Bill & Ted can't be the heroes because "2020" so it's all about their daughters.

The daughters played as poor, one dimensional, over-the-top mockeries of the original B&T characters...

Once more, instead of originality, the pabulum factories of Hollywood have to ruin what was good and drag it down into the mud with their political agendas.

The original two Bill & Ted movies are free flowing, funny classics that were full of amusing jokes and insane situations. By contrast the third feels stale, forced, with a meandering plot that doesn't actually entertain with only a couple of laugh out loud moments the entire movie. It spends far more time with Bill & Ted meeting depressing versions of themselves as total failures, and facing up to being useless nobodies. That's not great comedy.

I finished it feeling like I had wasted 2hrs of my time, and really wishing I hadn't bothered.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Full disclosure I stopped watching about 30 minutes in.

I made an account just to say this: Don't see this movie. I'm not sure what people are smoking but this movie is terrible.

Where we left off in Bill & Ted 2: They use the time machine to learn how to play, they come back with their two sons "little Bill" & "little Ted" then broadcast to the world and they finally do achieve world peace. The story was in essence: Over. This movie sets the scene by retconning the entire second movie, then retconning the concept of the series in the first place and then retconning their sons. It's weird to watch really. Bill & Ted go from icons in the future to myths, their story from legend to theory. Roofus is just some guy who had a wild theory that they SAVE the universe rather than just unite the universe. Every bit of the end of the second movie basically didn't happen and for some odd reason their sons are now daughters. But lets put all that aside for now as there is some debate whether canon in books, films and television should be completely ignored in favor of putting anything you can imagine together and calling it art. Me personally I think restrictions encourage creativity rather than constricts it but we'll put that aside for now.

The acting is horrible; Keanu Reeves clearly wasn't feeling the part anymore. Alex Winter was never good. The daughters were giving cringe-inducingly bad impressions of Bill & Ted. The story was just hackneyed garbage. They literally had to go back to hell again. The impression I got from this movie is that they wanted to do a do-over of the second movie and couldn't just make the plunge and say it. If I saw this in a theater I would have walked out. I almost walked out of my house. Don't see this movie. I truly don't get why people are giving this crap positive reviews. There is nothing good about it. It's like if Nickelodeon wanted to make another spy kids movie and decided to phone it in. Bill & Ted has always been stupid, silly and ridiculous but I never felt like they thought I had the mental capacity of a 4 year old. This movie is an insult to its viewers. It's essentially the director, the cast and the writers all saying: "You all have baby brains, be nice to each other." It's bad. Don't see it. They should be embarrassed.

It is a fitting end to the Bill & Ted journey. I won’t go into spoiler-filled detail, but I felt that the core story was satisfactory, but the editing and pacing was off and character development was not as good as I would have liked.

The film spent too much time focusing on the different versions of Bill & Ted, and not enough time on building fun interactions with the new historical figures introduced in this film. There was a lot of missed opportunities that the first film captured that this film did not. William Sadler and Alex Winter stole the movie and Keanu Reeves was okay, but he just didn’t seem to be on his “A” game.

Overall, this is a movie worth buying or renting. It is 91 minutes of mindless fun that is a great distraction for a world that was in desperate need of one.

An absurdist masterpiece 29 years in the making. They did it. They achieved the impossible. Bill & Ted Face the Music is not only a proper conclusion to this most heinous of sagas, but a singular and rare example of A Good Sequel That Doesn't Ruin Its Beloved Characters, which, as demonstrated here, shouldn't be such a high bar for Hollywood to hit. Reflect for a moment that in these days of milking franchises till they're dry, quality characters, quickly-paced plotting, and naturalistic performances are hard to come by, doubly so in the under-explored sub-genre of absurdist sci-fi buddy comedy sequels released 29 years later.

It's even rarer for said well-written, well-acted, absurdist sci-fi comedy sequels to have a heart and soul, and this one has two beating hearts named Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, who embody their iconic roles perfectly. (Its soul resides in themes uncovered by the daughters' journey, which I'll get to later.) I was practically cringing at this film's trailer, which somehow didn't sell me on its aging leads' ability to embody and recapture the wide-eyed, innocently boyish, lovable heroes they perfected in 1989 and reprised in 1991.

