The cast is mismatched: Lefou should have been played by Jack Black, Belle should have been played by another actress (Watson is a one-trick pony and it show so prominently) , Gaston is too much of a weakling. There is also far more animation in this "live action" than in the original cartoon but in the same time, both the cast and director managed to loose the lifelikeness of the original production (that is a pretty neat trick in itself). I give it a big fat 0 at it deserve little more than that, it is a mere lifeless derivative rehash. If only they had used ideas from the movie with Jean Marais, I may even had understood. But not even close: this one product is made to entertain consumers. Expand

Really brought nothing to the film, just a naked cash-grab in a scene-for-scene remake of the animated film. A year from now, nobody will remember this movie at all.

The original was superb, this one is a soulless mess. It throws in some very minor plot tweaks and additions from the original, but otherwise it's hard to deny this is just a cash grab nostalgia play, like an increasingly large percentage of Hollywood's output seems to be. The singing is unimpressive (frankly these actors don't have the voices for it compared to the original renditions) and Belle never really sells you on having fallen for the Beast, she seems like she's only going through the motions. The best I can say about it is that it really helps you fully appreciate just how well done the original was by contrast. Watch that again instead of overpaying for this flash-but-hollow dreck.

PS: Homosexual intimacy doesn't belong in family-friendly films, period. Shame on Disney for trying to hamhandedly crowbar controversial alternative-lifestyle elements like that into a lighthearted movie for children. That's not what anyone goes to a movie like this to see.

Boring re-hash of what was an excellent animated film. Also very disappointed in the addition of propaganda that was not in the original film. Many young children will watch this, and they are very impressionable. Shame on you Disney :(

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Emma Watson does not have the warmth of Belle in her expressions, the added new songs are unnecessary, as well as certain scenes, such as the enchantress, how the prince became a Beast, how Belle's mother died, etc. Also, Luke Evans is handsome to many, but to me, he's not Gaston; he's not intimidating like the character was in the original. The CGI is pretty awful, Mrs. Potts & Chip look horrible, but Beast looks the worst. He looks like a man who has grown extra hair on his face; & people have compared his horns to those of a goat's. I think they changed his character, because he's not scary as Beast in this live-action version. I'm also not impressed with Emma Watson's yellow dress which is supposed to be Belle's, but looks horrible compared to the original, it does not have a full skirt & has a different design on the top; the sleeves are also nothing like the original. The other costumes were well-made. I don't like Ariana Grande & John Legend's version of "Tale as Old as Time", I feel they should've chosen someone else to sing it. The only good things I can say about it are the costumes (except the yellow dress) & the set design, the scenery was beautiful! But as for everything else, this does absolutely no justice to the original. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I can't even put into words how disappointed I was about this movie, I knew it was going to be disappointed when I first seen the previews the CGI was jaw dropping and I don't mean that in a good way and the fact that Emma Watson was cast to play the lovely Belle was laughable but still I had hope because Beauty and the Beast is by far my favorite Disney Movie, it's in my top 5. The main issue I had with this film aside from the casting was the story tale itself. Disney for some reason decided to combined the old Folklore with their Disney version of how the beast became the beast and it truly made no sense because they left out key details in both. Some Backstory: In the old Folklore of Beauty and the Beast, Belle's father was a merchant who had 3 sons and 3 daughters the youngest being Belle, Belle was loved by her brothers and her father but her two sisters despised her. One day the merchant asked his girls what they wanted him to bring back the two sisters said money and jewelry but Belle only requested a single Rose. Which brings us to how the father met the beast just like in the movie the beast kept himself hidden and he fed the father and let him relax in his chair and rest and as the father was leaving he noticed the rose garden remembered Belle's request and picked off a rose which enraged the beast and so he showed himself and basically told the father that he was taking advantage of his kindness which is why he became the beasts prisoner but he did allow him to go home to say goodbye to his family which brings us to how Belle decided to trade places with her father which imprisoned him in the place the brothers and the fathers profusely rejected the idea and were actually going to slay the beast but Belle wouldn't allow them to do that and instead took her fathers place which made the brothers and father sad but the sisters were thrilled. The beast and Belle got along quite fine and developed trust and love for each other and he
actually allowed her to go back home to see her family as long as she wasn't gone more than 3 days, well leave it to the bitter sisters to put a stop to this because they wanted Belle dead/ locked away with the beast so they convinced Belle to stay longer hoping that this would set the beast off it took a bit of persuading and Belle stayed for a week and the beast grew weak and Belle could sense that something was wrong so she rushed back to the beast who was basically dying and she was crying over him and professing her love, she kisses him and the beast turns into a prince they get married the brothers and father rejoice and the evil bitter sisters well Belle turns them into the stone - The End.

