I say "tries" because this... whatever it is, doesn't qualify as canon. It attempts to change past truths about Bill & Ted's family, established at the end of Bogus Journey. This is a trend that I see more and more in cinema today; Hero destruction (see also "Luke Skywalker" and most/all of the MCU, etc). Also, this... what ever it is, "attempts" to change the established, over-arching premise that Bill & Ted (and not anyone else) are in fact the Great Ones who save the world (see: Excellent Adventure and Bogus Journey). If I'm wrong, then this isn't a spoiler, right? That aside; the acting is horrid, the characters are forgettable, and the story is uninspired, even if called a "stand-alone." But, given the atrocities that these criminals have perpetrated on we the people, rest assured that they will pay the ultimate penalty for what they have done. Enjoy the show! Expand

Soderbergh bothers to be the executive producer of this frenzied fantasy. Keanu Reeves takes the opportunity to reintroduce himself as rocker (he was a member of the grunge-like trio Dogstar) and to parody a bit the phone booth of "The Matrix", a bit the infernal location of "Constantine" and much more (for example "Mr. Nobody", Dormael 2009), but his pairing with Alex Winter seems like a bad remake of "Dumb & Dumber" (Farrelly 1994), besides there is not a single moment of good music.

It was certainly amusing seeing the two original actors go back to their iconic roles, as if over/about 30 years hasn't passed since the last Bill and Ted film was out. I like the message behind the film but it is certainly very cheesy and quirky. The plot is a bit thin, though it had potential but I didn't find it memorable and I certainly wouldn't say its better than the first 2 films. I like the fact we meet the two main characters teenage kids. One female character I found a bit too weird (and another robotic type one I found off-putting) but its a short film and it is what it is. Not entirely unentertaining, in a silly way - nostalgia enducing, this is very much a film for fans of the first 2 films. It won't appeal to anyone else, I'd have thought. A bit of a cult film, this. Its ok-ish, I wouldn't recommend it. Expand

Also, it has a message that feels very relevant in today’s day and age. Watch it, have fun with some characters you already know and love, and most importantly... “Be excellent to each other”

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To start off I would like to say that at the time of writing I am 19 years old, so I do not have nostalgia for the Bill and Ted movies. I have watched all three movies and can confidently say that this movie was unnecessary, and definitely was not as good as the previous two movies. There are definitely a FEW funny moments between Bill and Ted, but those are far few in-between. The daughters are not funny whatsoever, and frequently made me cringe. They definitely came off as impersonators of Bill and Ted rather than two new characters expanding on the humor of the series. What made Bill and Ted great in the first place was that they were just two dorky, airheaded teenagers that somehow came off as charming. Billie and Theodora (daughters) were not charming and came off as trying too hard to be like Bill and Ted, rather than doing their own characters. The ending was disappointing because it was not Bill and Ted who saved the world but their daughters. The whole point of the first two was that the Wyld Stallyns were going to unite the world with their band's music. When the daughters save the world, they don't even play instruments. rather they use the equivalent of the real world app "Garage Band" to put together different sounds to make a song, which turned out to be generic and boring. Maybe they did this because because rock and metal aren't mainstream anymore? I'm not sure, but it definitely does not fit well with the aesthetic of the other two. Overall this is not the worst movie ever, but I think it does the Bill and Ted series a disservice. Watch it if you must, but don't expect too much. Expand

It's not quite as good, but still amazing. It's very cool how we get to see Bill and Ted as adults now, see their kids, and see them still be the same teens on the inside. Unfortunately, Rufus isn't there, but the actor died so that makes sense. An amazing movie, and a must watch for anyone who saw the originals. Expand
