There are many things that were changed and omitted in this film dedicated to Freddie Mercury.
Still, I think this movie is pretty good if you're not such a fan of this person.

The movie is a bit slow around the end of the first hour, but it does pickup after that. The Live Aid show is really full of emotions and energy. Love it. The acting is relatively solid. Rami Malek just carry this movie. His performance is amazing. The movie doesn't fall into scenes of debauchery and sex. It is mostly alluded. The music is great but not really presented in a chronological order. I give it 78%. I had a good time watching the movie, even if the middle section wasn't that engaging. Expand

It's been three years since I watched this movie, and in the intervening time I've never even considered listening to a Queen song. I will rhapsodize no longer.

It didn't flesh out the most important part - Freddie's struggle with the disease. Instead it focused on the early parts of Queen and his "wild" life in terms of his new-found sexuality. I would appreciate this much more if it focused on the more important bits of his late life.
As I am opposite of doing 2-part movies, this would server better as an entree for the second movie, which would battle Freddie's health decline and death.
And his relationship with his partner, who stood with him till the end was way too short.
Rami was great, but that doesn't make a great movie.

Not a favourite band of mine by all means, but it is difficult to not understand their importance and appeal. They had some iconic songs (namely "Bohemian Rhapsody", "We Will Rock You", "We Are the Champions" and "Don't Stop Me Now") and Freddie Mercury's immediately recognisable vocals and Brian May's virtuosic guitar playing were always out of this world.

'Bohemian Rhapsody' fascinated me when hearing about it and became most of my most anticipated films for the year. When hearing some negativity for the film, my expectations lowered a little, but saw it anyway because it did look and sound good. It did turn out to be a good decision, it is good to see that others here loved it and don't agree with the mixed critical reception respectfully.

Sure there are clichés (such as what some of the rest of Queen say) , but very few films are not and many are much worse in this regard. Like a lot of biopics, there are inaccuracies that may drive die-hard Queen fans into a frenzy, and the odd factual distortion, but again 'Bohemian Rhapsody' is not the first or worst film to do this and am going to judge it as a film on its own and not on a documentary level.

As a film on its own terms, 'Bohemian Rhapsody' has an awful lot to admire. Getting the issues out of the way, the ones that could have been handled much better was the with the revelation of Freddie Mercury's AIDs diagnosis to the rest of the band, could have been done with more tact and less crass (like saying what it was a consequence of) and revealed too early and at the wrong time, and the implications with the phone ringing off post-taking centre stage that the event was a flop when it actually was a triumph.

Some of the early parts were a touch rushed as well, Mercury's ascent to stardom could have been less breakneck.

However, 'Bohemian Rhapsody' is stylishly film and evokes the period beautifully. As to be expected, the songs are incredible and will be embedded in your brain for a long time, then again it is Queen of course. They are affectionately staged and performed in a way that made me remember what made me appreciate Queen in the first place.

Didn't find the script that simplistic or cliff-notes like, while there is a nice mix of moment of laughter, tension and tears and enough parts that entertained and informed, if not as in depth as it should. The story is never dull and the Live Aid depiction is both rousing and poignant. It's capably directed and while all the performances are fine if underused, it is Rami Malek's outstanding turn as Mercury that will live long in the memory, true to what made Mercury so interesting a person and performer without being an impersonation.

Concluding, impressively done and better than anticipated. 8/10 Bethany Cox

I enjoyed this film for most of the duration but it was that final scene, the infamous set during Live Aid, that I found really, particularly engrossing and memorable, much like (I imagine) the real life performance.

I felt that Rami Malek did give a particularly good performance as Freddie Mercury. Freddie's undoubted charisma comes across quite well on screen. Of course there's the fact that (as some critics/others have mentioned) some (sexual related) details were glossed over, shall I say, which I believe was mainly done to allow the film to get the lower 12 rating, rather than a 15. I wouldn't say it entirely detracted from the film - it is perhaps a little sanitised, perhaps there's an element of artificiality about it, a bit but the film is still a decent, pretty solid film regardless. There are some witty lines of dialogue and I enjoyed seeing the group (Queen, obviously) rise in popularity and how Freddie got on (or not) with the other band members and the like. This is a fun film to watch if you want to have a bit of a sing along and its intriguing in terms of the plot. I like Queens music but I can't say I knew much about the history of the group, so I found this both an entertaining and an insightful film. How true it is to the history of the group, I can't really say but as a film itself, its a decent watch and so I'd recommend it on that basis (rock on!!).

