Well it is not as bad as Iron Man 2 but it is not close to the best Marvel movies to date, it's pretty sad to see the lack of professionalism from journalist calling this movie the best superhero movie ever made, they are supposed to be neutral, but as in videogame journalism has shown how biased they are, long story short don't believe in their lies, Black Panther is enjoyable and you may like it if you are fan of the character and if you are ready to let pass all the cringe worthy PC/SJW/BLM lines in the movie.

Production values were really good but the casting AND acting were WAY below par. This was a set of B and C level actors in a production that deserved better. And the B-o-B violence just made this another street, thug film, such ashame.

Flat and mediocre, in both story and characters. Very good action scenes and pretty CGI, but these are the only good parts of the movie. The official critics are once more (and suspiciously so) far-far away from reality.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Unfortunately I found this movie sub par in pretty much every respect. The story line was slow and dragged out. The action was really hit and miss, with laughable power differences between characters (an armoured rhino was considered the hidden "power" weapon of the movie). Additionaly they killed of the two most interesting characters of the black panther Universe in this film "Killemonger" and "Klaw", easily the two most charismatic and well acted roles in this movie. The storyline was oddly racist towards people not of African descent, I know I know its a ficitonal African country, but still, its an odd message to have as the major plot point of the film.

The only major posoitive that i found i had for this film were the visual effects, the "sand/Dust?" hologram tech was really well done.

Apart from this you can easily give this film a miss, as it contibutes next to nothing to the MCU, part from taking away two of its best characters. (Literaly nothing happens, the end of the film leaves the story in the same palce as the start of it)

A nearly all black cast superhero movie to push us yet further down that contentious road to equality. In addition a propensity of female names also headlining the behind the scenes tech credits, and it would appear that many will be signalling their approval and be very happy with the result. Add to this the appropriate accomplishments in Costume Design, Cinematography and (despite the odd wobble) Visual Effects and a positive euphoria must be sweeping all before it. Critically acclaimed, a box office behemoth and already garnering talk as the first superhero movie to be nominated for Best Picture at next year's Oscars. It almost seems too good to be true. Oh, did I not mention the script! How silly of me to omit all that mumbo jumbo of a storyline that seems to have nearly everyone in raptures. Forget 'Ladybird' and 'Call Me By Your Name' this seems to be the appreciated literature of today. Still, on a positive note, equality has most definitely been established as this is as underwhelming and mindless as are the white superhero movies. Bored anyone? ME TOO! Expand

The CGI is strangely varied, nice in some scenes and comically poor in others. The "action" is very terrible, the dialogue is trash, and the whole development of Wakanda as a culture is absurd and bordering on parody of legitimate African culture. I think these films are so big and splashy that the studios have forgotten how to first craft a compelling story and then support that story with beautiful film-making in every single shot of the film. Black panther is just not a good movie, and it seems like a lot of people feel duped by the glowing reviews. This movie is VERY mediocre, if even that. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Picture an imagined realm of magic and majesty, a prince who is to inherit the throne, a flawed Father/King who is revealed to have have wronged a family member who becomes the central opponent. This is not Asgard, the prince is not Thor, the King is not Odin and the wronged family member is not Loki. Aside from a retread origin story, I also had issues with the tempo of the film. There are long spots where the plot drags and the dialogue seems to repeat itself and declare the obvious. Anyone paying attention would be able to keep up with the fairly simple premise and yet we keep getting exposition like the director doesn't trust the viewers to follow along. But my biggest complaint is the Disney Parks & Resorts TM version of Africa that we are presented with. This fictional Wakanda may as well be Austria with snow capped mountains. Animal Kingdom, Fort Wilderness, and Epcot must have been inspirations for the visual design and while it is gorgeous at times, it is not at all authentic. This is the Africa that many of us WISH was real; an Africa of wealth and technology, not war lords, slavery, disease and famine. The movie suggests that if Africa only had a natural resource like oil, over the centuries it would have had a different trajectory and would stand shoulder to shoulder with first world countries. This grossly simplifies and extremely complicated region of the world. I know missionaries and peace corps personnel who have described in detail the challenges that Africa faces and they are not something you can just throw money at for mosquito netting.
Black Panther offers an amazing vision of an advanced city and culture where tech and magic coexist and the people of different tribes live in peace and harmony, (until they don't).
This is the Disney view of Africa, it is shiny and clean and hopeful and a lie that has nothing at all to do with the documentary on rhino, lion and elephant poaching on Netflix I watched a few nights before.

