Wow super surprised at how much I enjoyed this action packed flick. Even though it isnt directed by OG director, these next few films are in great hands.

Directing duo Adil and Bilall inject a manic energy into the production doing their best to ape Michael Bay, but this reboot was always going to be dead on arrival.

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence come off as off-brand facsimiles of their younger selves, relying on witless camp and forced back-and-forth quipping. You're better off spending money on a ticket for an Oscar contender you may have missed earlier in the season.

I'm looking forward to the day when Hollywood learns that this endless reboot garbage won't net them as much as ORIGINAL GOOD CONTENT.

This movieAnother reminder that professional critics will dislike a movie like this, but recommend tired, tedious, over-written movies (Ad Astra). This movie is a lot of fun. If you liked the first two Bad Boys movies, you'll love this one. This movie is also very self-aware. You're watching two men- One who has embraced his new point in life, and another who is struggling with the fact that he's not the same as he was when we saw him 20 years ago. A lot of the jokes land. There were times that the entire theater was laughing. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are back in form. It was an extremely entertaining movie. Was it perfect? No, but I wasn't looking for perfection. I was looking to be entertained on a Sunday night, and I was entertained for a solid 2 hours. It was well worth the money. Expand

This already the best blockbuster of the year. The movie is thoroughly entertaining. Nobody goes to watch these kind of films for a deep story, they want to be entertained and this film does that very well. Bad Boys For Life is a movie that doesn't take itself too seriously and plays to its strengths. It is the best movie of this franchise and downright hilarious. The comedy in this film is perfect, never too much and the timing is always just right. Great film and highly recommended. Expand

The twist of the plot was undoubtedly created from the very long period of time between the second installment and this one.

And for that very reason it feels like a resource pulled out of the sleeve and completely anticlimactic.

And while Bad Boys aren't the kind of movies where you're obviously looking for a really solid or dramatic story, at least I have to give Michael Bay credit because he knew how to exploit it.
The new directors don't succeed, and instead of reinforcing the dynamics and chemistry between Smith and Lawrence, they focus on breaking it with the new characters, who honestly bring absolutely nothing to the table.

Bad Boys For Life it's indeed an entertaining film if you don't look for anything else inside it.
Yes it has comedy, explosions, bullets, their formula, but unlike second part, with these results it's fair to say if it was worth coming back after 17 long years and in my opinion it wasn't worth it.

Let's see how long it will take for the fourth part that was recently announced.

The humour in the film is pretty good too. Also loved some side characters like Rita especially and want to see her again in the next part if it happens. And yeah it is a popcorn flick but it is a good one. There are some emotional punches which lands beautifully in the film and keeps the film more compelling than the Michael Bay's take on this fanchrise.
The villain has the weakest arc in the whole movie and didn't care about that character at all. Even though the film stumbles on some narrative points, clunky storytelling and an anti-climatic ending but it still is better than both the predecessor.

This installment of “Bad Boys” is sassy, silly, sophomoric and sometimes savage. It’s also the most fun I’ve had at the movies in months.

In the hands of Directors Adil and Bilall, who previously partnered on “Black,” “Gangsta” and “Broeders,” this film is a fun mix of formulaic and self-aware. The plot is quite predictable. A Mexican drug cartel seeks vengeance on the cops who sent their leader to prison for life. Mike (Will Smith) is clearly in their sights. Mike enlists his long-time partner, Marcus (a puffy Martin Lawrence), to help him right wrongs and preserve truth and justice, while engaging in ceaseless, manly banter along the way. You could drive a truck through the holes in the plot – or in this case a steel-reinforced urban assault vehicle equipped with computers, GPS and rocket launchers.

This is a film that clearly enjoys skewering itself and the whole police genre. While there is the beleaguered Captain trying to keep Mike in line (an excellent Joe Pantoliano), it’s all over-the- top and played with a self-aware wink and a nod. The females are bosses and bad-asses (including Vanessa Hudgins, unrecognizable from her time in the “High School Musical” series), not just objects of desire or damsels in distress. There’s a hunky male cop (Alexander Ludwig) who seeks to avoid violence and strongly endorses the value of therapy in dealing with life’s inevitable issues. There are regular demonstrations that technology and brainpower may work better than Mike’s testosterone-driven macho posturing. And finally, there’s the explicit awareness that our hero is a lot closer to the end of his career than its beginning, despite his protests to the contrary. There’s also a necessary nod to the fact that Mike and Marcus are not the men they were when the series began in 1995. In fact, Marcus has been enjoying a fully domesticated retirement filled with minivans, baby wipes, grandchildren and a healthy fear of his wife, who seems more imposing than most of the bad guys.