Thankfully, the trailer doesn't spoil the movie's best moments, nor does it give away too much of the plot, a miracle in this day and age.

It's also miraculous that the film manages to weave in the existential crises inherent with over two decades' worth of unfulfilled potential and unrealized dreams without ever being morose, downbeat, or cynical, and without losing sight of Bill and Ted. For all of 2020's crises, there is hope inherent in the fact that Bill and Ted never once gave up trying to write the song. They spent 25 (in-film) years, most marked by failure, and in their first scene, which is goofy, transcendent, tragic, and sweet all at once, they demonstrate that they've explored the boundaries of music with an outrageous theremin-throat singing-bagpipe performance that's several hundred years ahead of its time.

(Yes, the film retcons some aspects of Bogus Journey's epilogue in a clarifying introduction.)

There are jokes to be had at our protagonists' expense, but to their credit, original co-creators and writers Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson and veteran director Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest) display that most important trait of sci-fi storytellers: the ability to say "what if?" and go ham for 92 minutes of balanced crests and troughs that keep the plot moving at a quick clip. I didn't get to see any of the behind-the-scenes stuff, but I'm sure the filmmakers enlisted Winter's and Reeves' help to explore a number of different versions of the iconic characters in a delightful series of encounters. There isn't a single scene in this film where Winter and Reeves don't seem to be having the time of their lives revisiting these characters. It's worth watching for that, and their chemistry, alone. There's some sort of righteous alchemy here between the pair.

Bill & Ted, and their affable, smart, and understandably music-obsessed offspring, go on very different journeys in this film. As I said, if Bill and Ted are the film's beating heart, ever resilient and hopeful through years of disappointments, Thea and Billie's journey provides the film with its soul. Here, the theme of music as the great bridge between people is explored, through aural delights and cinematic scenes to wonderful to be spoiled with mere words. Jamming, call-and-response, teaching, rivalries, announcements, propositions, a wordless cry of raw expression and emotion - if you have deep feelings about music and its place in the history of the human experience, you might just be touched by this constant theme, which is interwoven with a story that, stripped of its sci-fi trappings, could be taken straight out of a blues song.

The storytelling branches out and keeps on pulling at new, surprising, and silly threads until it reaches its delightful and totally earned climax, an ending so stirring that it left Kevin Smith in tears.

This film hits differently to people who grew up on the originals, and it hits especially well if you've just seen those films back to back, like my wife and I did. In almost every way (I lamented the recasting of the wives!), Bill & Ted Face the Music fits in 100% with the first two Bill & Ted films, redeems any missteps in Bogus Journey, tickles the funny bone, and boldly goes for the heart. I'm overjoyed just typing out those words. Step aside, Star Wars. Make way, Lord of the Rings. Indiana Jones, take a hike. Bill & Ted is now an epic film trilogy, one I find easy to recommend wholeheartedly to almost anyone.

I will love and treasure Bill & Ted Face the Music as long as I live. Thank you to all involved for making this passion project a reality.

I knew this movie would make a lot of my fellow MGTOW guys butt-hurt over the remarkably charming daughters and their crucial role throughout the experience. Not gonna lie I did have a few eye-roll moments, but these were drastically overshadowed by how hilarious the film was. Always love Keanu but Alex Winters slayed in this movie. Where has he been hiding all these years!? The film was very imaginative and extremely well written. Even despite all of the PC check boxes you gotta meet for a Hollywood film these days, this movie was so well done. I promise this movie is not another Star Wars 7 or The Last of Us 2 replace the old father figures with young women trope. (Sadly this is a trope in 2020.) I would say this movie has a very touching overall theme that by Bill and Ted being fathers their lives finally became complete and more fulfilled. I can't remember the last time I saw a movie in the past several years and I actually thought, "Wow. That was actually not bad--STATION!"