After the excellent introduction of both the 'new' Spider-Man and Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War, the subsequent solo movies were inevitable.
Whilst Spider-Man: Homecoming was a decent enough film, the one I was looking forward to was Black Panther.... And I was bitterly disappointed.

The whole film seems like a rush job, as if it was made with a second draft of a rough script. The characterisations are bland and two-dimensional, with little or no effort put into creating empathy or depth. The dialogue is laughably bad, and the accents just make all the 'African' characters come across like those Nazis in war films who all speak English but with a Germanic twang.
The film does make reference to different countries having different languages, but why is the secret nation of Wakanda full of people who speak English?? The film makes a point about it being isolated etc, so it makes no sense.

But back to the script... The storyline is simply stupid. Nothing makes sense, and to be honest I felt more understanding for the film's main villain and his point of view than I did for those of the Hero..
And yes, we come to the worst aspect of the film, the villain and the whole 'hidden past' narrative element of the story.
The villain is introduced at the beginning, but then just vanishes from the movie for over an hour, while we deal with the right of succession of Black Panther to the throne, and the machinations of a South African arms dealer (with only 1 arm... Geddit!!). By the time the main villain comes back, it's just a tired cliche of the forgotten member of the royal family etc, etc, etc.. Ritual combat, in which the new king is simply thrashed in about 2 minutes (despite, apparently, training his whole life to be some amazing warrior)... It's nonsensical.

In fact, it's borderline patronising. Like the film-makers just said something like 'oh it's ok, it's simply another braindead Super Hero movie... Just throw in some more CGI and it'll be ok..'
But, unfortunately, someone said this was a film that breaks new ground in the genre. Black main character (completely forgetting Marvel's earlier trilogy of Blade films) and conscientous arguments about conservation, spiritualism, religious allegories....
No, no, and thrice no... We get some vacuous nods towards how humanity only exists to inevitably destroy itself, wrapped up in a heavy handed morality tale that has been told a million times better in a hundred other movies.

It's not like the action scenes are good either. The big spectacle set pieces are CGI snooze-fests, and the one on one fight scenes are badly choreographed and most are filmed in near darkness.

I can't recommend this movie. However, so many people will pay to see it, it doesn't actually matter. The Billion Dollar MCU will keep on rolling and, as we've seen, for every Iron Man, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Thor: Ragnarok and Ant-Man... We'll get crap like this and pretty much all the other movies in the franchise...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Oh man was this movie bad and I love Marvel movies and I enjoy Black Panther the character. The actors for the most part were great. The writing was awful, story has nothing to do with the Marvel timeline besides showing of Wakanda. Cringe dialogue, totally predictable slow moving plot and lots of stuff that doesn't make sense. A hidden city the size of Atlanta in Africa, where no one reveals its secrets? Millions of people living in perfect Utopia in a modern society and the tech or secrets never get out(besides one person) for 100's of years? The action is so bad - ignores physics so many times. Turning a speeding car by reaching down from the roof and digging claws into the pavement lol? Throwing spears from the top of a speeding car, through the car in front of you to spike it, by a lady with no super strength? Falling from 200 feet to the pavement with just a Panther suit and no injuries(even the War Machine was almost Paralyzed when he fell). Just so much bad with this movie. Expand