The action sequences are generally first rate. Bombs, car chases, explosions – check. The film also includes a searing final scene that offers the best helicopter action since the musical “Miss Saigon.”

Most valuable of all, this film is totally self-aware. There’s even a brief cameo involving Michael Bay, the director of the 1995 and 2003 installments in this franchise, as a benign wedding MC. This is a franchise that realized it desperately needed a re-boot, then took on the task with intelligence and humor.

Most of all, this is a film that adroitly addresses the existential themes of death, eternity … Oh, come on, already. Really!? Just sit back, relax and enjoy the banter, bravado and brio. There’s plenty to go around.

Surpreendentemente divertido!

A história é surpreendentemente boa.

Getting Old But Still Bad Boys For Life

The Stream: Some comedy falls flat and parts of the movie seem rushed

The Big Screen: Typical great action sequences and comedy

The Final Bill: The worst of the three Bad Boys series but very enjoyable.

-S2S: Movie Reviews

We ride together. We review together. Stream to Big Screen for life. Welcome back to Stream to big Screen. This week we have the chance to review the long awaited third installment of the Bad Boys movie franchise starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. They reprise their roles as Detectives “trigger/bulletproof” Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett. It’s been 17 years since Bad Boys 2, but these two still know how to tear up Miami. This time they incorporate the help of a new department of the Miami PD, AMMO to make this happen. Let’s see if Bad Boys For Life can live up to its predecessors.

Good news or bad news…. bad news first of course. Martin and Will are old. This seems like an obvious statement but at times it jumped off the screen. Martin looks fat, clearly can’t do action scenes anymore, and even his signature voice suffers. Age hasn’t seemed to have affected Will as much, but he’s definitely slowed down. The good news is that the director made this work in their favor. They embrace these actors’ lack of vigor and infused a new cast to assist. And boy do they get busy. In fact, I think this movie will do so well that the 4th installment is a foregone conclusion.

Now, speaking of age, this movie has its walk down memory lane, but it isn’t full consumed by it. While homage is paid with old jokes and cast, the director found a way to bring the movie into the present. Thankfully, Bad Boys for Life isn’t simply a nostalgia money grab movie. This movie plays well as a third installment to what could be a continuing series, if they wanted.

My only issues with Bad Boys For Life comes with the pacing and some jokes that absolutely flop. This movie starts off too slow and in the end it feels rushed; but then there are points in the middle that seem to linger a bit too long. This is clearly something a viewer can get passed but in these lingering moments it comes with some jokes that do not land. Don’t get me wrong, the cast has some very strong moments of comedy and comic relief, but a few times the jokes missed the mark…. hard. Otherwise, the movie was jammed packed with laughs, action and quality fight scenes.

So what can we say – you know what you’re going to get from our leading duo. Great chemistry, laughs, and action lead viewers to the theaters as usual. Even though they may be getting older and rounder Will and Martin still have some gold left in them and the new cast members help bring the series into the future. Grab a bowl of popcorn, go to a matinee showing and enjoy the ride.

HASTA EL FUEGO!

*sings poorly* Bad boys bad boys whatcha gonna doooooooo…..

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The movie addresses the question directly what a lot of people probably thought "aren't these guys too old to be doing this sh**?", and makes it a central theme of the movie. Of course, lots of wild action sequences as one would expect. Would recommend if you are a fan of the Bad Boys movies and action comedy movies in general. Expand

I always felt the first 2 movies were more guilty pleasure than anything special. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are hilarious together, and their presence carried the movies, but I always felt the stories lacked cohesion and seriousness. For Life solved the problem in spades, the acting was better than expected, and its been awhile since a genuine action movie actually had twists you didn't see a mile coming. Not an Oscar caliber movie, but definitely a fun ride! Expand

Being both a third installment and a sequel made a long time after the last one, there's reason to worry that this wouldn't work out. I'm happy to say this is pretty entertaining.