Aaaaaand other times, I really just want a cheeseburger and a beer.
Bill and Ted are that cheeseburger and beer.
And if you go into a burger house expecting a rib eye and expensive whiskey, of course you are going to be disappointed.
It isn't a movie that requires a deep plot and emotive scenes in the rain.
It is a harmless flick about friendship, music, and the childhood dreams of ours that never really leave us, no matter how old we are. Bill and Ted were like two dumb puppies, that no matter how many times they run into the wall, you can't help but shake your head and laugh.
Now, they are grown up into big dumb scooby-doo dogs, and you get to watch them and their puppies run into walls together.
I am sure Keanu could be doing blockbusters right now, but he wanted to do this instead. This was an ultimate fan service movie meant as a thank you gift for the old fans.
I have read some weird reviews saying things like "This movie is trying to be politically correct, like calling girls princesses instead of babes".
Well... that is because the girls ARE princesses, duh. And I didn't notice any other political agenda in there. Some people don't really don't like women in movies that don't just get tied up by the bad guys.
I watched B&T growing up and I can't thank everyone involved enough for letting me step into their world one last time. Me and the Mrs both walked our with charmed smiles on our faces. Great job guys!

These films are meant to be fun and trashy and not much more than that. For what I came to expect from Bill and Ted, this movie is a perfect third movie. it delivered everything I expected and more. it made me laugh my socks off, and it wrapped up in a way that I never thought was actually possible. how could this movie present a song that unites the world? how would that even be possible. hey can't make music that good. and yet the movie delivers on that front to such a degree that I was dumbstruck. I have never cried so much from joy that the back of my neck hurt. This movie completes my childhood. On it's own.. it is of course a very trashy movie. if it wasn't, it would not be Bill and Ted. in this day and age whre every film follows a formula and has to be the best lighting, the best comedy, the best sound etc. films are stagnant and I really miss what films used to be. this film is unshackled by all of that and it benefits because of that. forget your billion dollar CGI. forget your perfect lighting. forget your epic score. what we have here is a celebration of good music, friendship, family and honest good fun. I love this film so much I have watched it twice in the cinema so far. I intend to watch it many more times. it is truly a gift. Expand

Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter may not be giving very good performances here but their chemistry with each other is excellent none the less. They still have that electricity they both shared with each other from back in 1989 and 1991. Unfortunately, George Carlin passed away in 2008 and his absence in this film, aside from a hologram cameo, really made me make this film the worst of the three. They keep mentioning his character and it makes you miss him. All the other performances here are fine and the two actresses who portrayed Bill and Ted’s daughters did a great job at acting like their Dad’s. The plot itself is fine. It’s engaging for the one or two of the time jumps but after that it becomes very repetitive. I really enjoyed the ending though. It was obvious that there was a lot of passion that went into this and it paid off with a beautiful concert. Although the actual ending is weird though. They finish the concert and then there’s two lines of narration and that’s it. It just ends. It feels like they were going to add something else but they just forgot to. The visual effects are definitely a step up from the previous two films but I feel like they will look dated in about 5-10 years. I also found the film to only be somewhat funny. I found the “villain” character to be super annoying while I found some of the future impersonations of Bill and Ted to be pretty hilarious. If you like Bill and Ted, then go check this out and if not, pass on it. Expand

Bill Preston and Theodore Logan (Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves respectively) started off in the first film as two dim-witted wannabe high school rockers who travelled back in time to recruit famous historical figures for their history report, and in this film are now grown up as dads who each have a daughter they hilariously named after each other (Billie and Thea). In order to save the world, they must travel through time to try and find a way to write a song that will literally unite everybody in the world. First off, the movie is plenty campy as expected, and contains its fair share of cringy moments, even to the point of becoming a bit excessive for my liking. However, I really enjoyed the chemistry between not just Winter and Reeves, but also their daughters Billie and Thea (Brigette Lundy-Paine and Samara Weaving respectively) who are essentially just as dim-witted and rock-obsessed as their dads in this film. I also enjoyed some of the musical cameos, such as Dave Grohl and Kid Cudi, but wish they could've been utilized a little bit more. As far as story goes, it's all ridiculous and kinda crazy at times, which I know is the point, but I can't help but feel like it all could've flowed a little better than it did. It all felt like a bit of a chaotic mess to me when all was said and done. Overall, as much as I enjoyed the chemistry between most of the actors, I was overwhelmed with the chaotic and overly frantic storyline, but also underwhelmed by it as well, as it really didn't bring anything too new or memorable to the table. It was fun and for those of you who grew up with Bill and Ted it was nice to check back in on them. You can see where the story is going for the most part and that made for a plot that is somewhat too familiar, but there were so many surprises and cameos that I was finding myself laughing a lot and not caring once I gave up on wanting something different. There was however one new character that I could do without. As far a I can tell they were inserted as a plot device and given very little thought after they made it into the script. All of this said if you are, or where back in the day, a fan of Bill and Ted there is a lot to like here and I would check it out. If you’re new I’d check out the first one and if it entertains you then finish the trilogy. If you don’t like it then this is not for you. Expand

Retconned story makes Bill & Ted too stupid to save anything, so the story focuses on how the women are better than the men at everything. Just another political soapbox movie like so many others. Really sad way to end this franchise.

