overall. The scenes with Carol Danvers and Nick Fury are really good and I think the best of the movie.
-There's little to no "Hey look! We have a strong female character that will be an inspiration for all women in the world! We're so progressive!" moments (I don't know the word to sum up that, haha, sorry) as I thought there would be.

The Bad:
-The directing and writing.
-Lack of character development.
-The action scenes were lame. Because probably this directors don't know how to shoot a good action scene. All action scenes are shaky, with tons of cuts and you can barely see what's going on. If the action in a superhero movie is not good, you're doing something wrong.
-Some CGI looked bad, not Black Panther levels of bad but still bad and fake-looking. The Skrulls had a very silly terrible-looking mask.
-Some explanations that fans of the MCU might be trying to seek, like Nick Fury's eye, might be very disappointing.
-Some editing. Like the first 20 minutes of the movie are very confusing because of the bad editing choices.

Captain Marvel is a character that wasn't really needed for the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet. But still she was introduced. So the fans must assume her story to be something on the same level of the other new characters that were introducedCaptain Marvel is a character that wasn't really needed for the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet. But still she was introduced. So the fans must assume her story to be something on the same level of the other new characters that were introduced in Phase III, particularly just before Avengers: Endgame. There were Doctor Strange and Black Panther who had their own fun adventures just before Infinity War, which is really needed if the movie wants the audience to actually care about that character when heroes like Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America etc are also present on the same screen. But sadly, Captain Marvel wasn't able to live upto the hype.

I'm in no means saying that this is an absolutely horrible movie. I really liked it, but only as long as the movie was running. Once the movie was over I was like, "Wait, why was I so excited again?". I went to watch the movie as an absolute blank slate. I had heard of Brie Larson giving a controversial statement, but I'm not gonna judge an entire movie over one actress' behaviour. Rather I'd judge it because of the content that was in it. And that's what I'm gonna do.

This movie absolutely nails the 90s vibe. The characters look just as ugly as we used to look in our 90s pictures. The introduction of a young Nick Fury, the plot twist, the Stan Lee cameo, the CGI - I liked it all. But what I didn't like was, well, to put it in simpler words, literally everything else. The acting, music, costumes (when Monica was seeing the different colour combinations she saw all the awesome ones and rejected them, and finally chose the ugliest one), and even the revelation of how Nick Fury got an eyepatch were terrible.

In my opinion this was the worst MCU movie made in the third phase, not just because it lacked content, it didn't even have any important significance. This movie didn't even need to exist, since Captain Marvel just says in Endgame that she was out protecting the other universes. So the whole point of "introducing Captain Marvel" was pointless, as it could have been done just like how Black Widow and Hawkeye were done in The Avengers; give her a cameo in the previous movies and then bring her directly to Endgame.

Captain Marvel's defining moment as it looked like she was in trouble but remembered past successes was the best scene and actually quite cool. Was interesting to see fringe characters from Guardians of the Galaxy sprinkled in. Most Marvel movies are worthy of multiple viewings, though I don't think I'd see this a second time. Expand

My only nitpicks are that there are a couple of very poorly executed "funny" scenes and that the movie is a little too long (maby 20-25 mins too long)

I wouldnt recommend seeing this film to any one but as the same time i wouldnt discourage anyone, hence an average 5/10.

The story is also meh but I hate how they tarnished the origin of Nick Fury's eye. Unlike other MCU movies wherein the hero goes through heavy training or a defining moment of heroism Captain Marvel was already strong when the movie started and the reason for that is because she was caught in an explosion. The conclusion is, skip this film. Unfortunately, if you hate this movie then you hate women for some reason

Probably a lot of these dudes are the same idiots who enjoy a film like "John Wick."

Captain Marvel, of course, is pretty darn good. As action adventure flicks go, the story is better than most, and it provides enough character, action, and humor to even keep me interested throughout its 124 minute runtime.

If you don't know Captain Marvel's backstory, doesn't matter. I knew nothing about the character going in and if I missed anything as a result I still haven't noticed. OK, well, I'm still wondering about flerkins, but I guess I grasped the main point.

If you like costumed heroes you should definitely give Captain Marvel a look.