Sure some story points were left unexplored and they played this film little to safe but Rami Malek as Freddy was able to save this movie together with rest of cast and greatly potrayed songs.
So Bohemian Rhapsody is solid movie about rock and music legend

I must point out that it is a movie about Queen and not a biography of Freddie Mercury which is not a criticism (Some expected this and found the movie a bit disappointing because of this). Queen is and was more than Freddie Mercury even when he is the driving factor, a legend and probably the greatest entertainer of his age especially on stage. He is however the most prominent character in the movie (Anything else would be surprising). Also it leaves out some things which is also O.K. because it is an entertainment movie not a documentary. The movie tells the story of Queen from the founding until the legendary Live Aid performance. Sidenote: They added the real Live Aid performance under extras. I recommend to watch it as it is a legendary performance that is always on the top list of all time live performances and entered music history. Back to the movie. It shows the struggles, up and downs and success with its price. There is always some attrition in successful bands no matter the genre, home country or composition. All are just humans with flaws and being penned up on long tours, composing sessions and public relation events has a toll. It is however also not a deconstruction of Queen or its members. It was so great how the songs were integrated with their creation stories like “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “We will Rock you” and “Another one bites the dust”. The “Who wants to live forever” scene is heartbreaking. The movie Live Aid performance is just awesome and I praise the recreation. Anyone who is not touched by this is already dead on the inside. Of cause it tells about Freddie’s illness and sexual orientation. The later is not much shown because many countries are homophobic up to death penalty. Even his home country of Zanzibar which has a museum devoted to him is intolerant. Lets go to the actors: Rami Malek won the Oscar for his performance and rightfully so. He became Freddie Mercury for his role and made a stellar performance. Gwilym Lee is a fantastic Brian May as are Ben Hardy as Roger Taylor and Joe Mazzello as John Deacon. Like in real live they are a bit outshined by Freddie or better said Rami Malek. They still deliver a great performance and I will praise them all. For the rest I will praise Lucy Boyton as Mary Austin, Aidan Gillen as John Reid and Allen Leech as Paul Prenter. A really good to great overall performance. The main star is of cause the music and they made full use of Queens greatest hits. One of the best soundtrack in movie history and I would have bought it if I did not already own all songs. What I should also praise is the style and look of the movie. Everything looks believable and authentic. From small details to the big sets and costumes. Overall this is a phenomenal experience for Queen fans and even non fans. They made so much timeless classics. It was enjoyable from beginning to end but I will give a fan boy warning for myself to be fair. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie succeeds as entertainment, but fails as a biopic. The first problem is evident from the beginning. Sex and drugs were part of Freddie Mercury's lifestyle, and the PG-13 rating keeps these aspects to a minimum. I was also annoyed by the incorrect chronology. "Fat Bottomed Girls" plays during a scene set four years before it was released. Freddie is diagnosed with AIDS two years earlier than he was in real life, just to make the Live Aid concert more emotional. Speaking of the Live Aid concert, that is the final scene of the film. Nothing after 1985 is documented in this musical legend's life. The acting is convincing, and the editing is slick, but so what? "Bohemian Rhapsody" fails at what it was supposed to do as a film. Instead of following the actual timeline of events, the movie shifts around and makes up some of the events for the purpose of movie drama. I took no offense to that and enjoyed the movie for what it is: A celebration of Freddie Mercury and Queen. Rami Malek does a really good job playing Freddie even though he exaggerates Mercurys slight speech impairment a bit too much. Since the movie as it is is already over 2 hours long, they cut out stuff like finding John Deacon as the bass player of Queen. I hope we will get an extended cut of the movie at some point. Expand

TheBohemian Rhapsody is a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury. Freddie defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet. The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound. They reach unparalleled success, but in an unexpected turn Freddie, surrounded by darker influences, shuns Queen in pursuit of his solo career. Having suffered greatly without the collaboration of Queen, Freddie manages to reunite with his bandmates just in time for Live Aid. While bravely facing a recent AIDS diagnosis, Freddie leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music. Queen cements a legacy that continues to inspire outsiders, dreamers and music lovers to this day. The problem with this film is the pacing, one minute Freddie is working as a baggage handler and the next minute he's instantly doing world tours. In fact its so ridiculous that Freddie meets a girl and then engages to her instantly a couple minutes later. This is terrible story telling and it all feels rushed.

