Ironically Black panther doesn't commit anything heroic in the movie. He endangered civilians in car chasing scene. He attacked terrorists in the beginning of the movie - only because his girlfriend was there. Killmonger's motivation is stupid, he is easily one of the worst villains in MCU. Secondary villain was better than Killmonger. Wakanda's tradition is very dumb. Just random criminal comes to country, kills the king and takes the seat. And the wakandans just...accepted it. There is no any loyalty. The dudes from Border tribe are the worst traitors.… Expand

I tried to like Black Panther but the movie kept reminding me at regular intervals that the film is completely ridiculous and made for kids that are not educated or aware enough to see how ridiculous it is. The script cannot decide which story line to pursue and in attempts to converge them makes a mess. It's really difficult to determine what is going on because they jump all over the place. The writing and direction is terrible. Certainly they could have come up with a better script for this mammoth production. And the movie should have been identified for being insulting and offensive. The CGI is laughable. It's like he's jumping from this car to that and gets there with like one frame in between. The action is not smooth and it's like he zaps from place to place. I've played video games with better CGI.
I know people are offended far too easily but seemingly no where did I see critical thinking about how the movie's Black characters are portrayed. The premise is a hidden society with technology so advanced it's almost Star Trek advanced. Despite their supposedly being so advanced they choose a form of government from the dust bins of history. The absolute monarchy. They choose their absolute ruler by combat to the death. Indicating that they are not advanced at all. Any society that did that would end up with vicious dictators who are insane. Their "modern" country is like Mad Max Thunderdome. And the fact that Wakandans are not smart enough to discover the values of elective democracy and representative government makes one think that all that vaunted technology was dropped by space aliens into the laps of complete idiots. Wakanda is populated by competing tribes seemingly ready to latch onto each others' throats. Such a society would never coalesce long enough to build such a technologically advanced nation. They would have been too busy killing each other.
And this rare substance that appears no where else in the world? First of all scientists will tell you that is impossible. Secondly, it would have been all over the world like cocaine. The most valuable contraband possible and no mass smuggling? Come on. That one really insulted my intelligence. And what about the behavior of these black people? They act like a bunch of war- like primitive savages dancing around with spears in native garb in a frenzied tribute to racist movie stereotypes. Perhaps Wakandans were not allowed to watch satellite television and therefore never discovered shorts, slacks and T-shirts like the rest of Africa. Or how guns have won every war for over three centuries. How stupid are Wakandans? They deliberately dress uncomfortably and bring spears to a gun fight. Like old Hollywood of the Jim Crow era Black Panther is in the sad tradition of presenting Black Africans as vicious simpletons. Wakandans are so advanced socially they know how to ride a rhino like a horse. And they yell real good when they're killing each other. So what's next for the writers of "Black Panther?" Perhaps they would be perfect for the modern re-make of "The Emperor Jones."… Expand

T'chala and Killmonger were good actors and by far the best part but that is about all I can say for this movie. The special effects were noticeably bad and gave a headache and made me feel nauseous. How does that make sense? The actor was good but I was hard-pressed to believe the villain had any intelligence. A lot of characters were unbelievably stupid now that I think about it. Why is every critic review for this movie possitive like 40-60 I could understand opinions differ but there's loads of 100s which is the perfect score so people think this mediocre marvel flick (I love marvel a lot) with it's PS2 cutscene CGI poor attempts at humanising the villain who wants to ignite a race war If the villain was a white guy he'd be a Nazi you can't humanize a nazi basically this movie is hugely overrated and the most annoying thing is that nobody can see how mediocre this movie is which meant when I watched it I was expecting the best movie ever made.… Expand

The high ratings of Black Panther is a spittle to all world cinema, it is all the same on the movie. He empty and through passage, in 5-10 years will remember nobody him. But awards the Oscar and other recognition "allegedly critics" just causes irritation

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I never was interested in Black Panther when the comic was out, I was a little curious on the movie and wow... I want my time back. Terrible CGI. Afrofuturism really used in such a terrible way it sounds like false Black Empowerment. Thinking they're the master race or something. None of this movie I can find that remotely makes sense. (I know it's a super hero movie but come on, at least other ones you can find reasons to understand it, it's too ridiculous and to the point where it's just plain unbelievable to enjoy.) Did you know that the original comics was based off of black stereotypes too? I know many characters were in the past during that time but holy crap these choices were bad. I'm guessing a good change being the women aren't sex slaves like the original?