It is a poorly acted, predictable, fake looking two hour bloated mess of constant clichés. I rented this on Itunes as I wanted to see what all the fuss is about. I was honestly bored for the 1st half of the movie and stopped watching it, as it was almost too painful to watch. The only thing redeeming was Anthony Serkis. I watched the 2nd half a day later and it got more interesting. I am happy that some people love it. I would rank it above Fantastic Four and well below Dead Pool. As for the critics. What a joke. A score of 88? Seriously? This movie is plagued by all the things you rip other movies apart for. So you all are a bunch of hypocrites. Are you giving affirmative action bonus points to justify your score? I am all for Black Super Hero movies, but they should be good. Hell write an awesome superman who is black and let him save a city by fighting to the death. I will pay to see that. But I don’t need him ever talking about slavery and oppression or hearing the racist words like “white boy”. No thank you. Expand

While Spider-Man: Homecoming delivered some strong performances alright, Marvel otherwise fails time and time again in humane believability, including their latest effort in Black Panther. It still occasionally assumes the same mentality as Marvel’s three projects of 2017: Most of the confused stars attempt seriousness scene until somebody suddenly explodes in a snarky one liner the next to ruin the emotive flow.

The key player, Chadwick Boseman, proved his onscreen believability in 42, except here, the identity in his sleepy eyes mimic everyone else’s. The second-hand man, Michael B. Jordan, got his earned universal acclaim in Creed, but here puts on a forgettable mannerism any idiot could play to the same results. Then T’Challa’s love interest, 12 Years a Slave’s Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, expresses no memorable active girl power besides her first scene wrongly swinging a gun like a club. These indistinct portrayals appear very distanced by the way they talk at each other rather than to each other, as if they just glanced last-minute at the script before the camera rolled.

Unlike Malcolm X’s famous statement, “a man who stands for nothing will fall for anything,” several female characters should’ve fallen out of the final draft, because they stood for nothing other than the hero’s plot importance. The screenwriters chose even greater wrong turns in the dialogue because they were too fearful to take risks, resulting in bland morals pulled out of Intro to Screenwriting 101. Such morals included: “No man is perfect,” “You get to decide who you will be,” and, “Fight for what you love.” Uninspired, much? Heck, even the Stan Lee cameo turned out dull!

Onto Wakanda, a friend of mine said he saw Wakanda’s political decisions as the negative ideas between Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X mixed together. Honestly, it is a neat observation, but the little sense the world makes turns any political agenda it attempts ineffective. In its essence, Vibranium, the strongest substance in the universe, fell from the cosmos millions of years ago to form the whole African civilization, which now somehow features high-tech buildings coexisting alongside traditional African walkways. Did nobody think of including the apparently endless Vibranium supply in the clothes they wear?

Wakanda’s visual style also essentially insults Africa’s old traditions by making it look hip under overused bad CGI, especially since modern slang made its way into this culture trapped in the past: “wazzup” and “antelope in headlights” to name a couple. A creative visual choice includes expositional Wakandian text, except after the first twenty minutes it goes away forever—leaving the established African culture to get outshined by a rock music fueled car chase tainted hot pink by South Korea.

Although, plenty of strong emotional elements in the picture’s scope still pay off, including some Oakland Black kids who shoot hoops into a milk crate to contrast the massive crystal clear futuristic city seen shortly after. Surely Black Panther might help Black audiences feel inspired from the tribal drums pounding to the heartbeat of a tense battle on top a steep waterfall, spears gradually closing in on the combat. Topping off the roller coaster ride in the climactic fight, the immersive sound of a train built by the Wakandites glides across your scalp to force your attention on what’s important. At a more melancholic level, Ryan Coogler’s direction evokes sorrow in his symbolic use of violet, found primarily in the heart-shaped herbs grinded into spiritual liquid. I would love it if Coogler soon took on greater projects under a more social responsible studio.

