I am tried and true fan of the HBO show, that said: Yes the movie was funny, yes Sacha was great, Azamat was tremendous (not to mention he spoke Armenian on screen-I'm Armenian so that bias points there). But my bone to pick would be the lack of focus on the strangers being interviewed and the large amount of attention given to Borat. Borat is the secondary joke, the raicst and sexiest idiots are the real joke and the movie seemed to never fully capture the stupidity of each interviewee like the TV show does. It seemed as each "setting/interview' was rushed and never fully exploited.Iit's more about Borat and his trip and the story. I understand it's a movie and there has to be character/story/plot so in that sense it was a 'good Borat movie', but compared to the TV show, the TV show is funnier, hands down. Hence all these 10's and 9s are not justified because as a movie it's good but it's not a classic comedy. The TV show is a 10 and compared to the show, the movie can only disapoint in my eyes, hence the 5. Expand

The sacking at the end is also incredible, despite the fact that it was probably staged. Regardless of what others might say, I maintain that Borat is a hilarious, refreshing and unique film. Expand

"Not only does the movie make Americans look like racist illiterate pigs, but the pervasive homosexual content made me feel like I came to a gay porno" So... instead of racist, your homophobic? Dont get offended by it, y'hear? Anyways, this movie is genius. Of course America has racism. This movie manages to be amazingly crude and funny without insulting your intelligence like movies such as Scary Movie. By exposing racism and bias in America, Sacha Baron Cohen has allowed us to laugh at ourselves, but be a little disgusted at the same time. The film will make you feel a little uncomfortable. You may squirm in the theatre. But you'll love it all, and I guarantee you that you will not regret spending the money. Expand

Why pick on this tiny country and make all its citizens look like fools? He could have used a ficticious country but to denigrade this small country is wrong. The jokes were cute at first but then became painful to bear. It's a bit funny, but mostly it's just cheap high school grade yucks. Haha, look at that guy, he has sex with his sister. Isn't that HILARIOUS?? Actually, no-- it's not that funny. The funniest elements are mostly products of the embarrasing situations that come up, but many of these situations are excruciatingly painful to watch, especially when Borat is a jerk to people who are genuinely being kind to him. That's not very funny, in my opinion. It's rather mean-spirited. Yes, you'll laugh, but it's all cheap, fleeting humor. Is this the Emperor's New Clothes phenomena. I can't understand the critical acclaim. The movie is pure dreck, garbage of the first rank. There are only a few bits that work. In addition the confusion about what is scripted and what is not scripted and who is an actor and who is an innocent victim is distracting. None of the brilliance of the TV show is to be found here. Take my word for it, the reviewers are misleading you. Expand

Borat's simple politcal underlyings and true, gold comedy allow for a great time. It leaves no American to spare and has no shame. Some scenes caused me to laugh harder than I have for a long time. Absolutely loveable.

I honestly haven't laughed this hard at a movie since the South Park film. You definitely have to check the P.C. attitude in at the door before you see this one. I would think you would really have to have absolutely no sense of humor I honestly haven't laughed this hard at a movie since the South Park film. You definitely have to check the P.C. attitude in at the door before you see this one. I would think you would really have to have absolutely no sense of humor to not understand what exactly Cohen is up to with this film. 'Borat' is really quite an ingenious comedy. It's very stupid as all get out. And yet it's also very, very smart. There are moments in here that are both laugh out loud funny and then frightening as hell. As funny as this movie is, Cohen and co. really paint a painfully ugly portrait of American culture. The hypocrisy, racism, sexism, jingoism and homophobia on display are unsettling. And at the same time, just as you're cringing with embarrassment or disgust, you start to laugh. 'Funniest movie ever'? I doubt it, but it's on a short list of candidates. I know I pretty much laughed the entire 80 mins. of its running time. Oh, that hotel wrestling scene!!!!! It's one of the best movies of the year. Expand

It's low brow humor, but there are tons of gross-out comedies. It's a mockumentary that mixes reality and fiction, but other shows and movies have done that. It's slapstick, but so are the Three Stooges and Charlie Chaplin. It's surreal humor, but so is Strangelove. It's a road movie, a buddy film. But most of fucking all, it's a mixture of everything i just listed in the mst fabulous way, and this mixture of so many different strands of comedy, done well, will obviously create its own totally unique blend. Because what is any original concept, but merely a great mixture of previous concepts. In short, this is a very unique, original, even groundbreaking movie, and in our generation where most concepts are rehashed, that is praise enough, But somehow, it also manages to be a consistently enjoyable, funny-from-beginning-to-end film. And that alone is also rare enough. It didn't make me laugh quite as hard as some critics said it would, but it had me giggling the whole time, and with the other qualities i just mentioned . . . how can i really give this lower than a 10? It's a landmark. Expand

It may appeal to more open-minded people who appreciate social satire. Cohen and his writers don't explore the satire any further than having Borat cluelessly utter and do the most offensive things and showing how Americans react. Some people on his southern route from New York to L.A. exceed his unassuming crassness, racism and sexism. Because they have clues, they are mean. Others show their better natures and either try to assist this bumpkin or draw the line on decency. As bad as the movie makes Kazakhstan look, it makes the United States look worse. Yes, you will probably laugh, but there are different reasons for laughter. Sometimes it covers a sense of discomfort. There is a lot of that kind of laughter in this movie. That said, the hand-held camera work is very effective. Many of the small parts seem to be played by non-actors, making the story more real. The 90 minutes did not drag for me, and I followed with interest to see how many taboos Borat would break. I lost count. Expand

The Honestly one of the funniest films I have seen all year and maybe one of the funniest I have seen ever. Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan is so much more than what people think it is. The satire in the film goes very deep and interesting. We needed a movie seen through the eyes of a foreigner. It reveals the honest racist bigotry, the way we feel about certain topics, and just the honest cruel truth about people in this country. Yes the movie is not PC, it can be racist, anti-semetic, and full of sex and toilet humor, but if you get past that this movie will have you laughing for the entire 82 minutes. I quote Borat about this movie, "Very nice!" Expand

Borat is the bomb. It is the type of comedy that (yes) reaches the depths of shamelessness and outrageousness that blow your mind in a way you're probably not ready for, but will probably cause you to laugh, hard. However, aside from Borat is the bomb. It is the type of comedy that (yes) reaches the depths of shamelessness and outrageousness that blow your mind in a way you're probably not ready for, but will probably cause you to laugh, hard. However, aside from the shock humor, and more impotant, is the satire and nude exposing of rascism, bigotry, and general human roboticness that this movie exposes. Only a movie with 90 percent toilet humor can get away with the level of political and social satire that this movie does. It is an incredibly funny, but also brave and honest film that hopefully will inspire more independent thought in Hollywood and (to some degree) Americans and the world as a whole. Expand

I dislike gross-out comedy, and I tend to dislike comedy that makes you feel very uncomfortable, but I absolutely love smart comedy, which here, trumps all poop humor. In addition, the situations Baron Cohen places himself into are so dangerous and outrageous that you can't help to laugh and wonder if it is scripted comedy. What it says about our social issues is something that can be studied again and again. This is genius at work. However, if you are easily offended, avoid. Actually, go ahead and see it. Borat tries hard to be the biggest idiot in the world, but he can never quite compete with his unwitting co-stars, few of whom are brave enough to stand up to him and many of whom exceed Borat in bigotry.