That's how the Folklore goes so as you can see aside from a few key parts Disney took bits and pieces and meshed it up with the animated tale and they added a whole new element which was Belle's mother and the magic book that takes them to any point and time in the world which was just stupid and unnecessary, we could all assume that Belle's mother was dead we didn't need to know what she died of anyone could've guessed small pox or even chlamydia I mean hello they didn't have medicine people were dying from the common cold for Christ sake it was just stupid and nobody cares! This live action remake was absolutely dreadful and who was the ugly dude that played the part of Gaston? What about him was rugged or handsome he looked like a prissy prep school boy if you ask me! Even the enchanted castle and characters were lackluster in this remake it was all around disappointing and they added new songs that nobody knew who does that?! So in the end I'm sure people will watch but as a true fan of beauty and the beast both folklore and animation this live action remake was a let down in a big way.

The movie is so bogged down in politics that everything good about gets drown on it.

Waste of screen time, an insult to the classic disney movie.

It was a blatant SJW propaganda film, which should have been expected from an emma Watson lead. Some glowing moments that inevitably get dragged through the mud with forced political correctness.

Most of what I was hearing about it in interviews and news was gimmicky tricks and passes at incorporating modern changes sounded false and not genuine. While watching the film I discovered I was correct, a lot of what I was promised was not delivered. Unlike the usual standard of vocal performance in a disney movie, this film had some lower points I wasn't expecting. My opinions of the cast are very mixed, I was quite surprised by ewan mcgreggor but let down by luke evans. The beast doesn't translate perfectly into live action, but dan stevens work really helped make this a more believable creature. I didn't believe emma watson was anything but an acting performance, there was very little truth in her and i thought this was the flattest part of the film. I was quite intrigued by some of the new scenes not featured in the disney original but by the end of the film they felt contrived and unnecessary. Back story and expansions could have been done much better. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was somewhat excited to see this movie only to be disappointed as soon as i heard Emma Watson was cast as belle. I don't think in all honesty she can act whatsoever, i feel like her performance as Belle was just basically Emma renamed for the production, as in Harry Potter she was very suited to the role however i felt that character also was not acting it was simply herself but a snotty know it all. Emma certainly brought no joy or passion to the movie, emotions none existent, song very flat the best part was Gaston and Le Fou but even Luke Evans wasn't that great, he was somewhat okay but there was not enough ego for Gaston. Scenes, Added and none existent; a slave to all original Disney movies the fact that songs, scenes were added whilst other scenes from the original were missed leaves it very poor. Gaston doesn't ask Le fou to strike up the band for her proposal, it simply doesn't happen. The opening scene was unnecessary Lumiere looked like a cheap Monopoly piece, not like the cute one from the cartoon that looks like hers wearing a turtle neck, the furniture ect... weren't as cute looking like the original i might expect too much but the CGI for the beast was exactly that, too much! Added songs killed my soul i got bored quickly the back story for belle wasn't that needed. I felt like an original story was changed as if it was from a different perspective like Malificient but that film was great! That was the same story with a slight twist not something changed and over sold. I am really gutted this film turned out the way it has. Lets hope they don't flatten anything else we have like they did with Bad and the boring. Expand

What sort of ruins the movie for me is Disney Executives and their incessant need to promote their leftist agenda. I know they support gay rights and transgender equality, but why do you need to put obvious Easter eggs in our children's movies? I am not really for or against these things, it is more that I notice what you have done and its breaks the 4th wall so to speak. Please don't insult my intelligence. If you want to make a movie about a gay or transgender heroine, please be my guest. That would say a lot more to me than your annoying and passive aggressive current approach. Expand

It's one of the worst Disney live-action remakes I've ever seen. It's the same story of the original all over again, it wants to be better than the original, but it's not, the CGI looks like it came straight out of a Nintendo Wii game, it looks terrible by the way, same goes for the production designs which doesn't translate well into live-action, instead of trying to be faithful to the original animated film, it copies everything about the whole original like the musical numbers, which is a rehash I guess, the new songs are forgettable (except for Evermore which I'll talk about later), the new character designs of Beast (He looks too humanoid and handsome) and the Enchanted Objects look hideous, the pacing is terrible, it drags on, because it had too many pointless subplots and filler that really distracted the whole entire plot, lack of chemistry and bond between Belle and the Beast, I don't feel like it, and the characters are so bland, lacking any sort of charm and spirit that they have in the original. Any positives? Well, just of them. The cast and their performances are pretty good, they did try, despite the material they've been given which was crap, in other words, no matter how good the casts' performances are, they can't even outmatch the cast from the original. Evermore is the best song of the entire film, Dan Stevens' singing really does help. It was catchy, emotional, beautiful, powerful and well orchestrated. It might not save the entire soundtrack from being rehashed from the original, but it's still a one heck of a song that many kids and families can hear it again and again. Overall, despite the positives, this remake is terrible. It's beyond rubbish. It's a complete waste of time. I'm not watching it again. It's just a Disney live-action remake that nobody asked for. Everyone if you love the original so much, then chances are, you might hate this remake. I highly suggest you to stay away from this piece of beast crap. If you haven't seen the original and if you wanted to watch the remake, then this is for you. On the other hand, it's the worst Disney live-action remake I've ever seen. Stay away from this movie.