Now look back at Black Panther’s blatant political agenda. The focus is not only on empowerment towards African Americans, but makes those who historically enslaved them look bad, this makes its way into the film, purely for the sake of brief laughs, when White people call Blacks “savages,” only to be in turn called “colonizers.” Once the racist backlash seems to be over, a first end-credits scene literally screams Black Lives Matter with no sign of being subliminal about it, setting off a second last end-credits scene that throws in one last unnecessary joke degrading a White guy. People suffer in many ways, so rich nations and poor nations must choose to take responsibility in global financial sustainability, a healthy mindset Marvel slaps right in the rump.

Seriously, we live in a time when a Black man can sit in the president’s seat, yet still sense the need to stress about diverse representation?!

A few times the acting was absolutely terrible. I sat there and thought oh this is supposed to be a dramatic moment but the acting, mainly in part of the female actors were just flat.
Martin Freemans American accent attempt was rubbish!!!!
They rehashed scenes from Civil War but didn't do them as well as the CGI was terrible.

The plot is lost in this movie, as hollywood continues to think that we are looking to them for political opinions. We have no interest in their opinions, and wanted a movie about the Marvel universe. What we recieved was sloppy acting, contradictory plot points, and a good sountrack. This movie would be without controversy and just as important to the point that they wanted, had they not forgotten that this was entertainment first.

In short, this is the first Marvel movie that I do not think that I will watch twice, which is a shame, being how great the actor introduced him in Captain America.

Lastly, CGI can f*** off thank you. The fight scenes of this movie were absolute trash. Is it too hard to have a real hand to hand combat sequence without lame CGI? It looks bad and it looks fake AF. 3/10 for me and a shame because after Infinity War, my hype for Marvel came back and I decided to start watching the movies I missed. Of course in the end it is always about the white and black community with nothing in between in the United States. Racism exists in every country, color, up, down, and sideways. The black community is not the only community to suffer racism. White communities, Asian communities, etc. In spite the fact that in this county that we still base everything on ethnicity is horrifying. I DO NOT consider myself Chinese-American only American. It is very sad to see this kind of movie and not feel connected at all to the characters. There is no inclusion or connection. It is about us versus them as per usual. Didn't exactly help there was media about how people are supporting children in poor black communities to see the movie. What about everyone else who may not be able to see the movie who are in a low income area. I didn't realize being poor was only limited to the black community. The only thing good to come out of this movie as the badass women who did a great job of being badass women. I clearly felt that women did not need to be protected or taken care of but it would be nice to have a partner in life not a requirement. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It was not the worst in the MCU, but it was not great, low on action, which is disappointing because the main action sequence was awesome. Story line was good, but made the movie way to long. Hollywood needs to stay out of politics and make good art, this movie was almost ruined because of politics and the far left making this out to be some kind of revolution, when it was a about a comic book character and a MADE UP African nation. Coogler needs to stick with dramas like Apollo and away from these type action films, the cgi was almost as bad as Superman's non mustache and not far from Ang's Hulk. Not a bad film, better than Iron Man 3, level with the Thor 1 and 2, I'd put it around number 8. Would have been in my top 3 if it were a Netflix series instead of a box office movie Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Black panther was not a good movie. it was at best a sub par superhero movie. the movie had some quality effects and acting, but that's about it. in terms of writing and story this film fell very short. I would first like to point out the biggest problem I have with this movie, simply from a storytelling perspective. when engaged in ritualistic combat with this movie's primary antagonist the main character loses all his mystic powers to even the playing field. he then loses, badly. now losing to the main villain the first time is a common plot point, but normally the main character loses due to a lack of planning, foul play, or a need to train and gain some new perspective to defeat the antagonist(luke returning to Dagobah, Batman climbing out of the pit bane was born in, etc). here black panther, whose sole merit is his training and good heart, loses. he has lost all my at this point. The only thing i've been told is his strong suit, honorable combat, he has just lost at, but I am somehow supposed to believe he is the one meant to fix everything. Take iron mans suit away, he's still a genius, take caps shield away he's a super soldier with a heart of gold, take black panthers panther powers and pajamas away, and he's apparently worthless. but there is still some chance to redeem himself. he could learn something new despite the fact that he has trained for ritual combat his whole life. maybe it's some emotional revelation. he does gain some tension with his father but even in his visit back to the spirit world he doesn't really confront him, he just mentioned it and says he has unfinished business. this new emotional conflict wasn't present during the original fight with the villain so how its resolution would help him is beyond me. he then wins the last fight for no reason other than it was the end of the movie. he tried using some weird tactic with the train, but if you cut out every scene of them dodging a train the movie would have been exactly the same. on that same topic if you cut out every scene with the man from the CIA the movie would have been the same. this movie is full of filler like this that doesn't really move the plot. the fact that people are praising this movie so much confuses me. it is not new or fresh, it is a heap of rehashed plots, themes, and tropes. To top it off the beginning and end of the movie are exactly the same. What I mean by this is that nothing has changed. If you just show the first couple minutes and the last couple minutes nothing seems to be different. Black panther becomes king and stays king and everything is the same.in almost any good movie something has to be different at the end, the plot had to change something, look at almost any of the most famous classics and the ending has something different, even the big lebowski had change at the end.there is some minor difference at the end, they are trying to do more with the outside world, but this is cut short at the end of the movie so we really don't know where that goes. And the whole theme about helping other countries didn't really have anything to do with the main conflict of birthrights.