This is the first time Michael Bay isn't directing, so the movie doesn't have quite the director's level of action and style. However, it's not too much of a gap. Directors Adil El Arbi and Billal Fallah prove competent at taking the reins. There are some pretty good action ideas and scenes, especially in the finale. The movie just looks good in general. I'm glad that the regime change didn't result in darker lightning; Miami really pops in this.

The bright side of Bay no longer being behind the wheel is that the movie isn't awash with his overindulgences. (I'm sorry but Bad Boys II had way too much of the guys arguing with each other and just randomness in general.) The plot here is definitely the strongest of the trilogy and tries something new and interesting. I felt that Martin Lawrence got a better material to work with than he has had in the series. The villains are probably the best asw well which is saying something since the last two weren't half bad.

The movie could be shorter. Some scenes drag. In this, Lawrence and Will Smith's characters work with a younger police squad called AMMO. I like the new characters and their actors, but some of them aren't given enough time to let them develop.

I'd rank this above BBII and on about the same level as the first one. I think this is one of the better action movies of the last few years.

The reason why this film works is because the do constrain the craziness that Michael Bay established with the last two but they do respect the technical part but focus more on the comedy, the action, cinematography, performances and the story which was something that amazed me big time. The do a great job with the villains too and make this a personal story for the two main characters. I enjoyed so much to watch the Bad Boys for Life film. Expand

Both films had cringe dialogue with fart jokes, sex jokes, penis jokesBad Boys was the film that pretty much launched Will Smith into action fame. The first two films which were directed by Michael Bay were the most Michael Bayest film ever. Both films had cringe dialogue with fart jokes, sex jokes, penis jokes and treating women like objects with the dumbest and pervert camera shots for women with lots of explosions. Also an incredible amount of F-bombs. Honestly, the Bad Boys movies suck a lot and it baffles me that it managed to even get a third movie. However, this time it isn't directed by Michael Bay and that was enough to get me interested in this movie.

25 years after the first movie I got to say that Will and Martin still have great chemistry and their banter is still one of the biggest highlights for this movie. I was worried about this as Martin Lawrence hasn't been in a lot of films but this movie shows that they still got it. Additionally, the movie makes their characters have more depth instead of being loud over the top cops and that was very interesting. The action scenes also have a lot less shaky cam which makes it so much easier to know what is going on compared to the previous films. The movie also does comedy much better than the first two movies with moments that actually gave me a chuckle. There are still some sex jokes but penis jokes and fart jokes are gladly gone. Also, the story is actually a lot more compelling compared the first two movies by making it feel more personal instead of "hot girl gets kidnap by a bad person". On that note, the villain is more memorable as it feels like they have a personality and has a believable motive instead of being a generic 80s cannon fodder. The stakes in these movies feel high and more important to the characters.

However, this movie feels very generic and conventional and doesn't really add anything to the action genre. It's just a typical action movie that is not as terrible as the first two. The action scenes while much more visible, lack a lot of the high octane energy from Michael Bay movies. I hate the first two movies but there is some pretty crazy action in them such as the freeway scene in Bad Boys 2 but in this movie, they are just really tame. Furthermore, the movie also has a surprising amount of blatant CGI and green screen which are very noticeable in action scenes. It's very obvious when they green-screened a stunt double with Will Smith's face or Martin's face and it can take you out the movie sometimes. Finally, without spoiling the story, there is just one moment near the end of the movie that really irritates me when a character makes a choice that makes no sense as there was no proper build-up to it. It just happens and it doesn't feel deserved or believable.

In conclusion, I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. However, the franchise is still quite bad in my opinion and this movie doesn't make me change my mind. Maybe the 4th movie which should be called Bad Boys 4ever steps up the plate and takes more risk.

I so badly want to give this film a 0 because of all the ignorant 10's here, just to even the score, but I will be honest and get to the point. This film is no where near a 10.

This is no where near a 10, but definitely a 6-7. I was let down by the first opening act, because the jokes fell extremely flat and it appeared as if my low expectations were already met, and that this would just be another poor nostalgia trip, like Dumb and Dumber To and Jay and Silent Bob Reboot were. But thankfully once the action got going finally, the jokes picked up as well. Marcus's retirement part at home was pretty funny, but the best part was on the plane where he talks about warlock baby and sex with witches. Watch the film and you'll see what I mean. The jokes thankfully got better by Lawrence, who once again overshadows Will Smith in this series as the funny guy.