Straight Outta Compton (not comparing music), built up the characters far better than this film. For instance, you see Eazy-E doing bad things and getting arrested for a large portion of the film, THEN he grows larger with NWA. That is how a film should be. I think it's a problem with the script writers, all of the actors know how to play their part but that's the only redeeming quality about this film. Had the script been made by someone like Martin Scorsese, this would not be the case. In a nutshell, this is a film with wasted talent. The script writers do not know how to make films

Being a lifelong fan of Queen, I went into the cinema with high hopes for the project.

The film isn't a masterpiece, but it's certainly not a failure. Much like with their own contemporary reviews, Queen's traversal into the movie sphere has divided critics but garnered a huge following.

With most of the project having been directed by Bryan Singer, it has his signature over-reliance on digital effects in parts. The sets and outfits can sometimes feel too crisp and pristine and sometimes detract from the authenticity of the era they are portraying.

However, the film does follow the band's history rather well, albeit at a break-neck pace at times. Some with some rearrangements of events and certain parts of their history either omitted or made up, it's important to view the project as a film and not a documentary.

The cast are absolutely fantastic and very authentic, with particular praise to Lucy Boynton and Rami Malek for their respective roles as Mary Austin and Freddie Mercury.

The film really does shine in it's depiction of their creative process and performance of their most well-known songs. Whether these parts are entertaining in their own right or because of the quality of their music is difficult to determine, but it's entertaining none the less.

In conclusion the film is certainly worth viewing, especially with teenagers who otherwise would not have been exposed to their music before. It hits many high notes, and crashes on a few, but that is what Queen have always been known for.

It follows your A->Z biopic formula that we have all seen too many times. The film doesn't take many risks and tends to lose itself in telling a basic story than actually having an effect on anyone watching it. The only reason people enjoyed this film is because of Queen's music and an amazing lead by Remi Malek. Bohemian Rhapsody is simple, bland, and can be quite boring as it takes a basic formula and does nothing with it, besides follow it.

Interrupted between abysmal slowness and minimum acceleration for a 20 minute end in concert. Problem 20 minutes to fill the gap is long and what reason to push the director to leave this part as it for a "Biopic". The biopic is a story of a man who tells and counts a life. A concert is another style. The music is nothing transcendent we know the music queen or at least if we are interested we can listen. Next to the scenario started very quickly, the meeting between the members of the group is looped in 15min, the rise 15 minutes, the fall 1:00 approximately and 20min of concert. The result is a sad movie that you do not want to see again.

The performances were fantastic, but the movie as a whole is very standard and unremarkable. Also, the more I learned about the real story of the band Queen afterwards, the more I realized just how much this movie changed from the real story. So much so that it feels less like creative liberties were taken and more like history was being revised. That bothers me. Overall, this movie is worth seeing, most audiences will probably like it fine, but if you are a big Queen fan, I feel like this movie will be a disappointment for you. Expand

Maybe it lacks a bit of depth, but its playing time (more than 2 hours) just flyes by, and that for me is a sign of a good movie.
The other Queen members are also doing a great job, and the band scenes work very well.
The Live Aid performance is breathtaking (as it was in real life).

No biopic is 100% accurate or covers EVERYTHING but this one was relatively entertaining & informative. I thought the focus on the whole band would be boring but it wasn't. The actors sure do look true to who they're portraying. And I like how they showed the band's range by doing the whole "Queen is whatever we say it is" thing. They were one of the few rock bands to branch out & incorporate opera, disco...videos in drag in the conservative '80s... and they definitely paid the price for it with critics (especially American ones). There's quite a bit of editing of Freddie's drug use/erratic moods, and it's a shame they couldn't show more of his final years (even though it's terribly sad). Like it or not, the AIDS epidemic played a central role in not only Freddie's life but that entire era. But the actors were REALLY great. Can't stress that enough. If you want a strictly chronological/historical account of Queen or Freddie, there are tons of documentaries out there. This one is for the casual fan who wants to get her feet wet & enjoy some classic chunes. Expand

The first scene takes us right to the final moments of the film and sets the tone for the rest of the feature. It takes some artistic freedom and creative shortcuts in its storytelling for everyone's viewing pleasure. In other ways, this biographical extravaganza is much more than just your average biopic. It's the story of one of the greatest rock bands in our times and it has both killer performances and a killer soundtrack. Rami Malek has earned his Oscar, for sure!