I am honestly baffled that this movie has received such shining reviews. It is nothing special. It was no better than any other superhero movie. I'm not saying a superhero movie cannot be amazing. The dark knight was an amazing piece of cinema, but this movie had no substance, nothing new or interesting, no characters that weren't generic (scientist sibling, honorable warrior man, angry young antagonist who was wronged). There are some other specific issues I have with the movie’s plot but I'll leave it at that. This movie was bland, just like the vibranium pajama wearing hero it was made for.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The film is very weak in many areas namely acting, editing, music and story. There is much to comment on, but the exaggerated portrayal (over acting) by the sister of Black Panther is perhaps the most noticeable. They accents grate, the line delivery and often dialogue is spongy and shallow. The sound design and music may well have been fantastic but it was buried in the centre of the screen, mixed low and non impactful. The scene where the Black Panther “arises” after being thrown to his death is built up then ends abruptly like it never happened. The fight scenes are cut in such a way they don’t often make sense. The city is confused... why with all the tech do they still have spears? Why is there a portal as African life being so tribal and simple? It was also noted that Wakanda is a walled city with a big wall and that no immigrants are permitted. This was all an opportunity to be open and present a world that is better than our own. And it just fails. The world is small and bigotted. The central plot has our hero come back from certain death claiming he is the rightful king. However he lost a fight and the rightful king went to someone else. His claim that “I did not submit” is not strong enough because he was thrown over a waterfall and stopped fighting. So his claim is false. A key point of the film seems to be that The Black Panther rejects the ceremonial traditions of Wakanda in favour of a coup. He is not the rightful king and we are expected to agree that he is, just because he’s a nicer guy. It’s such a gaping script/plot hole. Unforgivable in a film with this support. I’m baffled why so many are saying the film is good. It’s truly terrible. Expand

I can't get over the hysteria surrounding the film. Maybe if ten years from now, I was a child binge watching super-hero films, I might take it at face value. But, as an adult now, I can't let my finances support these political edge movies are requiring I.e. Wonderwoman - Feminist Movement, The Danish Girl - Trans movement.

For the record, I'm cool with women. I'm cool with blacks. I'm cool with trans LGBTQ+++. I just don't want to buy a ticket to prove I'm cool with people. Theses outside associations are super seeding the quality of the film and how we make films. There's something for everybody, I guess. Can't we just make movies without the additional angle?