I have no idea how people actually like this style of boring humor, but that's exactly what this is, and it's one of the worst. Comparable righteously unfunny movies like this would be Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, Scary Movie 5, and the latest Dumb and Dumber sequel. These actors are just too old and cannot pull off any kind of humor anymore in films like these. It's mostly due to the AWFUL script, so it's not all on the actors. The jokes are absolutely terrible. Jokes like "that was not a song" or "those are the worst us's yet, dude" or "most non-triumphant" are not even remotely funny. This is another one of the worst comedies I have ever seen. Never was a fan of the bill and ted series, so this really didn't surprise me. It gets 1 out of 10 for being a ONE time watch, if that. Too much time in the grave to try and bring back from the dead.

While the performances were pretty decent,Samara Weaving
Brigette Lundy-Paine do a most outstanding job imitating Reeves & Winter but do nothing to make anything but gender swapped imitations. Winter * Reeves both do a solid job reprising their roles and bringing something new to their characters with their age. Again overall the acting on its own was very solid, its just the writing was horrendous. The writing was terrible and given the benchmark of Bill & Ted franchise that is a bar so low you could trip over it. The "humor" was so dull, bland and inoffensive that its hard to suggest there was any comedy in it at all. I found two chuckles and they definitely were not at intended "jokes". The script completely missed the goofy humor from the first two and mostly just merged the main plot of 1&2 into a weird copypasta abomination.

I grew up with the original two films. I enjoyed them greatly and they stood in their place in the late late 80s and early 90s.

While media must evolve through time and story telling today is far different than it was 30 years ago, there is so much change that it illustrates all but the broad strokes of B&T were either forgotten or the writers were oblivious to. Most likely being from a period before many of the key writers being born.

Absent from this comedy movie about metalheads is... well.. metal. The soundtrack is proof of this. B&T1 soundtrack were roughly approximate to lighter mainstream metal in their representative time. Featured on both were acts like Faith No More, Megadeth, Warrant, Extreme and even KISS. B&T3 is basically devoid of not only mainstream modern or even 80-90s musicians, but of known artists at all. The soundtrack is pretty much just studio professionals akin to but not up to the level of Two Steps From H ell. Honestly for all the love this was supposed to be showing to metal from days gone by, the music comes off more like terrible "World" music. There is no anthem to be found here and all the songs are regrettably forgettable.

All in all I WANT to like the film but it was bland, boring, missing the point of the source material and going out of its way to ignore inspiration from it. It is just a retread of 1&2 mangled together into a butchered beast that is only concerned with trolling out nostalgic highlights and plodding its way through the mangled together patchwork plots of 1&2. It plays off more like a desperate payday to get Alex Winter in front of the camera instead of directing things nobody has heard of than a true successor to Bill & Ted.

One kudos I will give the film is that they resisted the urge to totally desecrate George Carlin's Rufus with age regression CGI & using a stand in actor and kept it to existing footage and manipulating existing audio tracks. Though they did WANT to.

2 is too low but 3 is way too kind. 2.65 from me. Not a true 3 but rounding up given the noble attempt by the actors to work out something with no script to work with that was clearly rushed and could have benefited from C19 giving them time to polish the whole project instead of trying to brute force a dud through.