A gift that fell out of the sky and landed. Nothing but black people had thousands of years to build around it, create a dictatorship with slaves and normal people still living in huts, taking drugs to worship animals and fighting to the death with spears. Wakanda definitely sounds like a crappy tribe with false empowerment, in fact it kinda sounds racist. Technologically advanced, Culture? Not really lol. It gets really funny when Wakanda suddenly knows all languages lmao.
If that scene where they bring a white person to Wakanda for medical attention was all white, there would've been so much backlash. Since it's black I guess that's ok though.

It's really hard to look at Wakanda and not compare it to real world history but uhh... nah that's not gonna stop. It's stupid.

I really don't want to write anything about this movie anymore so I'm ending this review early.

In short:
Half finished plot with hollow characters. The only good thing I guess is it's a low standard action movie.… Expand

I feel bad for the black community, but only internally as they seem to gobble up this slop. And now that I've seen it, I have a theory as to why it's so overrated:
It's a correctional bias. Over-exaggerated political correctness. People are rating this movie highly, simply because it is the only all African American Marvel movie.
The plot itself is somewhat good. The acting is somewhat good. But the directing suffers from excruciatingly cringe-inducing exaggerated African accent.
I was unconvinced by the ridiculous mixture between Yoga, African tribalism, and technology. It's a bizarre line to thread - one that simply does not mix well.
Tribes are our past. Technology, modern sciences - all of these have eradicated tribalism, simply because that is the way of society. Attempting to create a convincing world of a "technologically-superior tribe" is simply ridiculous.
The movie tries to keep reminding us that these are "tribes" people, and all this mixture simply does not go down well.
From an honest, purely emotional perspective, the majority of other Marvel movies are blessed with much better moments than this one.
This is a ridiculous occurrence, in my opinion - if there were more than only-one African-American superhero, then this movie would see its deserving Metascore of 5. Anything more than five is, in my opinion, trying to make up for the fact that - there are no other African-American superhero-centered movies from Marvel.
And honestly - that's a shame, because indeed Marvel's superheroes tend to be White Males - in their vast majority.
This movie should serve as an eye-opener - but this doesn't mean it should be so highly praised. Lying to ourselves just further occludes the truth. It never really helps.… Expand

his film, at it’s foundation, is deeply flawed. Awkward dialogue from most characters excluding the lead. The action is unoriginal and hard to become invested in. CGI is below usual Marvel films and story is horribly paced.

One of my least favorite Marvel movies. I thought this movie would be god but it really wasn't. Everybody liked it because it was a move with a black main actor and was about black people. Its so obvious that every critic is afraid to criticize this movie out of fear of being accused of racism or hating black superheroes. Watched every Marvel film to date. Black Panther is by far the most dull.

After watching the first cartoony CGI scene of the Black Panther wrestling in a dark suit in a dark jungle: almost turned it off. It's like 80% of the CGI budget wentWatched every Marvel film to date. Black Panther is by far the most dull.

After watching the first cartoony CGI scene of the Black Panther wrestling in a dark suit in a dark jungle: almost turned it off. It's like 80% of the CGI budget went to building Wakanda (which looked great). 20% went to the CGI live action scenes - which look comically fake.

The one thing that makes the Black Panther a hero? Vibranium. Can you imagine if the only thing special about Wolverine was an Adamantium suit? There is a glaring lack of imagination here and the climax of the picture is utterly forgettable.

While the user score is currently split 50/50 between positive and mixed/negative, the glowing critic scores are wildly undeserved.… Expand