While the story in this film was even more over the top than in Bad Boys 2, the twist towards the end with Mike and the people trying to kill him was done very well, and caught everyone by surprise, I'm certain. The only thing I can't stand when a movie isn't "hilarious" are the few people who never stop laughing. I will tell you right now this movie did not even come close to warranting laughs from start to finish, but you'll always have those people who somehow can laugh at EVERY scene in a film and I experienced those people during this movie. Thankfully there were only like 15 people in the room I was in, because most were there to see 1917 for God knows what reason, since that movie is now 2 weeks old.

So, on that note if your expectations are low you will enjoy most of the film like I did, but if you go in thinking this is going to be the best action movie ever, then you'll be disappointed. I also liked the fact that they brought back Mark Mancina's awesome theme song from the first movie and they played it at the end credits, although slightly modified. Go see the movie. It's definitely worth a one time watch, but not any more than that. I can watch the first two movies multiple times still, but this one I don't think I'll be able to. It was a solid "good" in my eyes.

He's proven that he still has the star power to put butts in seats most of the time, but the majority of his post-Men in Black 3 work has proven memorable for all the wrong reasons. So what better way to get some of his lost mojo back than by revisiting the film largely responsible for turning him into one of the biggest stars in Hollywood in the first place?

While the absence of Michael Bay in the director's seat can certainly be felt, I was very impressed with how successfully Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah were able to make this feel like a true Bad Boys follow up. They tone down things like the objectification of women and overall more offensive qualities the previous two movies had, while still capturing the same level of vulgarity in the dialog and lack of respect for human life in the insane action sequences. There are even several referential nods made to the franchise's continuity that other revivals of the ilk have not been respectful enough to include. The only thing missing is Gabrielle Union's gorgeous self.

One thing abundantly clear about For Life is that it's not meant to be a conclusion to anything, but rather the beginning of something larger. Some lengths were went through to establish a team of younger agents clearly intended to carry future installments forward when Smith and Lawrence are finally ready to hang up their badges. None of whom have shown charismatic enough in the past to fill those massive shoes, with the exception being maybe Charles Melton. While I kind of miss the days where I could watch a blockbuster without having to sit through it setting up an infinite number of sequels in the process, I'd say the biggest complaints people would likely have with the movie are its somewhat unfocused nature in the early half and just how ludicrous it all gets. The finale is downright Fast & Furious levels of bonkers. It's entertaining, but paints a questionable picture for what comes next as I have a hard time believing logic and reality will not end up only getting further thrown out the window. Anchoring everything though are the two leads who slip back into their brotherly bickering with ease. They kept me watching and laughing during those random scenes in the first portion of the film that didn't contribute to the overall plot at all. This isn't just a return to former quality for Smith, but Martin Lawrence as well. So many of his solo outings have been, well, terrible because he's tried to mimic the coolness and character acting of Eddie Murphy. Something he has simply never had the swagger for. Here he's just a henpecked dork and it fits him so well. I was instantly reminded why I've liked him more in these films than really anything else he's ever been in. This is more than just another ressurection of a dormant property to see how much money there's left to be squeezed out of it. While it is designed with the hopes of profiting off of further continuations that's not the only reason it exists. It was also made with the genuine intention of giving fans of Bay's buddy cop series more Bad Boys, and not in a cheesy, pandering way that plays solely on nostalgia. It's the true third chapter many of us have been waiting on and the best movie most of its cast have been apart of in quite some time.

I have to say like Sonic the Hedgehog movie this had no reason to be as good as it was is, I know the others are good movies but this was a close masterpiece, I am seriously amazed about that movie. First the action scenes were choreographed beautifully, it wasn’t the a huge explosions CGI orgy even though there was explosions. It was not shake cam either which is another plus, the movement is something to behold, one scene has the camera on its side and has someone shooting the people on top of them. The cinematography just lord. It was shot so beautifully, Miami has never looked so good it has so many colors instead of yellow. But the meat of the movie is Will and Martin they once again work so great with each other. It is so good to see Will Smith playing a more adult role since he was just in Aladdin and once again he killed it but Martin he was in retirement and he has never been better all the jokes land and stick with you once those credits roll. It was also great to see one note characters like Reggie from the second film coming back to this movie. Over all the movie was amazing it is a drama in the beginning but once Mike starts looking for someone it turns back into what the franchise is a buddy comedy movie. If you haven’t seen it in the theater go watch it before it leaves. Expand