Which is odd because the writer said he didn't want Bill and Ted to have sons because they would be too similar to the fathers. Although the writer would say otherwise it stinks of an agenda. Boys bad, girls good. The actresses really didn't shine in these roles. Not worth the wait or money. Better to wait to see it for free on cable. Had all the potential but execution was lackluster. Bill and Ted Face the Music is the exact movie we need right now. A movie that is just so goofy, positive and endearing that it is just a gigantic breath of fresh air in this age of cynicism and mean-spiritedness. Keanu Reeves and AlexBill and Ted Face the Music is the exact movie we need right now. A movie that is just so goofy, positive and endearing that it is just a gigantic breath of fresh air in this age of cynicism and mean-spiritedness. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter reprise their roles as Bill and Ted, two goofball musicians that were destined to unite the world through music, but have yet to do so. Now, they need to travel through time in order to discover that perfect song before all of time collapses in on itself. First off, it’s so great to see Keanu and Alex reprise their roles, especially Alex since retiring from acting. Both of them still have the same great chemistry, and they don’t try to come off as being younger than they are or, worse, as down on their luck cynical old men, but rather just older versions of themselves. They both have two daughters that have similar mannerisms and they do a great job in the movie as well. The relationship between the dads and the daughters could have been fleshed out a bit more, but it’s nice to see a family that is just so supportive of each other. William Sadler also returns as Death and he’s just as hilarious as he was in Bogus Journey. None of the performances feel phoned in. While this was a movie that didn’t really need to be made, everybody still cared about the project and wanted to make the best with what they got.

Speaking of which, that is admittingly one of the few downsides I had with the film. This was obviously made with a low budget, and at many points it shows, from bad green screen to relatively unimaginative locations. It doesn’t offer the same level of creativity as something like Bogus Journey. Some of the sub-plots also either don’t really go anywhere or kind of just get resolved in a throw-away fashion. The time travel rules don’t make sense, but it’s not meant to be taken all that seriously as it’s really just a vehicle to drive the plot forward. The movie itself also just kind of...ends, with no major resolution. Really, though, any major criticisms that I would have with this movie honestly get swept under the rug by how enjoyable it is. Face the Music just feels so out of place in this day and age, and yet that’s exactly why we need a movie like this. We could really go for a movie that is just plain wholesome and fun. You came back at just the right time, Bill and Ted, and I’m certainly grateful for it.

So, in a typical case of "damned if they do, damned if they don't", the franchise was faced with the conundrum of presenting "more of the same" or capitalizing on the fact that the duo is now comprised of two middle-aged suburban musicians, and thus far removed from the bubbly teens from the sequels. The writing is horrible, the acting is mediocre and there is no metal or hard rock. Why is Cudi in this? Where are the laughs? I wanted to see more time travel and less of the going-ons of their teen daughters. There’s too much going on and no cohesion. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Considering the movie is trying to wrap up a story 30 years in the making and 25 years after the last movie it was good. Introducing 2 new characters you know going in who is going to have major parts. Also there's not to much backstory to draw from although I would have hoped they made the future look a little more advanced and futuristic. The future and all three characters were a bummer. The daughter of Ruffus (spelling?) was lame, weak and un-necessary. At least Bill and Ted were a little more mature in this one. The ending was weak-ish and the timeline is confusing. I may have graded this a 6 but I saw the New Mutants movie before this so compared to that this looked like 10. Still enjoyable but go in with low expectations. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well Hollywood has done it again. Successfully ruined another series just like they did with Star Wars. They’ve gone back and erased everything you knew about Bill and Ted and the Wyld Stalions. As we left off Bill and Ted were suppose to create peace and harmony in the world with their band and music. Cut through all the terrible attempts at comedy in this movie and cut straight to the fact that there sons/ now daughters are the heroes and effectively Bill and Ted are still just losers who never accomplished anything more than spawning these kids. We are told the Wyld Stalions would save the universe except in the end a mash up of artist playing terrible music out together by their daughters actually save the day. Along with everyone throughout time playing along with them somehow. The movie ends on a disappointing note with no real conclusion. The movie is almost completely void of comedy, and pays little homage or tribute to the originals. I really wish I would have skipped this and just considered the second one the real ending. Expand

I really really really wanted to like this. In full faith I sat down and watched this with an open mind and hoped for something resembling the banter, wit, and subtlety of the first two. A fool's errand ultimately.

When I was a kid my aunt would bring tons of movies on VHS with her on Sunday to my gran's house and we'd watch everything from Bill & Ted to Edward Scissor Hands with her along with other classics. For Bill & Ted it was such an easy movie to like and enjoy. Me and my bro both loved metal and gnr at the time, so did my aunt god rest her soul.