I'm Black and I think this is one of the worst movies I've seen in a long time. There was no tension, no suspense, no exciting mystery to unravel. The first half of the movie is a painful slog to sit through, lots of talking about familyI'm Black and I think this is one of the worst movies I've seen in a long time. There was no tension, no suspense, no exciting mystery to unravel. The first half of the movie is a painful slog to sit through, lots of talking about family issues which aren't compelling due to a lack of conflict between those involved, that is until Killmonger shows up. He is one of the better characters in the film. T'chala is very stoic and reserved and shows no charisma. I also don't appreciate comments like "colonizer" directed towards the white character as if today's white americans are somehow responsible for slavery. Many of the whites living in the usa came from immigrant Eastern European families that moved to the states in the 1800s, and most certainly did not have African slaves in their native countries and historically played no part in the African diaspora. On top of that, they weren't even considered "white" when they first immigrated and were treated poorly. I wish Hollywood would get their history right if they are going to make politically charged movies. I'm Black and I know this. I wish to see a film where whites, black, asians, etc. are all treated with respect and guiltless. As a black woman I am disgusted to think Hollywood thinks I must be a bigoted racist with an axe to grind against all white people.

Did I mention that this movie is boring? My father fell asleep while watching lol The whole time I was glancing between the film and my phone, waiting for it all to end. It was like being trapped in prison for 2 hours. My family were all quite disappointed with this film.… Expand

Every time Michael was on the screen he started shouting "I am gonna free every black person alive and I am gonna destroy the white people". Every goddamn time! I would have liked the movie much more if they kept the message more subtle. And the pacing of this movie was.......... it can't be described in words. It has some of the worst CGI I have ever seen. Every fight scene looks like a mario video game. I don't even know what to write. This movie was so bad that I was at the edge of my seat because I almost fell asleep.… Expand

So so PopCorn movie. Ignore the critics, they have probably been paid to write a good review. The movie is ok if you really don't have anythings else to do. My tip: Go have dinner with a couple of friends instead. You won't miss anything.

I am sorry, I really hate this movie. I find it really horrible. It was boring and I was just wishing for it to be over. The film had a generic story with a generic villain. The fight scenes could have been much better like in Civil War. Don't bother watching, Thor 2 is better surprisingly.

Good guys, bad guys come in, bad guys threaten to blow up the world, good guy wins. Take this formula and change a bit for the next comic book hero movie. Movie was just so incredibly predictable. Actions scenes were somewhat of a bore. CGI for a very expensive movie wasn't all that great and just looked just very CGI-ish.

Overall, I would not recommend this movie. Story is far too basic to be interesting and the action doesn't add nearly enough.… Expand

Then you have wishy-washy click-bait based 'news' articles online saying that in order to be able to grow as an individual, white people "need" to see this film in order to be able to disconnect from themselves. What a load of BS.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie was clearly about racial issues (and not much more in my opinion) so I'm going to discuss and explain how this is just dividing (colonisers and modern day slaves) ~yes, that is the movies terms for (white and black) people
though not explicitly stated as Whites and Blacks it's heavily implied.

The main theme of the movie is about how a child from Wakanda (who grew up in America) decided that Africans are still oppressed in such a way that he thinks overthrowing the entire world to "rise up" is a better idea than to actually help the current Africans with Wakanda technology and people all over the world (since currently there are more people suffering in 3rd world countries, than first world) one of his main talks is about how the middle city African Americans have it so bad
that all they can do is be given guns and take back what's theirs, I guess the irony is lost. The basic theme is extremely racist towards white people (again never stated, but the movie clearly implies and there were many dialogs between characters that imply it was white people (calling a character "white boy", calling the same character "Colonizer" and this was from a main character in the movie). I understand there is still racism and I am not blind to it, but the way Disney pushed this White vs Black agenda is pathetic, (clearly racism beats racism in their views...) I wouldn't mind if there was an actual reason as to why he wanted to fight for the oppressed, since I understand bad guys don't really need a reason, but they tried to hamfist this idea that there was oppression in the first world that I don't fully understand where the main bad guy gets his reasoning, he built his way up in a first world, obtained a full life he could as a person of color and even went on to cause a war
to break out between his OWN people without any remorse so if he really "cared about his people"
why is he fighting and causing war with them? I don't understand the logic behind the main plot
and really all it feels like is a scapegoat to a real agenda and feels like propaganda to me. As for the movie there was little for me to actually like, The tech was by far the best part but you could clearly tell that it was designed in such a way that they could be used to sell merchandise to children (Hey I get it, they need to make money) but because of that and nothing really else
I found nothing in this movie that I really enjoyed. The story could have been well done, the script and screenwriting was extremely bad, the characters (other than the main bad guy) were bad actors and overplayed their parts.… Expand