Strange social commentary lurks underThe plot is unoriginal and the visual effects are poor compared to other Marvel movies. The actors do a fine job considering that they are not asked to do or say anything more than generic superhero fare. Strange social commentary lurks under a thin veneer of poorly rendered CGI. An example from the trailer is that this resource-rich African society has built a wall to keep foreigners out. It made me wonder if this was a comment on the USA but I rarely see pro-Trump messages from Hollywood so this is a bit confusing. I decided the script was all over the place and the audience was not expected to think too deeply about the vague paradoxical references to racial inequality. The superhero costume is good but it is also copy-pasted for the villain, the other characters have very poorly designed brightly-colored unrealistic synthetic tribal clothing that was clearly only worn once, showing a genuine lack of effort. These poorly costumed characters all stand on this CGI waterfall, that appears to have them all trapped really high up, but they don't seem to notice and just dance on the spot. There is a glimpse of that in the trailer by the way. I must confess that I fell asleep in the theater and missed the end, but I saw it on an airplane and found out what happened. The ending was quite predictable. If you turn your brain off at the door there is some fun to be found in this below average action flick. Expand

It's the only African-American superhero movie in Marvel's universe.
And It's the highest-rated of all Marvel cinematic universe movies.
And honestly - it's a boring, cliche-ridden dullness.
And now that I've seen it, I have a theory as to why it's so overrated:
It's a correctional bias. Over-exaggerated political correctness. People are rating this movie highly, simply because it is the only all African American Marvel movie.
The plot itself is somewhat good. The acting is somewhat good. But the directing suffers from excruciatingly cringe-inducing exaggerated African accent.
I was unconvinced by the ridiculous mixture between Yoga, African tribalism, and technology. It's a bizarre line to thread - one that simply does not mix well.
Tribes are our past. Technology, modern sciences - all of these have eradicated tribalism, simply because that is the way of society. Attempting to create a convincing world of a "technologically-superior tribe" is simply ridiculous.
The movie tries to keep reminding us that these are "tribes" people, and all this mixture simply does not go down well.
From an honest, purely emotional perspective, the majority of other Marvel movies are blessed with much better moments than this one.
This is a ridiculous occurrence, in my opinion - if there were more than only-one African-American superhero, then this movie would see its deserving Metascore of 5. Anything more than five is, in my opinion, trying to make up for the fact that - there are no other African-American superhero-centered movies from Marvel.
And honestly - that's a shame, because indeed Marvel's superheroes tend to be White Males - in their vast majority.
This movie should serve as an eye-opener - but this doesn't mean it should be so highly praised. Lying to ourselves just further occludes the truth. It never really helps.

Objectively, its a bad superhero movie, compared to others (even the bad ones). I loved Danai Gurira, shes a really bad ass actor and that role fit her very well. But the rest?
The logical ties in the universe make no sense at all, if you take all the other movies together. The acting could have been better (especially that of the main actor). The bad guys are all jokes or even worse versions of young Annakin Skywalkers in black. The story itself makes not much sense either, nor does the depiction or imagination of Wakanda. Its like an insecure 10 year old wrote it.
It honestly boggles my mind how this movie gets such high reviews. Just because its mainly black actors? I dont get it. If I was black I would see it as an insult, because the movie is that bad and cant compete with "white movies". It felt tedious to get through it.
Spawn, Blade or Hancock deserved that much hype much more than this movie, if you just look at the "black".
Seriously, normally I can see a pattern in seemingly senseless high ratings (or even low for that matter), but this time... If I would have to guess, the reasons for these high ratings are actual racism and virtue signalling only. But that cant be, can it?

Watched every Marvel film to date. Black Panther is by far the most dull.

After watching the first cartoony CGI scene of the Black Panther wrestling in a dark suit in a dark jungle: almost turned it off. It's like 80% of the CGI budget went to building Wakanda (which looked great). 20% went to the CGI live action scenes - which look comically fake.

The one thing that makes the Black Panther a hero? Vibranium. Can you imagine if the only thing special about Wolverine was an Adamantium suit? There is a glaring lack of imagination here and the climax of the picture is utterly forgettable.