Later when I was 20-25 I'd get home from a drunk night out and sometimes see Bogus Journey on the movie channels which is pretty close to the perfect 90s movie in my mind, plus it has a really good message that I think a lot of people could do with hearing these days.

Unfortunately the humor in the 2020 release here is just a disaster, I didn't laugh once. I felt happy at points that Alex Winters and Keanu got to relive their characters a bit while having a little light-hearted fun. In a sense at least the original team that made the movies got to have one last laugh together.

"Babes" have been replaced with "princesses". I don't think anyone expected the language to come back, but this writing is incredibly sterile.

I'd like to say there was some passing of the torch going on here but neither of these girls are exactly the next generation. They're both known actresses who are 26 and 28 respectively. It's kind of creepy and weird to see a 28 year old woman acting as if she's a teenager/child in designer dungarees. Kinda pretending to sound and act like a guy she saw in a 90s movie. Just didn't come across well at all.

Alex Winters and Keanu were 23 and 22 when they did the first movie and were largely unknowns cracking jokes about not getting carded (typical teenage thing). You can see how innocent and yet everyday they are. They should've given some kids their first crack at a movie instead of some starlets. (but other forces may be at play ofc, hollywood etc)

The moments like saying "all we are is dust in the wind dude" to Socrates are gone, or saying "why would we lie to ourselves?" after just meeting each other. No sadly the one liners have instead been replaced with.. Dennis the robot. (I can't remember his full name)

This character is GUARANTEED to make your skin crawl for how cringe the execution is. If anyone has a problem with this review, I want you to justify Dennis the robot to me first. Please. I want an explanation for that abomination of an idea.

You'd think they'd make a reference to being metal heads or something, yknow.. reuse the old material at least. Nope. Just "haha so awkward" and "quirky omg" stuff.

Yet despite that the movie in general comes across as deadly serious. No scenes of Napoleon discovering water parks or Mozart slaying the synths (criminal this wasn't done with new instruments). There's like 10 minutes of collecting all the historical figures, and then 5 minutes of terrible generic music at the end conducted by the girls. The Hendrix/Mozart scene could've been done a million times better.

There are some feel good moments but neither of the actresses playing the girls really come across as sincere for the entire movie. They just pseudo gush over musical greats and that really is the extent of their contribution to the movie. The movie felt afraid to give them more dialogue.

The wit and humor of playing Battleship with death is completely absent. The question is of course, why? Why is all the wit and humor absent? Well Bill and Ted are married it seems and marriage is hard.

It's an unfortunate case of too much to do and too little time with too big a cast that all have to be given screen-time.

Kristen Schaal dominates this movie for some reason, not sure how that happened. There are so many dumb useless characters that soak up a surprising amount of screen-time.

They could've cut that entire therapy scene. It's labored to such a ridiculous degree it's painful. Once again, it's just not particularly funny or clever. The jokes are "haha omg her reaction". Throw in a few puns here and there for christ sake.

Most of the dialogue is insanely labored. If you sit down and analyze it 90% of the scenes are just characters telling other characters what they need to do next.

Finally I'm going to talk about the biggest sin briefly. The music. The music is atrociously bad. They use off the cuff stock sound clips that sound terrible. Gone are references to Van Halen, incoming are tired references to theremins because yknow, quirkiness. There's generic OST orchestral music taken from some sound bank.

I came away from this feeling old, which at 30 I guess I am. So is the girl in the movie though so? I dunno. This movie is very confused about what it wants to be.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Very disappointing. They just made sooo many bad choices, not least of which was [spoiler] basically making the daughters be the ones who create the tune that unites the world--not f'n Bill and Ted! Oh, and the final tune itself was pretty crap, when they could have used the brilliant In Time (the Robbie Robb feat. Marcus Wright version used in the original movie). Just a big fail all round imo, and it only gets a 5/10 because there were a couple of decent moments, mostly at the start, and it is Bill & Ted after all. :-( Expand

This time, they’re charged with creating the musical masterpiece in order to save the universe, so they travel thru time to meet themselves in various absurd altered personalities. Meanwhile, their offspring (who are basically teen girl versions of their dads with Brigette Lundy-Paine making an especially funny Billlie) embark on their own mission to assemble the greatest band ever. While the actors still manage to capture the blank dudes tudes and phrases that started the franchise, the setups and punchlines are pale comparisons to the original. There’s plenty of silly energy, but none of it takes the series to new places or even makes the old familiars much more than nostalgia. NOTE: Sit thru the credits to see the codgers shred it one last time. Expand

The film like many others had to contend with the Pandemic and opted for theatrical release where allowed and Video on Demand. Some chains have opted not to carry the film due to the simultaneous release on VOD but viewers can now see the film.