Lastly, CGI can f*** off thank you. The fight scenes of this movie were absolute trash. Is it too hard to have a real hand to hand combat sequence without lame CGI? It looks bad and it looks fake AF. 3/10 for me and a shame because after Infinity War, my hype for Marvel came back and I decided to start watching the movies I missed. I guess I started with the worst one (probably). Black Panther, DareDevil and Spiderman are my top 3 Marvel Superheroes, so another reason for me to be dissapointed at this mess of a movie.… Expand

I was honestly bored for the 1st half of the movie and stopped watching it, as it was almost too painful to watch. The only thing redeeming was Anthony Serkis. I watched the 2nd half a day later and it got more interesting. I am happy that some people love it. I would rank it above Fantastic Four and well below Dead Pool. As for the critics. What a joke. A score of 88? Seriously? This movie is plagued by all the things you rip other movies apart for. So you all are a bunch of hypocrites. Are you giving affirmative action bonus points to justify your score? I am all for Black Super Hero movies, but they should be good. Hell write an awesome superman who is black and let him save a city by fighting to the death. I will pay to see that. The actors do a fine job considering that they are not asked to do or say anything more than generic superhero fare. Strange social commentary lurks under a thin veneer of poorly rendered CGI. An example from the trailer is that this resource-rich African society has built a wall to keep foreigners out. It made me wonder if this was a comment on the USA but I rarely see pro-Trump messages from Hollywood so this is a bit confusing. I decided the script was all over the place and the audience was not expected to think too deeply about the vague paradoxical references to racial inequality. The superhero costume is good but it is also copy-pasted for the villain, the other characters have very poorly designed brightly-colored unrealistic synthetic tribal clothing that was clearly only worn once, showing a genuine lack of effort. These poorly costumed characters all stand on this CGI waterfall, that appears to have them all trapped really high up, but they don't seem to notice and just dance on the spot. There is a glimpse of that in the trailer by the way. I must confess that I fell asleep in the theater and missed the end, but I saw it on an airplane and found out what happened. The ending was quite predictable. If you turn your brain off at the door there is some fun to be found in this below average action flick.… Expand

I'm all for a black superhero. I loved the Blade movies. Falcon and War Machine are terrific in MCU. The story seems to be written to pander to fantasies of social justice, the movie even ending with Wakanda (an African country) providing technological foreign aid and support to the United States. Cringeworthy puns (the 'sneakers' joke for silent running shoes, really?) / jokes (the vegetarian joke). Every character acting irrationally. Special effects that look like video game cutscenes. Even Bucky Barnes in a post-credits scene looked super bored with this movie.… Expand

I have been a marvel fan since day one and this movie was REALLY AWFUL! There were several great actors, good visual, alot of action and yet no script??? In all the excitement about the way Disney has found a way to mine the metal in African-American pockets, with a movie all about Africans and superheroes, the first category of which exists and the second of which doesn't but the targetIn all the excitement about the way Disney has found a way to mine the metal in African-American pockets, with a movie all about Africans and superheroes, the first category of which exists and the second of which doesn't but the target audience is assumed to be feeble-minded enough to be 'empowered' by it, let's look at an opening scene which says all you need to know about this film.

The snooty white woman in the supposedly chic gallery devoted to showcasing African art pieces doesn't know as much about her gallery's own pieces as Eric, the cousin of the Wakanda king, who is however planning a heist. On moral grounds of course. The piece he has his eye on was stolen "by British soldiers" so he's taking it back. Because "how do you think your ancestors got their hands on this piece" as if the woman, though white, is a descendant of the looting soldiers. As added justification, he, being black, notes that she has had him "watched by security since he came into the gallery", an experience every African-American male with a top knot and dressed in jeans, T-shirt and necklace has had in every uptown art gallery they have ever frequented. The woman huffily objects but then discovers that Erik has poisoned her, creating a disturbance in which two accomplices posing as ambulance attendants rush in. They cap the scene, literally, by then butchering all the white folk who have crowded around to help. This scene is not racists at all however because the two ambulance attendants are played by white men.

And that is how this vile nonsense begins. This is a typical liberal agenda SJW film. If this had been a film about a mythical white civilization with white actors it would have been blasted by the critics. One of the worst superhero movies I have seen.