While the user score is currently split 50/50 between positive and mixed/negative, the glowing critic scores are wildly undeserved.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I never was interested in Black Panther when the comic was out, I was a little curious on the movie and wow... I want my time back. Terrible CGI. Afrofuturism really used in such a terrible way it sounds like false Black Empowerment. Thinking they're the master race or something. None of this movie I can find that remotely makes sense. (I know it's a super hero movie but come on, at least other ones you can find reasons to understand it, it's too ridiculous and to the point where it's just plain unbelievable to enjoy.) Did you know that the original comics was based off of black stereotypes too? I know many characters were in the past during that time but holy crap these choices were bad. I'm guessing a good change being the women aren't sex slaves like the original?

A gift that fell out of the sky and landed. Nothing but black people had thousands of years to build around it, create a dictatorship with slaves and normal people still living in huts, taking drugs to worship animals and fighting to the death with spears. Wakanda definitely sounds like a crappy tribe with false empowerment, in fact it kinda sounds racist. Technologically advanced, Culture? Not really lol. It gets really funny when Wakanda suddenly knows all languages lmao.
If that scene where they bring a white person to Wakanda for medical attention was all white, there would've been so much backlash. Since it's black I guess that's ok though.

It's really hard to look at Wakanda and not compare it to real world history but uhh... nah that's not gonna stop. It's stupid.

I really don't want to write anything about this movie anymore so I'm ending this review early.

In short:
Half finished plot with hollow characters. The only good thing I guess is it's a low standard action movie.

The main theme of the movie is about how a child from Wakanda (who grew up in America) decided that Africans are still oppressed in such a way that he thinks overthrowing the entire world to "rise up" is a better idea than to actually help the current Africans with Wakanda technology and people all over the world (since currently there are more people suffering in 3rd world countries, than first world) one of his main talks is about how the middle city African Americans have it so bad
that all they can do is be given guns and take back what's theirs, I guess the irony is lost. The basic theme is extremely racist towards white people (again never stated, but the movie clearly implies and there were many dialogs between characters that imply it was white people (calling a character "white boy", calling the same character "Colonizer" and this was from a main character in the movie). I understand there is still racism and I am not blind to it, but the way Disney pushed this White vs Black agenda is pathetic, (clearly racism beats racism in their views...) I wouldn't mind if there was an actual reason as to why he wanted to fight for the oppressed, since I understand bad guys don't really need a reason, but they tried to hamfist this idea that there was oppression in the first world that I don't fully understand where the main bad guy gets his reasoning, he built his way up in a first world, obtained a full life he could as a person of color and even went on to cause a war
to break out between his OWN people without any remorse so if he really "cared about his people"
why is he fighting and causing war with them? I don't understand the logic behind the main plot
and really all it feels like is a scapegoat to a real agenda and feels like propaganda to me. As for the movie there was little for me to actually like, The tech was by far the best part but you could clearly tell that it was designed in such a way that they could be used to sell merchandise to children (Hey I get it, they need to make money) but because of that and nothing really else
I found nothing in this movie that I really enjoyed. The story could have been well done, the script and screenwriting was extremely bad, the characters (other than the main bad guy) were bad actors and overplayed their parts.

I thought way to much time was spent on the set up, and the set up was boring. So many actors in this movie that I usually like, but not in this movie. Chadwick Boseman was great in 42 and I own that movie on Blu-ray, Dania Girira is great in TWD and Angela Bassett is great in 911 and AHS. Also I didn't think that Martin Freeman felt right in his part, it seemed a little forced. So many Marvel movies are better than this, like Iron Man "2008," X Men "2000," X2 "2003," Deadpool, Doctor Strange, The Avengers "2012", Guardians of the Galaxy "2014" Captain America Winter Soldier and Civil War. All of these movies listed are better, in my opinion, but Black Panther is better than Thor "The Dark World" and X Men "the Last Stand" but it is nothing special and Definitely Not Worth A Score of 88, AT ALL... This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Typical reactionary BS from Marvel, thinly disguised as somehow progressive. Let's get this straight--in a film called Black Panther, our hero teams with a white CIA agent to kill the one radical/revolutionary figure (and the film's only African-American character, who's from Oakland no less--home of the Black Panthers). He defeats the latter's plans for militant resistance to the current oppressive racial system and instead basically opens a string of charter schools in Oakland. Uh huh. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Music is defined as, "An orderly arrangement of notes that are pleasing to the ear. Similarly, when I watch a movie, I look for this same "orderly arrangement" of scenes and music that are pleasing to the ears and eyes. This lack of an "orderly arrangement" made the movie hard to follow. It looks as if the Director tried too hard to compete with more accomplished directors, such as the maker of "Gladiator". So, I leave this advice for this movie's director: Begin with the end in mind. Understandably, there is a big gap in the critic ratings. For those that ranked this movie "10", ask them: What did you like best about this movie? Watch how many times you hear, "Ah...Well...Let me see...I plan to see it again." Then, you can decide for yourself. Expand