Bill and Ted find themselves struggling to make Wyld Stallions a success as after starting out with a #1 hit; subsequent offerings were largely ignored by the public which caused them to slide further into mediocrity and have family suggesting that perhaps it is time to give music up and get real jobs.

Their inept career has also caused tension with their Princess wives and they have gone to couples counseling although to the dismay of their therapists Bill and Ted insist that all four members take part at the same time.

The only thing going well for the two are their daughters Thea (Samara Weaving), and Billie (Brigette Lundy-Paine) who truly are chips off the block and not only embrace their father’s offerings but are inseparable themselves.

When a courier from the future (Kristen Schaal), arrives and takes Bill and Ted into the future they learn that they are in danger of failing their destiny as the Universe is falling apart and they have yet to write the song that will save the universe and have only 77 minutes to do so.

The duo then decides to travel to the future in their old Phone Booth and take the song from their older versions. Naturally this does not go as planned and Bill and Ted find all sorts of disturbing versions of themselves and precious little to help them achieve their destiny.

Sadly after the setup the film loses momentum fast and becomes a series of what new and crazy look and personas can Bill and Ted be put into with some very laborious pacing as it seems more like a series of improve sketches than a scripted film as scene after scene fail to go anywhere of note and joke after joke does not deliver.

It almost became tedious watching the second half of the film. There was a killer robot thrown in but it did little to advance the story forward beyond being a token bad guy and becomes annoying as the film goes on. Thea and Billie take on the role of their dads from the first film and gather a collection of musicians from the past in order to back their dads but the entire finale falls flat. What really bothered me was that the film in many ways undermines the two prior films as it was clearly established that the music of Bill and Ted was their legacy; not one specific song and the way it is ultimately revealed is very underwhelming and reduces their significance.

It was nice to see the duo back but sadly the film cannot build upon nor sustain the solid premise it establishes. In the end “Bill and Ted: Face the Music” has a few laughs and some fun nostalgia but disappoints and does not reach its potential.

First of all let's get something out of the way. Bill & Ted Face the Music is not as good as its predecessors. Even if you want to argue that the two original films are actually not that good.

Now after understanding that, this is how you put in perspective what this film is.

Certainly is something I feared it would be and that was that it was going to be a nostalgia vehicle. Especially since any audience after 2010 only knows Keanu Reeves as John Wick and they may not have the slightest idea who Alex Winter is.

And if maybe you tell them that this is the third film of these characters and that the last one was released 29 years ago, they will be completely surprised. It’s a lifetime after all.

But it's gratifying to know that that element of nostalgia is surprisingly what makes Bill & Ted Face the Music work the way it does.

The plot is simplistic, they always were, but it's precisely that simplicity and humility in knowing where it's going and what it's pointing towards, which makes this film, a fun and entertaining experience that never tries to do anything more than that.

It's obvious that this third installment will not reach the cult status the previous two films achieved, but let's be honest; perhaps those two wouldn't have achieved it either if they had been released in these times, but for my part that's fine.
I know very well what I expected from this film and I understandably accept what it delivers.

Bill & Ted Face the Music may not be the masterpiece that many hope or wish it would be, but honestly in these days, it gave a decent dose of grace and humor.

Judge it for what it is. Not because of what you expected it to be.