The story itself flows nicely, mostly because it goes into the actual Queen phase quite quickly without proper introduction of the central characters. Hardcore Queen fans are surely going to enjoy this movie from the go, but casual viewers will be drawn in by the time the movie shows the creation of Bohemian Rhapsody. The middle part of the movie slows thing down a bit, focuses on Freddie's eccentric side, and tones down the band itself. It's all a build up to the spectacular Live Aid-concert; the 20-minute long closing sequence of the film, carefully reconstructed based on the legendary performance given by Queen in the summer of 1985.

Bohemian Rhapsody is at its peak when it shows the band working together creating some of the timeless rock classics. The rest of the film never really stands out, even if Malek and the rest of the cast manage to deliver some good dramatic moments. I would have wished to see more Queen, more music and simply a story with an actual end.

The story follows Queen as the band progresses from a bar-playing novelty into one of the world’s most foremost acts and the story of the frontman Mercury coming to terms with his previously closeted homosexuality and conflicts associated with that.
The film stars Rami Malek (Mr. Robot) as Mercury, who delivers easily one of the strongest performances of the year as the rock star. While a simple SNL-style impression of the character would’ve been sufficient to a lesser actor, Malek plays the character with surprising depth, managing to completely disappear into the role; channeling Mercury with eerie accuracy. It is a known fact that actors tend to struggle with playing real people as failing to perfectly nail the figure’s mannerisms and voice can lead to a distracting disconnect between the audience and the story, so, needless to say, Malek needed to nail this performance, especially due to the fact that this movie, otherwise, is not very good.
While the script has a handful of memorable moments, with some scenes being unexpectedly hilarious and clever, the story overall falls flat on its face. McCarten constantly resorts to contrived plot conventions and story beats; making the story feel unforgivingly generic. When the script isn’t riding the line between greatness and mediocrity, it is boldly nosediving into complete incompetence. This is made most obvious when characters randomly burst into hammy monologues for seemingly no reason; oftentimes jerking the viewer out of the story due to how jarringly unnatural it feels. On a technical level, Rhapsody is perfectly adequate. The makeup work which transformed the actors into these real people is impressive, but by Hollywood standards, nothing to write home about. The camera work and film editing are visually interesting, but again, nothing too extraordinary. Even the direction by Brian Singer, who is usually an exceptional director, feels uncharacteristically flat and uninteresting. With all of these factors working against it, you’d think that Bohemian Rhapsody would be an arduous, unpleasant experience, but you’d be wrong. In fact, there’s a lot of enjoyment to found from this disaster of a movie. Rami Malek’s stellar performance coupled with the unsurprisingly amazing music work in conjunction with a couple of genuinely exciting scenes. At the end of the movie, in fact, there is a genuinely breathtaking final concert sequence that is guaranteed to leave any viewers breathless. Overall, it seems like the film is an enjoyable experience helped along by a fantastic leading performance, even if it never quite lives up to the incredible legacy of its subject.

The music is the only thing worth listening to and there's just not enough of it. The portrayal of Freddy Mercury is seriously off and the movie falls flat because of it. It's like the surviving band members want to put Freddy down after having lived in his shadow during the meaningful part of their carreers. While some of what we see may be true, it does not make the movie enjoyable to watch. The historical inaccuracies make everything you see highly questionable. Telling their truth and then telling things that are blattantly wrong do not go well together.

For me as a big Queen fan, the film is simply a masterpiece. I can well imagine that Bohemian Rapsody also likes non-Queen fans. But as a Queen fan it's just a different feeling. The iconic Queen songs like "Bohemian Rapsody", "Another one bites the dust", "Hammer to fall", "Love of my life" etc. (At this point I could name many more songs) were always used in the right place and were therefore very fitting. It was tried to represent the origin of the respective song, which was always very interesting. You have to mention that Rami Malek was very well chosen as an actor for Freddie Mercury. Rami Malek put himself into the role of the legend Freddie Mercury very well and was able to portray everything very detailed. This was especially apparent at the Live Aid concert at Wembley Stadium. The movements of Rami Malek were very detailed to Freddie!