First of all, let's be clear: this is just another Marvel movie. It is as unique as a Big Mac. There is an enormous amount of CGI, infantile plot twists and the usual superhero cringe-worthy dialogue. To make matters worse, the movie indulges in some in-your-face black power lecturing that gets old really fast. I certainly applaud Marvel for putting a black director in the helm of one of its franchises and for making a movie comprised almost in its entirety of black actors/actresses, but that should not obscure the fact that this a mediocre movie. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm surprised I haven't read a comment that shinned more light onto the social stereo-types as well as the culture of American blacks. Black Panther unfortunately is slow and boring. The CGI was poor and any "fight" scene was terribly blurry. I am flabbergasted by many high reviews of this film, it was just as bad as the Incredible Hulk. The plot is hard to follow especially for kids as it present issues of: the crowning of the young King, to finding a long time enemy, to 2 ideas of how to proceed within the hidden tribe, to flipping towards the struggles of black American communities.

Half way through the film, they present an abandon member of their tribe who was raised in the poverty of America. This Cousin challenges T'Challa becoming king for a short time. Though this is where the film finally speeds up and sticks to 1 plot, it's filled with stereotypical social racism.

Lines are acted with cheesy effort, directing the tribe to send their weapons to their brothers and sisters around the world to kill the current leaders. Comments are continued to be made stating their people will rule the world. The most jaw dropping comment had to come for the Cousin's King when he states he wants to die like his ancestors as they too knew it was better to die then to live in bondage.

In our real world, where we are currently struggling with increased racism, the last thing our culture needs is a children's movie who confirms it's an "us" verses "them" world and the only solution is 1 type of people ruling the world. On the other hand, our King T'Challa is taught to keep the technology hidden to avoid it reaching the wrong hands. This comes to reality when the long time enemy re-surfaces showing he holds their secret vibranium material, abusing the power of this substance.

The movie would have been better had it focused on the African rich culture and left ideology of race wars out of it and probably needed Jordan Peele to direct it. This is not a children's movie, this is an adult film that presents the idea of using a corrupt super human to "fix" black poverty stricken communities using high tech weapons.

I'm so disappointed I didn't trust my gut and avoid this movie like the black plague. All the comments of nearly falling asleep is valid and I experienced the same sudden need to pass out. Don't believe the hype, watch Blade if you want to be empowered by a black super hero.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If someone wanted an example of what the copy and paste comic book hero story is, this movie is a perfect example. Good guys, bad guys come in, bad guys threaten to blow up the world, good guy wins. Take this formula and change a bit for the next comic book hero movie. Movie was just so incredibly predictable. Actions scenes were somewhat of a bore. CGI for a very expensive movie wasn't all that great and just looked just very CGI-ish.

Overall, I would not recommend this movie. Story is far too basic to be interesting and the action doesn't add nearly enough.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Good CGI but no story. 2 hours 15 minutes of your dad killed my dad I want revenge. It was hard for me to get into the zone of the fantasy as well when people dressed up like aborigine tribesman, people wearing loin clothes and plates in their ears and mouths, are standing next to space ships. I understand the need to maintain your culture and heritage but the overkill effect made it hard for me to get sucked in.