And for the guy who called this film a Disney "money grab," just what the heck do YOU think the film industry, or every industry, is all about? Thank you, Captain Obvious lol.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a big MCU fan I was cringing watching this, it sucked hard. It is the worst MCU movie. (and some people are complaining about Age of Ultron xD) I like the actors, but the story was poor written. She is totaly overpowered. It is boring to watch (like superman). The MCU movies manage to connect me emotionally but this movie had no dramatic moments or good characters. They had to put in Fury and Coulson to get some attention. I hate that the movie gets to many credits like 1. Avengers name 2. First chronological appeareance of the Tesseract 3. The **** explanation of Furys eye. The goofy green dudes looked so funny like I was watching old Star Trek. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Before you dislike this review, remember that I have some really strange opinions lol

Despite lots of people disliking this movie, I found this movie an entertaining film. Of course, it has some setbacks, but I feel that the movie had more good than bad. For example, the movie had a refreshingly good storyline for a MARVEL movie. The characters blended in to the story well, and felt like they all had a purpose.

However, something that I found unpleasant was the alien shape-shifters coming to invade earth. This plot element is a huge cliche that should not be used anymore, as it has become stale.

Another positive about the movie was the acting of the human characters. they seem like they are in a real universe and not in someone's voice cracking fever dream. *cough* blair witch *cough*

I rated mixed and not a positive because the movie has lots of lacking parts, like the action scenes. It seems that MARVEL is focusing more on comedy in some parts than actual action and suspense scenes. The mainstream viewers seem to love the humorous parts, but I saw it as a negative because it does not fit with the original idea of the film, and it made the movie drag on for much longer than it should have. I would not recommend seeing it in theatres, but maybe at home, as the movie is not worth 10 dollars plus popcorn and soda. Just my opinion.

Captain Marvel as a movie is trying too hard to sell viewer the fact that it's a movie about female superhero and it's ruining the potential of the movie.
I like Brie as a Captain Marvel but she needs to work on her acting skills because she was trying to blend two extreme sides of two different characters together and it was just too awkward and fake. If she toned down the "i am a hero" act and "i'm funny" act it would go together way better than it actually ends up being in the movie.

In the end, I was able to have some fun with the movie but I wouldn't call it a great experience like with some other MCU movies.

During the film she has many action scenes that she claims in interviews to have done herself but upon repeat viewing and outside evidence this appears to not be the case. She claims to wan't to make a movie for "everyone" but in the next breath she **** on 40% of the population and dismisses their point of view with an offhand valley girl-esque remark. I wonder if her portrayal of Captain Marvel is a response to how she views 'patriarchy' and that her "resting female dog-face" has transformed from just being a bad aesthetic into an entire character. Brie Larson as Captain Marvel is the resting **** of comic book superheroes and as such deserves a low rating, much lower than the corrupt critic-class will give anyways.

Cheers.

Metacritic is removing newlines for some reason. The MCU now has a Goku. There is a long running joke in Dragonball Z abridged where when a good guy is losing a fight, the villain would mock them by saying "just wait for Goku." By the end of the movie, Captain Marvel is so powerful that absolutely nothing is a threat. Not the main villain, not the orbital bombardment fleet, and not the hundreds of soldiers and warfighters sent against her. The reason she wasn't present in the other movies is explained, but IMO it is a cop-out. When Captain Marvel inevitably wipes the floor with Thanos in end game, the Dragonball Z knockoff saga that is now the MCU will be complete, last minute Goku/Superman syndrome and all. But that's the MCU. How does the movie stand on it's own? My answer: solid 6.5/10. With Captain Marvel being so powerful, the story hook is focused mainly on Captain Marvel's struggle with fabricated memories, as well as a war where the sides don't seem so clear cut. The set up is perfect for a story about an OP character, and the general story beats worked out great. The Effects and choreography were par for the course for MCU movies (good), and the acting was Mostly done well. In terms of the movie itself, I had several issues. The pacing felt off in many of the scenes, with a few weird glaring continuity errors right at the start of the movie. Sometimes the scenes played kind of slow, other times they transitioned before the previous scene could sink in. The acting from the lead, Brie Larson, felt pretty stiff. This seemed to be as much the director and writers' fault as it was the actor though. Captain Marvel is often smug throughout the movie, though she randomly goes from super confident and smiley to super serious throughout both fights and tense moments. I think Disney wanted a hero that is both stoic, and funny, and is in general better than everyone else. The result feels like a fan-fiction insert. As for the acting itself, there was a scene that perfectly exemplified my issues: Maria Rambeau talks with Captain Marvel to fill in some of the holes in Marvel's memory. This is a very emotional scene for both characters and in Rambeau and it clearly shows. However, Captain Marvel (who seemed like she should be just as emotional at the things being revealed to her) twitches a little bit must mostly keeps the same stone face. As for the identity politics: they were present, bot nowhere near the level we see in the recent comics. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. At best, Captain Marvel is a so-so film, featuring some decent acting by Jude Law and Samuel L. Jackson. Having Stan Lee reading a copy of Mallrats' script for his cameo was great, given the 90's setting. However, it's clear that the film was made with very little care to the continuity of the MCU.