In summary, I can say that the film is a masterpiece for me as a Queen fan. The life story of Freddie Mercury was shown very well. I can recommend the film to every Queen fan and music lover!

To be honest, I absolutely can't understand the bad reviews of "Bohemian Rapsody". Don't be afraid of it, just watch the movie and convince yourself!

I heard the movie was bad but still wanted to give it a try. Besides a Queen fan, I am also a huge Beatles fan. I am the kind of dad that gives his 10 year old kids 'The Story of the Beatles' in comic version as a present (and must read for 'general education'). Not a bad movie but not a great movie or a masterpiece, it's a fine movie and I give it a 6/10. A 6 is a pass and a "positive review" for me, but the minimum for a green score is 7 but that's too high for me. When I saw it I never thought that this could be an Oscar-worthy movie.

The fact that this won Best Drama Picture at the Globes over Blackkklansman, If Beale Street Could Talk and A Star Is Born, is just as laughably hilarious as when Crash won Best Picture at the Oscars over Brokeback Mountain. I'm shocked.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was shocked after watching this film. After Rami Malek got Oscar for the best actor I decided to watch this and I am proud of his acting. Every time I watch films based on someone's biography after watching I start to research what had happened in reality. And this time I was shocked the second time because of the similarity of actors to their real characters. Rami expressed and shared emotions and feelings to the audience. The process of making "Bohemian Rhapsody" was so descriptive and I feel like I was there near them and was a part of that great process. After all, I watched Live Aid concert and was shocked the third time. I was crying because of the fact that how a film can be so similar and can share the inner spirit of the past event. It shows not only the biography of Freddy but also a biography of Queen at all, as a band as a family as friendship. It was dynamic.
The music, actors and overall scenario were awesome and despite the fact that there were some minor points which were not the same in reality, the movie is a masterpiece.

Rami is awesome. But this movie is trash. Scattered, sugarcoated, and UNTRUE. Half the events in the movie are edited or totally made up. This is NOT a movie about Queen. It's a movie about a fake band based on Queen. Poor cheap writing.

The movie tries to make a caricature about the image of Freddie Mercury, treats him as a steric person and a totally different person than he was. But I really enjoy this movie and I think it is pretty great. Rami Malek does a tremendous job portraying the late great Freddie Mercury. I do agree that it is pretty much a movie of Queen's greatest hits which is why I really liked it. Watching this movie and listening to the greats such as We Will Rock You, Hammer to Fall, Radio Gaga, Fat Bottomed Girls, etc. is part of the experience. An issue I had with the movie is during the live aid sequence, Rami Malek's performance looks a little strange. He moves a little robotic like, especially when he opens his mouth. A problem I have with it is not only does it look strange, but it also looks like he's not even singing. I understand he wasn't actually singing during that sequence, my problem is that it doesn't look like he was really singing. Overall, I really enjoyed the film, it has some issues, but I think the performance by Rami Malek, and the hits by Queen are definitely the selling point. Expand

You'll find out when and why Farrokh Bulsara changed his name and when he determined he was bi. You'll also learn that when Freddie makes a firm decision, it's final. You'll also see the beginnings of their hallmark title song but interestingly it's never fully played, kind of ironic. In many ways, the film is very similar to A&E's "Behind the Music" documentaries. What it doesn't show, though, is actual footage of Freddie/Queen, nor does it show Freddie's death/funeral, both of which I found a bit disappointing. Expand

The big budget Freddie Mercury/Queen biopic is at its best during scenes of the band in the recording studio or performing on stage. Rami Malek stars as Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. He emulates the way Mercury moved his body during performances and reproduces his captivating stage presence with a surprising degree of success. The scenes between the music, however, for Malek and everything else in the picture fall flat.

Queen was not an average band so it’s perplexing and flat out disappointing that the movie telling the story of the band and its flamboyant lead singer is so by the numbers and full of biopic clichés. Every scene feels like it has been transposed from any other musician biopic. There is the scene where the band has a rough start to a gig but wins over the audience. There is the scene of the lead singer being offered a solo album deal. There is the scene of a press conference where reporters only want to ask about the lead singer’s private life and not the new album. There is the scene of a record label executive telling the band that their most famous song will never be a hit. This scene is an eye-rolling low point mainly because the record executive who tells Queen that teenagers will never rock out to "Bohemian Rhapsody" in their cars is played by Mike Meyers (who starred in Wayne’s World where he famously rocked out to "Bohemian Rhapsody" in a car). There is even a scene where a fatal illness is signaled by a character coughing a few drops of blood on a tissue. This is the kind of biopic Bohemian Rhapsody is.