Alex Winters truly lives in the character and is enjoyable to watch. Keanu Reeves struggles to hold onto the magic, and would have been much more convincing if he relaxed a little. The true stars of the film are Samara Weaving's Thea and Brigette Lundy-Paine's Billie, who legitimately deserve a sequel focused on them. The film runs at a brisk pace that is everything you would expect; then the characters get to hell and everything screeches to a horribly boring halt upon reuniting with Death. It's a scene that feels like it was the seed idea for this sequel, a 'getting the band back together after we broke up because of reasons,' that really isn't needed and considering the success of the rest of the movie, should have been left on the cutting room floor. Other than that, its super fun. Expand

And for that, I feelEnjoyed this for the movie that it is: A cute, wholesome, and joyous homecoming for Bill and Ted! Keep in mind, I don't have any nostalgia for this franchise since I watched them for the first time during quarantine. And for that, I feel inclined to say this one is my favorite. It incorporates the best of both original movies.

Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter fill these roles like they never left them. It gets more hilarious with every scene and becomes very clear how passionated they were and how they wanted to make a modern story for Bill and Ted while still keeping the spirit of the originals intact. There’s no more homophobia (we should be excellent to each other after all) and the women now get to play a more significant part in the story; the daughters being an unexpected highlight. Samara Weaving is so adorable! And I love that they visit a lot more people of color this time around, too. It also blows my mind that this one is really the first entry to center the plot around MUSIC.

My main issue is that the movie looks too clean. I wish they shot this on film instead of digitally, because it looks pretty visually divorced from the previous films. But I eventually settled into it and it wasn’t a constant bother. The film also ends very abruptly and I would’ve liked just a little more breathing room after the finale, especially since I’m assuming this is the last time we’ll see these characters.

We could waste a lot of time debating whether these films are too dumb for their own good, but I’m not gonna bother. It brought me joy, so I’ll call it a good movie. Party on, dude!

P.S. - Bill and Ted’s wedding performance that was supposed to be terrible was actually a total banger!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I had higher hopes. It was just another movie that fell victim to SJW agenda. Rather than the sons they were supposed to have, they flipped it to daughters. Rather than write the song that saves the world, the daughters took over the responsibility.
This could have been a movie that reflected our times with riots, pandemics, masks, and having Bill & Ted be a bright light to cheer everyone up, singing "In time, we'll be dancing in the streets all night!" but instead it's just muddled up with bad acting, retcons, and social justice agenda.

Now I give it a 7/10 which is definitely not bad. To start off Keanu Reeves, and Alex Winter somehow still feel like they are teenagers from the 80s. Also the addition of their daughters was really cool. Especially Ted's daughter. I of course love Bill, and Ted in this film but I think Billy, played by Bridgette Lundy-Paine, was surprisingly the standout. She just felt so much like Keanu Reeves in the first film, while adding her own twist to it. I also think the journey the daughters went on was more excellent than the one Bill and Ted went on. Of course Bill and Ted's journey was still good, but I thought Billy, and Theo's journey was much cooler and more engaging. It also ends in probably the most satisfying way possible, and I didn't see how they ended it coming. My main problem though is it wasn't particularly funny. There were a few times you might chuckle, but there wasn't a time were I was dying laughing, for example when Bill and Ted are playing the games with death in Bogus Journey. And when you are making a comedy I think you have to be funny, and this movie really isn't that. Even though I said Bill and Ted still feel like teenagers I never felt like they reached the same level as they were in the first two movies. This an overall most excellent way to end off the Bill and Ted trilogy, but it has one really big fault in it not being that particularly funny. I give Bill and Ted Face the Music a 7.5/10 and a B-. I would like to end with a quote. ''Be excellent to each other. And Party on dudes.'' -Bill and Ted Expand

Needless to say, It was worst than I thought it'd be. The acting is below average at best with some of it being downright cringe-worthy. The plot honestly makes no sense. They're told to write a song to save the world and try to go back (really forward) in time to steal it from themselves. Well, Clearly they never wrote it in the first place which is why they summoned Bill and Ted hundreds of years into the future to scold them for being unable to do so. So from the premise alone, I was out.

By the final act, I wanted to just skip until the end and I did. There were flashes early on of something decent but wow, this movie went into the toilet real quick.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just watched it on Hulu. Glad I didn’t spend $39. huge fan, grew up with the originals. However this was terrible. Not funny on any level and I laugh watching Beavis & Butthead/Mel Brooks type of humor every night.

Part of it being the new trend to replace the dudes with women and make the dudes losers who need to be saved doesn’t help. Honestly, it’s just a mess. I tried hard to laugh. To find something familiar and actually funny. It’s basically Ghostbusters 2016.