A few examples:
* S.H.I.E.L.D. agents were referring to the agency by its acronym in the 1990's in this film. They had been using the full name of the agency until the events of Iron Man, in the 2000's
* In Captain America: Winter Soldier, Nick Fury stated he had lost his eye as a result of trusting someone. His eye was lost due to being scratched by a cat in this film.
* The Post-Credits Scene clearly did not happen. The Avengers were taken totally by surprise when she showed up in Endgame. Had she shown up as depicted in the Post-Credits Scene, they would have likely been expecting her.

Essentially, I don't even count the film as being part of the MCU. While Captain Marvel's appearance in Endgame is absolutely canon to the MCU continuity, this film clearly just didn't match up.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The plot is all over the place Captain Marvel is a Mary Sue with no character traits besides being always right and arrogant for the sake of feminist being happy. Her arrogance is never treated as a flaw because again she’s always right and it doesn’t help that Nick Fury is dumbed down to a sidekick role and only serves to make jokes and get beat up and the way he loses his eye is beyond a cheap gag and insulting to the character we know and love. Ronan had no reason to be involved except to show how high and mighty CM is. And the movie even states she’s nothing without her powers which is beyond true but then we get a cheap moral done lazily so she wins. What should’ve been an action filled battle with her partner was treated as a joke throwing away all respect I could of had for this movie. The Skrulls being good guys wasn’t foreshadowed at all coming out of the blue for another cheap and mishandled message this time about black people. Overall Captain Marvel was an insult to the entire MCU and I’m disappointed Captain Marvel didn’t die in EndgameEndgamenowhere Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie made me fall asleep. The flat acting, the obvious shady practices disney used to inflate it so more people would see it regardless of the sjw vomit that it was, and the most unlikable actress in history all combined to make a level of cringe and terrible picture mak8ng that even Danvers herself couldn't save. From the involuntary groans I made with every boring second she was on the screen, the canon that 15 years of ncu has built be taken away, everything. In this atrocious film, S.I.E.L.D. supposedly was only created after this incident with the Kree, but it was also created in the 40's in every other movie and tv show marvel has produced. The fault was on disney, but mcu allowed this mess to incorporate their name so they are not out of the blame. Every "twist" was predicted, the the trailer showed every scene that you needed to see to know the plot (or what was supposed to be a plot) was going to be lackluster at best and offensive to people that have been waiting for Endgame since IronMan at worst. I award you no points and may god have mercy on your soul. Expand

So many mentioned that Larson's performance is expressionless... I would've taken expressionless, it could've even contributed to a character under some "alien" influence, over that stupid, smug face. I would've taken expressionless, it could've even contributed to a character under some "alien" influence, over that stupid, smug face. Whenever she encounters an "obstacle", which is always a breeze and hardly inconveniences her, she wears this condescending smirk. You can almost tell she's imagining how the target is a 40 year old white dude. Expand

Тупые фемистки!!! Кстати, фильм скучный, только хомяку он понравится. Женщины хрупкие и ранимые, а не сильные и независимые

It’s horrible!!! I don’t know what marvel was thinking with this lack luster movie. I don’t even know where to start to explain how bad it is.

I go to the movies to enjoy myself, not to be preached to/talked down to. Also when she beat that guy up and stole his motorcycle, that was kinda a bad guy thing to do...