When he’s not imitating Mercury on stage, Rami Malek does a good enough job in the dramatic scenes but the oversized fake teeth he wears to look more like Mercury are distracting. Yes, Mercury did have a noticeable overbite but these false teeth make Malek look more like Bugs Bunny. The bland, basic biopic script doesn’t give Malek, or anyone else, much to work with in those dramatic non-music scenes. Mercury’s sexuality isn’t played down but it also isn’t fully explored. A montage of the band on tour (typical quick shots of tour buses, roaring crowds, etc.) shows Mercury, at the time married to Mary Austin (Lucy Boynton), glancing at and checking out other men. It’s unclear if Mercury is just looking at these men longingly or if he’s sleeping with them. The movie also never makes clear if the wolf-in-sheep’s-clothing record producer Paul (Allen Leech) is Mercury’s lover or just a hanger-on. We do get to see Mercury working through his inner struggles by composing some great songs, namely “Bohemian Rhapsody”.

The most original and exciting scene for me was the recording session of “Bohemian Rhapsody.” We see Brian May (Gwilym Lee) playing his guitar solo all alone in the empty barn serving as their recording studio. Then we cut to the rest of the band in the control room listening what the solo sounds like mixed with the rest of tracks. Mercury is like a conductor getting his bandmates to sing at the top of their vocal registers. First, they sing alone in the recording booth, then together, then all of those separate tracks are mixed together to create the final product. I once accompanied a musician friend when his band recorded in a real studio. This is exactly how a band records a song but I’d never seen a recording session portrayed this way until now.

There is a lot to tell in the story of Freddie Mercury and Queen so the movie rushes through the band’s beginnings—they’re signed to a record label and playing sold out tours in no time—to focus on Mercury’s personal struggles and the creation of several crowd-pleasing songs. Instead of feeling rushed, however, the movie still feels long and dragged out. The climax of the picture is Queen’s iconic performance at Wembley Stadium for Live Aide. Nearly their entire performance is recreated. This isn’t just the plot climax, it’s the emotional climax of the movie and I’ll admit to being overcome with the exact emotions the film was aiming to get out of me. Though as they played song after song I wondered, why not just show the real Live Aide footage? Despite being roasted by critics Bohemian Rhapsody was a box office hit finishing among the top grossing films of 2018 and it has picked up 5 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Rami Malek. I must admit I am baffled by the movie’s accolades and box office success. I presume that audiences and the people in charge of awards are responding to the great music of Queen and not the film itself. It certainly helps that the movie sends audiences out on the band’s most iconic performance of some of their best songs. But, you can get the same pathos and enjoyment from listening to Queen’s greatest hits and skipping the movie.

But considering everything that happened during filming, the overall result is not bad. I couldn't take my eyes off of Freddie...I mean RAMI. Rami Malek saved this film 200% and that was the only thing I needed to be sold on. This is how Freddie would've wanted to be remembered. It's enough. If audiences want a more realistic depiction of the studio sessions and other stuff, I'm sure there will be a documentary in the works for that. Else there are several videos on Youtube (Behind the scenes of studio sessions). I would call this a biopic on Freddie Mercury rather than on Queen as a whole.

It bears little resemblance to history, with characters, events, and drama fabricated and chronology utterly ignored in an unsuccessful attempt to make history follow Freytag's pyramid. Even to somebody like myself who was completely unfamiliar with the history of Queen, the movie felt like a work of fiction similar to The Greatest Showman. It's a sinking feeling that comes around the 20 minute mark and gets stronger as the film wears on with ever-more convenient plot points. But taken as a work of fiction, this film is simply weak. It's predictable and lacks any meaning below the surface level, and its attempts to elicit emotion are as annoying as they are contrived. The only redeeming quality is the performance of Rami Malek, but who cares? High-quality acting can be witnessed in countless films every year. What matters is the content, and in Bohemian Rhapsody there is little to be found. Expand
